Comment: Came alone to try this place out and it was fantastic. The flavors of the dishes are all so unique and well crafted to perfection. I got the spicy tuna over crispy rice, fried oyster and shrimp combo, steak and pumpkin cheesecake (I finished everything). Service was great and ambiance was such a vibe. Please try any seasonal drink they have, it was recommended to me by my server Kilki (I apologize if I spelled the name wrong) and it was probably one of the best drinks I ever had. She also recommended a cabbage started which was very refreshing. She was amazing and I will be coming back with friends. Comment: Beautiful cozy izakaya so close to home. Have been following their Instagram for a while now and I’m mad I haven’t visited sooner. The food looks so good and the actual experience of eating it is even better. I’ve had my eyes on the matcha sour cocktail for a while and it certainly came through. One of the best cocktails I’ve ever had. The Cesar salad with daikon chips is my favorite Cesar salad now. It’s quite big too. The goma appetizer was a mystery but when we found out it was yellowtail sashimi we ordered it up. It knocked other yellowtail apps out of the park. The garlicky shrimp was excellent too but be prepared to navigate your way around the whole shell situation. I’m good at that, my partner not so much 😂. Then we got both mazumens - the soft shell crab and the mushroom and wow the noodles are so good! I preferred the mushroom for the flavor and the runny egg on top but if you’re a fan of soft shell crab, definitely try the crab mazumen. Will certainly be coming back to this cozy, beautiful, delicious haven of goodness very soon to try everything else on the menu - so happy it’s in the neighborhood.

Comment: What an exciting new place in the neighborhood- I live a bit away from Gowanus, but it was a quick trip to visit here. Glad weve found a really good/casual izakaya in the area! Vibe seems nice- casual, hip, comfortable and the service was good as well. We really enjoyed all our foods, addictive cabbage was really addictive starter and we had mochiko karaage, which was good woth spicy mayo and okonomiyaki potato was so crispy and yum- must try! Crispy rice roll was like deconstruted onigiri, which was good- its not a roll, so dont get confused ;) we shared pork chop for main which was great(no pics as we devoured lol) sesame icecream was unexpectedly enjoyable with honey drizzle!! well curated drink list for everyone, just glad to find a nice spot in the neighborhood that you cam emjoy casual drinks with different dishes. Need to be back to try other menus and drinks! Highly recommend!!

Comment: The restaurant has a cool and chic vibe. The service was friendly and attentive and the food came out quickly. The food was outstanding. The karaage was perfectly fried and the chicken was incredibly juicy. The fried potatoes were so crispy and flavorful and bonito flakes were fun. The curry mussels were a bit too salty, which dimmed the curry flavor. The pork mazesoba was luscious and the noodles were perfectly cooked but the miso flavor was a bit overpowering. Would definitely return and recommend!

Comment: I was a bit skeptical of all the 5 star reviews and thought, could it really be that good? Let me tell you, I was blown away. Cotra Izakaya in Gowanus is simultaneously cozy and hip and creates the perfect backdrop for a flavorful and well-serviced meal!I split a few plates including the shishito peppers, hamachi ponzu, spicy tuna crispy rice sushi and the skirt steak. The hamachi ponzu was excellent and so refreshing. One of the staff even came over to explain the best way to eat it 😊I also got the mezcal drink which was fantastic, 10/10.Cotra in Gowanus is the ultimate neighborhood sushi spot.

Comment: Great space, service, cocktails, and food. We kept ordering and could not find anything that wasn’t wonderful. We were very well guided by our server. The Goma Kampachi and the spicy tuna roll with crispy rice were favorites. The steak dish had a little too much sauce but that might just be me. Happy hour deals on drinks on a Friday is just a nice, inviting touch. Definitely coming back!

Cool atmosphere with a spacious interior with a view of the kitchen. We had an early dinner so wasnt full at all (initially).As the dishes arent too huge, The server recommended 3 dishes per guest. That was good advice as that was the perfect amount of food.Sure, you can order the sushi, but that should take a back seat to all the other dishes. The cabbage and fried Oysters both came with unique sauces that tasted amazing. The Hamache had this ponzu/citrus flavor that was loaded with fresh scallions.Get the soft shelled crab as that was loaded was one of the best when eating with the noodles!By the time we left the restaurant was full. Always good sign the restaurant knows how to work it.

This is going to become a neighborhood gem for years to come but also very worth the travel if you’re coming from farther away! Comment: This was one of the best meals ive had in new york - i could eat the addictive cabbage everyday and the drunken garlic shrimp was delicious. The jasmine martini was also super unique and really tasty - tried a sip of my friends matcha jade sour and it was superb. Comment: Went to Cotra with a couple of friends on a Saturday night and it was amazing! Solid cocktails and memorable dishes. I had the Porco Rosso and Hanabi drinks which were delicious. We shared a couple of plates and the standouts were the addictive cabbage, yuzu olives, sake kasu Caesar salad, oyster mushroom karaage, fried oysters, hamachi, skirt steak, garlic fried rice, drunken garlic shrimp, and tamago egg roll. The chicken was super crispy and packed with lots of flavor and you MUST order the addictive cabbage, sooo good! We also got the crab, garlic fried rice, and a variety of sushi. Everything was 10/10!
