Comment: I recently tried the spicy chicken ramen at this place, and it was an absolute delight! The broth had the perfect level of spiciness, adding a kick to the rich and tasty chicken flavor. The service was impressively fast, making it a great option for a quick and satisfying meal. Highly recommend for ramen enthusiasts! 🍜

Comment: Every item from the well worn iron teapots to the ginger tea to the ramen itself bleeds aade by hand flavor thats incredibly hard to find in New York at affordable prices. This Ramen restaurant pulls it off in spades though. The staff are incredibly polite with good suggestions. The broth is flavorful and rich, tasting of slow simmered stock instead of cheap bullion, with well rounded subtle flavors instead of an over reliance on MSG and salt. Excellent portions and very affordable pricing as well. The tea selection, while simple is very well made. The ginger tea was incredibly smooth and fruity; the matcha steeped with actual leaves instead of the normal powder affair.Overall a must go for food in Astoria, I can see why this place spent time on the Michelin guide.

My favorite is the uni but you need to like uni. Then the hinomaru, because its delicious too. Try them both! Truthfully I like almost all of the ramen here . And the appetizers are good too. Enjoy.

Comment: This is my once a month spot, and I always enjoy their ramen. They have a good variety for every taste buds. Their service is always good too. However today, during the heatwave, their owner decided it was a good idea to turn off their AC. I was drenched in sweat after my meal. I feel so bad for their employees as well, because theyre clearly struggling with the stuffy air and humid environment. Not a good working condition, what is the owner thinking???

Comment: Perfect ramen40.774964 -73.909116 Just at the end of the N/W subway on Ditmars Boulevard, this casual Astoria noodle bar headed by chef Koji Miyamoto proudly displays its 2019 Michelin star and its earlier 2017 Bibi Gourmand. In May 2023, the signature house-made tonkotsu shoyu ramen (Kagoshima style) with pork, kikurage, menma, scallion, red ginger and roasted garlic ($16) swims in a rich and creamy port bone broth with seasoned pork. The flavour is really well balanced between a little spicy and red ginger and roasted garlic. It evokes memories of Japan. So delicious.Far from home, Hinomaru serves excellent ramen. Highly recommended.

Comment: I had the fried pork gyoza. It is 4 pieces and I liked it.I had the hinomaru ramen there. I liked how the spicy thing is a ball of minced meat, so you can control how spicy each bite is.I got the pork belly popcorn to go. Its okay, but I ate it quite a while later. Plus I was still full.I came with a buddy. He likes this place. I had a nice time here.

Comment: HinoMari is *good*, but I dont taste much of what made them *great* from when I first tried them in 2021.At the same time they are still *good*. Their pork-based broths I think are the strength overall. The shoyu broth was, for me, rather bland - even the soy flavor was a lacking, not simply insufficient salt. The curry broth is probably my favorite overall though. The chashu is good. The egg is ok - just soft boiled, not that wonderful near-cooked texture you get at somewhere like Susuru.Candidly for excellent ramen, your choices are susuru and shoyu, and the latter moves to Manhattan. But for good and local, HinoMaru is an easy choice.

Comment: Really love the vegetarian broth for the ramen. Nice bright taste of ginger that balances well with the ramen toppings as well.Only drawback to me was the dining area felt on the colder side, I had to wear a jacket the whole time. We went in the early afternoon and the restaurant was relatively empty, so that could account for the lower temperature.

Comment: This surely has to be one of the best ramen places in NYC. The pork slices are outstandingly tender and flavoursome. Tried the broth on its own without the garlic oil and chilli, then tried the rest on its own and then finally with the chilli bomb. Its like a journey of flavours. The little details like have the sea weed stuck on the bowl rather than soup. Very deserving of the one star.

Comment: Tonkatsu and spicy miso ramen were fantastic. The meat was tender, and the fat melted nicely. Okonomiyaki was very good. Takoyaki was a little chewy for me, but the flavor was still good. Server was kind and did a great job.Only problem was that we were bothered the entire time by gnats, a type of small fly. I understand bugs get in during the summer months, but would be nice to not have to deal with that. Maybe a fly trap would do the trick?Definitely coming back. Great work!

Comment: I’ve eaten here several times, they indeed make a very good bowl of ramen. The noodles are quite tasty with lots of depth in the broth. They say they close at 10pm on a Tuesday, but they started telling guest at 9:06pm that the kitchen is closing in two minutes, End ordering taking out. The staff wasn’t exactly too friendly given that they want to close early I’d assume. It’s just unfortunate, I think they should update their online listing that they close when the kitchen close.

In the summer they have cold ramen specials.Edit after 2 years: Still so good. I just had the Cold Soba with Frozen Lemon Ponzu special, perfect for a hot day. Savory sweet but bright if you drag your chopsticks through the wasabi painted high on the bowl. Wasabi micro greens and raw okra helped keep that brightness through the entire dish.

The ribs on the Tonkatsu were fall off the bone and well marinated. Finally, the ceviche ramen, which is cold, was one of the most refreshing things Ive eaten. It had generous amounts of salmon, tuna, shrimp, mussels, and scallops. The lime based sauce complimented the seafood perfectly and the noodles had very good chew. Comment: Came to Hinomarus with the brother and his girlfriend because... who doesn’t come to ditmars and try new food right?! We walked up and down the strip and landed on this place cause it’s been a while since I had some Ramen. This spot had indoor and outdoor seating which was part of the appeal. We were seated quickly and attended do promptly which was awesome. My brother Started off with the shrimp Shumai and I picked up the Tokayaki (fried octopus balls) and the Fried Pork Gyoza... hands down— appetizers alone got it it’s 4 stars cause they were legit and the best thing I got from here. For the main course I got the house special Hinomaru with one fireball and my brother got the Spicy Miso with the fireball on the side... both of us were unable to finish the bowls for two reasons, 1. They were indeed FILLING and 2... unfortunately they weren’t really all that.Compliments to the chef and the team for setting a beautiful tone and presentation and of course the food was good but the appetizers were way better than the main course and that makes me a little sad, because usually you want the entree is supposed to knock it out the park.

The first time I went I ordered pork ramen and it was sooo delicious and even the chicken spicy ramen was great. Next time went again I ate 3 crispy kale(don’t judge me judge the chef😬) but the veggie ramen was ‘okay’ they could have done a lil better. Over all not much of wait time, call 15 mins ahead for reservation they really don’t take them lately but still I do because it’s cold outside. Very clean and beautiful Japanese looking place I loved it and I’m going again and again 🤤 also the staffs are very friendly and nice 👍🏻

Broth may taste good but other components to the dish must be worked on. An inedible experience.

Comment: My oh my was the ramen outstandingly delicious. In my experience/opinion, the best Ive had in NYC.Hinomaru ramen - nice and spicy, but perfectly balanced with the rest of the soup and topping. Nothing overwhelms, just a perfect harmony of flavorsCeviche ramen - so refreshing and the fish so fresh. Absolutely perfect for a hot day and tremendous value for the price

Comment: I know this is a Michelin ramen spot and with that name comes...expectations.I was pleased with my curry ramen but just wasnt the best Ive had. Perhaps it was lacking some umami.I also ordered the gyoza which were okay, nothing special or memorable. The short ribs on the other hand were my absolute favorite. So much flavor and tender. It made me regret sharing!I also had some green tea mochi. Good but nothing to rave about.

Comment: Dined here on a Saturday night with the wife, daughter and daughters boyfriend. Casual place - no tablecloths. No reservations. They do take credit cards, but not Amex. Food was really good. They have the best shumai ever - a little spicy with big hunks of shrimp. Seaweed salad was good but they should lose the corn, which seems out of place and adds nothing. Soft shelled crab buns were outstanding. The fried rice with shrimp and poached eggs was fantastic. My family like their Raman bowls. Had genmatcha tea served in a teapot - nice touch. Very reasonable prices. Great service. Go.

Comment: One of the best ramen places Ive been to in the city right in my own neighborhood.. this delicious spicy Kara Champon House-made, creamy, and full-bodied Hakata-style pork bone broth cooked for 17 hours with spicy wok-roasted togarashi, tiger shrimp, squid, mussel, pork, cabbage, carrots, kikurage, bean sprout, scallion, and fish cake hits the spot and I cant wait for the weather to get colder so I can frequent this locale more often. The waiters are a bit quiet but let the food speak for itself. Add on toppings are plentiful including some favorites such as avocado, corn, and an in-house fireball a savory yet spicy mix of spicy paste and minced pork.

Depending on the weather, you can eat inside and/or outside. Hot tea is free and it is great to have it at any time (for digestion). I usually order the spicy misso with the fire ball (meat) on a side since it can get very spicy. Great to eat alone, with a group, and even children. Highly recommended. Comment: My wife and I tried HinoMaru the other day. We initially passed by it after grabbing breakfast in Ditmars Steinway. Both of us felt that it was going to a good place based on the outward appearance (judging a book by its cover). After doing some research online, we gave it try, and were glad we did. We started with the Chicken Karaage and a Soft Shell Crab Maki. Both were okay. I guess its a ramen joint after all. For our mains, we shared a bowl of Hinomaru Ramen and a plate of Egg Chahan. We really should have paid a little more attention to the spicy rating on the menu. My wife couldnt handle the 3/3 heat rating for the ramen, gave up after a few bites, and proceed to fill up on fried rice. The creamy pork broth was absolutely amazing, but we really should have gone with the Tonkotsu Ramen instead (and ask for Shichimi Togarashi). This normally would have resulted in a non-review from us (since we didnt order correctly), but then we discovered their magical poached egg. Normally, ramen shops poached egg has a semi-soft white with a running yolk. HinoMarus poached egg has both the white and yolk running. Its really a sight to see (and poke at). Service is friendly and the decor is typical sparse ramen shop with an outdoor seating area. Were just glad to have such an authentic ramen shop in Queens and dont have to head into the city for our ramen fix.

Comment: The food was good but a bit pricey, i.e. 4 pieces of gyoza as an appetizer. The ramens are a decent size and very flavorful. The chicken ramen is not my cup of tea...it is just pieces of chicken, not cut up and with the skin on it, thrown in a ramen bowl. The lemongrass and hinomaru ramens were tasty. The seats are a bit cramped since its just a bench and there isnt a space to put your jacket or belongings.

Comment: A great ramen place in Queens, perfect for a cold day and always very filling. The ramen is hot, the broth is extremely good and the portions are filling, with all the standard ramen fare and good options for add-ins (I like to get extra soft boiled or poached egg in mine, personally). I will say the seating is a bit uncomfortable for me, as the traditional chairs have no back rest to lean against, but other than that, Hinomaru is a fantastic spot to get a good bowl of ramen.

Comment: The shoyu ramen was perfect! The noodlesWere soft but not to soft that it would fall apart on you. The vegetables were great and had a wide variety in the bowl that did not mess up the taste of the dish. I️ ate it down to the bottom And still had veggies to demolish! The gyozas were fresh and were perfectly done it came with four medium sized pieces with soy sauce and that too was demolished. I️ also had the Nagoya ramen and it was amazing. It is spicy but not overly spicy it had the perfect kick to it. It contained a lot of ground chicken, bean sprouts, and scallions. The ground chicken made its presence into every bite all the way down to the bottom there was still a lot of ground chicken. A perfectly simple bowl of ramen with so much flavor!

Comment: The ingredients are super fresh, its been a consistent spot. It can be hard to tell whats fresh, especially when meat/bones has been boiled so long to make the broth, so what you need to so it to order their seafood ramen and it does not lie. The base Tonkotsu pork broth where they use this base to make multiple variations of ramen is a gold standard. The umami is overflowing, there are lots of ingredients that contributes to the high level of glutamic acid. Simply superb.

Comment: Came here a couple of times. And the first two times, I thought the ramen was on point. I have had the Tonkatsu, Hinomaru, and Miso. The third time that I went, or the last time I went, I ordered the Miso, and I thought it was a tad too salty. Not what I recall the last two times. Just a heads up to the management there. Go easy there! People are becoming health conscious. I dont want heartburn after eating ramen. Anyways, for appetizers, we had fried shrimp and octopus. Both pretty pricey for the amount we got but overall super tasty. One of the better ramen spots in Astoria in my opinion.

Comment: Been to this place 3 times, trying different variety, all the ingredients are very flavorful. The fireball is a little spicy and salty, I think its recommended that you break the fireball and mix it with your broth, and from what I can tell thats what youre suppose to do because the fireball easily crumbles.

Comment: I love this place! It is my go to ramen spot. The appetizers are delicious, especially the Shishito peppers. The HinoMaru Ramen is so tasty and completely satisfies a ramen craving. The broth is nice and rich and the added fireball gives the ramen a nice little kick. The noodles are also usually perfect as well!

Comment: Came here with 4 people and a baby and had a pleasant time. Service was excellent. They were really attentive to what utensils needed to be replaced after the baby threw them onto the floor, multiple times. They even refilled out water after the bill had been paid for.For appetizers, we had their chicken neck, buta kimchi, agedashi tofu, fried asparagus. Out of the appetizers, the buta kimchi was the best. What was really weird was that it only had one slice of pork but if you dig around in the kimchi section, they have pieces of pork. At first, I was appalled of only having one slice of pork, but luckily, they didnt skimp out on that ingredient. The kimchi was excellent and not too spicy at all. Definitely a well balanced dish. I had an issue with the asparagus because it wasnt al dente. It had to do with how they cooked it and then fried it. The tempura batter was excellent, lightly fried. When I bit into it, the asparagus was soft and a little stringy. I guess a combination of produce selection and cooking method caused the dish to commit seppuku. I somewhat liked the agedashi tofu. It was extremely lightly fried which was good but the tofu was a little hard for my taste. I like mine a little softer but I guess thats just a matter of preference. The soup/sauce base is a little sweet but I thought the dish was good overall. The least appealing thing was the chicken neck. It really lacked seasoning and flavor. I dont mind the abundance of bones but fairly flavorless. I wouldnt get it again. For main course, we had their Miso ramen, Kurogoma tantan, Hinomaru Ramen, and Oyako don. Overall, the price you pay for the quality of food is decent enough to not have to trek to Manhattan for Ippudo. However, the ramen at Ippudo is better than this place. My miso ramen was on the salty side and definitely little to no miso taste at all. Definitely due to the overpowering of the pork. My noodles were also too al dente, bordering raw. The Kurogoma tantan (Black sesame miso and butter calamari) tasted more like black pepper and garlic sauce but soup based and with calamari instead of the traditional pork in chinese dishes. I didnt like the dish at all, one bite and I thought I was eating a chinese dish. Instead of this, they should make it into a black ink squid ramen. I think it would suit them better. I did however liked these noodles better than mine. The Hinomaru ramen was salty as well and the egg noodle reminded me of wonton soup. I just didnt like the noodles for this dish. All the other ingredients worked well in this dish and as another reviewer had posted, it isnt oily at all. Thats one common theme for all the ramen that I tried, none of it were overly oily. I didnt get a chance to try the oyako don but from the looks of it, the chicken looked a little dry and little to no sauce at all for the entire dish. Not sure if thats how its supposed to be but Im sure I can find another variation of it where there are sauces.Despite the overall dissatisfaction for their ramen (3 stars), still giving it a 4 stars because of the service and buta kimchi and not having to go into Manhattan and wait 3 hours for ramen at Ippudo. I would still come here again and I would recommend it with certain caveats.

Comment: Really enjoyed my first bowl of ramen here over the weekend. They have a relatively large variety of ramen bowls and Ill definitely be back to try out other flavors. Be warned though that the black seasame garlic ramen is pretty strong and not for anyone with weak taste buds. Definitely try it out though.

Comment: My boyfriend and I go here quite often and we definitely enjoy the dishes we get. Most of the ramen dishes are very good. The broths are not watery and the toppings are great. Its a huge relief to have a place like this in AstoriaOn the other hand, there are a lot of minor things that annoy me:1. The nikkuman dish has gotten smaller. Theirs is a small 2x2 sandwhich and its just too expensive for $5. It is literally one bite.2. They need to make their own noodles.3. The seating at the bar is a bit uncomfortable.4. Their appetizers are sometimes awful (like the fried chicken they had a few months ago.)

Comment: All I can say is that I never knew Ramen could be this good. the place is a bit too informal for its price point, but the food is king here, and boy do they do a great job. Best Ramen place Ive been to in NYC. A great addition to the Astoria dining scene.

Comment: Love their hinomaru ramen. They have great gyoza, karaage, and in the summer they have these insanely good oysters
