Comment: The mabo tofu here is great, they use real Sichuan peppercorns, so you get the numbing mouth feel, and very, very slow heat.Service was excellent, never ran out of water, and was cared for by the staff.Come for lunch, it was a pretty quiet and relaxing atmosphere!

Comment: Fast, simple and delicious. What more is there to wish for? Staff were incredibly friendly and the cold shaken ramen left mě actually shaken. And on top of the, paying $55 in midtown for two is nothing to be frowned upon

Comment: Came here for the brunch and ordered the brunch sampler to try a verify of food. It was good in general but the quality of the fish was not sashimi level. It’s worth the hype and the fun to order but if you expect the high quality Japanese food, you can skip this. Recommend the sesame flavor ice cream. :)

Comment: Made a resy for a friday lunch! was hoping we would be able to try their actual menu items but unfortunately they were only serving their combo menu with the collab they were doing. the set combo was pretty decent only for $30 - ramen, chicken, mapo tofu w rice. but you can’t make any adjustments to it, which was unfortunate for me since i can’t handle spice as well! however, the experience was great nevertheless :).

Comment: They have a larger area compared to their previous location so its very easy to reserve seats here. The staff are really nice too and will gladly assist you to everything. In terms of the taste, my friend from Fukuoka approved of this place! Very authentic and pricing is standard of Midtown rates. Theyre having a lunch pop-up collab right now until Dec 29th so come try their teishoku. For the dinner menu, I highly suggest the Motsunabe and Mentai fried rice.

Comment: Came here for lunch on a weekend. Theres no wait and no reservation needed. The nabe here is pretty standard - I personally dont find it special but its still a good nabe. The appetizers were ok - also not bad but nothing special. The dessert platter tho - was unexpectedly good. It was pretty worth it for the price and everything tasted pretty good. Same price at any cafe in ktown would cost you double and might not even taste as good.

Comment: Its my third time here and I would keep coming back here for how delicious the food tasted. This time we ordered the signature hotpot, the okonomiyaki, and the shrimp chili (which was tomato, egg, and shrimp). The shrimp chili was hands down the best item weve had here. Those three dishes were enough for us party of two. Its price point is a little on the higher end but I highly recommend it!

Comment: The weather has gotten colder and we would like to have something warm so we visited Hakata Ton Ton again for their Motsu Hot Pot.We got their Ebi Mayo as appetizer and it wasn’t our type but looked good. We love their Pork Trotter so much but the portion was kind of small. Their classic Motsu Hot Pot is extremely delicious & satisfying in cold weather.

Comment: Food was good but definitely much left to be desired. Went there for brunch and ordered the yum cha platter and the hot pot with white broth. Few standouts from the platter included the scallop, tonkatsu bun and the sashimi. While the broth for the hot pot was good, felt like it was bulked up with a mound of chives and cabbage. I should note that theres an option to add noodles + other toppings to the hot pot. Friendly + attentive service and a well stocked up restrooms (x3) with hand lotion, mouthwash, floss and hair ties!

Comment: Really, really good motsu. It made me enjoy intestines! It was like eating the yummy fat off a T-bone steak. The pieces were small so easily chewed and swallowed. The flavor of the broth was great and the fatiness remained on my lips. I also really liked the liver sashimi- very fresh and mild taste balanced with that amazing sesame dip. And the matcha cocktail was fantastic - not too strong and the matcha flavor was balanced well by the ginger.

Comment: The service felt disorganized and lacking, but was friendly and courteous. We interacted with a different waiter almost everytime we needed assistance. We were given an incorrect order and it was then taken away and given to the table next to us, not sure how comfortable they were to eat it. Nonetheless, the food was delicious. Highly recommend the hotpot, ebi may, and mentai fried rice. Do NOT pass on the almond tofu pudding made by the chef’s wife.

Comment: For a delicious Japanese hotpot this is the spot. The food wad great. The Japanese hotpot was something I haven’t had in this style which was unique and enjoyable, even this time of year with the AC blasting in the restaurant. The chicken was super juicy and the mentai fried rice is a must try. The desserts were divine. My personal favorites were the cheese cake, pudding, and roast Goma ice cream. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Attentive to your needs. The bathroom had a nice selection of mouth wash, hair bands, feminine products, q-tips if needed which was a nice touch.Pro tip: go with in a group of 3-6 to be able to try more items on the menu.

Comment: A spacious authentic Japanese restaurant with beautiful food presentation and wonderful service. The Yum Cha Set was big with a good assortment of small fresh dishes. My personal favs were the Sui Gyoza, a flavorful dumpling broth served in a teacup, and the Kani Harumaki, it’s similar to a taco with crab meat and glass noodles.Genmai-cha Tea was excellently roasted and went well with the meal, they refilled the tea jar for us too!The Tonton Dessert Platter was a delight. Got to sample all their desserts, fell in love with the black sesame ice cream, so nutty, so good. The rest were amazing too! The green tea almond tofu was the only exception, it was such a weird combo. My friend wasn’t into it either so maybe it’s an acquired taste lol. It was aesthetic though as the matcha drizzled on top of the tofu. What better way way to end a stressful week than a delicious Sunday lunch on a beautiful sunny day. Both the sets we ordered were creative and exquisite. There was not a single person in that restaurant who wasn’t snapping pics 😂 It is expensive, but the food is of high-quality AND tasty. The staff were soooo sweet too! They greeted us in Japanese 🥹 Definitely a place worth revisiting, maybe next time we’ll try their famous hotpot!

Comment: The flavors are just as great as the exquisite presentation! You get to try so many cute little dishes in this brunch set and I liked every single dish! The pork belly bun is my personal fav among all. The dessert matcha tofu is phenomenonal, very tender and delicate and not overly sweet. The appetizer grilled pork feet is so tender and flavorful and it fell apart in your mouth! The only discordance was that the lady who served us was impatient and gave us a weird hostile attitude when we asked about the menu. But Ill definitely come back for the food.

Comment: Walked in without a reservation and was seated right away (probably right before the dinner rush!). Hakata TonTon offers a wide variety of food that are seasoned perfectly. The uni-scallop skewers were fluffy with just the right amount of kick from the wasabi, the fried rice was heavenly without being oily, and the ebi chili was more on the sweeter end from the shrimp but the omelet beneath it was cooked perfectly, being a perfect balance of fluffy and silky. Highly recommend anything on the menu, but also recommend the amenities offered via restroom! Go to find out!

Comment: The food was great! The hotpot looked big for two people so we ordered 3 different meals and loved mapo tofu and pork fried rice. I felt the menu seemed more of Chinese inspired than Japanese but overall everything was great.I am taking one star out because the host told us to leave at the end of meal while waiting for our credit cards and receipts.(We didn’t stay too long just about an hour). I am always okay with leaving early for the next guests and I understand this is a popular restaurant. So we told him “okay, we will leave. We are just waiting for our cards and receipts.” But the host(or hall manager I dunno) kept making this 🙏gesture to us as if we should leave right now. We were confused (I mean we can only leave with our cards back). And then the server came back to us with our cards and receipts, and the host had this look “Oh…” and then left looking embarrassed, not saying sorry or anything. I guess he was thinking we were refusing to leave. 😅 We signed the receipts and left right away. And he didn’t make an eye contact with us at all on the way out. I am not sure what that was really about, but that definitely made us feel odd after all the good experience. People make mistakes and I understand this is a popular restaurant, but I hope the host(or hall manager because he looked superior than servers) have listened to customers first before making assumptions or judgement. I will definitely visit again though!

Comment: Great place! Will revisit. Prompt service, tasty dishes, sushi grade fish - so expect small portions. We ordered Kintaro Shochu on the rocks $10 (Barely based clear distilled alcohol), Goma Hamachi (baby yellowtail in mustard sauce), Yakiniku wrap (barbeque washu beef in scallion pancakes, pickled veggies, mayo), Tonton fried rice, bloomed tomato $7 (peeled tomato with pickled veggies), pepper chicken wings, and Roasted Goma ice cream (sesame flavor) for dessert. You will need two dishes per person to be full. Each dish was about $10-15 unless otherwise noted. I especially liked Shochu, Goma Hamachi, and sesame ice cream. The table had limited seating time. Paid $ 87 plus tip for two people - which is in average range. Another option is to order a platter of $75 for two people, which comes with 4 teas.

Sashimi was super fresh and tasty, my friend actually said it was even better than an omakase he went to. Didnt even get a chance to snap a picture. The citrus salmon, wasabi kanpachi and pork skewers are great too. The ton ton fried rice and katsu sandwich were just ok, I would skip. They put a unique twist to their food and drinks. Ordered quite a lot of food and everything came out very fresh and nicely seasons. Dont forget to order the desserts and cocktails. They had such a unique twist to them. Definitely will come back to try the rest of the menu

Comment: Two Sundays ago, I woke up at 2 am, scrolled through TikTok, and stumbled upon a fun Japanese restaurant in NYC called Hakata Tonton. They offer an intriguing Yum Cha platter during their brunch service. Yum Cha, which means drink tea in Cantonese, is a common phrase referring to the Cantonese tradition of enjoying brunch and tea. I felt inspired and decided to fly to NYC to try it out (thanks to my mileage award tickets!).I went directly from the airport to the restaurant. I ordered the platter and a hotpot to follow. I chose some genmai-cha (roasted brown rice with green tea) to accompany the platter. I began with some dumplings before diving into the platter. Though it was designed for two, I happily indulged in it by myself. The platter featured 10 different small dishes, each with two portions. Both visually appealing and delicious, I was impressed by the concept of a Yum Cha platter. My hotpot arrived shortly after I finished the platter. I opted for the motsu hotpot, which included spicy miso tonsoku broth, beef intestine, cabbage, chives, and dumpling skin. The beef intestine had the perfect chewiness, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.Afterward, I spent some time exploring and relishing my day in NYC before flying back the next day. It was an absolute blast!

Comment: Good spot for Japanese food, but the wait can get pretty long so Id suggest getting here a bit early. The small plates here a delicious! For the hot pot, you should get some udon or rice to eat it with. For the dessert, the roasted goma ice cream is my favorite.

Comment: Came here with a friend and didn’t expect it to be a hotpot place that now serves other food. The food itself is really good, I was pleased with everything I ate. The price is a bit higher since you have to get multiple items but it’s worth it in my opinion. The staff is super nice and friendly while the food comes out at a reasonable pace to have conversation with others, but it’s not too slow.

Comment: The foods are delicious. The blossomed tomato was less impressive than the picture, the gyoza was alright. We love the karage chickens and hotpot A (the one with pork belly and pork feet). Highly recommend to have it mild spicy level much better than not spicy at all. The restrooms were cleaned and stocked up. Overall the management needs to add more servers. The servers were nice, friendly and attentive but they cant handle too many customers at once

Comment: Great food, and drinks. Loved every single dish. I ordered two side of pork belly, as it was so good. The Shishito peppers and Brussel sprout were well seasoned. Really nice Foie grass. The pork feet was delicious and the hot pot was excellent, a little on the spicy side but really good. Added Ramen noodles ad the end just to enjoy the broth and the left over. The green tea ice-cream with chocolate was really good. and the Sake of course was an excellent choice for the meal.

Comment: Pork belly skewers were as good as always! The gnocchi was a pleasant surprise too. Enjoyed the food experience. This was my first time to the new location. West Village was magical, but this is a more modern take and I will have to say it still has a little bit of that charm. Just more supersized and modern.I would give this new HTT 5 stars, however the host last night was not very kind. Rude in fact on multiple occasions. It was a joint birthday for my friend and I, but he didn’t really know that or seem to care when it was addressed. Not a way to treat customers.

Comment: This new location is much more spacious than the old location, where it was almost impossible to get reservations the same week. Although I did not have a reservation, I was able to sit down and walk-in around 5:45, they did warn me that I need to free up my table by 7:30 for people with actual reservation. Service is fast, 1.5 hours would be ample to order and eat. Staff very friendly and accommodating, menu has also expanded with a lot of interesting choices, which allows for people who do not want to venture into the intestine or the trotter hotpots Must try their grilled prom trotters, I personally favor the garlic one because I’m a huge cilantro fan, but the ponzu and fashioned are also excellent choices. The new dessert menu is much better suited to western palates.

Comment: This is a very popular Japanese place. Famous for their pork feet. A lot of different varieties dishes on sashimi. As you can see it’s small plates and each plate comes with 3-4 pieces in it. They also have hot pot. Hot pot comes with couple different types of veggies with dumplings, chicken and pork feet inside. You can also add noodle or udon to the pot. Overall food is good but price is on the high side . I will come back and try again.

Comment: Such a good experience! I would definitely come back here for the dessert platter alone. The salmon and yellowtail were really good. The hotpot itself was just meh, I’ve had better else where. It was mainly just a giant pile of greens I didn’t particularly like and meat with lots of tiny bones. Now, the main star was definitely the dessert platter, full sizes of all their desserts, and all of them were so so good. It’s such a good deal and oh so filling on its own. The staff was super duper attentive maybe a bit much if you wanted some independence.

Comment: Ive visited Hakata TonTon twice, and both times I had such amazing experiences! Right off the bat, appetizers are so good and unique. I recommend ordering both sashimi and grilled appetizers. My favorite are Goma Hamachi and Kaisen Okonomiyaki, but everything I tried were sooo delicious. I tried out the Tonton Hot Pot, which was really good with spicy broth. Im not a 100% sure that this is authentic Japanese style hot pot, but still good and adding the champong noodles at the end made it such a satisfying meal! I still slightly prefer the hot pot at Kimura, but nonetheless good! The large hot pot plus two appetizers were enough food for our party of four. Our waitress was helpful in recommendations and overall super kind. I want to return to try their brunch set!!!

Comment: Nothing like a huge pot of boiling soup in front of you to keep you warm during winter! Hakata TonTon has lots of fun share-able apps and nabes that uses exciting ingredients like tonsoku and motsu 🤩 We ordered the Tonton hotpot with pork feet and belly, chicken thigh, dumplings, and various veggies. The soup was nice and spicy-ish but bc it was a tonkotsu broth, everything felt a bit too heavy (esp with fatty collagen). The three of us shared the small and it was more than enough!I liked the side dishes more than the main. Uni scallop was good with a nice charred flavor and my fav was the mental fried rice. They mix it in front of you and bc the pan is still hot you get the yummy crispy rice 😋

Comment: Had a fantastic brunch experience with the yum cha set. Presented beautifully on a large wooden tray, the set consisted of 11 dishes and a pot of tea. It had a good mix of raw and cooked dishes, and the tea and plum tomatoes worked nicely as palate cleansers in between the raw and cooked dishes. I liked the creativity exhibited on dishes like the eel canape and kani harumaki, and some of my other favorites include the mentai omelet and the kara age.Although we didn’t get to try their signature hot pot, the overall experience was very satisfying, and I highly recommend trying the yum cha set if you’re looking for an affordable omakase-style meal.

Comment: Ton ton... Interesting name for me. I think ton ton should refer to pigs due to they have so many pig decorations in the store. Piggie footprints on the wall, piggie dolls on the counter. Follow the piggies, then you get delicious cuisines made of them... Ehhhhh kind of cruel vibe now right? But thats human beings. Killing piggies for delicious cuisines but at the same time purchasing piggie dolls for their adorable looks... Weird humans...

Comment: Our party of four came in on a Friday with a 7:30 resso. I had been to their West Village location years back (which I think is also closed now) but only had the hot pot. This time, we ordered other things to try in addition to the hot pot. We kind of made up our own little tasting menu and shared all the plates. We had:Liver sashimi (Veal liver sashimi with sesame oil, salt, and Pajang sauce) - I wasnt sure what to expect because I like liver but have never had liver sashimi before. It definitely tastes very different. The texture is also chewy but slightly crunchy. This wasnt for meCitrus salmon (Atlantic salmon with salmon roe, red onion, jalapeno and lemon dressing) - cant go wrong with salmon sashimi. It sounds like theres a lot going on but all the flavors worked well with each otherChicken karaage (Japanese fried chicken with mala mayo) - another classic. When in doubt, just go with the fried chickenKatsu sandwich (Japanese pork fillet cutlet sandwich with Japanese mustard butter) - I cant remember if I liked this or not. Nothing really stood out to meYakiniku wrap (Barbecue washu beef with scallion pancake, lettuce, pickled vegetables, and mayo) - kind of basic and not worth the $16Gyu tongue (beef tongue with ginger scallion sauce) - very tender. I really liked the ginger scallion sauceYuzu miso pork (Pork belly with Sichuan pepper and yuzu miso sauce) - I remember this being a bit dryKani harumaki (Blend of snow crab, pork, mushroom and vegetables. Served with spring roll skin) - also pretty basic.Ebi mayo (shrimp with roasted almond, fresh cherry, and yuzu mayo) - I liked the yuzu mayoHakata roll (Amberjack roll with scallions wrapped in amberjack, shiso, and spicy cod roe) - too much shiso but other than that, the roll was goodUni scallop (seared scallop with sea urchin) - whats not to love about uni or scallop? This was the crowd favorite of the nightSmall Motsu hot pot white (Chicken bonito broth with beef intestine, cabbage, chives, and dumpling skin) - this was very flavorful and the broth tasted really clean. The veggies were a nice addition after indulging in such rich dishes earlier in the evening. But by the time the hot pot came, we were already pretty full.Even though we ordered so many things, there are still a bunch of other dishes Id like to try, so Ill definitely be back!

Comment: Delicious!! Everything we got was made beautifully and tasted so good! What we ordered:- Kara age (fried chicken)- Scallops with uni (4 pcs)- Pig feet in ponzu sauce- TonTon hotpot- Mentai gnocchi- Mentai fried rice- dessert platter (earl grey cheesecake, almond matcha tofu, sesame ice cream, matcha ice cream, strawberry and raspberry ice cream)Of the apps, my favorites were the scallops with uni and the mentai gnocchi. The scallops were lightly seared and so tender. The uni on top added an additional burst of umami which was so so good. The mentai gnocchi hit the spot with some fusion flavors. The gnocchi was soft and chewy. The tonton hot pot was delicious! It wasn’t too spicy so very manageable if you can’t normally handle heat. We added udon noodles to it at the end which they brought out with some additional broth. The udon were bouncy and chewy!Of the desserts, my favorites were the earl grey cheesecake and the almond tofu! The ice creams were a bit on the icy side rather than creamy side (which I normally prefer).

Every single dish was excellent. I think we tried about 1/3 of the items on the menu and I’m excited to return and try the rest. Comment: New location, same great taste. More sitting in their new location, and great energetic vibe here.Ordered the okonomiyaki and the large traditional pork hotpot. The Okonomiyaki was fantastic. Crispy outer layer and a gooey soft center. Definitely order again next time. The hotpot was good too. Lots of green veggies, pork, and the broth was very savory. Was drinking the broth at points, it is that good.Server asked if we wanted noodles or congee to end our meal. Opted for the congee and it was great choice. The rice soaked up the broth and made for a comforting ending to our meal.Usually need a reservation for this place. Got lucky as we came early and asked for a table. Comment: We were so devastated when we learned that Hakata Tonton in West Village closed down during the pandemic. Much to our delight, Chef Koji Hagihara decided to open one in Chelsea. It’s bigger and better, although I must admit we kind of miss the old west village charm. The menu has a few pages but is very easy to understand. It was also accompanied by mouth-watering photos to better understand the dishes. For our first visit, we decided to order some old favorites and try the new chef’s recommendations. We started with a bottle of California Chardonnay with wasabi Kanpachi; an amberjack fish with onions, pickled wasabi, garlic, green pea powder, and wasabi citrus soy. I must admit that this is an addition to our new favorites. We then followed it with Kani Harumaki; it’s a blend of snow crab, pork, mushrooms, and vegetables served with crispy spring roll skin. I love its “taco” concept, you have to fill the spring roll skin and then seasoned it with a special sauce. We love the fusion flavor and its crunchiness. We continued with our favorite garlic pork skewer and cilantro fried rice. It reminded us why we love Hakata Tonton in the first place. We noticed that the skewer serving was smaller than before, we will probably have one each in the future. We then followed it with Tonton hot pot; spicy miso Tonkatsu broth with chicken thigh, pork feet, pork belly, dumplings, tofu, and vegetables. There are two sizes and decided to just have the small one which was a good call because at that time we were already filled. We then concluded our dinner with their Japanese take on cheesecake. The whole dining experience was well worth the wait since we made reservations weeks in advance. The service was efficient and the entire restaurant is pristine. If you are reading this and haven’t RSVP yet, then what are you waiting for?

Comment: Ive been a big fan of this place since they were originally in the West Village. Im so happy to have them open again, with the original chef, at this new and spacious location. The space is huge compared to their West Village shop. The flavor and menu are impeccably the same. And service is great.Every dish here is amazing - black cod, pork belly skewers, garlic fried rice, etc. But what everyone comes for is their pork flavored hot pot. It is so savory. The mountain of chives not only looks amazing but I also love the taste. I can never have enough of it. The new location does not offer add-ons on their menu like the old one. Also no options of rice or noodles in the pot at the end. But still everything tastes amazing and I will be back for more.Since the space is so much bigger, the wait is much more manageable. My group didnt really have to wait long arriving around 6:30 on a Saturday night.

Our group of 4 ordered a bunch of small plate to share.- Uni Scallop- Goma Hamachi- Kakuni Buns- Maru Maru Potato- Katsu Sandwich- Tonsoku Ponzu- Tontoro- Shake x2Ramen- Citrus Salmon- Tonton Hot PotEverything was cooked well, had a ton of flavor, and just as good as I remembered. I personally love the tonsoku ponzu, tontoro, and uni scallop. Definitely will be back soon for more of their hot pot as it gets colder out.

Comment: Even better than before! Motsunabe or intestine hot pot is delicious. Very hearty especially for the winter. We tried many of the items and they were all excellent! The dessert platter was amazing. Service was great! The whole tomato 🍅 salad was really refreshing. Great texture! Excellent flavor with the pickled onions and yuzu(?) flavor. The veal liver sashimi is fresh! You can definitely taste the that irony livery texture. Great with the sesame dip.The mapo tofu was surprisingly excellent! I would even say this us better than many of the szechuan eateries. Hakata does it right! The gravy is thick with that fragrant Mala flavor, just the right amount of spicy and tang. Came with rice. This was really excellent. The nabe itself was hearty and pretty good portion of intestines vs vegetables ratio. We finished this with champon noodles. The small portion of noodles is actually very small for two people. Its really a SINGLE portion. But was okay for two since we had other dishes. And finally we had the dessert platter with hot tea. Great value because we tried several desserts and almost all were delicious. The earl grey tea cheesecake was super good. The sesame ice was on point! The sorbet was refreshing! The almond tofu pudding was surprisingly light! The Macha ice cream is the only average item because there was no red bean paste and no mochi. I suggest adding some red bean paste and maybe a small mochi to top it.The hot tea at the end is definitely appreciated! This small but necessary hot tea made the meal so much better. Intestine could be a bit heavy and oily so the hot tea was definitely great at the end for digestion.Service was prompt and polite. Dishes came out on time and were cleared in good time.Overall a fantastic comeback!

Comment: The food, dessert and service here are AMAZING!!! Would love to come here again to try other dishes for sure!MARU MARU POTATO was crispy outside and soft inside. The truffle cream was the highlight. Great appetizer.TONTON HOT POT was mild spicy and with lots of veggies. I like the flavor but hope there are more tofu and chicken in it. We added udon at the end of the meal. Very fulfilling.KOCHA CHEESECAKE stole the spotlight of the dinner. Rich cheesecake but the black tea flavor and lemon zest balanced the whole dessert. Really spot on!!!Staff was so helpful and friendly. The dining environment was clean and organized too. Nothing can be complained about this place.

Comment: A little bit of expensive. Service is great, but I wish they serve more pig feet in a $35 pot (I feel there was only a half pig foot).

Comment: Very good Japanese restaurant!!Take in account that is different then sushi place here you can eat different kind of dishes more Japanese style 90% Japanese client in restaurant .I had a very good dinner, high quality and fresh food, nice service the young guy at the bar was super kind and friendly. This is a 5 stars place but I gave 4 stars because they have some dishes with mayonnaise and is too much and the fride shrimp where too sweet with too much mayonnaise....(probably was also my mistake that ive took those things) .another thing please put something to land the feet when you are seat at the bar otherwise is really uncomfortable is very easy just add a tube where you can put your feet on it ..

Comment: Had a wonderful experience here. Starting with the cocktails there is an amazing liquor program here and the bartenders are experts. The appetizers we’re all very enticing and I had trouble deciding. I ended up ordering the roast beef, the pork buns and the fried chicken. These were all good shareable portions and tasted phenomenal. I decided to try the Tonton hotpot which was my first ever hot pot experience. The broth entire dish was amazing but the broth really sung. I am looking forward to visiting again in the future.

Comment: Good vibrance and menu, The side dishes were pretty tasty but I really did not like the hot pot. The intestines were SOOo rubbery and impossible to swallow so we had to throw all of them out. Also it’s just small amount of vegetables and that’s it. They could definitely put a lot more into the hot pot to make it worth it and pleasing

Comment: Everything tasted great. The hot pot had a lot of vegetables and could have used more meat in it. You have an option to add noodles afterward, but I wish I could do it from the beginning. The drinks were great as well. They have a lot of interesting items on their menu. The person who seemed to be the manager/owner was very attentive to all the customers.

Comment: Theyre back and better than ever! Great new location. The food is amazing and the consistency of how delicious everything still stands the test of time. A lot of other restaurants try to imitate but Chef Koji Hagihara holds it down and there is no competition. I loved that all the classics are still on the menu. I also got to try some of the new tasty innovative dishes. Full stocked bar with all the best libations for you to enjoy with your delicious food. So dont hesitate and make your reservation now or be left wishing you did cause theyre filling up fast and for obvious reasons. Five Stars in my opinion. Thank you Hakata TonTon for your detail to attention and efforts to reopen. The service is welcoming, attentive, and definitely on point.

Comment: Food is delicious and not that pricy. Service is fantastic. Highly recommend. You don’t see receipts with a 15% tip suggestion in nyc nowadays, but tonton def deserves a 20%. FYI Their kitchen looks spotlessly clean.

Comment: This place gets busy very fast and stays busy. Many people who came in group had to wait a bit, with as many as five groups lined up in front of them on the queue. So be sure you have reservations or patience. They are currently having a grand opening. All my photos of the food show after Ive eaten more than a few bites. I couldnt wait.I came at around 7 alone, so I was at least able to get a seat at their bar. The place was packed. They have a standing space in the front for people to wait. Its nicely decorated with flowers and a bonsai display. The rest of the restaurant feels more bare of color, with the AC system exposed in the ceiling, simple metal stylings above the bar, gray floors, wooden stools and tables; all save fpt a green neon sign in the middle. The servers are very courteous even when busy and often are very occupied. I feel they might be understaffed or just overbooked possibly, but they are able to accommodate well enough for the dinner rush that they dont forget what you ordered and will come tell you if there has been any delays, which is appreciated.Their Motto is that they make everything with care, which might explain the wait time for the food, though the full house should also be taken into consideration. Its not an egregious wait time for food. For people waiting to get a table though, it could take a while since the atmosphere encourages people to linger.I had planned to order the chuhi red, but they were out of the carbonated shochu, I guess. I ordered the Suntory instead, with the tontoro and a gocha (earl Grey) cheese cake for dessert. As I sipped my beer, I could watch the Barkeeper serving other people at the rather packed bar. The seat I was on was a little wobbly, and the small surface area wasnt the most comfortable, compared to Tonchin in the same area. The tontoro is a hot dish served on a sizzling platter, so that takes a bit longer. It came hot with the chive sauce, which was sort of fun to pour on, save that it spattered a bit. But thats to be expected. The pork cheek comes with celery, and you can shift them around on the pan with the sauce to get them a little brown before eating. Despite the richness of the pork, the chives cut through entirely. The pork itself has a good, chewy mouthful. For dessert, the gocha cheesecake came with house-whipped cream and orange zest. Unfortunately, the orange zest was the dominant flavor and the delicate aroma and flavor of earl Grey was taking a backseat. However, the texture of the cake was great and rich, contrasting with the mild and light cream. The crust is also well baked, with good color.Overall, this was a fun experience. I suspect that once they get into the swing of opening back up, they will work out all their kinks and be even more popular than now, which would be nice.
