Comment: A flavor fest packed with robust dashi broth, juicy beef, and caramelized scallions that bring a delicate sweetness. The beef? Clearly marinated in sweet soya or mirin, it announces its presence from the first bite. And the broth - oh, the broth! Its not just good, its a symphony of taste thats pure, sophisticated, and oh-so-savory. Picture savoring this hot, aromatic udon, with succulent slices of beef, while bracing a crisp 36°F weather. Pure bliss! Despite your doors being closed, your flavors left such an impression that they still deserve a rave review.

Comment: Our party of 4 didn’t have a reservation but the host was incredibly accommodating and managed to seat us at the bar since we were willing to wait a little bit.We got a winter special tuna sashimi, which was probably the best sashimi I’ve had outside of a sushi place: tender and oceanic without being off-puttingly fishy.I got the tantan garlic udon, and the pork was astoundingly soft and rich. The noodles were hefty but also soft. The dish reminded me of tonkatsu ramen, but I preferred it to all the various ramen places I’ve had in the city. The cherry on top of our dinner was that our server was incredibly friendly and attentive. They had overheard us talking about another udon place in the city, and when we asked for the check, they jokingly (but not jokingly) asked if hanon was better. (We did like most of our dishes at hanon better.)

Comment: Food 5/5I think this might be my absolute favorite udon spot in the entire city (I was an avid fan of Raku and still am, but hanon is just on a whole other level). I ordered the duck udon set with the two types of udon. They were the ideal level of chew, and the flavor was perfect when I dipped it in the soup. The tempura udon, pork curry udon, and niku udon all had their unique flairs. The plating was also super minimal and cute. Would definitely visit again when I am in Brooklyn!Interior 5/5Very nice indoor seating, quite small and narrow, but gives off a very intimate feel. We were seated outdoors in their backyard, where they had small bulbs/makeshift tents. Because it was in the winter, we were the only ones out, but it honestly wasnt too cold.Service 4/5Took a while for the udon to come out, but besides that, friendly staff.

Comment: We were excited to try hanon because of cold New York weather. A warm bowl of udon sounded perfect! The ambience was cool and understated. The music was a mix of lo-fi alternative music that had a good vibe. We ordered the spicy soy karaage which tasted great - has an undercurrent of spice that matched perfect with the crispy skin. We also got the tempura shishito peppers which were amazing! The lemon salt matched perfectly with the sweet spicy green peppers. As for Udon, we ordered the Namahamu Truffle Oil Udon with a thick layer of proscuitto. This had an interesting flavor - the soup was seasoned with the fragrance and flavor of truffle but also the saltiness of the proscuitto. A great item to try just to experience. We also got the TanTan Udon which had the beautifully-marked soft-boiled egg. This had the right amount of heat and spice to tickle our tastebuds. The sake was elite! Warm and had a nice refreshing taste to it. We got two bottles. So good!

Comment: Ive heard this place gets really busy but maybe because of the holidays we got lucky and were able to walk in on a friday night. There was staff buzzing around the front but no one said hello or “give us a moment” so we were kind of just chilling there for 5 minutes looking around. I get it on a busy day but on a slow day? Gave me careless, Ill greet them when Im ready Im on closing mode already vibe. Regardless, udon was delicious. The vegetarian tomato ramen had the tastiest broth with fresh tomatoes and mushrooms. The tempura was amazing. My friend didn’t like how chewy the cold udon noodles were but they are prepared different than the hot udon noodles on purpose we assumed. Decor was very cozy and perfect on a winter day.

Comment: They were out of all the dipping sauce except the original one the day we came. There was only a subtle difference between the 2 kinds of noodles, but still pretty good. We didnt like the prosciutto udon because the prosciutto wasnt good, but the broth is pretty ok. The mochi tempura was good, the mentaiko tempura (mushroom) was too oily. The eggplant appetizer was really good. The cream cheese appetizer was tiny. The duck with hot dipping sauce was really good. You can also order a side of gyuni (beef) with the cold dipping udon.

Comment: Hanon was recommended by our friends who are super picky with Japanese cuisine, especially Udon. Their entrance is humble & simple and its easy to miss. There are more patio seatings with cozy ambiance than indoor seatings. We had their Chicken Karaage, Agenasu Kinoko Ankake (Eggplant with mushroom) and Half & Half Kamo Seiro Udon to share with a group of 2. We love everything, especially the eggplant and mushroom, which was braised so flavorful and juicy. The udon was also good and the noodle was chewy and perfect with the sauce. However, their service was slow and reluctant despite of their great food. We asked for water & check so many times but we ended up requesting from the counter directly ourselves.

Comment: Visited Williamsburg on a hot summer day, came across this restaurant which might have missed since the signage was not very prominent, but that seems to be the case for some Japanese restaurants, a hole in the wall with great food. Walking inside, it is bigger than I expected, with a backyard hosting couple of tents. We chose to sit inside on of the tents in the backyard, the weather was cooperating, not very hot with gentle breeze throughout the visit. Fried chicken (Karaage) was very juicy and tender, the spicy bean paste was an excellent companion to the chicken. The udon noodles was very chewy, which I love. The dipping broth was flavorful but not overwhelming, very nice to eat on a hot summer day. The price can be a bit on the expensive side, but that’s the case for most authentic Japanese restaurants. Overall recommend this place and would come again.

Comment: Good service and ambience both times Ive been here the past month. Very flavorful broths (both tan tan and the duck dip sauce) and delicious tempura but the meal didnt wow me as much as I thought it would. The duck was a little tough and the tan tan noodles was a little too rich for me to finish everything and the cheesecake-ish pudding was not memorable. I would go back again if my friends wanted to go but Ill personally not make a special trip.

Comment: Excellent Japanese restaurant which specialises in Udon. The staff were so friendly and service very quick. Currently dining in the open igloos is pretty comfortable. I remember the food being on point and the service being spot on.We came for dinner this time around and while its wildly popular, the tofu salad was great and the curry wagyushu was amazing - silky udon and tender succulent slices of beef - the bar seating up against the wall was just dirty. Comment: The house made udon is adding wheat germ and bran to the white flour, which made the texture is bit rough but also chewy and healthy. The tempura shrimp and shiitake mushroom are perfectly battered and fried, golden and crispy outside and not overcooked inside in the meanwhile. We also enjoyed the red bean jelly, which satisfied our sweet tooth but not too heavy to finish the meal.

Comment: This is a quality place that is getting more and more popular every day. Definitely get an udon dish but their other options are excellent as well (Octopus salad). The udon with beef-curry broth was awesome, I recommend extra noodles every time.I don’t believe they except reservations ahead so expect a little bit of a wait. If you need to, Montesacro and Barcade right next door are perfect to kill time. Only thing that would make this place better is a liquor license. TBD I hope

Comment: Fresh udon made on-site with flour imported from Japan. Very special blend, one with bamboo that makes the udon green but thats only available cold. It was a cold day so we only ordered hot noodles. The veggie/seafood kakiage and the beef curry using were delicious. Great texture and flavor. Must try if you are in the area.Went back the second time for summer cold udon and just as impressed as first time. Visit if you can. You can taste the craftsmanship. If you order the mountain yam dipping sauce, be sure to mix it well before dipping. Its very foamy.

Comment: Tempura was really authentic but Udon I felt was a bit overpowered by spinach and yuzu. Noodles them selves were perfectly cooked and chewy. Wish they had liquor license. Overall good experience.

Comment: Consistently great food- have tried 10 or so dishes so far, impressed every time. Also worth noting- great service the dozen or so times I’ve been; the manager is consistently particularly cool to chat with about food, Japan, et al, and the staff make good menu Recc’s on the regular.Try the tempura egg. Curry Udon is great too.

Comment: I had great spicy cod cold noodles. The yam sauce lacked a little punch. They are still waiting for liquor license but the oolong tea was good supplement. Good service and fast turn around.

Comment: A very generous four stars of my part because although the udon is good, the entire meal remained mostly forgettable. Hanon will be more appealing however once they have a liquor license and start seating people in the outside patio.

Comment: Overall a pleasant experience. I ordered the tempura dipping set (tempura seiro) with both selections of available udon. Server recommended the sesame dipping sauce.I really enjoyed the chewy bite of the udon. Honestly, I cant tell the difference in taste (newb palette) but its interesting to say the least. The place is certainly worth another visit. I will get the soup next time. The reason for the 4 stars is because of the tendon. The whole point tempura is the crispy tempura batter. The tendon tempura was unfortunately dipped or spent too much time in sauce, making the batter soggy. Would be significantly better if the sauce was put on top of the bed of rice first then have the tempura drizzled with sauce instead. Maybe this is a regional thing?

Comment: One of the newest additions to the metropolitan/Lorimer stop eats! They opened this year and today was my first time visiting. I love noodles, and this udon place definitely has caught my attention. Has great atmosphere/abivence. I had ordered one of their chilled udon sets and it was certainly a different dining experience. Most times, I perfer hot udon in broth. But today I wanted something cooler to counter the NY spring heat. Perfect choice. You get a plate of freshly made noodles (chilled) and you soak your noodles in the broth/sauce they give you and eat. Not to be mistaken as a broth, the sauce was flavorful and impactful without being too saturated with odd flavors. I do admit, I was a bit sad that the tempura wasnt alot bigger, cause I loveee tempura but! The tempura was light and fluffy as it should be and it was just enough to fill me. 5/5 will go again.

Comment: The atomosphere is so welcoming the staff is super patient and knowledgable about the their products one thing that can be difficult to understand is the menu but the staff can be of help. Their bathroom is amazing heated seats and a bidet and they have a little speaker with music and they have an outside area that wasnt opened because of the weather but it looked super cute and the appitizer i had was soooo good

Comment: I love this place because its small and homey. Cant wait for them to open the back deck this summer. Service is great and the food is dope. The menu is a little complicated but they take their time with you and explain things well. Also, the person that complained about the kitchen being closed 15 minutes before close is super entitled.

Comment: Not since living in Kyoto have I had udon this good. The noodles are exactly right, the broth is exactly right, but the toppings are better than that. With the toppings, Hanon innovates in subtle, refined ways that make all the difference. Some baby bok choi with the kakiage udon for a touch of grassy bitterness; or a bit of lemon zest in the kitsune udon. Lemon zest in the broth of the kitsune udon! It’s transcendental.

Comment: The appetizers were pretty amazing. The cabbage steak, and the fried egg plant were special and unlike any other appetizers Ive ever had.I had the curry udon and it was fantastic - not overpowering, tasty, filling, and really great on a cold day.Staff couldnt be nicer, and the whole place is very... japanese! :-) Would go back for sure.
