Comment: I have driven past this place hundreds of time and for some reason never stopped in. Boy, am I kicking myself now.I went with 3 other folks and we like to try a lot of things when we go to a place the first time. We had three apps; shrimp shumai, spicy garlic boneless wings, and spicy wontons. Each was portioned well and delicious. Not too spicy for the people with me that dont like a lot of heat, but just enough to satisfy someone who likes it hot.I tried the dan dan noodles and a Caterpillar roll. Both were very good, and again a good amount of food. I really liked that there were options for the noodles too. I went with udon. Other entrées were Kaeng Phet (red curry sauce) over noodles, another noodle dish that was fairly spicy and served with a bunch of protein and veggies. The last person just ordered two different specialty rolls, and both were unique and flavorful.This place isnt cheap, but it can be if you dont order a ton like we did. Had a good Sake selection too. Lastly, our server was amazing. She was pleasant and attentive and offered great suggestions. Its not a big place, but thats part of the charm. Totally going to be making this place a regular part of the rotation since its like 5 minutes from my house 😁

Comment: Every time we eat here, the food has been amazing! Extremely flavorful and delicious. Prices are steep compared to other Asian/Japanese restaurants, so we only go on special occasions. The value for the food is there, but it would be nice if they offered some type of dinner meal options for larger families. Besides the food, the service here is absolutely phenomenal! The waiter we have often is extremely kind and patient. It seems like all of the workers here are very happy and enjoy their job, which is nice to see. Definitely try the passion roll, it’s our favorite and the flavor combination is excellent.

Comment: Absolutely loved the sushi here! The waiter was super kind to us, plenty of seating, clean, and absolutely mouth watering food. Get the asparagus, avocado, and the cooked California rolls, those were amazing with flavor! The pineapple and chicken fried rice was also delicious as well as the edamame. The mochi was also very good. I also really liked the chill atmosphere of this place. Overall, highly recommend this place for sushi!

I got the tuna avacado roll which was great, my brother got the Salmon Lovers and we loved the presentation. It was a great amount for the price. He also got the 2 piece eel and said it was the best he had ever had! I would go back again.

Comment: May 2023 - Chakara Sushi is located in the Fairport section of the Rochester area and like Henrietta, is close to Lake Ontario. Our party of five had a nice dinner here. Service was a little slow as we sat at our table for some time without any wait staff appearing, but after I got up and flagged down one of the servers it was fine afterwards. We shared all orders but my spicy tuna hand roll and my companions grilled salmon dinner which were both very good. The shrimp shumai and fried pork gyoza appetizers were what we all expected and well received. The edamame was a small serving that gave us all about three pieces and could have been steamed longer both in terms of temperature and doneness. The six rolls we agreed on were all fine bites. Unique selection of specialty cocktails.

Comment: My son wanted to take me here one night. Apparently hed gone there many times and wanted to take me and the rest of the family. When I walked in with him the gentlemen at the front desk had said are you his mother? You have raised a fine young man and kept commenting and praising about what a great and polite young man that he was. I was very impressed. He set us down to eat and Jordan ordered what he wanted and stressed his allergies and this restaurant went above and beyond with my son and made him things that they normally make with eggs and they made it without eggs just so he could have it. Apparently they had been doing this every time he came in. I was very very impressed with how they treated him and the care that they took to make sure that he could eat despite his allergies. It is one place that I would highly recommend especially if someone has allergies because they go above and beyond.

Comment: The food is good, the owner is great. Not sure it is worth the $80 for the boat though, maybe more like $60? The places in the city that are just as good dont charge as much. The portions seem small! The sake, however, was lovely. They have several kinds--a lot of variety--and have flights available. The fried ice cream was okay! A little undercooked, but good.Overall I would say the decor and the owners passion for his business will bring us back.ETA: fish is imported from Japan? Owner can probably tell you all about it. He really is a treat. #1 counterfeited item in the world is seafood, and this was not that.

Comment: Andy (the owner) is particular about the food and service at Chakara. I have often been to Chakara for take-out and dine-in, and I have never had a bad cocktail or food. My favorite cocktail is a dirty martini. My mother loves the sautéed noodles, and I love all the menu items.They recently had a shipment of Uni (Sea Urchin), which was amazing. I hope the restaurant gets another shipment soon! I have posted this pictures of the uni and other sushi dishes I have had. My photos do not do the food justice!

Comment: This will be my 6th time here, and I absouloutley love the feeling and food of this place, the atomsphere is great, especially that cool light-insignia thing in the entryway, and a young gentleman, I always forget his name. But he knows me and always greets me, I remember him because we like to discuss my job at van bortel subaru so if he sees this, I hope he knows he does a GREAT job with customers, people like me LOVE the attitude this guy has, and for the food, I recommend the first kiss roll, and dragon roll. Awsome rolls, amazing sizes, well worth the prices. I try to make my reviews as detailed as possible, but this place, truly is like no other sushi place out there, but dont take my word for it, take your own when you try it yourself. They have a ton of appetizers, which are great to share with your group. Their soups are outstanding. They have a sake flight which is unique and tasty. For non-drinkers, they have a ton of hot teas to choose from.All of the sushi I’ve had there so far on my four trips had been incredible. Beautifully presented, and the sashimi and the cooked sushi rolls are all fantastic. Their menu is massive, so it gives me plenty of opportunities to try out more of their delicious food!

The dishes are simple but always very fresh and bursting with flavors. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a very outgoing staff and hostess. Had the pink lady sushi roll as an appetizer and IMO was the best sushi roll of my life! Had some delicious cocktails (cucumber breeze is amazing), I ordered the Japan entree with fried rice. It was so much food I had to bring some home and save room for the fried ice cream! Overall this place has an amazing atmosphere and the food is great. Going back very soon

Comment: We started coming in regularly a few months ago when we ordered the love boat and the rest was history. We instantly fell in love with the atmosphere of the place and how cozy it was. They know my significant other by name and are very personable people who we feel very comfortable with. The service is great and Henry is always very kind and polite. Vince is also great and we love conversing with him. Both the waiters and the chef always go above and beyond to ensure everything is good. They always greet us when we come in and they always say goodbye when we depart. The chef never fails to impress me with the quality of the food, and everything weve gotten has been delicious. I am usually afraid to try new things when I order from restaurants, but in this case Im very excited to. Hands down my favorite sushi place. Feels like a home I never knew I had. Food was amazing. Henry our server has an amazing voice (didnt realize her sings in an opera) beautiful happy birthday song he sang to my daughter. The whole place gave him a standing ovation. A few of our favorites are the spicy maki combo, shrimp rice paper wraps, coconut chicken soup, and too many of their sushi rolls to list! I got the dragon roll, passion roll and I believe the firecracker but I might be wrong. 2 of the 3 tolls were raw fish which Im not a huge raw sushi person but this was incredible, so fresh. Amazing flavor, you got big rolls and the presentation was so pretty! The customer service was outstanding! I will 100% be going back for more! Don’t be discouraged by the raw part, it is poly-cooked and doesn’t taste much like raw fish. I would 100% suggest this roll to anybody who visits. The service was absolutely amazing, our hostess was astoundingly nice and a pleasure to talk to. This is one of the best restaurants I have found in Rochester and the best sushi restaurant I have found period. Definitely suggest to all in the area.

The level of finesse in the presentation is something to be seen for some of the dishes. The cook on the vegetables and meats are perfect EVERY time. The portions are perfect size and the price is not bad either. The staff is always friendly and hard working. There is also a sushi chef making fresh sushi for your dish (right in the dining room area). They offer a selection of Japanese alcoholic drinks (including beers). In all honesty, if there is 1 place in this city I recommend you eat at... its Chakara!

Everyone ordered something different. I almost posted pics of our empty plates. The sushi bar was beautiful with fresh looking fish. Quite a few patrons were ordering it. My mother in law said the red wine was delicious! We met the chef on a previous visit and he did not speak English and was a very humble man. Worth the trip... great selections? Excellent, excellent Thai iced tea. Service fast. We were the at 6pm on a Sunday night, and the place was empty. I just do not get that. With the reviews here and on Urbanspoon - we figured we would have to wait an hour for a table! If you are in the area - go, quick.
