Comment: This place was soooo good. My brother and I had wanted to go here for a while and finally had the opportunity to on his birthday with a group of his friends. Jack took really good care of our table and was super kind and accommodating throughout the dinner. We all ordered different dishes, but in my opinion the Sizzling Bulalo Steak and the Soft Shell Crab Palabok are their hits. The Manila Mule was also really good. Would definitely come back again

Comment: Boodle Fight round 1! One of the few Filipino restaurants offering this Kamayan style dining experience. Placed on a bed of banana leaves, our mouth watered as more and more dishes are piled on, rice, pork skin, beef, shoulder roast, fried fish, bone marrow and more.The restaurant also offers a variety of stand alone dining options including a good selections of skewer and same torched bone marrow.

Comment: I meet this lovely lady in Newyork who is Filipino she brought me here for dinner. This was an amazing experience.the food was kind blowing.We shared the sampler platter. This was super tasty. It was well balanced with sweet and spicy. I loved the beer because it was the spiciest one. When I say spicy it was not to hot to handle I would say mild spice. I loved the pork ball one, we also asked for some vinegar it’s a special Filipino one. It really brings it all together.we also had Kani Salad it was well balanced it’s Japanese inspired taste balance of sesame oil, a little chilli and maybe some vinegar however it was balanced and so tasty. We also had Pork Harumaki this are a must try.For the mains we shared Bonito Caesar Salad,We also had Sizzling Bulalo Steak I would say this is very French, it’s very heave. How ever the beef is so tender. I liked it. The highlight for me was hands down Gugu Express. The flavours where so balanced could feel the fish sauce, you could taste to coconut. And the spices they used. This wasn’t as spicy as I thought it might have been. However in hotness I Would say it’s mild to medium. The food was just to die for. get behind this restaurant. It’s amazing we also had happy hour cocktails. My friend had this coconut milk cocktails it would make the best dessert cocktails. It’s not on happy hour though :-)

Comment: This is a restaurant where you can enjoy Filipino and Japanese cuisine. The interior has a calm atmosphere, and we also recommend stylish cocktails made with Japanese alcoholic beverages. Yuzu gimlet is the best! The owner seems to be from the Philippines. The staff at the store are also friendly! This is a store I would definitely like to visit again.

Comment: Oh boy, what a pleasant surprise at how delicious the food was! We got the two beef and bone marrow combo, and they were both explosive in terms of flavors! My favorite was definitely the beef with edamame and sauce, for the meat literally melted off the bone and blended richly with the accompanying sauce! The other bone marrow dish was good too but so incredibly salty that without rice to balance it, you probably wouldnt be able to stomach much of it. We also got the corn which was definitely underwhelming and was not worth its high price tag. The shrimp taco was delicious, but so incredibly small unfortunately.The servers were friendly and the ambiance was warm but at the darker/dimmer side. We also didnt try their desserts for they ran out of the halo halo, so perhaps next time!Overall, we had a pleasant time and there are still many dishes we would like to try! Definitely give the beef bone marrow edamame dish a try, I promise you wont regret it!Thank you for reading and good luck! (:

Comment: Fantastic place that’s authentic and refreshing at the same time. Great homage to the culture with elevated Filipino and fusion dishes. The elote sisig may be simple but it’s comforting. Their grilled dishes are also delicious especially the tuna collar.Loved the yuzu gimlet too. I’d go back over and over for the vibes alone. The interior with homage to Filipino national hero, Jose Rizal and some colonial accents without being too on the nose. The red lighting created an intimate space plus the DJ set was on point.

Comment: We ordered the kare-kare, cod sisig, laing and short rib udon. Laing and cod sisig were pretty good but the short rib just wasn’t tender and a bit tough which is a shame…it’s short rib. Shouldn’t that be an easy win? The food also came out within 10-12 min of ordering which means this was all cooked well ahead of time. We’re rooting for this place for more Filipino representation and hope this is seen as constructive feedback_______________________We decided to run it back about 7 months after our first visit. Glad we did it! This time we focused our meal on the skewers and the kare-kare short rib. The skewer platter was very good (all of them) but it was the kare kare stole the show w such tender short rib melting w the slightest touch of the fork. Traditionalists would vouch for ox tail but we ain’t mad at the buttery short rib. The shrimp paste (bagoong) is a must and they had just the right amount w/o overpowering the dish. The only downside was the party had to end at some point…

Comment: Kitchen closed at 10p on Friday night, so keep that in mind if youre coming for food and drinks. Luckily, I arrived at 9p and was able to put my orders in before last call in the kitchen. We didnt have reservations and it was crowded, but they quickly made a table ready.Server immediately came over to explain the menu and their izakaya fusion between Filipino and Japanese cuisines. This same fusion carried over to the specialty cocktails too. The izakaya style was perfect as there were so many dishes I wanted to try. Ordered everything from the Gugu Express, Hamachi Kama, Karaage Congee, Skewers, Truffle Mushroom, etc... In traditional izakaya style, food comes out as its ready so youre constantly receiving plates over drinks and conversation.Food was amazing. It was a true fusion and each dish had a nice mix of Filipino and Japanese cuisines that went perfectly together. Neither cuisine dominated the other and was very unique. Will definitely come back when in New York City for both the food and service.

Aside from meat, they offer a lot of seafood options too.If you want a refreshing appetizer, go for the Kani Salad—the dressing makes it taste so good. It’s way better than the usual kani salads that you’d get at other restaurants.Super recommend the rock shrimp tempura too! crispy and fresh and delicious!! love the aioli used here, it’s *chefs kiss*.I had their Miso Cod as my main, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I’d recommend getting rice with it cos the sauce is reaally good. 10/10 would order it again!!If you’re a cocktail person, then you’d love the drinks here! If you’re into sour drinks, get the Gugu Midori Sour! They use calamansi juice to give it that tart taste. If you want something refreshing and light, go for the Rizal Highball. If you’re into sweet, light cocktails, go for the Black Samurai—it has black sesame syrup in it!I’d definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for a spot in NY with quick, fuss-free bites, and some cocktails to pair with it. Date night worthy? Yes. Going out as a big group? Yes you can, they have tables. Going alone? Yeah that’s perf, you can just sit by the bar and have a conversation with their super friendly bartenders! Or just wait for someone cute to sit next to you (lol). The servers/staff are super accommodating here!Music’s good here as well! On weekends, this place turns into a cool spot for dancing/partying. It’s one of those intimate resto bars in the city where you can mingle with the crowd.

Comment: This place made me like grilled isaw. I never had a good experience with isaw since it never had a texture I liked, but somehow this place made grilled isaw melt in your mouth. I could not believe it was isaw. I also tried their mushroom sisig which definitely satisfied the mushroom lover in me it was so good. I also had the bangus belly which was nice and crispy. The rice it came with was also so good. I ate during brunch so they also served complimentary mimosas. I will definitely come again to try their dinner menu next time!

Comment: We went on a Friday last month and the place was packed! We chose to sit at the outdoor seating & pleasantly enjoyed the experience. Food was A++++ We had some Spicy Kani Salad, so refreshing and perfect for the summer, Kare Kare, literally melt-in-your-mouth goodness with every spoonful of rice, and balut! Everything was flavorful and service was outstanding! Shoutout to all the staff working at this restaurant, they all look like they love working there, very attentive & friendly- all of them! Comment: Gugu Room has Michelin star level of food and service. We ordered the ribeye Kushiyaki, rock shrimp tempura, short rib kare kare, and spicy tori curry and each dish was phenomenal. The attention to detail, the layered flavors and textures of each plate, the music, everything about this place is intentional and exactly right. Amanda and Aris run an incredible team who were warm and accommodating, turning a meal into a memorable celebration. I’m coming back for balut, the karashi bagnet (crispy pork belly), and the beef bone marrow.

Comment: Great experience at GuGu room tonight. Table of 6 shared most items on the menu.Started off with awesome cocktails. Appetizers were all good especially the tide with pork belly, juicy chicken karage and adobo wings.Skewers all tasty especially the longanisa.We shared four mains that all were super rich in taste. Table favorites were the short rib udon with bone marrow and the beef tongue and mushrooms in a cream sauce.Definitely will be back. Note the chefs table is in the back and tucked away. Not out front in the action which is what we wanted. Other diners may hate it.Good service and great vibes the entire night.
