Comment: Nice neighborhood feel: very friendly and welcoming staff who know some of the customers by first name. The onigiri taste extremely fresh and high quality. I loved the beef sandwich, the spicy chicken onigiri as well as the soft shell crab. Spicy sauce is a must. Love this place

Comment: The location is horrible, every store owner here is rude and completely illiterate, the owner of this store is probably the best English speaker in the entire area, but his personality was not the greatest either, area is dirty as well, but past all of these negative things, in the end, the food was great and cheap.

Comment: Perfectly charming Japanese-style cafe. Good for a quick bite or beverage, and theres seating for a longer meal. The food is made day-of and displayed in a glass counter, but I believe you can order fresh if youd like something that isnt on display. They have a variety of Japanese snacks, drinks and mochi. Prices are reasonable, the space is clean, staff are polite and efficient. Credit cards accepted. No restroom available, none that I spotted at least. One of my go-tos for a coffee/snack in the neighborhood. 5 out of 5 for a cafe.

Comment: 969 NYC Coffee is an adorable Japanese cafe that serves authentic onigirazu, onigiris and other items. The owner is very attentive and treats his customers well. He made sure my matcha latte was perfect and to my liking. I was worried about the Corn corquette not being vegetarian but he assured me that everything was vegetarian. The corn croquette onigirazu is really good and savory.

Comment: A restaurant I found on the way to the library. In New York, I experienced a restaurant that felt like a Japanese street restaurant. Japanese restaurants in New York are expensive. However, this place offers full flavor at a low price like a Japanese university cafeteria. Although the space is small, I would recommend it. It is a healthy and sufficient meal at an affordable price.

Comment: The owner was very nice and the service was quick. The prices were reasonable for NYC.Personally I didn’t love the taste of any of the things I had. The matcha latte was a bit grainy for me.The fillings in the onigiri were a bit too small with the rice tasting a bit too hard/old.The chicken cutlet had a weird taste. The shrimp sandwich was much better and tasted fresh. But very flavorless. The Shrimp and rice was the best dish. Was almost identical to like an Indian shrimp curry.

Comment: I will say that the interaction with the owner or manager in charge was a bit weird. I didn’t intend to pay with a card but he immediately said sorry credit card limit is $5…. To which I said… no worries I have cash. Anyways! Got my iced latte and was very pleasantly surprised! Very good coffee and a decent size too! I went early in the morning so there weren’t a ton of onigiri options. Guess I’ll have to come back!

Comment: This place is still a mystery to me. It’s never crowded, it doesn’t show any sophistication but there’s a mysterious environment that surrounds that tiny room that, somehow, makes it attractive. Nice simple Japanese food recipes - finger foods, and the owner/manager/chef reminds me a legendary Japanese writer, Kenji Miyasawa. A curious place I highly recommend.

Comment: To be upfront, I walked by this place many times, but always thought it was just a fake Japanese cafe. But as it turns out, it is a one man shop and I believe the guy is actually Japanese. The merchandise is also all Japanese, e.g. the drinks. The best part is, the price is very reasonable. You cant really get a matcha for $2.5 in many parts of the city. So, Id recommend this place.

Comment: This restaurant is truly one of kind and it is a missed opportunity to visit Jackson Heights without stopping by this cafe! The owner is very kind and prepares quite a few vegetarian friendly onigiris—even though they are not formally listed on the menu. My favorite is the onigiri with cucumber, okra, seaweed, lettuce and mango. It is a great combination of sweet, savory, and salty! Please be patient if you have a special request because the owner is typically the only person working and he prepares everything fresh, so it is definitely worth the wait!

Comment: Really yummy sushi sandwiches/rice buns however you like to call them. I visited the shop in the morning around 9 am and got the oyster one which is so flavorful, fresh, crunchy and yummy. The owner is very kind and friendly. I ate half and got very full. So the whole plastic box includes two servings.Considering the flavor, ingredients and the price it is a very good find.It is a small and clean shop with both indoor (around 5 seats with the wall table and stools) and outdoor sitting (about 3-4 tables). They serve beverages like coffee and mocha. The morning starts with rice buns/sushi rice “sandwiches” while ramen starts at 11 am. I will come back and try the ranmen. I recommend this nice place to whoever loves good food.

My bf and I arrived less than an hour before closing time (we were driving through NJ traffic), and the owner still made us sandwiches on the spot with a smile on his face. Mr. Oda recommended the pork and the snow crab- and omg the snow crab was chef’s kiss. We both devoured them within minutes. Will be coming back again... this time with more appetite for dessert- I was eyeing the matcha avocado icecream but was too full! Thank you so much Mr. Oda! We will be back again!

Comment: This place is simply a gem. I don’t think the onigiris and the sushi sandwiches need elaborate descriptions; they were tasty as hell and I’m still salivating at the thought of them! Sadly I didn’t photograph the shrimp sushi sandwich I had as I was quite hungry and I had to seize the moment and the food. The owner, Oda Mitsumine, is an awesome guy. I told him I was coming for his food from mid town and was going to study abroad in Japan next Fall, and we had a great conversation. His positive energy definitely is contagious and made my day. Also please tip generously because this wonderful person is donating all of it to charity! The vegan sandwich with okra and the mango-vegetable with the fried potato are some of my favorites. I always have room for an umeboshi onigiri or a burdock root or seaweed salad. Dont ask me how I know this, but the fish is some of the best youre going to find. Dont believe me? Too bad. Comment: Owned by a former sushi chef  named Oda who worked in restaurants both in Japan and in Manhattan, 969 NYC Coffee is a small locally owned cafe that everyone needs in their neighborhood. They have an extensive coffee and drink menu, plenty of delicious Japanese style sandwiches, fresh onigiri, or Japanese rice balls stuffed with everything from tuna to katsu to even umeboshi, or japanese pickled plum. They also have a nice Japanese snack selection, along with counter seating indoors, plus a small patio in front of the cafe for dining outside. Ill be honest and say Ive only ever gotten one thing here between meals, and that is their super thick, tasty, and creamy avocado matcha smoothie - strong matcha flavor with a good amount of sweetness, plus avocado creaminess to complement; what a perfect pairing of flavors! Its lovingly and painstakingly made to order, and its one of the most luscious, creamiest drinks/smoothies/ice cream indulgences you could get. Make sure to ask for a spoon because youll definitely need it!

Comment: We were looking for cappuccino and this place has good reviews. We walked in to see they serve Joe Coffee which we drink at home so ordered 2 cappuccinos from the gentleman behind the counter. They were perfect! We drank them outside at one of the small tables and started looking at the menu and food reviews. Were not very familiar with Japanese food, so went back in and he recommended we try the spicy chicken onigiri (rice ball) and shrimp tempura. We loved it! We talked with him a while, told him how good it was. He makes everything fresh himself...he said hed love to make something else for us. I think well go back for the ramen before our trip is over.

Comment: Service is awesome! The owner is a dedicated person always willing to please his customers. The chashu on the tonkotsu ramen is a bit hard and lacks its characteristic flavor however the soup is really good. I wish he has katsu sando with bread but unfortunately he only has sando with rice which is not sando but onigirazu. Anyway, food is flavorful and service is outstanding

This is a great, authentic Japanese cafe with very affordable prices and some unique menu items, such as their sandwiches which are made of rice and seaweed. Comment: Till this day this is like a second home, when stressed or angry I will come here for an onigiri due to it having a combination of the two things I love, rice and some kind of meat inside. When I came here I was suprised to see heart shaped onigiri due to only eating triangle shapped onigiri. From middle school to college this is a good place to go to try something new due to its affordable prices and good meals that have in store. But this is also a place to cry due to my facial features changing the man that works here would somehow recognize me no matter how many things have changed.HE IS TOOO NICETvTVery nice place

Comment: Small local Japanese business that is a testament to what makes Queens special. Oda is the kindest man whose Japanese lunches are fresh, delicious, and made with love. He has become my go to for sushi, as he makes his rolls larger than any other sushi spot Ive been to, and for an affordable price. The salmon onigiri, spicy tuna roll, and salmon avocado roll are delicious. My fiance highly recommends the Chicken Katsu sandwich, which is stuffed with avocado, rice, vegetables, and wrapped in seaweed. He also imports snacks from Japan such as Pocky, Calbee Hot & Spicy Chips, and Caplico chocolates.

You want to try something you have never tried, but you surely know (like sushi) you must enter here and order the special sandwich, it is a surprise of flavor.Kindly, the one who attended us shows us how to make the rice sandwich and delivers it to us just warm and gives us a medium spicy sauce that combined with the sandwich looks great! If you are far from here, you must grab the car, the bus or the train and arrive and try it! highly recommended.

Comment: Definitely more a cafe with nice food than a food place with nice coffee. Coffee and matcha are very smooth, easily best part of experience. At the time was $3 for a large coffee, definitely worth it.Tried out smoked salmon with cream cheese onigiri, ramen, pork sandwich, corn croquette. Croquette was 3 pieces served over rice with side salad, quite delicious with the sauce. There is a bottle of spicy mayo around that goes well with it too, or really anything for that matter. Sandwich was small but filling, very tasty but packaging was annoying. Definitely take it out of the plastic wrap completely before eating. Onigiri was well-seasoned though filling was sparse, flavor good and rice fresh. Ramen had decent flavor, though only small amount of pork included. The noodles are plentiful and there is a boiled egg, pretty tasty overall. For a cafe it has pretty good food, nothing mind-blowing but lots of variety to tide you over while nursing a coffee or tea. There is actually a decent amount of seating for such a small place. Outside there are 3 tables with seats, and by the entrance there is some counter seating with 4 stools. As you enter there are two tables and as you approach the front counter there are two more tables off to the side.Would definitely stop by again if am in the area, coffee and food are good and service was prompt and courteous.

He immediately acknowledged us when we entered and said he would make whatever we wanted (it was about an hour from closing). Comment: What a great find !!! Its the first day of spring and it is cold and snowing outside, what better way to warm up than a nice bowl of yummy ramen! This place has been on my radar for the last couple of weeks and I am so glad I went. The food is delicious and prepared to order. The ramen was tasty and filling. I also had the pork sandwich wrapped in rice and seaweed and it was great! It is a small place, just like a ramen house in Japan, but it was not that busy and I was able to grab a spot right away. If you live in the area or just happen to be around it is worth stopping by. The owner is very kind and hard working. I will definitely be back to show my support while I eat the tasty ramen and try the rest of the menu !

Comment: This place is very cute. They have lots of delicious onigiri, ramen, and various Japanese prepackaged treats. Their matcha latte is made with real matcha leaves (none of the fake drinks that you cant even control the sugar level). Go try it!

Comment: I first read about Mr. Oda in the New York Times. Ive always loved Japanese food, and was pleasantly surprised to find out his authentic Japanese dishes were available so close to me on 80th Street. Upon visiting, I was greeted by him in a cozy environment. He and his wife make onigiri (rice balls), ramen, tea, and coffee at very affordable prices, and sell Japanese drinks, snacks, and ice cream on the side. Mr. Oda is a very respectful and amicable person who genuinely cares about his business and customers. I highly recommend the crab onigiri and tonkotsu ramen, but every dish seemed tasty.

Comment: Since I cant find onigiri anywhere, I probably would have been happy with mediocre, but these were legitimately delicious. Fresh, warm, perfectly seasoned rice, with a hefty amount of yummy, creamy salmon inside (there were several other flavors, that Im excited to try). They also had a bunch of my favorite Japanese candy and snacks. I will definitely be back to sample everything else.

Comment: The food here is tasty. Talking with the owner I could tell that he cares about all the food he painstakingly prepares. The space is small but he is very hospitable. He also sells a small selection of Japanese sweets as well at decent prices.

Comment: Cool place, really nice staff. Not sure if the guy there was the owner but he was kind, and made nice conversation while I waited for my veggie onigiri (which was good btw!) and my tea which was offered at his recommendation when they were out of regular iced tea (which was also good!). Would definitely come back :)

Comment: Sweet little neighborhood Anamoly in Jackson heights right off of Roosevelt ave We really enjoyed chatting the the chef/owner and tried a few things including the adorable heart shaped onigiri basically a sushi roll in a slightly different format and with less nori (seaweed wrapper). We like the spicy crab filing and since most of the assorted flavors are ready to pickup for 2.50 each we will be trying various flavors next time.He showed me the tonkatsu sandwich and when he opened the box the delicious smell promoted me to buy one to eat later. We were on a Jackson heights food safari searching for street tacos and had already had various snack items. It was tasty and even better when we doused a bit more sauce (soy vey teriyaki) on it. My one comment so far is that Id like the rice to have more seasoning or have some ginger wasabi or such on the side to add more punch.

Comment: The owner, Oda-san, is super nice and the food is delicious and authentically Japanese. Everything is also at a fair price. The tonkotsu ramen is delicious and reminds me of the ramen I ate in Japan. He also serves heart shaped onigiri and tonkotsu and chicken rice burgers. Ive been here at least 10 times in the past week. I cant recommend trying this place enough especially if you like coffee, tea, or Japanese food. 10 stars if I could!

Comment: Owner is great! Good coffee, tasty ramen, and a super casual atmosphere make this place a hidden gem and the slight distance from the 7 train make this place quieter than most Roosevelt Ave. eateries. Definitely coming back.

Comment: I found this place while searching up Rice balls a.k.a. Onigiri and I wasnt disappointed. This place is pretty cozy and the owner is one of the friendliest people I have met with a good sense of humor. It was very good, delicious and cheap too. His Rice balls are very delicious and just 50 cents more for a full seaweed wrap on which ever food you want inside whether its salmon, chicken, tuna etc. With or without the added seaweed it is still very delicious. I recommend it to all.

I gave him a tip and he said he donates his tips to the hospital, what a caring person! Im definitely going to be coming back, the rice balls are shaped in big hearts of course, to represent the owners very big heart :) Thank you so much, Oda-San! I loved the onigiri which you made fresh and I will come back soon! 😄❤️🍙
