Comment: My wife and I have been coming here for almost 2 years now, so this review is long overdue. Weve had 7 of their seasonal menus, some multiple times, and each one has been incredible. The ingredients are always fresh, and each dish is always so creative and thoughtfully crafted to match the season. The current head chef, Chef Wayne, and front of house/pastry chef JoJo are always friendly and attentive. Finally had a chance to try their patio menu and it was spectacular! The highlights are definitely the Koyo Bowl, and the creme brulee cheese cake. And of course no meal is complete without the Uni Toro Toast. Other places make their own versions, but none come close to this one.

Comment: I came here for my birthday. The omakase was great, then right before the dessert, the waiter asked my mom and I to leave from our countertop seating for the omakase per person and move to another table, because the 7pm reservation was there. These words are true. Regardless of whom the reservation is under, It is unprofessional to ask a customer to leave their table and finish their meal elsewhere.

Comment: My girlfriend and I visited Koyo for Valentines day, and we got to enjoy the winter menu. Each bite was both beautiful and delicious, and the service was lovely. We enjoyed a sweet dessert and left with a rose. Definitely try some sake, if you can—their selection is great! Im very grateful for the experience.

Comment: Some of the most fresh and creative dishes you can get at a low key place. I almost wish I could keep it a secret to myself, but Ive told many people about this spot and it never disappoints! The staff are incredibly accommodating and during our meal I think I found one of my favorite beers at their recommendation! Cant wait to come back soon!

Comment: Great experience! Was a little skeptical before visiting, didn’t expect a great sushi restaurant in such a local neighborhood. But wooow definitely worth the price. Super fresh fish and uni (who doesn’t love uni) and you can tell the chef put a lot of effort into the manual. Chef Wayne was super nice too and you can ask him a lot of questions about the food and thoughts behind it. Will visit again!

Comment: Excellent experience. Did the sushi omakase. Wayne was a great chef. We loved how he honored the fish, accenting each one with creative flavors but not overwhelming them. There were no crazy toppings- just pure, fresh and minimal. Kind service as well. Will probably go back to try the kaiseki.

Comment: Long overdue and finally dined in and it was a fine experience. Enjoyed most of the 1st courses thoroughly. The Sakizuke was a grand way to start things off. The Gohan course didnt really do much for me. Nigiri portion of the meal was fine. King Salmon and the Uni were particular stand outs. May have to pass by for the Fall menu.

Comment: Wow, what a fantastic dining experience. Koyo very quickly made its way to the top of my omakase list. Food was impeccable–you can really taste the high quality ingredients (even the uji matcha from Hokkaido was amazing.) Some highlights: the wagyu (of course), the ceviche-esque fish dish (sigh, wish I got the names better), and a couple nigiris. Everything was so well done. We also got two bottles of the recommended sake pairing. Speaking of recommended, service was fantastic! Our server and the chefs were super knowledgeable and friendly. A really remarkable dinner! Definitely coming back for another special occasion.

Comment: I picked up an order of the the Maguro Flight omakase for $60 which consisted of 2 very small pcs each Akami, Chutoro, Otoro sushi. Plus 2 oz miso soup, crab salad appetizer, tiny tuna maki with very little tuna, cubed ginger (should be thinly sliced), wasabi, vinegar sauce. Plus $14 tiny Hokkaido Uni (could barely see the Uni) + $9 tiny Shima Aji. Total came out to around $96 with tax. The food quality was excellent. However, the sushi was super teeny tiny compared to other sushi places so not bang for the buck. I would be willing to pay $80 tops, no more. TY.

Comment: Omakase for $150 includes 12-16 courses. Koyo rotates their menu seasonally to incorporate new dishes and fresh catch from different regions in Japan. This menu is more creative than your average omakase, constantly trying new combinations and textures and somehow everything hits. Definitely a personal favorite

Comment: My boyfriend and I splurged for NYE and made a reservation at the chef’s counter. Honestly wow, everything was impeccable. We’ve had several other high end omakase experiences and Koyo tops the list. The staff was unbelievably kind and helpful. Our server curated fantastic sake pairings for us, letting us taste different ones and then deciding on the order in which to serve them. Best sakes we’ve ever had. The chefs were so nice and chatted with us as we asked all sorts of questions. The food was absolutely exquisite, the preparation and presentation was so detailed and created with love. The ingredients were fresh and delicious. We really can’t wait for the next special occasion to return.P.S. Highly recommend sitting at the chef’s counter, the experience of watching the chefs do their thing is well worth it.

Comment: Hands down the best omakase experience I’ve had in NYC. The sushi counter experience was fantastic, the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcomed and comfortable. Watching the chefs at work was a thing of beauty and the fish was out of this world. Every bite and second you get to enjoy each of the many items presented to you was absolute perfection. We’ll worth the cost, if you’re a fan a top not sushi you have to try Koyo.

Comment: I enjoyed the sushi, but the pacing of the meal was way too slow at the beginning. Our reservation was at 7:30 but we didn’t get our first bite until 8:00 and each kaiseki piece in the beginning took a long time. The pacing during and after the nigiri was a lot better. All the items were quite tasty. The highlights for me were the sakizuke, smoked anago, the tuna nigiris, and the dessert.

Comment: Shared an exquisite meal here with some friends, it felt like we went on a vacation for 3 hours. The attention to detail for the entire omakase summer menu was impressive (for example the chef used tweezers to pick out the right micro green), the host was infallibly polite and knowledgable, and the food was perfection. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys sushi.

Comment: One of the best dining experiences of my life, and right here in Astoria! The Kaiseke chef’s tasting was an amazing and inspiring tour of flavors and textures - every course was delicious and special, but stand outs include the cured sea snail, otoro with black truffle, and the steamed egg custard with caviar. The ambiance is beautiful, simple, and quiet. The chefs are super friendly and will generously tell you all about each dish. Definitely a destination restaurant for anyone in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Long Island, or Westchester. What a treat for us local Astorians! Beyond highly recommended.

Comment: I LOVE KOYO. I love fine dining and this place deserves a Michelin star. The ambiance is great, relaxing. The service is superb. The food is absolutely amazing and so innovative. I love everything about Koyo and its such a nice treat especially during these dark times. Koyo is a neighborhood staple and it is Astorias own little fine dining nook. Ive been there 4 times since the pandemic began and ordered take out 3 times as well. Take out is just as good. Obviously, you dont get the full experience with them explaining what the dishes are and what drinks pair best with them - but ordering take out is a great alternative if you cant or dont want to make it out. With that being said, I have to get them kudos for everything theyve done to make dining safe and as warm as possible for people. Heres the deal, you know its 20 - 30 degrees outside and youre accepting to dine out...you know its cold. These businesses can only do so much to keep things as warm as possible for guests and at the same time keeping it COVID safe AND keeping it from being a fire hazard. I think it is completely absurd for people to complain to the restaurant about how cold it is when you know 1. its winter and 2. the restaurant is doing the best they can. If you think its too cold then you shouldve layered up. Do not expect for restaurants to be as warm as it is in your home. These are trying times and as New Yorkers we need to support each other and our local businesses. People are trying to provide the best food and service possible and YOU complaining about how cold it is isnt helping. Stay home if you think its too cold or invest in some merino wool socks and gloves and then go out. Were in this together. Thank you Koyo for the quality of the food and keep it up!

Comment: Made reservations for dinner at the patio was worried it would be cold but they had heat lamps and a small fire pit nearby. It was nice to be in the back of the restaurant away from the street. Service was great and food was delicious. Would definitely preferred on counter but it was still a nice dining experience. Will come back again for the counter experience. Highly recommended if you have money to splurge with your special someone.

Comment: Koyo is well worth the price, some of the best omakase in the city! We sat along the chefs table area, as opposed to at tables in the dining room, and I highly recommend that experience. Each dish was fantastic, and you can really tell the amount of effort and thought put into the flavors and techniques to present them. An extra special shout out to Gary, he was awesome and just a joy to talk to!Everything is seasonal so while you may end up with different dishes than the ones Ive posted pictures of, I hope theyll showcase some of the presentation and quality of the dishes.P.S. the black sesame gelato is an incredible dish and a house speciality; best of luck that youll get this well.

Comment: Had such a lovely dinner experience tonight at Koyo. It was a Thursday evening at 5:30 (theres another dinner service at 8pm) and aside from one solo man at the bar, we were the only other patrons. We decided to sit at a table for more privacy. Service was amazing, very attentive and knowledgeable - shout out to Gary! He even gave us a complimentary glass of sake. We thoroughly enjoyed our sushi omakase from start to finish. There was an optional uni add-on and Im glad we did because it was my favorite. I was too busy enjoying so didnt take many photos, only one of dessert. Koyo was one of our favorite omakase experiences here in NYC, definitely recommend you make it out to Astoria to try.
