Comment: Cute little Japanese cafe! I stopped in at their to go location (the cafe is split into two spaces) and ordered the hojicha latte (roasted green tea) with almond milk and the berry toast. The flavor of the latte was strong and not sweet, which I loved. The toast was fluffy and filling. They use Japanese milk bread, which is quite thick but airy, and I believe the jam was homemade. It was an excellent pairing. The staff were also very friendly! The area with seating looked a little crowded, but I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon. Maybe theres more space during the weekdays.

Comment: 🇯🇵Japanese-style coffee shops in NYC are really something. 🗽☕️ Davelle is definitely a place worth visiting despite the crazy lines and wait time. This small store serves the BEST toasts and uni pasta. My personal favorites were the mentaiko mayonnaise toast and the black sesame and cream cheese toast topped with kinako🍞. In total, my best friend and I had the 🍓berry and cream cheese toast, mentai mayo toast (spicy cod roe), black sesame and cream cheese toast, and uni spaghetti (sea urchin, tomato, radish sprouts, seaweed, lemon, soy sauce)🍝. Would recommend this cafe to any early birds 🪶in the area just because of how crowded this place gets past 10AM⌚️!

Comment: The wait kind of sucks (it kept changing from 30 minutes to an additional 20 minutes and then the host forgot who we were...), but the toast was cute. Portions are a little small, but they taste good. You should have room for everything you want to put in your mouth here.

Comment: Cute little cafe and restaurant with an intimate ambiance. One half of the cafe has drinks only, so you can stop in and grab one of those to go, or you can sit down and order from the menu. The toasts are the main draw, but I adored the black sesame latte I got. I was craving something savory so I got the Ham Egg Toast, and I wish I had sprung for something more unique. It was good, but nothing super noteworthy about it.

Comment: The food is as amazing as they look. The people there are so kind and the service is good. The location is very small and bit tight, but we make due. What we ordered :- black sesame latte kinako latte 10/10, semi sweet, light frothy, and creamy- black sesame and cream cheese toast 10/10, light and creaminess with a nice half-inch toast thats soft on inside. Must must try- mentai spaghetti 10/10, savory and light creaminess with suggestive flavors of the Cod roe- chicken katsu Don 10/10, chicken cutlet over a fried egg blanketing rice under. The flavors are so delicious.Honestly the whole meal feels so comforting and brought us so mcuh joy. I definitely want to try more on the menu.

Comment: I would like to give rating 3.5.Great place to hangout during lunch with friends. Service was good but sitting place is little small. It was full so I ate outside. They do have separate to-go place so it makes easier to order and pick up.Their toast was pretty and unique, but the taste was normal. I also ordered spaghetti (I think the noodle was ramen noodle), and taste was ok.Berry and Cream Cheese Toast (4/5): very prettyMentai Mayo Toast (3/5): Mentai was too salty and did not get along with toastUni Spaghetti (3.5/4): I barely can taste the uni and too pricyMentai Pasta (4/5): would order again

Comment: Super cute little cafe with great drinks and food. The place is small so there is usually a wait especially on weekends/brunch time. I loved the matcha au lait with the coffee jelly; very lightly sweetened by the jelly and great texture (ended up ordering 2!). The uni pasta was fresh and not fishy, curry katsu was solid but very spice forward if you like that. The mentai Mayo toast was great! Black sesame was a bit strong and messy to eat but was decent. Overall a super cute date or quick coffee spot.

Comment: I’ve been wanting to go to this cafe so bad, that my friend and I trekked out here during the flash flood warnings and not gonna lie, it was worth.A cozy place tucked away in one of the quieter streets of lower east side, Davelle is the very definition of a cafe. A good selection of drinks (a banger hojicha), cute and tasty toasts to choose from, and a variety of pastas and curries to parse through. The uni pasta was delicious, and they were pretty generous with the uni too. We’ll definitely be back! Hopefully we’ll be lucky enough to find another time with less foot traffic, since this place doesn’t take reservations….

Comment: Cute, cozy brunch spot with amazing and creative food! The katsu was amazing and their uni pasta was a surprise hit. All the toasts looked so good, we had the sesame and cream cheese. I would recommend sharing dishes as some of the dishes like the uni pasta can get kinda heavy.I would avoid ordering the special drinks. The matcha au lait was way too sweet and the black sesame kinako latte was average.Otherwise, good spot for a brunch with reasonable prices.

My brother had one of the curries and raced about it. While enjoying my meal, I watched them prepare items from the toast menu. They’re beautiful and look delicious. Comment: Davelle has a cute ambience, but the food looks a lot better than it tastes. The chicken katsu curry was pretty good, but the rice was mushy. The berry cream cheese toast was beautiful and actually quite good. I tried my friend’s lemon toast, and it was too dry. The waitresses were quite busy, and it was hard to get their attention. I probably wouldn’t come back again unless someone else really wanted to go.

Comment: The cafe is small and hyped, so try avoid peak hours and weekends. Despite the busy crowd, their waitress is super helpful, attentive and friendly.* Mentai SpaghettiMentaiko pasta is my staple whenever I visit a Japanese restaurant. Topped with rich portion of spicy cod roes and fragrant shiso leaves, genuinely recalling the taste of an authentic yoshoku-style pasta. Chewy spaghetti noodles tossed in a creamy mentaiko sauce. I would recommend sharing the plate as it is quite heavy to finish alone.* Black Sesame and Cream Cheese ToastBlack sesame spread and cream cheese slathered on Japanese shokupan milk bread like a checkerboard. When you tear the toast, you could literally feel the fluffy, ethereal and moist texture. The rich and thick black sesame flavor bursted in your mouth, satisfying black sesame lovers to its fullest.* Oat Matcha Latte* Black Sesame Kinako Latte w/ Oat MilkTheir beverages were LEGIT. I guess they used Koyamaen matcha powder, which gave the matcha latte a premium taste. The milk foam was a bit too much for me, but the matcha richness amazed me.While for the black sesame latte, it was tremendously nutty and bold. A deep, earthy aroma flourished, which I must exaggerate it as one of the best black sesame latte I have ever had. Pairing with the black & white toast, it was a delectable black sesame feast.

Comment: It’s a small quaint cafe with limited indoor and outdoor seating, expect a bit of wait on the weekends. Our waitress was very sweet and accommodating. The food did come out relatively fast too.Uni Spaghetti was Delectable. Reordering this next time. The noodles were the perfect texture, chewy and bouncy. The sauce was creamy and rich in umami flavor. Every bite has you wanting more. The portion size was decent too. We cleaned the plate! Absolutely a must try dish.Black Sesame & Cream Cheese Toast: If you like black sesame, you’ll love this. It’s very nutty and not too sweet either. Although the toast was a little dry, the thick cream balanced it out.Honey Lemon Toast: For some reason the toast was very dry for this one. Taste-wise, it was simple. We did think it would’ve been better if they used a honey butter spread or something, perhaps even cinnamon could’ve given it more flavor. Needless to say, it was very underwhelming. The toasts are very aesthetic, but I do wish they were fluffier.Matcha au lait (oat milk) with coffee jelly: This was basically milk with coffee jelly. The jelly was fun to eat at least. Not worth it to be honest.Davelle also has a unique Japanese menu with some savory dishes. I’m already drooling for their noodles again so def planning to come back, curious to try the other flavors like the mentaiko toast, curry and chicken too!

Comment: Looking for a type of authentic Japanese Curry Rice? This it the place. The chicken was so well fried and the curry was perfectly made. A bit spicy but if I can handle it then anyone can. A chef’s kiss to the curry. The drinks were surprisingly really delicious. Black sesame really had a strong black sesame taste which is rare and it wasn’t too sweet, just the right amount. Matcha au lait was probably one of the best matcha lattes I’ve had in the city. Matcha had a very smooth thick flavor and with the coffee jelly it just made it so tasty but keeping the matcha taste. Now as for the toast that has been hyped everywhere on IG, I didn’t find that special not worth the hype. Aesthetically looks great but it’s basically a toast with honey and lemon. Anyone can make it at home. I recommend the savory plates plus drinks. I will go back to try the other plates but not for the toasts.

Lemon adds a lot to the flavor. Honey lemon toast and katsu were amazing as well.Since its a small store, the wait can take about an hour on weekends for walk in lunch, but we were okay sitting outside which can be a shorter wait.

Comment: Absolute gem on a quiet street near Chinatown!! Their foods are so PRETTY and are such tasty Japanese comfort foods😋(they also have such an artsy interior and menu im so in love!)We ordered:1. Black Sesame and Cream Cheese Toast ($12)The visuals and taste are both so dreamy! The thick, sweet, slight nutty taste (almost reminiscent of dark chocolate) goes so well with the creamy cheese. And the milk bread was thick too so it balanced evenly with the thick spreads2. Mentai Spaghetti ($16)Such a beautiful fusion of western and Japanese cuisine! The ramen was cooked to al dente so reminded me of linguini yet the noodles were still bouncy like ramen noodles. Loved the interesting twist of spicy cod roe, especially with the milky and creamy sauce😋 wasn’t really spicy tho!3. Black sesame latte ($6.5)A must-order drink! The sesame taste is strong yet the drink wasn’t heavy at all. The texture is so smooth and nutty. It had a hint of sweetness too🤌🏻They are quite popular tho during the weekends and the space is very small. There’s no reservations so when we came at around 11:30am on a Saturday we waited for 15 mins

Comment: Went for the aesthetic toasts, stayed for everything! I love the pasta, is with a Japanese twist to it sooo delish, definitely a must get, and creamy sauce with savory, strong mentaiko flavors. And the cutest toasts that were definitely a little overhyped, the honey lemon combo was a little interesting. And the drinks is so refreshing with strong flavors!

Comment: Came in to try the toast while in New York. Absolutely beautiful both to eat and to look at. Watching them make it was stunning. Eating it was pretty great too. The black sesame was an acquired taste for me but I loved it. The berries and cream also awesome. Honey lemon is great. Cinnamon was weakest of the 4 but still good.Great coffee too.

Comment: Cute small japanese style cafe with great food and drink selection.🍵 Matcha au lait with coffee jelly — I enjoyed this drink *so* much. The strong matcha flavor blended very well with creamy oat milk. Coffee jelly added more dimension to the drink and made it more special.🍞Black sesame and cream cheese toast — interesting combination on a very thick piece of soft & chewy shokupan.🍛 Curry rice with extra cheese — I found the curry to be just okay. It could have been thicker and had more flavor. The extra cheese didn’t come melted otherwise it’d have been more enjoyable. The chicken katsu was also a bit underwhelming.Overall, my friends and I really enjoyed the food and the ambiance. We would go back 💕

Comment: Everything tasted amazing. I loved the uni pasta, just wished there was a bit more uni. The karage chicken was super good but compared to the side karage there was really only adding a bit salad and a bit rice which personally don’t think it’s worth double the price so would recommend to order a different main dish and add a side of karage. All the toasts looked soo good and the curry smell was killing too. Definitely would be back to try out other dishes!!

Comment: Came here on a Saturday around 1 pm and waited about 20 minutes before we got seated. We just walked around Essex market in the mean time.Service: felt very accommodated when we were being seated but not too attentive onwards so we would have to get attention on ordering, water refills and check, etc. but since the place is small, it wasn’t a negative experience to find the server or anything.Food for 2: we each got a drink (the coffee jelly was so good!), two pastas and the berry and cream cheese toast! I wish the toast didn’t come until we ate the savory but I understand that they’re probably just trying to turn the tables.Overall, it was a cute spot! I think next time I come, I will order take out instead and try other items. I would come here for the matcha and coffee jelly again for sure though!

Comment: I pass by this place sometimes on the way to work and finally went in real quick to grab a matcha latte. This spot is very small and super cute! And it smells incredible, like Japanese curry and mentaiko sauce, etc. I can’t wait to go back and try some food items from there! As for the latte I got, I didnt take a pic but the color was nice and fairly vibrant. They had a good selection of milk alternatives, O went with oat as usual. I didn’t expect it to be sweetened already, but it was, thankfully it wasn’t overly sweet. They also blended it well, no lumps of matcha! I don’t remember picking any particularly nuanced flavors from the matcha but it also didn’t taste powdery, or overly bitter. Would definitely drink again considering the price is about the same compared to most other places.Definitely recommend this place! And again, can’t wait to try some food from here

Comment: Was really looking forward to trying this cute spot. The toasts are not worth the price in my opinion, order them for the look, but for $12 it’s easy to replicate home. I would suggest to stick to the mains like curry and other Japanese specialties. Delicious roasted matcha latte 👌🏻 Gets very busy, arrive early on the weekends but the kitchen is well managed and you will get you plates quickly.

Comment: Quality of food is like going to Japan. Very limited seating and very small place so please be patient, there is a wait. The toast makes me actually want to buy one of those crazy expensive toasters. The lemon honey toast was light fluffy with perfect crunchy exterior, reminiscent of lemon pound cake but less sweet and more airy. The thin slices of lemon baked on top were actually easy to eat and not bitter at all. Paired perfectly with the samurai mojito, which was generous on the sake. The lemon in the drink and toast made for great balance to the uni pasta. Creamy with lots of umami and the al dente pasta was definitely handmade. My partner got chicken katsu curry. I was impressed by the curry sauce, tasted house made and slow cooked. Great flavor development, can taste the caramelized onions, and none of the sweeteness associated with the instant cubes of curry. The chicken katsu itself had beautiful crunch but was a touch dry. Next time I would get just the curry with fried vegetable instead.Only downside was the barstools were very painful, made my legs go numb. Would recommend putting a sweater on the seat for some cushion. Or better yet get take away and eat at the lovely Dorothy Strelsin Memorial Park one block away. Its a tiny green line between buildings on Google maps. Theres multiple picnic tables in the back of the park.

Comment: **long anecdotal review incoming**Its easy to walk by & miss it as its so unassuming from the outside, but then you step in and instantly feel like youre on an episode of Terrace House lol. Davelle is an aesthetic hole-in-the-wall Japanese cafe/restaurant in LES.I came here for the first time 4 years ago: I was on a first date for dinner, and we were seated at the fireplace mantle (yes, that was our table) Shockingly, the space was actually adequate for the plates we had! It ended up being such a unique dining experience, I knew I had to come back.No matter what you order, itll always hit that warm comfort food spot. (Get the curry with karaage, trust me!) Service is always very friendly & attentive, portion sizes are just right, and flavor is just perfect. & if youre not hungry enough to have that, they have a variety of cute af toasts 🍞 that pair perfectly with the tea lattes🍵. Expect a wait on weekends as its a small space & seats fill up quickly. They dont take resys.Since reopening post-pandemic they reduced their hours & closed at 5pm daily, but it seems dinner service is back again!!

Comment: Cute intimate cafe with some very creative dishes. We had the azuki latte (Red bean), black sesame toast, ogura toast, mentai spaghetti, and hojicha latte. I wish the red bean toast and latte would have stronger red bean taste. The red bean latte was a bit too sweet for me. The two toasts (red bean and black sesame) at least were not too sweetened and the texture was lovely with a crispy and soft bite. The mentai spaghetti was full of favor and the noodles had a nice bite (like a quality ramen). They diligently checked for vaccination status.

You can get standard drinks like coffee and latte, or the specials like matcha latte and black sesame latte. The matcha latte is one of the best I’ve ever had. Also really enjoyed the ice coffee with the coffee jelly! Don’t let the simplicity of the toasts deceive you. I wasn’t sure if the ham and egg was interesting enough to try, but I was blown away by how good it was. The flavors range from sweet to savory. I recommend in trying all of them. Comment: Very unique, cute cafe with terrific food and hot drinks. I really enjoyed the katsu curry--very flavorful and had much more texture than your typical boxed Japanese curry. Toast was a lot of fun too, the slices of milk bread were huge! Would highly recommend for a brunch or snack to-go.

Comment: Davelle is a dream. The homemade toasts are like a cloud with delicious fresh toppings and the curry is hands-down the best I’ve ever had. Pair with a specialty drink or fresh brewed tea to make your soul feel all the feels. Go here, and tip well!

Comment: First off, its such a comforting departure from the prototypical loud, busy NYC restaurant. Patrons seem interested in tasting as they talk in relatively hushed tones in an intimate space.Service is also polite and informative. The food is savory Japanese fusion. Nice spices and texture.Thin shell shrimp, Yuzu edamame, and fried chicken are great appetizers.Entrees that popped include Curry with fried chicken, spicy cod caviar spaghetti, and Uni tomato spaghetti. The Ginjos, including the one from Brooklyn, are outstanding.

Comment: Cozy little Japanese restaurant in LES. Spicy cod roe pasta, mentaiko pasta, was great. Toasts were good, but not surprising. Food portions are kinda small; we ordered two main dishes and two toasts for two of us.

Comment: Such a cute little place in LES. Everyone who works there is super chill and friendly. Even though the place is small it’s really warm and comfortable in there. The tobiko spaghetti was the best I’ve ever had. The food overall was delicious. The oden was dope. Good sake too but it’s pricey so ask how much first lol

Comment: Stopped in for a midweek lunch at this cozy all day cafe. Someone clacking away at their laptop in the window, another man dining alone, a few people coming in and out for coffee or lunch to go.Had some chicken katsu don which was fresh and delicious, a perfect little lunch. My friend and I had coffees which were great, and the one employee taking orders was friendly, genuine, and warm.

Comment: Was lured in by the photogenic toasts I saw on Instagram. A friend and I shared the berry & cream cheese and the red bean toasts. The berry & cream cheese one was good, but it wasnt too exciting, and I felt like I could make my own version at home pretty easily. The red bean toast was SO GOOD though.

Comment: Food here was so good! Japanese comfort food- chicken katsu curry, shishito peppers, unigiri, uni spaghetti (so good!), and more. The weakest was the ice cream in the affogato which was mealy. The counter seats were a little uncomfortable but overall decor was homey and the waitstaff was super friendly. I would want to come back to try their toasts but maybe at a table instead...

Comment: Atmosphere: Welcoming and home-like. Intimate. Great spot for a date!Space: Small but clean. Its nice not to have serious crowds aroundStaff: Extremely attentive. Friendly. Pays attention to details.Cocktails: ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUSPrice: $$Overall: The space is small so I wouldnt recommend for large crowds but its great for a small intimate setting. The staff takes pride into the food and drinks they create and it shows. If your looking for a nice calm night after work, or a break from a Friday, this is the spot. Prices are decent as well. I definitely recommend this spot

Comment: (4.5) Great little joint that serves some Japanese-Italian dishes. Got the unigiri & spicy cod caviar spaghetti. I enjoyed both dishes, but I felt the unigiri didnt have enough uni in it.The pasta had a high price tag for the portion but overall it was a good plate of pasta. A hidden gem tucked away in the LES, would come back to try other items.

Comment: Quaint little place with fine, light, hearty toasts. Really recommend the curry bread and the matcha avocado tofu smoothie. Only downside is that for the portion its a little on the expensive side.

Comment: This hidden gem in the lower east side is a charming little Japanese cafe. It probably sits about 10-15 people comfortably. I came here with two friend and we luckily got a seat at the gold countertop. I ordered the black sesame latte, chicken katsu curry, and the berry and cream cheese toast. Yes, it was a decent amount of food for one person but I was hungry! The black sesame was surprisingly packed with that nutty black sesame flavor and was delicious iced. Fun fact: They made it in a magic bullet! The chicken in the chicken katsu curry perfectly crispy and he curry tasted like the typical Japanese curry. The only downside is that the portion was pretty small for $20.My friend ordered the spicy cod caviar pasta and I tried and bite and it was SO GOOD. I’ll probably order it next time.Last but not least, I ordered the berry and cream cheese toast. And to be honest, I ordered it because it was pretty :)

Comment: This Japanese cafe is perfect for lowkey meetups with friends, day or night. I’m partial to breakfast with their fabulous coffee, toasts, and omurice—but dinner was tasty too. Another plus: the very knowledgeable bartender helped me figure out what sake would go best with my Japanese curry, and explained all about how the restaurant picks its sake brands. So interesting! It’s a *little* on the pricier side, but still well worth a visit.

Comment: Amazing experience at Davelle! The mentaiko toast was perfectly savory and the buttered toast balanced the saltiness of the mentaiko. The uni pasta was also delicious; decent portion of uni and the noodles were nice, soft and chewy like instant ramen noodles texture. The chicken katsu with egg was also cooked very nicely. I also got a matcha latte, one of the better oat matcha lattes I’ve had in the city for sure!

Comment: Davelle is a delightful all day no tipping Japanese cafe that offers tea, coffee, breakfast toasts, oden, as well as lunch and dinner. The menu, at least the choice of entrees is small but I find that this ends up working well. We had the karagee and the pork curry, both were good but the curry was especially flavorful. Both dishes came with a pint sized soup and salad. The place itself is stylishly decorated, has lots of light making it warm and cozy and very much feels like an oasis.

Comment: I love this place. Great atmosphere, the perfect quiet spot to read a book on a lazy afternoon. Small, rustic, but seemingly lively. AND a really interesting menu, both for breakfast items and otherwise. Everything I’ve tried has been great. AND some of the smoothest, least acidic cold brew i have had in all of LES / East Village. I’m not writing a screenplay, but if i was, i would do it at Davelle. It’s now occurred to me how hipster this review has become. Just trust me: you’ll like it here.

Comment: Even if this place is no tipping, I still left a tip because the service, atmosphere and food were all incredibly delightful. I ordered the Sugar Butter toast and a plain pour over coffee for breakfast this morning. I was pleasantly surprised, and honestly almost moved to tears due to how delicious the meal was! I am not kidding! I felt my eyes well up. The fluffy milk bread was perfectly toasted and had a light and sweet coating of sugar, providing a crispy crunch with each bite. The potato salad was out of this world. Seriously underrated. Hands down-probably the best potato salad I have ever tried. The coffee was not too hot and not too cold, it was served to me at the perfect temperature which I appreciated. Sometimes you go to places and they serve you piping hot coffee and you have to wait at least 15 minutes before you can take a sip without burning yourself. The server was so very kind and accommodating. I dont know his name but he was wearing a green beanie and a grey sweatshirt, he was an absolute sweetie. The place itself is quaint but so relaxing. I got there first thing in the morning so it was empty. They played classical music as I enjoyed my breakfast which was perfect background music for this delightful experience. As I left I was thanked by another worker who was a woman and both her and the male server said a kind goodbye to me as I left with my belly full of this delicious food. I have literally never felt more compelled to get online and write a good review in my life. This was truly a wonderful time I had at Davelle and I will be sure to return on my next trip to New York. Perfect start to my day. If I could rate it 100 stars I would!

Comment: Amazing chicken karaage. Its seriously, quite possibly the best Ive had to date. I havent tried the other dishes but Im sure theyre fantastic as well. They also has a good selection of coffee drinks. That being said I still have to ding one star because for the price, I feel I was a little shorted on the amount of chicken I got. I only got 5 fairly small pieces, by the time I finished the chicken I still had plenty of rice left over; definetly feel they could have added a couple more pieces.Overall though I did enjoy my experience and though I cant afford to go too often, I will definetly be back.
