Comment: Very hidden location, super easy to miss. The fish is v fresh so I would recommend getting sashimi. Owners are very nice and accommodating.Perfect date night spot. If youre a sushi aficionado, this place isnt revolutionizing sushi, but thats not the point. It puts out a consistent, good product and serves their community.

Comment: A true hidden gem of a restaurant! We had seen it mentioned a few times online but we were still surprised by how good it was. The quality of their raw fish is top notch, on par with many of the very expensive omakase restaurants popping up all over the city but at a more affordable price. We had the octopus & cucumber vinaigrette, magritte duck with yuzu kosho, and sashimi plate (20 pieces). All were fantastic but the sashimi was by far the highlight for us.We had asked about the salmon & sea urchin salad but unfortunately they couldnt make it that night as they didnt have enough sea urchin (which at least attests to the freshness of their ingredients!).We also asked the waitress/owner what she recommended, but she seemed hesitant to mention anything other than karaage, black cod, and tamagoyaki despite having a menu with more unusual options than whats offered at most Japanese restaurants in Queens. To be fair, every table around us seemed to be ordering those things, so I guess their main customer base is not very adventurous and she didnt want to recommend something that we might end up not liking.Service was fairly attentive considering they seem to be a husband-wife team with no other staff, but I imagine it could get a bit chaotic during busy times. Theyre reservation only, but we called a couple of hours before opening time and had no issues getting a table for Friday evening. Bring cash to avoid paying a fee!

Comment: This place is definitely worth a visit and then some! I had been eyeing this place for a while, but never had them opportunity because COVID-19 got real, but luckily they opened soon after NYC started allowing dine-in at the end of last month, just in time for the first year anniversary for the wife and I! this place is the real deal when it comes to fresh authentic Japanese cuisine! the sashimi was so fresh that it melted in the mouth... the owner was kind and accommodating, as well as extra cautious during these troubled times. Im not sure you can find a better Japanese sushi place in Forest Hills or Queens for that matter!

Comment: An unexpected find in this part of Queens. The staff was very accommodating and made space for us to come with a baby stroller. We had the black cod, karage, and a selection of nigiri. Everything was delicious and the sushi was very fresh. Recommend the salmon and uni pieces. They also have a few Japanese craft beers - we had the matcha IPA and Yuzu ale, all delicious. Giving 4 stars mostly for the cleanliness around the bathroom area.

Comment: I had the best time here. It is a hole in the wall and I almost missed the entrance because it looked like it was closed, but if Google maps says youre in front of the restaurant, youre in the correct place. They are also reservation only.I had the black cod and a matcha beer (never had a matcha beer before, but it was really good!). Definitely want to come back to try their sushi.

This has been our favorite Japanese place for the last 10 years.Original Japanese with a special touch of Japanese condiments and fresh herbs that you can’t find anywhere. The secret is the couple’s (the Chef and the wife) love and pride for the food. You will feel it! Enjoy!

Comment: My partner and I have been to Japan a few times, and Katsuno is the real deal, some of the best Japanese food we’ve had stateside. We just celebrated our anniversary with a lovely omakase dinner from here. Everything was fresh, expertly prepared, and beautifully presented, even in a to-go format. Service is friendly and thoughtful. Strongly recommend.

Many restaurants are cutting back on quality food because of cost but Katsuno always delivers quality product. I ordered sashimi, tenzaru soba, and katsu for my anniversary this year and it was the comfort food needed to renergize me to get me through this pandemic.

Comment: Reservations only, dont bother walking in without one. The reason being is the experience of the meal not just the dining in part. BTW, no take out either. Its not allowed nor offered, if you must eat, then dine in is the only option. This is not meant to be snooty in any way. The pace of the meal and the attention they provide to each diner is part of the whole culture. It felt like I was eating in a friends home. Polite and friendly, yet still relaxing and warm. The food just added to the whole experience.

Comment: The one lady they have serving everyone wasnt as attentive as I would like, but the food is stellar. Tempura done to perfection: light, airy, and crisp. Sashimi tray was flawless with a Spanish mackerel that exceeds any previous encounters youve had with it, elsewhere. I NEED that sauce in my life.Extensive sake list finished off the experience, brilliantly.

Comment: Overall its good. Its authentic, good quality and a neat little shop. The downside is that its a little slower with service and not sure if the price point are reasonable at this area. Now for the good, they have great selection of Japanese import beer and also serve great dish aside from sushi. I had a pretty good hot duck noodle and tempura. If you in this area and dont want to head out to the city then give it a try.

Comment: Excellent food and a lovely vibe, welcoming and down-to-earth but also sophisticated in an understated way. My favorite entree is the black cod, and the tomato and asparagus salad is delicious and fresh. The sushi is on par with the best I’ve had in Manhattan. Everything Ive eaten has been good and beautifully presented. Each time Ive been, Ive had the same server, and shes wonderful. The clientele is a great cross-section of Queens and makes me love living here even more than I usually do. I recommend making a reservation -- it gets crowded, especially on weekends.

Comment: My wife introduced me to katsuno a few years back and we still keep it for special occasions. This time around we both got the black miso soup which was heavenly, and we shared the larger shashimi platter. The fish was great, my wife wasnt a fan of the Toro, which just meant more for me. We usually order some sort of sushi or sashimi but were interested in other newer looking menu items that we are excited to try on our next visit. Adding a picture of the exterior as it is kind of easy to walk past but definitely worth it once in.

Comment: My wife and I have been going to Katsuno since we moved to Forest Hills over a year ago. It is truly an authentic Japanese restaurant. Rather than select one or two items that we really enjoyed, all I wish to say is every time we go, the food is always most excellent. The quality and preparation of the food is always superb and we have worked though many items on the menu. It is a small restaurant and I would suggest you make a reservation. Oh, did I mention it has been recommended by Michelin several years in a row? No? Well, it has been recommended by Michelin several years in a row.
