Comment: Amazing traditional Japanese atmosphere. You have your own booth, you can call the servers in the kitchen with a special button if you need anything. Near the 1, 2, 3 and B, D F,, M, N, Q, R and W trains on the subway and the Port Authority Trans Hudson railway. And they are making a stand against tipping. Amazing place. Beware, there is a line to get in

Comment: Located on the bustling streets of NYC downtown, Ichiran promises an authentic journey into the heart of Japanese cuisine. As an avid enthusiast of ramen, I ventured into this cozy establishment with high expectations, and I was not disappointed.Upon entering, the ambiance immediately transports you to the lively streets of Tokyo. The decor is minimalist yet inviting, with traditional Japanese accents adorning the walls. The bustling sounds of the kitchen further enhance the authentic dining experience.I opted for the Tonkotsu Ramen, and it was nothing short of sublime. The broth was velvety and packed with umami goodness, while the noodles had the perfect chewiness to complement the dish. Topped with tender slices of chashu pork, and a medley of fresh vegetables, every spoonful was a culinary delight.Me being an Indian, I chose spice level 6 which was too much for me. So I will suggest to go for 3-4.

Comment: Fantastic! Ramen is all about two things. Broth and noodle. Ichiran locks both down. Tried vegetable ramen, and their signature. Both broths were excellent in a sense that is not too heavy and clean taste. Noodles tasted fresh as well. You order in front, wait for your table and all is done right in front. Took only a few min before the order comes out. Very fun individual setting experience just like ones in Japan. NO TIPS!

Comment: I come to NYC every year and was recommended by a friend to try this place as he had seen it online and wow! The pork was cooked to perfection, the noodles weren’t as soft as I liked them but that was totally my fault since it does give you the option on how you want your noodles cooked. Overall the food and flavoring was absolutely amazing and I cannot wait to come back again in my next coming trip.

Comment: Fantastic ramen! Ive been to the one in HK and this is just as good as I remember it. I got the tonkatsu ramen with everything as recommended. Broth had a lot of depth. I wish they charred the chashu but it was still delicious. I came on a Friday night and had to wait 40 min. The line started outside and the whole ordering and seating process was kind of a debacle, but the amazing ramen overshadows all of that. Highly recommended.

Comment: Cool dining experience and atmosphere. You order at the entrance and sit at an individual booth. You hand your ticket to someone behind the counter and youll get your order served to you .Ramen is very customizable. Can choose toppings, noodle doneness, broth richness and spiciness.Got the standard and the ramen broth had a very rich flavor with slight spice. Meat serving is not as generous as other ramen places, but flavor comes mostly from the broth.

Comment: A Must-go restaurant in New York to visit. I enjoyed the authentic food experience. Everything is easy to order. I loved being able to sit in an individual booth. The presentation was great! Some of the best ramen Ive tasted since visiting Japan. Easy to refill your noodle and drinks with a call button on the left countertop in your booth. I loved the boiled egg and plenty of scallions and seaweed to add to my ramen. I would highly recommend trying this place out!

Comment: I’ve eaten here a few times over the last ten years. I absolutely love their simple ordering experience. The single booths let you focus on the food and drink, and it makes for an experience without the long wait. But the pinnacle of the experience is that they only serve one type of Ramen, so it is flawless and rich in flavor every time. They have by far the best broth of any ramen I’ve ever had.The transition from paper forms to tablet pay stations is nice on busy nights since it helps expedite people in and out. The staff does an excellent job of managing the traffic both indoors and outdoors when the line gets long. They also have a great drink selection to go with the ramen. This is my number one NYC food recommendation to all of my friends when they ask.

Comment: Absolutely amazing Ramen! The line was not terribly long so my husband and I only had to wait about 5 minutes to get in. I ordered the Classic Tonkatsu Ramen with a boiled egg. The noodles were perfection - fresh, firm but not too firm. The broth is thick and tasty and the chashu is also lean and tender. My husband got the same but the combo recommended version. He said it was incredible - very good! Five star rating from him as well.

Comment: A must visit if you love good ramen and a different experience. I ordered the vegetarian ramen with seaweed, mushrooms and scallions. Taste and portion are on point. The wait was around 20 minutes. Once you enter you need to place your order through a kiosk and pay. You get to select the thickness, spice level (1-20) etc. if you like spicy Id recommend you order 7+.Once youre done, they seat you in booths. These folks are professionals in all aspects. Id highly recommend this place for the experience, food and the ambiance.

Comment: I get their regular bowl of ramen ($22) instead of the one with all the unnecessary toppings. Add on the soft boiled egg and try their matcha pudding. This is very good Tonkotsu ramen and somewhat comparable to what you would get at Ichiran in Japan, just way more expensive.

They have different choices of how well you would like your noodles cooked as well as the spice level. Definitely get the egg in the shell it’s a nice soft boiled adds the extra richness! 10/10 definitely worth the wait!

Comment: Ive been to a few ichiran while in Japan, and they are easily one of my favorite places to eat while there. I made a trip just to come try and see how this compares to the original, and I gotta say, the food is almost just as good. The only thing that was lacking for me was the pork, It was pretty overdone. (And the price is about 3x more than the original)Aside from the food, the service was completely different. Ichiran in japan, there is essentially no verbal communication, and inside its very quiet. Here its the near opposite. Its fine, just not the same.Overall, its a must try. Finally something gave me my ratatouille moment.

Comment: Easily one of the best bowls of Ramen in a city that has its fair share.Let’s start with the food. The broth is incredibly flavorful and rich. The toppings are all fresh and flavorful. Always get the egg and be prepared to peal it yourself. I get mine full spice (it delivers), with scallions, egg and chashu. It’s drop on the pricier side, and during peak hours there’s often a small wait, but worth it! Especially when consider the lack of much else of that level in that area of midtown.

Comment: Ive been to Ichiran a few times and always try to take someone new who hasnt had the experience. Well.....I did just that with a co-worker and we were welcomed by being instructed to order on a tablet. That is NOT an experience for eating Ramen at an authentic place. I was so confused, upset, and disappointed. My co-worker and I were frazzled because we thought we were going to sit and order at the booth (as I explained) but were instead treated like a McDonalds customer. I get that this may help with lines, but an establishment like this should not modernize food ordering. If thats the case, then get rid of the booths, and dont market authenticity in the food and the way its prepared nor how to eat it.Its all pointless if the first experience walking in is to use technology.Other than that, the food was great AS ALWAYS!

Comment: After a trip to Tokyo, I was craving rich tonkotsu ramen in the states. A trip to NYC hit the spot! I have seen this chain featured and see it gets sort of a love or hate reaction. I can say I loved it. I just went with standard bowls and no add ins to give the purity a test. While it was something like $22 a bowl and in Tokyo equally good if not better was around $7, it was worth it to me.

Comment: Overall rating: 4.4This place is so overhyped. I’ve been wanting to go here because I saw a LINE of people outside it a few years ago. I was very hopefully. I somehow went here with a friend and talking was very hard.I like the solo experience but it was very confusing on ordering, how to order, lack of information, paying etc. I wish there were clearer instructions on what to do for newbies. I love ramen, but bc of the lack of communication - I knew I had to finish it or waste it. I didn’t love that the eggs weren’t jammy.I’m not sure if I would recommend this place because I’ve been to SO MANY other better ramen spots. But it was decent & not terrible.

Comment: Trust the other 5 star reviews, not just mine. If you eat a lot of quality ramen I can’t speak to the quality of Ichiran, but all I know is that I can eat this multiple times a week. Chashu is tender, melt in your mouth. I ordered spicy red sauce not too spicy and it was perfect for someone like me who can’t handle a lot of heat. NUT FREE too! Filling and cozy, perfect for a chilly January afternoon lunch. Personally my partner and I didn’t have any trouble engaging with each other while we enjoyed our meal, even with the divider between us. It was also a great experience getting seated and served. Comment: If you want an experience to something similar to Japanese ramen and their solo booth this is the place to go. The customer service is definitely top notch and the atmosphere is amazing. The tonkotsu broth of the noodle and the flavor are so good it’s very close to Japanese ramen in Japan. Expect at least a 30-60+ minute wait if you are coming here as it gets crazy busy and it’s fairly pricey for Ramen but it is in NYC.

Comment: Interesting experience. Price a tad steep for a bowl of ramen. Had Ichiran in Tokyo and just wanted to see how this stack up to Tokyo. There was a line outside the store at 1pm Monday (peak lunch time). We waited outside for about 15 mins and then proceeded inside to the machine to order. We ordered 3 sets and came to $96 and change. (Should have walked over to Korean town at that point) ... and then back to waiting on another line inside. Then we were given a booth number to be seated.Never saw our server but heard his voice. Handed him our receipts and there he went to prepare our noodles. There is a water dispenser by the back wall. The set was served about 5 mins after we sat down... the broth is amazing and the noodles al dente. Perfect. My friends have to order extra noodles after (for another $3)Its a different dining experience.

You order in the front desk on a tablet, and then you pay for your meal and get seated. If you want to add anything extra (we did), theyll just charge you when youre seated. The ramen was amazing. Its by far the best ramen Ive ever had at a restaurant. The broth was delicious, the noodles were perfect, and it was a really big portion. I would definitely come back here next time Im in NY just to experience it again.

Comment: Amazing food, great experience. Fast service. A bit in the pricey side, but worth it! Must go if you come to NY. Small place, wait can be a while depending in what time you go. No tipping establishment.Premium Yakibuta and the classic are the best combo. The pudding for dessert is also a must!

Comment: The ramen was absolutely spot on! I got the tonkotsu with the recommended add-ons. The broth was silky, rich, and perfectly seasoned. The noodles are expertly made. All the toppings, including the chashu pork are perfectly prepared and delicious. I have not had the pleasure of eating ramen of this quality since LA (downtown little tokyo). Overall an excellent bowl of ramen! I cannot recommend it enough.

Comment: Hostess was very friendly and helpful. He answered all my questions. Price point is very high imo. Also peeling the egg was not easy, lost a lot of egg while trying to peel it. Ramen was tasty. Broth was super rich and the extra toppings was worth it. I’d maybe get this once a quarter.

Comment: Amazing ramen. Broth is great flavor especially once you stir in the spicy chili paste. I usually get the heat 6x spicy or more otherwise I don’t find it spicy enough. I love that you can customize the toppings and other levels. A bit pricy but very high quality. Also it’s great if you don’t want to have to chat with anyone and just want to sit alone.

Comment: I went to Ichiran multiple times in Japan and I fell in love instantly. The broth is amazing, and the customization is on point. As I came back from Japan, I was very excited to see that it is also in NYC. Yesterday I went to go try it and I have to say it was very good, but in comparison to how it is in Japan it is not the same. The broth seemed slightly off and not as good (it felt like it was missing something), and the pork belly was certainly different. The egg was also unimpressive compared to how they do it in Japan. Needless to say, this could all be blamed in regional differences in ingredients, which is understandable. However, the very upsetting part is the price they charge for it. Again, could be an issue with NYC, but the same order I get for $8 in Japan costs $31 in NYC. Additionally, the bowl is definitely smaller in NYC than in Japan. So overall, Ichiran is still amazing here in NYC, but unlike how I could get it all the time in Japan, I think its an occasional visit here. The price is upsetting, and it doesnt taste the same as it did in Japan. If you ever had it in Japan, you would understand what I mean, and why its hard to justify the price for a regular visit. But I certainly recommend for everyone to go out and try it as it is still one of the best ramen places here in NYC.

Comment: Tonkotsu ramen with a pedigree. I can definitely see this outlet as an extension of the Japanese flagship, and its great for solo eaters or eaters in a hurry.I also recommend the additional toppings set, as the fungus added a crunchy element that really popped in the rich ramen, and the egg was perfect.

Comment: Ichiran is a must-visit for ramen lovers! As soon as you walk in, you place your order before even sitting down. Once you’ve ordered, they’ll guide you to your own private booth, which is great for solo diners and groups alike. The staff are super respectful and welcoming, even though you don’t actually see them—the booths have covers in front. Now, let’s get to the good stuff—the ramen. I went for the traditional bowl with some extra toppings, and the broth was a knockout. Rich, spicy, and you get to choose your spice level from 1-10. For those curious, 2-3 offers a good kick and 4 cranks it up a notch but is totally manageable.Feeling extra hungry? No worries. You can easily order more by marking it down on a paper. This place gets a solid 5/5 from me—both the experience and the food are off the charts!

Comment: Now instead of ordering at your seat, you order at tablets at the entrance. Then the staff direct you to free seats available and once seated, theyll take your receipt and bring you whatever you ordered. I think you can also order additional items at your seat, as I saw ordering sheets hung on the side.Ramen here is kind of expensive at almost $20 for a bowl (includes charsiu but no egg). Their spicy seasoning isnt too bad, medium was okay for me. Just be sure to mix it well beforehand.

Comment: Love this place, everytime I visited New York, I want to eat hereThe wait always take a while as it quite popular, but I believe it worth itIt quite an experience and the food is deliciousthey also have a lot of customization with noodle firmness and soups saltiness and spicy levelsThe experienceThey explain every if you havent been before, butEveryone orders separately before being seat and if you are in a group they will attempt to set you next to each other if possible (depending on how crowded or if you are willing to wait)You present your receipt upon being seat through a little windowEvery seat is a little eating booth with a little window to receive your meal and do additional orders - this window doesnt allow you to see the servers face, this speaks to the restaurant as a No Tipping establishmentThe water is self-served with water dispenser behind youGreat experience and the food is a little pricey, but I believe that is to account for the No Tipping policy

Comment: We were handed menus outside to choose how we wanted our ramen. When we were told to go inside, we paid at the kiosk and were lead to our seats. It has the traditional seating that youd find in Japan. The broth was phenomenal and the noodles were a perfect texture. The toppings also paired nicely with it. My only take back was the price. Usually a bowl of ramen costs $14-$20, but I spent about $30 for everything in the picture. It was worth it, but wish theyd follow the prices that Japan has. Hardly interacted with the staff since there was a screen separating us from them, albeit this fact - they were friendly and quickly got us our food.

Today, I was around Midtown and decided to come to this location by myself, and it turned out to be a fun experience. It feels comfortable and private to sit at the single booth. There is a bell on the table that you can call staffs to help with, otherwise no one will bother you. The ramen is as good as the Brooklyn location. I just hope they can have more items on menu so I could come here more often for different food.

Comment: Tonkotsu Ramen - Bowl is deceptively small, but contain noodles cooked to your preferred texture. Broth is aromatic with some porky flavour and somewhat rich. The chashu were pretty soft. I found the flavour and portions kind of lacking for the price I paid though.Matcha Pudding - smooth, creamy and strong green tea flavour on top. With an even more concentrated green tea pudding on the bottom. Personally I found it too rich and creamy but for those who like Matcha, Id reccomend.Check out @bredgyeats for food pictures!

Enjoy your ramen in your own booth, call your server using a button, and order without even having to talk to anyone! What I got:- Classic Tonkatsu Ramen with Mild SpiceFinal thoughts:The space isnt completely silent as people still come in groups, but most solo diners can be seen wearing headphones or doing their own thing. The ramen itself I found had a very flavorful and rich broth. The hidden no tare (spice) that comes with the ramen is made of over 30 spices aged over several days so it added a nice kick. I did find that the noodles were still on the softer side even when I ordered them medium so Id get firm if you like your noodles with a bit of a bite.A good meal that met expectations even though it is now a chain with multiple locations.

Comment: IchiranThe solo booth ramen spot. Getting in around 5pm weekday was a quick check in. Theres a checklist of what to order and the employees serve you what you checked off. In black and white, you get what you order. Broth was so rich!! The meat was very tender and the noodles was the right amount of chewiness. The topping set with the noodles was the right amount. The side dish of meat, is basically the same topping on the ramen set. I thought it would be different but not so much. It was too much meat to finish. Overall, good spot to check with rich ramen. Water is behind the chairs with coat hangers under your table or behind as well.

Comment: ITS ONE OF THE TOP RAMENS OF NYC FOR A REASON!! Went straight at 12PM on a Wednesday and there was already a small line, so always be prepared to wait a little.I ordered: Classic Tonkotsu Ramen with Soft Boiled Egg ($22 + $3.5)Quite expensive but honestly worth the experience! They only have tonkotsu (pork bone broth) as its soup base but you can add a lot of variations (e.g richness, spice levels, noodle firmness, toppings). I got medium for everything (what they recommend) and it was perfect! The broth was so rich in flavor—savory and fatty from the pork and a little sweet with a slightly spicy kick—all without being too heavy. The noodles were cooked to al dente (in a ramen sense), yet was still springy. You seriously have to add the soft boiled egg too! The creamy, silky egg yolk was a perfect addition.Since the seating is only one-by-one I’d recommend to only go with one friend instead of a big group.

The medium spice was perfect…not overwhelming with just the right amount of spice to balance with the rich broth. Their is no tipping but still $36 without any drinks. Comment: It was a frigid Sunday, so naturally my stomach decided that ramen was the choice.I have been to a few of their locations back when I was in Japan (light flex for the day) and it was the best bowl of ramen Ive had. It became clear I had no choice but to make the long, treacherous excursion from Alphabet City to Midtown.I zip-up my down jacket and put the hood up. A heros journey. After an eventful 2.2 mile walk, I am greeted with a long line outside. Personally, I welcome a line as anything worth having is worth waiting. In line, an employee greeted me with a smile and a clipboard with a sheet of paper in which you mark what type of ramen you want and if you want any additions or subtractions. They have their house recommendations which is what I went with. You fill out the sheet and once you get in, an employee will direct you to an open seat. The seats are essentially individual little cubbies, think of the little dividers you would put up when you used to take tests in middle school. As an enthusiast of solo dining, Ichiran is OPTIMAL. I am currently working on a non-fiction novel titled Table for One in which I highlight all of the benefits of solo dining and how it will drastically improve your overall quality of life. Its important to be okay with spending time with yourself. Or maybe it will be a fiction novel, still deciding.Anyways, you hand the piece of paper to an employee behind the little bambo divider, and your ramen comes 7-10 minutes later.Ichiran recommends taking a few sips of the broth before diving in or mixing it up. I too, recommend this. The noodle texture was perfect, and the broth is neither light nor heavy, which to me is the perfect balance. Best Ramen in NYC I dont even care.I also am not a beer guy, but I got a beer. Im not really sure why. Cant stop the spirits when they need you I guess.

Comment: Ichiran is undoubtedly one of the best ramen places in NYC. The noodles and broth are delicious: the broth being the foundation of a good bowl of ramen, was rich, flavorful, and well-seasoned. The noodles were springy and chewy, with a firm texture that stands up to the broth. They were cooked al dente. My ramen was served with a variety of toppings, such as sliced pork belly, boiled eggs, nori (dried seaweed), bamboo shoots, scallions, and bean sprouts. These toppings were fresh, flavorful, and complement the broth and noodles. The atmosphere is unique as well, with each diner seated in a single cabin for a private dining experience. Its not exactly ideal for first dates, but its perfect if youre looking for a solo dining experience or simply want some peace and quiet with excellent ramen. One downside is that Ichiran doesnt offer rice noodles for those who are gluten intolerant or allergic. However, they do allow customers to bring their own noodles to put in the broth, which is a nice touch. To be clear, you have to bring them already cooked and time it right for it to work.Ichiran is a must-visit for anyone who loves ramen or is looking for a unique dining experience. The quality of the food and the atmosphere more than make up for any minor inconveniences. Make sure you come at least 30 min ahead of when youd want to be dining. The line/waiting times get out of hand.

Comment: I’ve been wanting to try their Ramen since I saw the lines outside - they also have a location in Japan just fyi - went at 4pm on a Thursday, no line, immaculate, solitary if you want to be, private comfortable single booths, limited menu which I appreciate, hot or iced matcha tea - overall delicious, flavorful, minimalist food and design, no pressure to leave either but of course you don’t want to overstay with lines outside. Really enjoyed the simplicity of this experience 10/10

Comment: This is def in my top ramen places. Even if you have to wait for a seat it’s worth it. Once you are seated- ordering and getting your food is fast and efficient. Be prepared to wait outside at peak times. We showed up at 1145 shortly after they opened and it took about 40min to get seated… I’m not complaining about waiting just making sure ppl are aware. Also there is a line - quite a few ppl think they can just walk in lolIn line they passed a clipboard you can use to select what your want to order which makes getting your food faster when you sit down. The upgraded chashu was worth it but it’s so much food- share if you can.The ramen itself was perfect. You can customize the firmness level. The combo of the noodles and the broth was excellent. It makes me want to go to Japan and try it there too.Service, food, and overall experience were excellent. Def found a new must eat place when we come to NYC.

Comment: I ordered the soup plus the recommended set. A whooping $31.5The soup is the best I have ever had. And I have eaten Ramen at a lot of other places in New York and New Jersey. This soup surpassed my expectations! They give you 4-5 pork slices and 1 full egg so it has enough protein. The pork is marinated and delicious. The portion size is sufficient for me.I arrived @ 11:50 AM on Thursday and there was almost no line.I reduce one star because the food took 30min to arrive even after being seated and because of the outrageous price tag.

Comment: NY branch, I actually expected more… I like that you don’t charge tips. I waited for 40 minutes and it was freezing. The food is all good except for one thing. When I ate ramen, I felt there was a foreign body in my mouth. I spit it out and saw a plastic sharp stuff. It should not happen, right? I could have given you 3 stars, but I gave 4 because of the food. I have been to the branch in Fukuoka 7 years ago and the experience was awesome. I hope the branches in NY could have the same high quality as those in Japan.

Comment: This place is so good!! A unique concept (for America), waited on line for 30 minutes. Busy place but once inside didnt feel rushed. The food and service is amazing and atmosphere so interesting (solo booths, but had no problem sitting next to my kid. I wouldnt go here on a date or business lunch unless you desired NOT to have in depth conversations with your accompanees). I really like the concept, and its supported by having darn good and delicious ramen. I got 10 on the spice level. I usually put ghost pepper on my food so I felt I couldve gone to 15 or higher with no problem, but if youre sensitive to spice, you can order mild and then order extra spice which is equivalent of it coming on the side.

Comment: Decent and fast, fresh noodle. It is convenient if you are living a come-n-go life or fast working pace. Or you can still enjoy your time with 4 + friends if you don’t mind not being able to sit face to face with each other.I would recommend try not be too ambitious with getting all the topping set if you r here for the first time. The most recommended and basic option was enough for me. You just gotta circle on the menu following the ‘presets’ upfront. Plus the premium Yakibuta, I became really full.Quality wise, if you have had some good ramen before, then I wouldn’t say to have high exceptions is a wise choice. Because of the fresh noodle, it by all means tastes better than most other ramen places. It is not amazingly good but also won’t be disappointed. There is some self-services to deal with, but we liked that and it didn’t bother us too much.I know someone from Japan, but they said they never had it during the 7/8 years there. To me, this place is more of a regular classic ramen place. I’m curious to try their instant noodle packs (sold in grocery stores)

Comment: This isnt your normal ramen joint.THIS is Ichiran. There are no tables in this place. What you get is your own private booth. You can sit next to your friends.BUT having your own isolated booth is definitely a game changer.Pros - 1. No awkward encounter with your server. 2. You dont have to care about how you look while you eat (for some people, this is utter freedom). 3. You really get to enjoy your food.Cons - 1. If you are extroverted like I am and enjoy eating while having actual conversations, this is not the place for you. 2. All you do is eat, and then youre out. Thats it.This is the only place I finish all of my broth. I absolutely love the quality of the noodles, and I cant believe how fresh they are. Food taste and quality are definitely top-notch. You must try this place if you have not.As for the environment, all was well, but I could not help to notice dust particles on the top portion of the booths (as shown in the pictures) as for a successful restaurant business, I would expect it to be cleaner.

Comment: I’ve been coming to Ichiran for years and unlike other places that offer many ramen choices. What’s great about Ichiran is that it has, one ramen choice. Where you can customize everything from the saltiness of the broth to the texture of the noodles to what toppings & additions you’d like to add to it. This is a great place to bring friends, get something to eat on the way home or a date. Beware though, because of its popularity, depending on the time and date you will be waiting for a spot to open up.

Comment: I love ramen and this place is number 2 for me. Their noodles, broth, environment are top notch. I got the vegetarian version. They have individual sitting only similar to what you find in Japan which is pretty cool. I wish they would turn off the air conditioning, it’s usually freezing in there which loses a star for me. Definitely try getting there 15 minutes before opening or 2-3 hours after opening if you don’t want to wait 45-60 mins in line.

Comment: You got to visit this place when it’s cold out. Part of the experience is waiting outside on 31st when it’s 30 degrees out for an hour on a Friday night. This is the average wait when the lines near the restaurant and across from the parking lot are filled. If you’re dining solo, let the gentleman know that checks on the lines. You’ll immediately jump the line because in a 46 booth restaurant, they fill them up with larger parties when they can but prioritize single diners. If you’re solo and want some traditional Japanese ramen, you’ll spend no more than 15 minutes waiting. Everything is ordered off of a single sheet of paper with tons of customizations. I recommend getting the toppings set, soft boiled egg, white rice and extra seaweed with a half order of noodles (kae-dama). You’ll leave satisfied, trust me. I also tried nearly all their drinks. The sparkling sake is a treat if you’re looking for something sweet. Overall, give this place a try if you’re visiting NYC and can’t make your way to Japan.

Comment: The line is long. An hour nearly. The food is not worth how long the line is IMO. I would only go here if I knew there wasnt going to be a line. The ramen itself is average. The broth is nice, the chasu is nice. They only serve one kind of ramen here with one kind of noodle - I prefer the thicker chewier kind which they dont have. You can customize of course by adding or subtracting various ingredients. Even with the no tip, if you add on drink and/or dessert youre looking at over $30.The experience is interesting, and if youre not able to get to Japan or if you just want the experience again then it might be worth a try just to see what its like. Once you get close to the front of the line theyll give you a sheet of paper where you can make your selections. Make sure that youre not picking extra things - it was a bit confusing because it wasnt clear that the ramen already comes with basic toppings - if you select anything additional you will be charged on top of that. This isnt really a place you should go with friends - you can sit together but youll be in a row. And each seat has a divider that separates you from the people next to you. You also have very little interaction with the staff. Your food appears from behind a curtain. Water will be behind you from a fountain/cooler. Hooks are on the wall behind you as well for coats/purses.

Comment: Waited for 15min or even 20, I was not happy sitting down. There are empty spots but the table set took forever - if anything the availability chart at the entrance just makes everyone angrier. The seats are pretty small; it’s different and unique but very small. However, when the noodle is served, none of that matters - it’s the best ramen I had for a long time. Being a ramen lover, I really know my ramen; I even make my own ramen at home… this place, they know their ramen! Absolutely amazing!- broth is thick but doesn’t taste unnatural- ramen is chewy but smooth- chasu is tasty but not too fattyI picked the less salty and no oil option - it’s great that they allow me to choose! One more thing to mention, their rice is $3.5 a small bowl but it’s amazing too! The flavor and texture is just right.Highly recommended!Ps, the place is not cheap - I spent $40 for myself with a ramen, rice, and matcha pudding.

Comment: 2022/10/16Tonkatsu Ramen - medium everything with egg 🔥Matcha Pudding 🔥Outside:Arrived 4:30 pm to one long line outside the restaurant. In line, youll be handed the menu to select broth, noodle, spice, topping, dessert, etc preferences.Inside:Single-file, numbered, individual private seating just like how it is in Japan (I think). You can still pass food around the barriers if you have a group but be careful as the ramen container can be heavy and hot. Water is self-serve. Once youre done with the ramen theres a metal dish you place on a sensor (or button) to tell the servers that youre ready for dessert/done.Food:My favorite tonkatsu ramen as of this posting. Comment: This was one of the best experiences of a restaurant that Ive had. I had to wait in line with my friend for 45 minutes outside. Were kind of a little hesitant with the line but we figured we had the time so we waited. It was more than worth the wait. The service was awesome and the food quality was the best ramen I ever had. They offer pretty much just the same type of ramen to everyone but customizations on examples of how firm you want the noodles, how Savory you want the broth how much garlic you want and more. I would never hesitate as someone from New York City or just visiting from going to this place. It is more than worth the wait and you will be very very satisfied after finishing your meal.

Comment: Had the best ramen of my life here. Every time I walk past here there is a line out the door, and both times I came we had to wait for thirty minutes. They offer a very unique dining experience. We were seated at individual cubicles (picture a library cubicle) and given a paper menu on which we could circle/check off the food we want. They have only have one type of ramen here, the classic tonkatsu ramen, although I believe they also have a vegetarian option. The ramen is highly customizable, you can choose level of saltiness, oiliness, spiciness, etc. You can also a variety of toppings like scallions, extra pork, seaweed, and so on.I ordered the classic tonkatsu ramen, the recommended toppings set, and the premium yakibuta. The yakibuta was super flavourful and tender. The ramen broth was tasty and the noodles were a good level of chewiness.

Comment: Ichiran has a really good balanced taste. Nothing stands out messing with the deep broth. The ramen is served at a great temperature and the display of ingredients very inviting. The concept of single booth is great and they have water machines your can serve yourself. No, no waiting around just for water. The option to add more noodles is really nice for those who have a larger appetite. Decently priced for such a good ramen. I removed 1 star because the hardness of our noodle wasn’t correct, it was a lot softer than it should. I still highly recommend this place as the broth and quality of ingredients is great.

Comment: I went to this fine establishment earlier today (June 21, 2022) and the line outside was not too bad. Before coming to this location, I went to the one on 42nd Street and they had an even longer line. It took about 15-20 minutes of waiting to get inside. I ordered the Classic Tonkotsu Ramen and it was delicious. I also got a Calpico drink (canned). They will hand you an order form outside while waiting in line. You can customize toppings for your specific ramen bowl. The spicy red sauce was not spicy at all (I personally like spicy food, so I got the second level, but your spice level may differ). The environment was very clean, individual booth style seating (where you give the server your order form). The food was excellent, albeit a bit more pricey/expensive since they are a no tipping restaurant. Around $30 for my order plus drink was not too bad, money well spent. After you finish, you take a card with your table number up to the cashier and pay that way (cash or card). I will definitely be coming back for more!

Comment: Im on a trip in New York this week and had to add in my ramen hunting experience. If youre in the search for something authentic and miss those small late night ramen shops in Japan.. Ichiran is the place for you!Youll notice the interior is a no nonsense decor, but highly functional. Private booths where the screens pulls up and mysteriously serve you reminds me of the ramen shops Ive been to in Tokyo. Booths are kind of small but cozy once you get settled in. Dont expect much conversation if youre in a group because side wall partitions separate each customer. Its perfect for the solo traveler.Ramen :5/5Tonkotsu broth ..very rich and savory. I got the noodles extra firm but would probably go one step lower to firm . The broth needed to be hotter to soften the extra firm noodles a bit. Egg, chasu, green onion were served separately..which was a nice touch. Noodles are not the curly kind you are used to seeing..they are straight. I love them and has become my fav kinda noodle recently. NoInterior : 4/5No nonsense ..private one person booths. Youll feel like youre in Japan. Nostalgic..props to the team maintaining that cozy vibe in New York. Kudos !Tip:If you usually still feel hungry after eating ramen ..order an extra serving of noodles( called kae-dama on the menu) . It got 1/2 kae-dama. You can press a button at the table to let them know youre ready for the 2nd noodle serving.

Comment: This has been a wonderful experience. The staff were incredibly courteous and friendly. They patiently answered my dumb questions and explained the process well. The food was absolutely rich in flavor and high in satisfaction.I would highly recommend coming here for a genuine ramen experience and it’s a great place to go by yourself or with a partner.

Comment: I have been to the ichiran in tokyo and the one here comes incredibly close to the original. i ordered their tonkotsu (pork bone broth) ramen with the recommended toppings (chashu, egg, seaweed, mushroom, scallion). they give you the option to customize almost everything about your order including: noodle texture, broth thickness, spice level, etc. they use the thin straight ramen noodles which pair perfectly with the thick broth (as it soaks up and holds the thick-flavored soup), and the texture was near perfect for me. the broth is very pork-forward in flavor and is very thick/filling (collagen filled). i’d highly recommend checking this place out as it stays pretty true to the ichiran found in japan; however, there is almost always a line outside, so i would come at a less busy hour.

Comment: Best Ramen broth in NYC! It’s an experience you don’t see your servers face it’s all through this window cubby situation. The point is to enjoy your soup with no distractions. You check off what you want and they have what’s popular there to make it easy, go for the package deal the egg mushrooms etc. your not supposed to tip, everyone is really friendly. This is a must in nyc!

Comment: This place serves just one dish. Ramen. Thats it. If you want to eat the best Ramen in town, then this is the place to go.The only problem is..a lot of other people want to go there too. Expect to stand in a long queue to get your seat. Most restaurants that we passed by were empty but when we reached Ichiran, we saw a long queue. We were in 2 minds whether we should endure the wait since the weather was super cold (0 degree Celsius and windy). We decided to endure the cold and I am glad we did.The Ramen was super delicious (perhaps the wait in the icy weather enhanced all the flavors). I ordered their bubbly sake that feels like Champagne. It was an unique dining experience with their solo tables and the food magically appearing through the curtain. For an unique Ramen dining experience, this is the place to go.My only quibble was that when we entered the place, there were many tables empty. I wondered why they kept us waiting in the freezing weather outside when we could have set in a cozy table waiting for the food.

Comment: One of the best ramen places I’ve been in the city. Definitely a no-frills kind of spot. Line outside was really long on a Sunday evening (probably waited about an hour). I expected it to be packed once we got in but the seating was practically empty. I assume that was due to a staffing shortage. Would definitely come back but perhaps not on a very cold day.

Comment: I thought this was a great experience! It was cute and fun! My boys also enjoyed it! We all had the pork based broth, which was yummy in our tummy!! The price is a bit on the high side, but really what isn’t in NYC…what matters is that it was good to eat and enjoyable to experience. I really enjoyed eating in my own little cubicle type section and someone just opening up the window and giving me my food!! I got up and got myself some water from the water machine. I did order the matcha pudding and that was sooo delicious. Not knowing how much food would come we ordered the extra side of noodles. Only myself and my husband ate that, the boys had enough with the portion that came in their soup. I came here on recommendation of a friend that had brought her daughter for her 16th birthday. I’m sure we will come back again, my kids already asked when we could go back. There was a wait when we went, I think we waited about 30 min, so mentally prepare for that. The wait was worth it though, no complaints here. The staff was also super friendly! Overall a 5 in my book!

Comment: I really enjoyed my time here, this was a new experience for sure. I wish we had more establishments like this all around the city — it really feels like a portal. The place is pretty popular so sometimes theres a long wait time to get in OR you can just walk straight in. Its a first come first serve type of situation.

Comment: A very unique Japanese style restaurant, with 50 individual slots for customers to sit and enjoy their ramen. When you enter the restaurant, they hand you the order menu based on your preference of protein or veggie. Once you sit at your counter and figure out your Ramen order, you call and get to talk to the server, standing on the other side of the wooden window. The Ramen itself is pretty delicious too. The breathe is excellent. The noodles is okay for me, as I prefer little bit softer ones. The $5 topping set is a good add-on, if you like extra ingredients in your Ramen. To me, the soft boiled egg was the best topping out of all.Because there’s NO TIP, prices of the items little bit higher than their competitors.Food taste - 5/5Food prep time - 5/5Service - 5/5 (No tipping)Price - $$$$

Comment: Place: Its small in the counter but pretty spacious in the dining hallway. Its also neat and gives you privacy, go here and youll know what I mean.Service: The service was so nice and straightforward. It was packed since its already lunch when we went so people already in line. We waited for 30mins and get a sit and served immediately.Long time no see/taste to one of my favorite ramen! It was so nice to sit and eat again in Ichiran. This restaurant in NYC reminds me so much of Ichiran in Tokyo and Naha. Theres some differences at some point like the bowl, chasu, the servings and the side dishes.Yet, am so glad cos the staff were most Japanese, the way how they serve was so similar in Japan so you will get the Japan vibes. So glad to taste it again!

Comment: The most delicious ramen have ever tried in my life, only have the seat for private seat, can help you enjoy the ramen your own. The soup of the ramen is super delicious, flavored but not feel oil, the egg and the pork belly is also maginificant. Will definitely come again next time to NY

Comment: Great ramen fast service. The individual cubicle type seating is new for me but I think it facilitates quick dining. My party of two didn’t even have a wait to get seated. The food was delicious. A bowl of ramen works out to about $24. This is a no tipping restaurant.

Comment: This is an experience. The dining experience is very anonymous. You never have to see your server and they never have to hear or see you. Its just like Spirited Away or Aggretsuko. Even the toilet paper is arranged in a Japanese-humorous way.The food is yummy. The tonkatsu soup base is very rich. The sheer quantity of food seems to making fun of American consumerism or corporate America. I fell for it. I took the free first noodle refill. This is the fullest Ive ever felt. Sake choices are nice. I really felt like I was at a Japanese noodle place for a fast lunch during my work break.Single stalled gendered bathrooms available with walls of toilet paper to choose from.

Comment: Have been to the ones in Tokyo many times and really wanted to try it here in NYC, especially when it is right next door to our hotel. No lines at 10am. Well, at double the price than Tokyo, it didnt taste twice as good, but it was still just as good, though the broth, very flavorful, might just be a bit thinner. The pork slices tasted a bit more porky, not as good (different pig source 🤔). Noodles were all dente, excellent!

Comment: Oh, my God! First time eating proper ramen. I loved the seating arrangement due to the fact that I was out there for business so I was by myself. The one person booths remove you from having to awkwardly look at other patrons. The food was delicious. The broth was steamy and full of flavor. I added the seaweed and the pork along with some powder and the end product was so good, it had me ordering seconds of noodles.

Comment: The broth was excellent 5/5 but the toppings was sub-par. The noodles were fresh and cooked to what I specified but it was less than normal. For what you get, I felt the ramen was over-prices and you can get better ramen at lower prices elsewhere in nyc. Still, the single person booth is an interesting experience.

Comment: The ramen broth was really good, but my friend and I both didn’t like the texture of the noodle. (We had firm and regular noodle). But I think it’s good to try out once for its unique personal sitting system.

Comment: This was my first time at Ichiran and it was pretty good! The seating is single booths only and there is only one ramen dish on the menu. It was easy to order and pick out what you want in your ramen. I know there’s several in Japan but I did not go to them while I was there. Biggest downside was the cost! I realize it was New York City but be prepared to pay at least $20 for one bowl of ramen without adding anything. I was spoiled by the cheap ramen in japan but I still recommend thus place if you want some authentic Japanese ramen!

Comment: This is the best ramen Ive eaten in the USA, hands down. Having been to Japan multiple times, I find myself comparing the quality. The atmosphere is also very Japanese with the solo booths, bowing staff, speaking japanese phrases. Even the entrance/exit is on the left-side. You get a paper menu to fill out what you want. It can be more on the expensive side but if youre looking for delicious ramen, this is it. The pre-fix has everything youd want for a meal including a delicious dessert.
