Comment: Minimalist awesome Japanese spot in Cobble Hill. Fresh awesome fish. What I love about this place is that it feels so family owned, but on top of that the food is just simply delicious. As Another reviewer mentioned mentioned there is no teriyaki drizzle over mediocre sushi rolls here. Usually, I can feel a little sick from bad quality fish and that It’s not the case here. I love that they do daily specials. A lot of Asian cultures embrace little side dishes! It keeps coming back fresh and fun. I love their spicy tuna roll and obanzais (side dishes that chang daily). Don’t get me started w/ the fresh tofu pudding. I wish I would’ve discovered this place sooner. My only feedback is I wished they had lighter dressings. They are a little overly seasoned for me. Otherwise, all the goodness.Love it! Support small businesses.

Comment: I was first surprised at how oily the cuisine was, but the fat brought so much flavor with it. I went back twice in one week. One of my fav Japanese places. I DID NOT EAT THE SUSHI FYI. Even though Im Japanese I dont like sushi. (May family as well)

Comment: This hidden gem in Cobble Hill has one of the best sushi in the city. The pieces come very fresh and the rice is properly seasoned. It’s pricier than the typical sushi in a standard Japanese restaurant but you’ll get the premium quality of a high-end sushi place without the high prices. The variety of daily “obanzai” dishes keep me coming back; one day I had fried Salmon balls and another day it was a house-made tofu dish. Easily the most authentic Japanese restaurant in Brooklyn, if not the city. And thank god the menu doesn’t have the sauce-laden rice-bombs-with-barely-any-seafood monstrosity people call “sushi” nowadays.

Comment: The food was very good and I really enjoyed it. I had the chefs choice sushi platter served with miso soup and salad. The service was good but short people as far as I could tell. I arrived first of my party and was told to wait outside till the rest of the party arrived. It was over 90 degrees outside and there was plenty of room for me to stand in the AC. When my party showed up 3 minutes later we were asked to wait outside while the table was cleared, we didnt. It took a minute because they were short handed, we understood, but we werent waiting outside in the heat. Lost a star for that. Otherwise the service was good once seated. Id go back again.

Comment: Dined on a tuesday at 6pm with my husband and a toddler— easy to get a table. service is attentive and the food is *excellent*. high quality, great portion size— the rice in the sushi roll is perfect temp and seasoned beautifully. the size of the sashimi in the roll is unprecedented! the salmon roll had fat, fluffy pieces of salmon spilling out of it. my toddler ate up all the edamame and the grilled salmon. we can’t wait to go back.

Comment: Hibino is our favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. It just exemplifies quality and care, the ingredients are top notch and the staff (especially Kenta!) are so friendly and welcoming. I get the bento lunch box weekly and it’s always something to look forward to. The salmon collar is unbeatable. They’re able to get their flavors so on point without it ever being heavy or too salty.

Comment: This small neighborhood gem has been around for years and Ive visited a few times for lunch and dinner. The food is consistently good and high quality, made with fresh ingredients. Theyve developed such a local following that you can always expect a line of patrons waiting to dine. This time I went with cousins who are near weekly regulars. Their trick is to visit Hibino midweek before the restaurant opens to ensure immediate seating. We waited for about 20 minutes before they opened their doors and were the last group of people to enter before they were completely full.My cousin always gets the Grilled Salmon Collar Bento and raved about it, so the rest of us got the same and promptly cleaned them out of their stock of salmon collars. One of us had to choose a different menu item, so the Beef Short Ribs was selected. We also ordered some tuna and uni sushi to start.Everything we ordered had good flavors and textures, and gave me comfort food vibes. It was like eating Japanese home cooking, but what also stands out is how fresh everything tastes. The high quality ingredients and freshness is apparent in every bite, and I think this is what keeps people coming back for more. I daresay theyll make a regular out of me too.

Comment: Its no wonder why Hibino is always so packed - the sushi is simply outstanding! We had the tuna tataki salad to start, which was flavorful and generous enough for two. We also shared a sushi special, along with two pieces of heavenly toro. The fried eel roll was scrumptious without being greasy or heavy. And to top off the evening, we enjoyed a Cloudy House sake that was not too sweet. All in all, it was a delicious date night experience that reminds one why they fell in love with this restaurant in the first place. Highly recommended!

Comment: Everything was awesome. One of my favorites from the menu was the shira-ae. Basically blanched green veggies with a bit of salt and a tofu sauce. The tofu sauce was delicious, and different than any tofu I had ever experience. This dish was very mild and nuanced, and you could really just sink into the flavors. The agedashi tofu was also excellent. “Hibino” as I understand, means “daily.” As in the ingredients are prepared daily, and I will attest that everything tasted fresh. The sushi is also excellent, the yellowtail jalapeño was among my favorites. I imagine this is what a great restaurant in Kyoto tastes like. Our server was great too. She explained the dishes, to us and made some great recommendations. I look forward to going back there.

Comment: Such a lovely spot in Greenpoint ! Situated in really scenic area. The restaurant is small in size, but really clean and has great ambience.Food was so amazing. I love that Japanese cuisine has proportions that are just right. Each dish was so deliciously prepared. They seem to change out their obanzai ばんざい daily(since it is based on the tradition of using ingredients, mainly veg or seafood, that usually may end up being discarded). Our obanzai we chose were the Beef tendon curry (SO soft and tender, full of umami flavors) and Japanese Potato salad. My friend and I also had some sushi and the tonkatsu entree. So yummy! My fav was probably the obanzai curry 🍛Service was amazing, efficient and fast, and all servers were super nice.

Comment: The food is good and fresh but I dare a little expensive for my point of view only because for a kind of food like this you should expect a service at the same level and this is not :especially when you see the sushi man is drinking a beer when he is preparing food, or personnel bring you the bill at ten without asking if you would like a postry and finally when you ask to call a taxi and they tell to go just around the corner to find one.. Because generally hotel call a taxi!!!

Music was a bit annoying as they started playing really fast rock music so I naturally felt rushed lol. waiters were friendly.Only a few people there on A Tuesday night and came in after stopping somewhere else that was overpriced. Clean and open. BYOB with no corkage fee if you buy from a place down the block with the same owner.

Comment: Delicious, simple and affordable! Try any dish with tofu as it is housemade and absolutely singular in taste and texture alike. The daily obanzi, or homestyle recipes, are always surprisingly minimalist when it comes to ingredients and rich in flavor and textures. I ordered a non traditional coleslaw from this menu on my visit, along with the Hibino Sushi Plate. The sushi was fresh of course, and the chef selected items were relatively outstanding compared to the yellowtail scallion roll I selected for the second half of the dish, which was simply delightful. Last but not least, do not pass up the soymilk custard for dessert!

Comment: My absolute favorite neighborhood restaurant in the area, sushi is always super fresh, the $5 obanzai dishes are interesting, cheap and pretty much always a different selection, so something new to try. The chicken teriyaki is fantastic, which is generally not something you say about a plain dish like that. The staff are super friendly and everything is reasonably priced for the quality. It fills up quickly with locals but plenty of bars nearby to grab a beer while you wait.

Very relaxed atmosphere, an offering of Japanese Tapas, and freshly made Tofu, you should get there early for dinner since the place gets packed real quickly. Start off with the beef kakuna.
