Comment: Close to the hotel, we chose Ashbox!The decoration is as cute as anything, friendly, calm, I really like the plants and the objects on the shelves,I had tofu with ginger and onigiri with salmon and hot lemonade with honey, it was very good, light and healthy. It is possible to eat on site and take away,The welcome is very warm, Madame is very kind. When we left, we forgot a hat and a neck warmer, she ran behind us to give them to us.If you want to eat Japanese food, I recommend Ashbox!

The store-owner does everything by herself, so it’s not a fast operation but she does make everything on hand as you order it.The store has been blocked off mostly except for a few tables in the front - no bathrooms or wifi, mostly a quick stop for people to get their lunch. Prices are very reasonable, recommend getting 2-3 things since they’re on the smaller size.

I also love the rice soup with plum but there are lots of options of combinations such as tuna or salmon and different freshly made specials each day. I suggest you arrive early day from around 11am as it is very popular with locals in the know. Enjoy!

This was one of the first businesses in the formerly industrial tip top of Greenpoint, and it’s longevity while most OG Greenpoint gems have disappeared is testimony to her lovely cooking and magic vibes. You can tell she puts her heart into her food.If you follow Ash Box on Instagram you can see what special menu items she’s working on, & she finds a happy medium between comfort food & healthy options. It’s also sold at affordable prices for a good portion (e.g. $6.50 for a spicy tuna poke), & way more filling than expected for the 12 oz cup.Of her regular menu options, I love her egg salad sandwich, the hibiscus tea + lemonade, & the spicy tuna poke bowl. Service can be a little slow during the lunch rush though but I highly recommend stopping by if you are in the neighborhood.
