Comment: Im skeptical of the big midtown power lunch spots. But Koi is very solid. In particular the crispy rice (with any of the offered fish) is simply the best. Koi is ideally enjoyed when expensed, but worth it even on your own dime, a rarity for the neighborhood.

Comment: It was a great experience. The place is definitely popular so I would definitely recommend a reservation. The only problem we had is that some how our reservation got lost. However, the manager came over and assured us that we would be taken care of. We had the next table available and she sent us complimentary edamame. The food was all DELICIOUS. It is all ‘family style’ sushi so it’s great to get a bunch of things so that you can share. We were able to try a variety of different dishes and all give our opinions. It was so good I wanted to keep eating but it definitely is a little pricier than what I normally pay for sushi so I restrained. Our server was excellent. He was very knowledgeable and had a great personality. Attended to us all night and the people helping him were also really nice too. Drinks took slightly longer than I would have liked but they were all hand made and delicious so it was easy to look past that. The bathroom is a little bit of a walk but it’s fine. I highly, highly recommend. It is a little bit pricey but definitely worth the money.

Comment: I went for my birthday dinner to Koi and it was phenomenal. Starting with the food, it was delicious and their sushi tasted very clean and almost buttery, a great consistency you look for in quality sushi. Second, the service was fantastic. Our waiter Kyle helped celebrate me and my girlfriend’s birthdays and also was very on top of everything. Great job Kyle! Lastly, the atmosphere was very aesthetically pleasing. The architecture and lighting really set the mood and it was lovely. I strongly recommend koi for some great Japanese cuisine!

Comment: Food and ambiance is always solid at this place. I needed to write a review because there is a waiter there, Demetrious, who is absolutely exceptional. As on top of things and as warm and cool as they come. Best waiter in New York. Its super rare to find hospitality folks like this anymore. Kudos on Koi for hiring him and theyd be smart to do anything to keep someone like that!

Comment: In traditional Koi fashion ~ an excellent dining experience! I flew in late to NYC from LA and wanted something familiar. The room was amazing and very lively on a Thursday night. There was no regular bar but it was in the Bryant Park hotel so there was another lounge area adjoining but not part of Koi. There was an elevated Sushi bar though and that’s where I sat. So, as with other reviews, I always make sure to mention that reviews are based on multiple elements. The room, the food and the service. I give it five stars because the sushi was amazing, the room was amazing, and the service was excellent. I also ordered a To Go order as well and even after walking 20 min back to the apartment in 40 degrees it was still excellent!I had a Northern Lights roll, spicy tuna hand roll (fresh clean tuna - unlike other places that use garbage for the spicy tuna), sushito peppers, edamame, (to go): crispy rice with spicy tuna and salmon sushi. All was fresh and delish!!A great on the fly option when I wanted to be sure I got really good sushi in a nice room with great service 👍👍👍

Comment: The prices are high but very reasonable considering the prime location. The food is quite good, though not very adventurous. Excellent service and excellent ambience. The waiters were attentive and gave beautiful service throughout the meal. The salmon carpaccio was very good; all the fish was delicious and fresh. The crispy rice was not crispy and there was an odd emphasis on black truffle through the menu. The lychee martini needed to be double-strained. The tuna was lovely in all the dishes we had.

Comment: Great staff and one of the cooler more modern interiors Ive been in in Manhattan. The seafood and drinks were amazing. Only complaint was that the skirt steak entree was not good. It was cut into strips and each strip was cooked different, some rare, some well done, some with burnt ends. Stick to surf, not turf, and you should be golden. As a caveat, we didnt send the skirt back as we had a show to catch and couldnt afford the time sink that entails.

Comment: Knocked a star off only because the sushi was pretty average, good but not worth the crazy prices. What really stood out though was the service… I haven’t had this great of customer service at a NYC restaurant in a while. Genesis, our server, was excellent and really went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. My friend ended up not feeling well and instead of Genesis grabbing her something simple like a club soda, he came back with this yummy cucumber-lemon drink to help calm her stomach. I’d return just for the service!!

Comment: I’ve come here consistently for years and have taken friends and colleagues here. This is a great place for dinner, should it be corporate dinner or an intimate one. Great interior, good service, and amazing food and drinks. Crunchy rice is a must but all other food options are really good too. The only thing I do not super like, which might be a personal preference, is the mushroom dumplings which tastes like ravioli but I guess a bit weird for a Japanese restaurant- again, personal preference. Lychee martini is very good if you like a sweet cocktail.

Comment: I rarely ever leave reviews but the food and service at this restaurant was exceptional. Staff was polite, knowledgable about their food and drink options, and extremely attentive. They were always there to fill your water or check on you just enough without being annoying. I had the skirt stake and shitake fried rice along with a shrimp tempura roll. The skirt stake was perfectly cooked to my liking and had amazing flavor. If you are looking for Japanese in Manhattan give this place a shot, you will not regret it.

Comment: Excellent food, might seem a little steep but the high quality of food makes it acceptable. The sides are particularly good, I had the green beans and the potato purée, both really really good, especially the purée (am being French I know all the work that goes into a tasty purée). They also have dishes to share, a good concept when you are several people.Special mention for the lychee mocktail they made me. The best mocktail I had in a long time. I will be back!

Comment: Excellent service and staff. It is a quite large, full service restaurant with a beautiful and calming upscale decor. We shared a variety of sushi selections not expecting the portions to be so generous! We were visiting NYC during a summer heat wave and discovered this place located right across from Bryant Park. They didn’t mind our casual dress at all but this would be a fabulous place for a dress up date night or a large group. Their menu boasts a great selection of familiar Asian cuisine along with their signature dishes.

Comment: This place is super busy! And for good reason. The atmosphere is nice and classy, with moody lighting, a darker color palette overall and interesting interior design elements. Since it is a Japanese restaurant, of course I had to give the sushi a try. Their special rolls were indeed so special, very fresh and even despite one of the rolls having truffle as an ingredient, it wasn’t too overdone and all the flavors went well together. The lamb chops were sublime and cooked to perfection, and the mash too was also so good. Everything was seasoned just right, not too salty, or too sweet, just perfect. We did also order the mochi ice cream for desert (no pictured) and i would definitely recommend the lychee and passionfruit, nice bright flavors to round out a good meal. Would recommend if you’re looking for a treat.

Comment: This place is so phenomenal. I loved the decorations inside and I was lucky enough to get my entire group into a booth seating that overlooked the view of the park and had access to the bar as well. The waitress was really attentive but I could tell that she was really busy and the entire place was really popping for the whole night. I think the decorations are really what made it but the food was really good and I highly recommend the blue crab California roll. The dessert was phenomenal as well as we got the chocolate lava cake and the mochi ice cream but the mochi ice cream could’ve been from Trader Joe’s or some thing so next time I go I’ll try a different kind of homemade dessert. Overall I had such a good time and it was a great location and all of my group members had a blast.

Comment: Very good.. food was good.. great atmosphere... service was fantastic.. price was a bit nuts.. but its restaurant in a hotel.. all restaurants in a hotel are crazy priced. Sea bass was very tasty. Rack of lamb was really good . Did not taste like lamb. And there was so much. Rolls were very good. But $72.. for 4 martinis . Come on..I should of gotten blown with the 2nd drink.. but hey.. its Christmas and its NY... no place like it.

We had three more dishes by the time we were done.Wait staff is first rate and the quality is unmatched. Bottle of filter saki. Bring your CC - was not cheap.

Comment: Cool and dark place to get in out of the heat across from Bryant Park on West 40th . Came in just for a drink and appetizer.I had a Yuzu flavored cocktail with rum that I think was a twist on a Caiparinha or Mojito. And I got the Creamy Shrimp Tempura ( I asked for the sauce on the side though, otherwise it would have been tossed in a spicy aioli type sauce, it was ok on the side but Id ask for ketchup next time. ) They give you chopsticks but no forks or anything. Food and drinks were tasty .

Comment: I am an absolute lover of sushi, possibly the single best dish out there. Koi has great sushi but it’s very expensive for what most of it is. Our party had to wait and we got some complimentary edamame which was super nice. Only the top had salt and was very salty and by the bottom it was bland. We started off with the crispy rice which ran $22 for 4 pieces. I kind of expected more for the price but i guess that’s fine dining for you. It’s quite literally what it sounds like, crispy rice on the bottom (kind of a rice cake) with your choice of fish on top but the fish has the consistency of canned tuna. Don’t get me wrong it was very good and I loved it, I would just avoid solely on a price-food ratio.3 people (me included) split a lights out roll, philadelphia roll, and a eel and avocado roll. Each roll comes with 8 pieces no matter the price point. The philadelphia roll is a cream cheesy roll if you like that. Quite literally a philly roll you can get at any grocery store for $6 instead of like 13. The eel and avocado roll surprised me in a great way. It ate like butter with how soft it was and had amazing flavor. You could actually taste the eel which I thought was amazing because i’m never able to. Definitely recommend it if looking for a cheaper good roll. Now to the lights out roll, which carried a 32 dollar price tag. I think it was a very good roll I just wish it was more for the price. You get amazing ingredients like actual crab (not krab), truffle, salmon tartare, but it’s still like $4 a bite which hurts my wallet. It had an extremely unique taste and flavor combo and was definitely a top roll i’ve tried ever. I’d go light with the soy sauce especially on this one and let the roll talk for itself.Would I go again? Probably not unless i’m a millionaire as I feel new york has to have a better sushi restaurant for the price. I personally would recommend a cheaper place and just enjoy the only thing better than sushi, more sushi!!! If you’re looking for a fancy date or impressive business outing though, this is the place for you.

Comment: If you like Zuma and Nobu then you going to like this place. It is upscale Japanese restaurant. Do be 100% fair its a bit lower on this scale, but also its cheaper so it is fair game. But thats only in field of appetizers. They rolls and main course are real bangers! We ordered Northern Light, Baked Snow Crab and double Tuna rolls. Within minutes we ordered another round of Northern Light and Baked Crab rolls. Also they Glazed Cod is simply delicious!

Comment: High quality and well presented food, but the prices are toppy. There’s a solid fusion blend that’s sushi/fish-led. Combinations are imaginative and presentation is good. The dining room however is very noisy. Early evening the bustle is at its height and then it’s time to scream loudly in the fashionable gloom. From about 9pm it thins out and seats at the front (either the window seats or the cosy banquettes) are civilised for chatting.Staff are friendly enough but not exceptional, and seem to be targeted on selling ‘just one more course’. Bit unnecessary and annoying. That said we’ve eaten here a couple of times, and were it 20% less expensive and 20% less noisy this would be a top, regular destination, rather than a hotel-stay convenience.

Comment: The decor is lovely, and the atmosphere is soothing. The service is top notch, and the drinks are delicious. Only reason I gave four stars is because I believe the sushi, while delectable, was not worth the price paid. I could get the same sushi for a lower price elsewhere in the city.I will recommend whichever drink had the blood orange in it - so good!

Comment: Not the best sushi restaurant Ive ever been to, nor the cheapest, however, the food was nice and the staff very friendly. The Koi has quite a noisy atmosphere, so perhaps not the best place for a romantic meal, but if youre with friends or colleagues youll just have to raise your voice a little to be heard. Overall, I had a good night out, and so did the co-workers I was dining with.

Comment: OMG!! One of the freshest fish I have tried. Everything about this place was fancy, but everything had great flavor.. all of the servers were very attentive and any dirty dish was picked up immediately. Your cup of fresh water would never go under half way. My favorite set of sushi was the sweet shrimp.. I have never tried such a texture from a sweet shrimp. I was bummed out when the sushi chef said they didnt serve the shrimp head since a lot of customers would not eat it. But I strongly believe it adds the cherry on top. Over all, I enjoyed my visit and the sushi chef mentioned there was one in L.A. so I will be sure to add a review to that one.. I hope it holds up to NY.

Comment: We came here on a Tuesday evening for a birthday celebration. Having been here before, we knew more or less what to expect. What we found was really attentive and informative service from the staff and great food well presented! One of us had the double tuna spicy roll - delicious if not a lot of tuna. Another had a regular spicy tuna roll and a red snapper hand roll. Both were delicious. The only drawback for us was the noise level, tables on all sides were quite boisterous and we were under a relatively low ceiling, which made hearing difficult.

Comment: Staying at the Bryant Park Hotel and came downstairs to get a bite for lunch. Im not a sushi person so I ordered the field greens salad. Overall just a pile of greens with a couple of tomatoes and cucumbers. The dressing was good though. Added chicken to it which was about 1/4 a chicken and had really good skin. To add the chicken was $21 so in total $42 for a field greens salad seems high. Im sure the sushi is great though if that is what you are looking for.

Comment: Upscale is used a lot to describe this place and I am normally weary of places that are attached to hotels. But this place is fantastic. The food is upscale, the decor is upscale, but the clientele is a nice mix of people with a surprising lack of douche-bagery.Our server was new and made a mistake or two, but nothing crazy and she was lovely and truly apologetic. Very nice to see.The food was exceptional. Very good quality fish. And I am very picky about my sushi. The crispy rice with spicy tuna was excellent, as were the short ribs. The Kobe gyoza and double tuna roll were also good.If there are two of you, go for two shareable and a main each and you’ll be full and content.

Comment: Best sushi I’ve had to date in the city. Sit by the sushi bar if you can – it’s the best seat in the house if you’re into food. Amazing to watch them preparing the dishes. You have to start with their crispy rice - a small almost-rectangular mound of rice, topped with spicy tuna and a jalapeno slice. I’d read this was a must try, and after having done so myself, I can say it’s definitely not just all hype. I had several different sushi orders, ironically my favorite being their white tuna (which I’d never tried before). Also had the dragon roll from their signature roll listing, which was shrimp tempura, eel, and baked crab. This was a nice addition because it wasn’t rolled in the same rice as the other rolls, so it added some variety. We also had the spicy tuna, which was very good. On the spicier side (note: I’m not complaining – thumbs up). The yellowtail and scallion was very fresh, though I’d say of the rolls it was the least unique one we had. To finish off, the molten chocolate cake is where it’s at, accompanied by vanilla ice cream and a chocolate sauce. The chocolate wasn’t too bitter or too sweet, and the cake was just the right degree of liquid. The drink menu is also not to be missed. I had one drink that paired Hendrick’s gin with St. Germain. It was quite good, though I preferred the White Martini, which was Absolut Acai Berry, white cranberry juice, Triple Sec, and lime juice. There wasn’t a part of this meal I can complain about. The service was attentive and the sushi was fresh and flavorful.
