Very easy to get to off the R line (though in a strip mall with parking if you’re driving).On the smallish side so I can see how this can feel snug at max capacity. I went on a Friday ~3pm so it was not crowded at all. Note: slightly cheaper on weekdays and get a 5% discount if paying cash.Service was great, very attentive and polite. As soon as I checked off my order they swooped by and I never had to wait long on refills. Everything tasted fresh and since I was dining solo, I avoided the rolls or heavier dishes like udon or tempura cause I’d fill up too fast (my strategy was to net out even haha). I would come again with a group so I can sample a larger variety, but it’s not a place I would go out of my way for regularly.Give it a shot and pace yourself 😋

The place is a bit small with limited seating so I do suggest coming here early to grab a seat as they tend to get busy around 7-8pm and the wait can be long. There is so many sushi, appetizers, sashimi etc to choose from. Definitely arrive hungry so you can try different things from the menu! The staff is helpful and the food definitely comes out quick!

Comment: Definitely pricey it was like $40 pp and you had to pay tax and tip sooo. AYCE here is fun in the sense you can just go for anything and try it out instead of sticking to what you know best. Service is very quick here definitely go for any sashimi but the fried scallop and special like the salmon carpaccio (always go for the specials theyre worth it!!) You get three menus (idk if you can ask for more) but the three of us used one menu to number how many of each item we wanted and gave it to them to make and we did it three times. DONT GET THE EDAMAME IT IS SO LARGE IT IS A MAIN DISH KILLER!!

I ordered for pick up but need help to change to delivery, they didnt care to help, I just have to find my way to get it myself. It is absurd that they have construction going on at the front for outdoor seating and the business is opened for customers at the same time. I have to go through that myself to get my food, luckily no piece of wood fallen on my head.

Comment: I have been wanting to try Akino for awhile and so on our way back from Connecticut my wife and I made sure to stop in on our way home. It was a Sunday night and was pretty busy, no wait, but almost completely full. The place itself is kinda small, but it is laid out nice as to not feel too cramped. It was decorated for Halloween and overall the dining atmosphere was very enjoyable. Parking could be an issue as there is a grocery store aside of it.The service was very good. All the staff was very friendly, pleasant and attentive. The food was prepared in a timely fashion and was presented well.The fish was fresh and delicious and the kitchen apps were all served at appropriate temperatures. The nigiri and roll pieces are a bit smaller than other AYCE places which is fine with me as the ratios of fish/rice was still good. I just was noting as it may be better for those who are worried they wouldn’t be able to try a few rolls. I usually go for more sashimi which I found to be delicious and I appreciated that everything was cut uniformly and presented well.If I were to nitpick something it would be that the spicy rolls had a bit too much tempura (as I like spicy rolls without tempura), but not a big deal.I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.Thanks to all the staff.

Comment: I came for Friday dinner. When I got here, the exterior seemed... not the best. It didnt seem like a 4.4-star restaurant. And the plastic utensils and plates, which I assume started during COVID, were not my favorite.But the servers and the food wowed me! Servers were welcoming, nice, fast, and receptive to requests. Food came out quickly, and maki/rolls werent 50% rice (thats a first!), and the menu had a good range of sashimi selection. They had abalone for the monthly special, and it was fresh and delicious. It started to get crowded, but it was not loud or crazy.It was $42 per person before tip and tax, and it was worth every penny. I need to come back. I can easily say this was one of my favorite AYCE places in New York. Highly recommended!

Comment: The most recent time I went to Akino (a few months ago), I noticed that the quality and taste of one of my favorite signature dishes (Dynamite Roll) went down which disappointed me a lot. When it was given to us, it tasted a little cold and dry, unlike its usual hot and rich taste. Besides this, the other rolls I ordered were fine. The service is great, as usual. I just hope the next time I visit, the Dynamite Roll tastes better.

Bonus points for not putting a hand full of rice around a tiny piece of fish! The dragon balls are quite possibly my favorite thing on the menu, but you can’t go wrong with any of the specialty rolls.Side note, it’s nice that they allow BYOB but the corking fee is a little much, but they also sell beer and sake so you’re better off just buying from them.

We were super excited that Akino was open on the holiday and werent really expecting a lot of people, but when we arrived (without a reservation), it was almost full. We were lucky that they had an open table for two, but that was the last open table for two.They were super busy and one of the staff gave us our waters. My husband saw that there were particles floating in our water and a rim around the cups as if they werent washed properly and asked for new waters, to which the staff member apologized and gave us new cups.We ordered a lot of sushi and fried food and just about everything was delicious! The fried chicken is so good and addicting! Its crispy, crunchy, juicy, and a little tangy from their marinade. I dont know how they make it, but I want their recipe so bad! The mackerel nigiri is presented really nice and my husband loved the flavor. The teriyaki and katsu were a nice break from sushi. We ordered a spicy tuna roll and it tasted odd like it had gone bad so we let the staff know and they took it away. Aside from the water and spicy tuna, everything was amazing! I look forward to going back to Akino and highly recommend it!

That said, many restaurants are still recovering from the COVID era. Great fresh made food. Fast service. Still a big 5 for quality and consistency!!! I consider this a must-do when visiting the Big Apple. Great for those who want to experience the off the beaten track classic mom & pop experience that NYC is known for. Loved it! Will return again. Make sure your try the dragonballs- they are chopped tuna and salmon topped w avocado shaped like pearls. You want to pace yourself so that you don’t stuff yourself too early. I also recommend the hot food, too. Try the steaks and ribs, it’s juicy and marinated well. The only negative is the price; quite expensive per person. Fast service and they do provide a discount if pay in cash.

Price for the AYCE was $38.99 each.Contrary to some other reviews, and reviews in other places as well, we found that the sushi came with just enough rice, not too much. Some sushi was really good, some others we didnt like that much but still the quality looked good. Paying with cash was a better option than paying with card.The place looked nice and clean. However, we noticed an overuse of plastic (glasses, plates...), which could be a point of improvement.Overall a great dinner. Would repeat, and recommend to others.

Coming from a sushi connoisseur, the fish is always fresh (especially the salmon), and the portions are smaller than a normal sushi restaurant (although Im thankful for that because it is AYCE, just make sure to order more of your favorites!). I really like how this establishment lets you order sashimi, ikura, and surf clams as opposed to a normal AYCE sushi place. If you really want to get the biggest bang for your buck, skip the rolls/appetizers and go straight to the sashimi :))) The staff is also really friendly. I paid $36.99 + tip/tax -> $45 per person for a Saturday dinner. We also got free ice cream for following them on Instagram (choice of green tea, red bean, and vanilla). I would go here more often if it wasnt so expensive, since this is definitely one of the more luxurious places. If you want to pay more than $10 less, then I suggest going to Brooklyn for AYCE sushi.

Because food trickles out slowly instead of all at once, its easy to order more than you can eat! They will check in with you if they see you slowing down to make sure you still want what you ordered. Comment: I used to go to an AYCE sushi spot in the city but this place is my go to now! Akino might just be the best AYCE sushi/sashimi restaurant in NYC. Great quality for the price. Friendly service. Only downside is that they don’t serve alcohol. Highly recommended

Comment: I went for the dinner option which was $10 more than the lunch option. I am always skeptical about AYCE sushi because of the large amounts of rice that places time. It was not the case with Akino, I was not disappointed.I completely forgot the name of the rolls but they were really good and the rice portions were just right, not too excessive. The sashimi was really good as well, they dont cut the pieces too thick. My favorite was the shrimp, I just couldnt get enough after the first batch.Another great thing was the service. The waitress was super friendly and made me feel comfortable here. I will definitely be back.

Comment: Came here for sushi buffet. Lunch menu actually does not include sashimi options so sadly we decided to pay an extra $10 for the dinner menu which provides it. The service was great though! The white tuna sashimi and eel sushi was delicious. Also liked their monthly special. The salmon was pretty fresh too. One of there servers, Shane was super friendly and had a nice welcoming smile :)

Comment: Sometimes it takes a while for the sushi/sashimi to come, but the food quality is decent and this is definitely worth the price for all-you-can-eat. Akino is conveniently located right by Elmhurst station, too!

Comment: Great food considering its AYCE. Staff is friendly and service is quick. My first waitress was bilingual in English and Cantonese and helped translate menu items to my parents. Nigiri is served for lunch and sashimi for dinner.

Comment: Went here for dinner, the staff was very friendly, and the food was just amazing. Its a little pricey compared to how much i spend on lunch/dinner but the visit i made was worth it. Loved the sushi, sashimi, the rolls and the beef teriyaki!

Comment: Really good sushi, fresh. Had all assortments of sushi, sashimi, salmon ball, tuna ball, salmon teriyaki, please look at the pics as I wrote down what the plate is and you can have an idea of what we ordered. I really enjoyed the experience, went with 2 friends and we all 4 enjoyed it. No dessert menu. Which Im ok with that but my friends would of preferred an option. No alcohol either.

Comment: We came for a birthday party. They were extremely nice considering we were very disorganized. The sushi was delicious. Most rolls were 4.50. The special rolls were 12 and you can get a second special roll for half off. Hubby didnt like sushi but they had katsu as well as fried rice that he ate. If you pay cash you get 5% off. They also have all you can eat sushi. The drawbacks are the space inside is small and their parking lot can get crazy.

Comment: You can’t beat $16.99 for an all you can eat sushi buffet, especially being the only one in Elmhurst. Sushi rolls take forever to get back to you after you order. At first they taste great, but afterwards there’s nothing special about it. Items ordered off the kitchen section are like appetizers and will arrive fairly quickly, but they could be fresher and more flavorful.

Comment: Whoops I ate it all!!! Solid! I was skeptical at first but the sushi and the food was done well with generous amounts of fish and ingredients. The quality of fish is very good and as long as you dont expect an elite level of fish and preparation you will not be disappointed. Yummy!

Comment: The foods taste great and looks really good. Well worth. It is one those restaurant that discourage food so just keep in mind how much youre ordering, because you will be charge for leftovers. Their signature sushi taste really good and the portion is good. However their temperas are order by unit. Like if you order a broccoli tempura you literally get 1 broccoli tempura, which is cool at least you have more freedom to customize when ordering.

Comment: Be a “all u can eat” sushi restaurant, itz an amazing place that they make a perfect balance between cost and quality. The service is pleasant but our orders sometimes need wait for a while. I recommend their rolls than sushi, but who cares that in all u can eat restaurant. I love this place and definitely visit again.
