Comment: - cute Japanese matcha bar + snacks- only 3 entrees to pick from- we got the private little Japanese house room, super cute but can get stuffy- matcha cocktails were spot on; really well mixed and delicious- the matcha/mochi was insanely good; the mochi is so well madeFor matcha+mochi, this is the place.

Comment: We got the limited winter afternoon tea set and everything was really delicious! We were taken to a cute room upstairs that had a calm atmosphere and everyones tables were spaced decently far apart for privacy. The dessert course was refreshing and not too heavy/sweet which I appreciated ^_^

Comment: We stopped into Cha-An on a cold rainy day which made the desserts here even more perfect. As a Japanese food and dessert lover I was ecstatic to find a place like Cha-An so close to where we were hanging out.We ordered the hot matcha latte, dango, salmon box, anmitsu, and rosemary orange tea (not pictured). The hot matcha latte was easily the best matcha latte I’ve had in my entire life. Let me say that again. This was the best matcha latte I’ve had in my entire life. The matcha flavor was amazing and the sweetness level was literally perfect. Paired with the cold and wet weather outside and I could not imagine a more perfect matcha experience. I still think about this latte from time to time, crushed by the fact that thousands of miles separate us.The anmitsu was also extreme tasty. The hojicha ice cream paired well with the chewy mochi, crystal jelly, and sugar syrup. I’m not sure what the maple leaf was but it was chewy and had a very mild flavor that I didn’t particular like but didn’t mind. The rosemary orange tea was quite interesting.I only had a bite of the sweet yam dango but the mochi texture was amazing and had a perfect sweetness level.I did not try the salmon box but was told it was also amazing.Overall I was extremely satisfied with my visit to Cha-An. The flavors of everything were amazing and it has earned them a spot in my must-try NYC list. My only complaint is that the prices are fairly expensive, even for NYC standards. At the time of our visit the hot matcha latte was $15 and the anmitsu was nearly $20 for that little cup of dessert. All that being said, I 100% see myself here again the next time I’m in town.

Comment: Cha An is definitely a must-taste for NYC! I attended their special event tea with my friend and we were blown away by the exquisitely and harmoniously crafted array of savory and sweet snacks. Not only were the flavors for each small delicacy a flavor journey on its own, but the progression of small bites was such that each bite was a pleasant entryway to the next. We particularly loved the pairing of the Kyoto Matcha Tea and the Rose Green Tea with the dishes as a way of rounding out both the taste and temperature, leaving our stomachs very happy at the end. Highlights include the finely sifted gelatin dishes, a tiny matcha choux, warabi mochi, and strawberry matcha tiramisu cake. The presentation of the dishes was beautiful as well, and the staff were kind and considerate. We will definitely be coming back :)

Comment: Ive been waiting for so long to go to Cha-an and this little gem thats tucked away blew my MIND. The vibes were a dim, but peaceful tea house. We got the matcha parfait, strawberry parfait, and the black sesame creme brûlée. The desserts are perfectly plated and it reminded me of Japan. You LITERALLY get what you order, it looks just like the menu. The matcha parfait had a tea flavored jelly on the bottom that paired well with the matcha and red bean. The mochi were perfect on both parfaits. There were so many textures, it was just simply fun to eat and combine all the flavors. The black sesame ice cream was AMAZING. The black sesames added a nice crunch and the roasted flavor was incredible. I think its homemade because its the best black sesame ice cream Ive ever had.My friend also got a cocktail and she said it was super good! I wish I got one too.

Comment: Very satisfied with the desserts here. Definitely a must go if you are a big matcha fan. Nothing was too overly sweet and was nicely balanced. The presentation is beautiful and very Instagram worthy and the space itself is nice. Certainly on the pricier side for the portions but you wont leave dissatisfied. We got seated in one of the smaller rooms so the noise level wasnt bad. The only issue that I had was the entry area/waiting area is so tight - you literally have to wait on a staircase so its a little dangerous but this kind of thing happens quite often due to the limited space in New York so be careful!

Dessert so pretty and was a great fulfilling one to end the lunch me and my bf had. Love the cornflakes in ice creams. So much texture. The tea was our favorite. Comment: Only came in for dessert on a Saturday afternoon, but I was delighted to see that they also have a savory menu! Its a great spot for lighter, Japanese-style desserts. Not too sweet and very aesthetic. The place is small with limited seating, so a wait is expected. Service was very fast and friendly. The menu is small and specialized. Desserts are on the smaller size, but perfect after a filling meal! You pay for the ambiance and specialized desserts, so just know what youre getting yourself into. I would rate the food 4/5 - its good but not mind-blowing or unique, if youve had Japanese-style desserts in the past.I highly recommend their seasonal offering (Sakura parfait for April 2023). They have a policy that every customer must order at least one item, so you wont be able to just split one dessert amongst two or more.

Also, very cute interior and service is great. We went on a Thursday night and there was no wait at all. They do close a bit early (8pm) so make sure you plan ahead if you are going after dinner! Only reason I give it 4 stars is because it’s a bit pricey relative to other Asian dessert shops in Manhattan. My friend and I spent $45 on two items after tax and tip. Also, have a to go shop (cha-an bon bon) next door if you are looking for something quick.

Comment: Presentation is really nice in my opinion. The place is nice but youll sit right next to someone, place is tight. The food is pretty good but definitely overpriced. Desserts are great but a little expensive but I think its worth it to be honest. Nice place inside, come with a lot of money or just buy like 2 things each.

Comment: Such a cute a yummy little Japanese tea house. Came here with my husband for dessert on a Saturday around 5:30. We were properly greeted and seated immediately upon arriving. There is a $10/ 1 item per person minimum but its clearly stated on the menu. We ordered an iced matcha latte with oat milk, Cha An Original Sakura Parfait, and the Matcha Kakigori. The matcha was so deliciously creamy and smooth. The desserts arrived to our table after about 15min. Both were so uniquely delicious and I was surprised at the size of the desserts! The menu is pretty pricey but a unique enough experience to justify spending that much. Staff was friendly and enthusiastic. Had a great experience and would love to come back for a date night.

Comment: The most kawaii, ippo (CUTE) little place that you will you ever eat at!! Now you should be aware that theres lots of matcha infused items, but there are plenty of options for people that dont savor the green cruise control drink. Very THICK piece of toast topped with hot egg salad was very filling, black sesame creme brulee was delectable, whisked matcha affogato had a sweet matcha infusion that was unforgettable.

When I came last time, black sesame creme brulee was sold out. The best thing they have honestly. Their offshoot has amazing ice cream too. This place is a must and a staple.

Comment: Tried the Hoji Tiramisu. Good enough quantity and good taste for $5.5. It has a slightly bitterish taste compared to Matcha but if you like Matcha you probably will end up liking this too. Overall it was subtle, not too sweet. It is a small place with no indoor dining, just outdoor seating.

Comment: I used to come here in 2003, 2004 with my Japanese friends. The fact that it is still here after all these years proves that it must be good to survive the worst financial crisis in 2008.The lunch set was very reasonably priced and very delicious.I came here to try the matcha tiramisu which is creamy light with taste of red bean and green tea. It is a bit pricey as it costs more than the lunch set. It’s a bit too much cream for me. To me, it’s better share it with someone. The bill came with suggested tips which I think is unnecessary because customers know how much to tip if they are happy.

Comment: They dont serve hot water? That made no sense to me. Other than that, the set meal exceeded my expectations. $25 for the set meal comes with everything you would want in a meal, soup, pickles, sampler, tofu rice and dessert. It reminds of when I went to Japan and enjoyed a similar experience. The donburi is good too. If you’re willing to spend a good amount of money on high quality food, this is the place to go. I reccomend coming Saturday at 12. Quite empty.

Comment: First of all the vibe of this place is very calm and zen like. Tables are spaced out decent. The service was great. Everytime my water was finished in the glass, someone came and filled it up. For appetizer I got the mini appetizer sample and Chicken Don. The picture on the menu didnt look like a lot, but when it was served it was a good portion. Came with desert and some side dishes. I also get the chefs special dessert, three different types of chocolate with the different level sweet tea. Overall I would recommend this place. Great food, service and vibe.

Comment: One of my favorites! Id recommend everyone come here to try the desserts. If you like tea/matcha, definitely have a drink here. I also enjoy the donburis with their seven-grain rice. I usually get the tofu one, theyve recently added a chicken one but its alright. Unagi also good. They also recently added a mini dessert custard/pudding to the donburis which was a lovely touch. Donburi came with tofu, pickles, and salad so makes for a great meal. For desserts, definitely recommend Mochi Moch! The parfaits are great too and honestly I dont think you can go wrong. Go with a few people and share some desserts.Service is always great and the place is very quiet but good for conversation. Note that you need to walk up a steep set of stairs to get there.

Comment: This teahouse is in an upstairs space with great decorations. You’re pretty much paying for the food plus ambiance though (about $15 per dessert here). I had the ice cream with mochi. Loved the rich flavor of the ice cream - definitely taste the hojicha - with the milder green tea jellys and mochi to balance it out. The seasonal special with the cherry blossom ice cream is so beautiful but a little too sweet for my taste. Wish I noticed it earlier but they also have limited amounts of green tea tiramisu.

Comment: Perhaps I had too high of an expectation due to what I’ve heard, but the dessert was just mediocre in terms of taste in my opinion. It wasn’t anything too special, but it tasted fine. We got a Matcha drink, Matcha cake, black sesame crème brûlée and one of the seasonal cherry blossom desserts. The matcha items we ordered tasted as expected. I did like the black sesame crème brûlée in particular since that is something I have not seen offered elsewhere and it actually tasted good here. The cherry blossom seasonal item we ordered, however, was not really to our taste so I wouldn’t really recommend it. Do give the black sesame crème brûlée a try though!

They do amazing job of creating delicious desserts with nuanced flavor profiles without being too decadent or cloyingly sweet (e.g. Whisked Matcha Affogato which has a hint of orange liqueur). Comment: So atmosphere wise, its a nice cozy place. A definite great spot for a date night. I even spotted a 2 seater with the wall seat decorated like a small oriental window so thats a nice seat for Instagram pics. Now in terms of dessert, everything was great except the jewelry box. In my opinion, the overall thing was underwhelming for its 30 dollar price point, but maybe thats because Ive had many of its individual components elsewhere for better taste and value. The other desserts though were very good. The matcha parfait has nice texture with the cereal added in between; ice cream not too sweet and its got hoji tea jelly on the bottom to help blend the sweet and mild tones together. I had some oolong cocktail that I forgot the name of (it had blueberry in its name), and that was refreshing. I tasted no alcohol, so it was just a tea for me lol.

Before 7pm, they serve lunch/dinner type of meals and it may look like a small platter, but man was that filling! Price was sooo worth it too! First time I went here was solely for dessert and the 2nd time was for both but mostly dinner (too full for more food). Get the hot matcha with red beans tea drink! Comment: We went here for tea and dessert after our dinner. While it was very good, it was hard to get service-- it appeared that there was only one waitress and a busboy for the whole restaurant! She performed admirably given the circumstances and it was hardly her fault, but the manager should have had more wait staff working during such a busy time.

Comment: Some of the best desserts Ive had in Manhattan, but the place is pricey. However, if youre into great Japanese desserts, then Cha An is a must. Well definitely be back.
