For $45 I got to taste a great Salmon and Avocado appetizer, 9 different chef select sashimi varieties, two choice hand rolls from the menu, and a lovely Matcha ice cream with a sweet red bean paste.I especially enjoyed the variety of subtle flavors with the fish sampler, there was a citrus element that i truly enjoyed with one of the lighter fish.My favorite element of the hand roll menu was the Oyster mushroom Seaweed crunch with Chili flakes and Truffle oil. The flavor of the mushroom was excellent with the crunch of this seaweed shell!The staff was friendly and helpful, our waitress advised a great light beer pairing for our meal (the Orion) and a Sake to pair with dessert (Yamahucchi, Dassai 39)

Each of the pieces was very experimental in terms of flavor; some of the most unique flavor combinations I’ve ever had in Japanese cuisine. The fish was fresh and had really good texture, but I didn’t get that much flavor from the fish— I felt like the fish was more mellow than normal, and it was overshadowed by the flavors they added to the sushi. But overall, it was quite enjoyable and for a good price! The ambience and service is also wonderful :)

We arrive 20 minutes earlier and we were able to be sited early at the counter. This is another restaurant we saw recommended at the Michelin guide.Food was incredible: we tried the “small” sushi menu (at $49/person) which consisted on a Salmon tataki, 9 pieces of sushi and 2 sushi rolls. At the beginning I thought we were going to finish hungry give the word “small” on the menu but it was more than ok (and I eat a lot!).Salmon tataki was good but not great, but you could tell how fresh the fish was. Loved that it was slightly grilled on the top.I loved the sushi selection: 9 different pieces of salmon, tuna, yellowfish, among other fishes combined with different sauces which harmoniously enhanced the flavor. The best sushi I had.Sushi rolls were also amazing (perhaps the highlight of the menu). I had the oyster mushroom roll and the spicy tuna one. Both were very crispy on the outside with an amazing combination of flavors, however the one that my wife order (unagui) was the absolute best.At the end we order the matcha pudding which was actually pretty good. Not too bitter and not to sweet – very well balanced.Service was fast (perhaps way too fast) and attentive.Atmosphere was very Japanese inspired of course. What was a bit of a disappointment was that we sited at the counter, and we expected that the cooking was going to be happening there but there was only one guy cutting the fishes.

Comment: Was obsessed with the restaurant, food and service in Jersey city so we wanted to see if it’s the same in the city. The nigiri as always were top notch. My husband got 3 hand rolls this time and was very pleasant by how big they are and how good they were. We keep seeing the yellow drink pass us by and ordered it ourselves and didn’t disappoint. The drink was peach lychee, a frozen cocktail with peach, lychee and soju. Very refreshing and great value for the alcohol and taste. I also ordered the hot udon with washi beef, broth was so savory and the beef were sliced thinly and very tender. I do want to warn people that there was something in the dish that made it spicy so make sure to ask your waiter if you don’t line or can’t handle spice. The food came very fast that it might not have been more than 15 minutes. We also had the black sesame panna cotta, not too sweet but very tasty.

I also ordered some oysters to start and split three hot dishes with my girlfriend. I will say the eyes were bigger than the stomach and this was a LOT of food. We had leftovers and I was not mad about it. The cabbage salad with black sesame dressing is incredible. So was the salmon sashimi. The sushi was unbelievably fresh and delicious and so were the hand rolls. I’m convinced there’s nothing in this menu that is bad. The Katsu sando was a standout on the hot dish menu. This crispy and unique sandwich was like nothing I’ve ever had before. The udon and the scallop risotto were both chefs kiss!! I can’t wait to come back.

We took a really long time deciding on what to order but we were never rushed to place an order. The food was AMAZING, with a very fair price point. The hand rolls were good but not mind blowing - the seaweed got a bit soggy and one of them fell apart :( i actually preferred the mushroom hand roll over the yellowtail and negi toro hand rolls. The food also came out fairly quick (which I love ;))The hot udon was by far my favorite in terms of flavor & execution. The scallop risotto was delicious but the texture of the rice was just a little off for my liking.The shrimp dumplings had a great flavor - just a tad sweet. They hand Rolls are so much better than traditional rolls, a perfect balance on the size, taste and not too heavy on the rice with a unique flavor combinations. I also really liked their salmon tartare, probably one of the best I ever tried. Also their umi pasta absinthe banger! As well as fried rice with pork and fried cauliflower. The food was nearly all excellent and the service was very fast and the presentation was pretty and the pricing was also not as bad as we’d have expected for the amazing quality. We ordered way more than probably was necessary (4 hot mains, 3 orders of nigiri, 4 hand rolls and 6 oysters) and were quite full. We all but finished everything but we both eat a lot in general. The oysters were so fresh. The squid ink pasta was probably the least exciting - though the yuzu fish roe was a very interesting touch. True to our server’s words, the spicy shrimp dumpling were incredible. They were so interesting with a citrusy chili oil broth. I could drink the broth. The hand rolls were not shaped traditionally and instead were in the shape of a taco. I don’t love this construction because it is easier for one end to squeeze out as you take bites, but the taste was good. The fatty tuna one was the least enjoyable. All in all, we were very satisfied and would 100% recommend to others looking for an upscale but not ridiculous sushi spot!

We ordered the domakase from the menu with a good price of $97, my favorite would be the oyster its a nice combination with the ikura and the yuzu foam its very freshening in the mouth also the tuna cone was good as well with the spicy Mayo and truffle seasoning, the plating was beautifully made and we probably got a trained server but he explained every dish very well . The black miso cod is a must its very soft and sweet they were good on combining the cherry tomatoes so its not too sweet . Comment: Ive eaten at a bunch of temaki sushi restaurants in New York, and Domodomo stands out with their value for money hand roll sets as well as for offering a wider menu of mains to diversify your orders.But first things first - the hand roll sets are really great quality and value, either $29 for 5 or $24 for 4 rolls, with the ability to upgrade for any of the premium rolls. In my case, I upgraded one roll to the miso cod, which was an excellent choice! For the other 4, I got the negi toro, yellowtail, salmon and spicy tuna, all of which were very fresh and flavorful. The spicy tuna was very spicy though so just a warning for those whose tolerance is lower.We decided to order a main, the garlic bacon fried rice with onsen egg, which was super umami and savory, and had that fried bacon smell that makes your mouth water. We finished off with the black sesame panna cotta, which was a great and light finish to the meal. We also had two cocktails, the sparkling sake with yuzu omoi and watermelon cooler, which were good flavor complements for our meals.Well be back here again to try out more hand rolls and mains!

Comment: The food tastes really good, especially the sushi with reasonable price. During COVID, they also have outdoor seating with roof. It’s nice to seat outside in a sunny day. Also came here for dinner, seating in the bar. The raw bar platter are great, including oyster/littleneck/shrimp/lobster (lobster is so-so). I’d recommend here for the lunch and dinner.

Comment: Domodomo is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in the city. For what you’re paying, ($85-$95 Domokase) I haven’t found another spot that compares in terms of freshness and flavors of the food. The Domokase allows you to try all that this restaurant has to offer (an app, small plates, sushi and dessert). The atmosphere is intimate yet inviting. Whenever there is a special occasion this is my go to recommendation. You will definitely leave feeling full and happy!

Comment: Amazing.Due to COVID-19, outdoor dining was the only option for our date night. However, it was very good.Amazing food with the Manhattan street vibe was quite good.Only downside would be, just any other restaurant would go through as well, since it is outdoor dining experience, people will be walking around, passing by your table, sometimes with a cigarette on their hands.

Comment: We went to the raw bar as the actual place on the left had a 2+ hours waiting line. The raw bar basically had the exact same stuff without some sushi and we didn’t even have to wait. With happy hour prices too!I have to admit, the bacon fried rice was phenomenal - the egg made it even better. We devoured it. The cod was great too, but tasted just like how cod is made at any other good restaurant with miso cod dish. What you would expect. The unagi roll was tasty, a bit smoky and also within expectations. The crab roll didn’t really taste like anything, so that was the only meh in this great experience.

Comment: Domokase was worth every penny+tip. My favorite before Domodomo was (well still is) 15 East. 15 East serves better traditional sushi for my tongue; how 15 East handles its fish is amazing. However, Domodomo shows great effort on improving traditional sushi with modern style, and did an excellent job that the whole course felt more complete as a whole with more variety of taste. Im not choosing one over another. Im just happier with more options for dinner now.Their dish/service deserve 5 star, but their toilet smelled too much like urine. Yes im nit-picking because the food was so satisfying.

Outside of the rolls, I strongly recommend the black cod, either as a dish or as a roll.A must go-to in the city !!Perfect for a chic date, a nice dinner with a friend, a family gathering or just to treat yourself for lunch :)Not cheap but reasonably priced

Comment: Stopped by this location to give their sushi course a try! Noticed that they received a Bib Gourmand award from the Michelin guide which indicates this location as a good place for quality food for a good price which is something I can definitely agree on.The place has quite the modern feel with a few different rooms; the sushi bar having its own seating area where 2 sushi chefs are surrounded by dining patrons.Because we werent too hungry we opted for the sushi course which was a very reasonable $55 (not including tip!) which came with a starter, 12 pieces of sushi, 1 hand roll and a dessert option.The pieces of sushi were quite tasty though on the cold side when compared to the rice. I do wish they let the fish come up to room temperature before serving for a better tasting experience. I opted for the unagi hand roll which was quite good though my girlfriend didnt fancy the yellow tuna handroll she chose (it was mashed together and the temperature indicated it was just taken out of the refrigerator).I would definitely recommend this place for a first time experience into the omakase world as the sushi quality is high and it wont destroy your wallet. However, there are higher tiers of omakase out there (which is reflected in the price) that will definitely await you once you give this place a go!Service was prompt and polite.
