Comment: Honestly top notch quality. I love the salmon combo and enjoy the different kinds of rolls a lot. Sushi rice is seasoned better than almost anywhere I’ve had aside from extremely upscale/pricy places and really takes the food to a top quality level. Katsu and salmon don (bowls) are delicious. Menu is straightforward and the restaurant is clean and no frills- the food is fantastic. Great prices too. Best kept secret in the neighborhood. This is my favorite place to get sushi in Harlem, but also better than anywhere that delivers to Harlem, so it’s pretty dang good!

Today I arrived too late however the sushi chef was kind enough to give me two complimentary shrimp tempura which was fresh and the right crisp.New Favorite Item: Fried crab sticks- the right amount of fluff and crisp I really enjoyed this.

Comment: There’s a dearth of good Asian food in east central Harlem, but Charlie’s goes a long way to make up the gap. It’s a sushi staple and a go to for us when we need quick and easy takeout. The fish seems fresh and the rolls, while not super imaginative, are very consistent. The staff is all super friendly.Definitely take out only. They’ve got a few tables in a pinch but it’s not someplace you want to stay and chat.

Comment: The shrimp shumami here Id delicious. Been looking for alternative to those thick Chinese dumpling. I like to add a little chili pepper to some soy sauce and thats what I use as a dipping sauce. Everything there is fresh, I like to eat there when I Want A light meal.

Comment: The food here is good, but what makes it a restaurant worth visiting regularly is their prices. The value is insane. I cant remember the last time I went out and received this much food for my money. Its filling, tasty, and doesnt leave you feeling unhealthy or heavy afterwards.The tofu steak sounds like a boring dish, but I think its pretty tasty. The outside is crisp and white despite being fried, which I think is interesting. The inside is just standard tofu. Then its coated in ponzu (?) sauce and a sprinkling of sesame seeds and served over some cabbage, or it might have been lettuce. Im not too sure.The miso soup is standard.The beef bowl combo is also pretty good (although I again concede that it sounds boring). I believe its some kind of marinated beef, served in chunks slightly larger than ground beef normally is. It comes with some sesame seeds and pickled vegetables over rice, as well as a house salad (lettuce, carrots, and sesame-flavored dressing) and a drink.The most recent dish Ive tried from Charlies place is the tuna combo. I had one piece that was rather fishy, and the rest was just okay. Im still undecided on their sushi selection.

Comment: Charlies Place is a great place to grab a quick lunch or dinner. Their teriyaki meals are an excellent value at $8, and they make sushi to order (they also have prepackaged sushi meals). The quality is very good for the price (even if the salmon teriyaki is a bit overcooked for my taste) and the people who run the place are very friendly. My favorite meal is gyoza with a sushi roll and seaweed salad. They deliver, but since theyre right down the street I always stop in myself. A great neighborhood spot!
