Comment: Today I went to Koiso Japanese Restaurant with my dad for lunch. I ordered the sushi set which had 5 pieces of sushi, tuna rolls, and a miso soup. I also got the white tuna sushi. The atmosphere and service were amazing and the sushi quality is one of the best I’ve ever had so far in the US. The food is quite affordable, the sushi set only cost 12 dollars. So I definitely recommend coming here to try the amazing food if you’re ever in Long Island!

Comment: This place is one of favorites now!! I’ve been there twice with family and the hot dishes and sushi are spot on. It’s owned by a Japanese person so I’m not surprised- authentic food 101%! The sushi is nicely made without too much rice. The appetizers and rolls are well worth it if they’re on the happy hour menu ($5 weekdays from 4-6:30pm I believe). We had gyoza, takoyaki, and chicken karaage. We also ordered 5 rolls off the HH menu. Their scallion bacon noodles are also delicious. Honestly just eat here/ you won’t go wrong!

Comment: The katsu curry is delicious! The spicy roll combo was not worth it, you can’t taste the tuna, can’t taste the yellowtail, can’t taste the salmon. Their wasabi taste like nothing. And their ice cream, 2 balls for $5?! Too expensive. Also their katsu curry price went up.

Comment: Try the Taco style roll!Wife and I went stopped in because we were in the area. We had never been before. This is a traditional style, family run restaurant. It seems to have a local following and the reason is because the food is great and the rolls stand up to the rolls I had when I was in Japan. I ordered some avocado and cucumber rolls, my wife had a shrimp tempura roll and chicken teriyaki, all delicious. I saw on the menu something called taco style and figured Id order one even though I wasnt sure what it was. Well, it was awesome. Its basically a re-styled roll. Tempura fried nori, shaped into a taco shell shape and filled with the rice and whatever else is in your roll. I had an avocado cucumber, so it was filled with rice, avocado and cucumber. It was great, I ate it with my hands like a taco. Definitely try one. The chef came out and asked how everything was, which was a great personal touch. If we are in the neighborhood we will surely go back

It tastes fine, theres just a lot of it. Eel is very good.My sister had ramen, mom had sushi platter, no complaints from any of them. The shrimp tempura only had 2 pieces of shrimp, but its got a bunch of vegetable tempura, so dont order both.

Comment: I grew up in Carle Place, but never ended up eating at Koiso until recently, maybe because the store front is so subtle, or that Japanese food was not typical in my family. I will say though that this is a truly authentic family Japanese restaurant, with both the best quality sushi I have had in New York as well as elegant and friendly service. You do not need to go to the city to enjoy fantastic Japanese food, it is here. The toro is superlative. They are also happy to serve customers until late (10pm), which is not common for the area. Comment: Koiso is a hidden gem of Japanese food in our little town of Carle place. Its run by a husband and wife - hes the sushi chef and shes front of house. The sushi is ahead fresh and the rice is a nice temperature and seasoned well. Hes a little heavy with wasabi on his sushi - not a bad thing - but be prepared. They also serve some nice non sushi dishes - I had a meeting eggplant and crab cake dish recently. Ive been here a few times and will continue to go back. Since its a mom and pop operation just be ready for service that might be on the slower side, but the food is worth it to me.

The people who work here are very casual and comfortable, and it appears to be an older couple that runs the whole operation. Parking is a bit of a pain, but not too much to keep us from coming. This is because the food taste BEST when they are not busy.During the Fridays and weekends, they are so busy that you cant help but feel sorry for them. The food doesnt taste as good either.So come when they are not as busy and order an $50-$100 omakase from the kitchen and sushi. Their fish soup and clam soup are full of flavor. We went on a Thursday night and the special appetizer was crab cakes. There are no words for these crab cakes. They contain no breading, mayo or egg so I have no idea how they held together but both my daughter and her boyfriend ate the entire plate before I got 2 bites! Sushi and sashimi were just fantastic. Comment: We were visiting and had a wonderful experience here.The waitress was very friendly and understanding of our requests (one of our travelling member was a vegetarian).When available, definitely give the sardine sushi a go :)Very happy to have found this place.

Comment: Quaint atmosphere, wonderful Japanese food. Owner and sushi chef make this place come alive. Many Japanese diners the night I was there....REALLY good sign!

Comment: The restaurant is on the smaller side. There are some traditional tables where you sit cross legged on flat pillows. They have regular seating as well. The decor is a bit dated. The sushi, sashimi, rolls and service were excellent and we were there on a Tuesday. The cuts of sushi were a bit on the smaller side but the price was fair for NY. It looks like it is owned and operated by a Japanese couple.
