Comment: Here goes another one of my favorite spots to have my ramen & Japanese fix in the Astoria area. The Mochiron (chicken broth w/ torched porks, egg, bamboo shoot, scallion & nori seaweed) for the cold winter days is always a must for me and my family, the food is always fresh, flavorful, crispy and comforting. Service is always great and so is the vibe of this Japanese style restaurant.Some of the food that I have tried from here & that I enjoyed are the karaage, yaki gyoza, grilled squid, chashu bun, crab salad & chicken mayo don.During the summer they have a small backyard which is nice to enjoy a warm day with good food and good company.

I really misjudged my first impression.The food is actually very tasty, all their Dons meals, fried stuff, are simply the best and done exactly right.Special mentions to the Snow Chicken Don, with the extra grilled/torched onion and mayo on the top. And the home made cucumber pickles, those are addictive.With a couple of Sojus, this is a real good place to have fun.[Original 2019]The food is good, but I didnt get this Wahou effect.

Comment: Authentic feeling Japanese ramen spot. I always get the mochiron ramen because it’s hearty and the broth is very creamy. The vegetarian ramen with tofu was also well received but of course it’s hard to have as much flavor as ones with chicken broth.Service is always good and the restaurant has a nice ambiance.The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I wasn’t blown away by the starter dishes. The pork bun was a bit heavy on the sauce and the takoyaki texture was a bit chewy.I would definitely return for more ramen!

Comment: I can’t say enough good things about Mochiron.It’s become a weekly haunt for me and my girlfriend.The restaurant itself is immaculate and has great character - anime figurines and other Japanese paraphernalia abound. It’s immaculate inside and provides a very cozy atmosphere for lunch or dinner. It is a great date spot!The food is superb, authentic, and reasonably priced. There’s also a great diversity to the menu. No matter what your diet requirements or cravings, you can find something to enjoy here. Healthy, soul food, seafood and vegetarian options fill the menu.Best of all, the staff really tie the experience together. You have a clearly dedicated chef/owner and a happy staff interested in making your experience the best it can be.The Karaage, Ramen, and Katsu Curry are personal favorites. They’re complemented perfectly by a nice Asahi from the tap.If you haven’t visited, do yourself the favor of remedying that immediately. It will quickly become a regular spot.

The backyard outdoor seating area is very cute with lanterns and heated lamps. Although it was still a little chilly, its the perfect spot to come on a cold night for some warm ramen.

Comment: I have been here three times in quick succession, after the first time I stopped by, it has become legitimately hard to walk down the block without stopping by for some ramen. Alcoholic drinks are pretty standard Japanese and American fare, cant go wrong with a Sapporo or an Asahi, with some Sake, or with a Montauk IPA, so if your interested in drinks its pretty self explanitory, and they have a nice drinks menu with dope one piece animations on it.Food wise, I have always tried a different bowl of ramen, only hot, I havent tried the cold noodles yet. The main bowls of ramen they serve comes with a Chicken broth, which is satisfying, although slightly less creamy then I like my chicken broth, it doesnt really leave me missing the creaminess, its flavorful and comes at just the right temperature for getting right into it. Very consistent soft-boiled egg. The different bowls of ramen are variations on the chicken broth, such as garlic, spicy, miso, or something with fish flavor I believe, either way, its definitely worth asking the waiter whats going on unless you happen to read Japanese, which I do not. The thing that was recommended to me on my first visit by my waitress was the stir fried beef and vegetables, which comes out sizzling on a hot plate and goes great as a side to share with another person. Ive always gotten ramen, the person I ate with always got a cutlet with rice, and we split the beef, which enhances their rice and enhances my ramen. Halfway through my noodley experience, I dump a portion of my stir fried beef into that bad boy to make it sweeter and savorier. epic flavor bomb. The kimchi is also fantastic, havent had any that good that wasnt home made. The potato Croquet is also great, beautifully fried, but for the price I would probably opt for something else next time.Great service, small personal spot, pretty good outdoor seating, unless its raining, in which case there is only one good table under the awning, and the umbrellas dont look very effective for the curb seating, aside from shade.

Comment: Loved everything about this place - the food, service, pricing, ambience, atmosphere. I think the only thing to make it that much better would be if there were more coat hooks/racks. Before I came, I didnt know what to expect, and then my partner described it as tapas style but with japanese food. My favorite menu item is the fried oysters. Great if you like sharing food and trying a lot of different things. Definitely coming back!

Comment: The food here was really good. I got the pork katsu with egg and my friend got the pork katsu & curry. Im not usually a fan of katsu style but this one was very good. I was disappointed that the egg was fried with/into the cutlet - I was expecting it to be an egg where I could mix it with the rice. The other downside was that there wasnt much sauce for the mountain of rice they included.. luckily I stole some bites of the curry my friend got and scooped a little bit of it into my bowl. This was also very good. I think next time I go, I will try the curry cutlet dish. The potstickers were okay. I could go without them next time unless Im super hungry.The place itself was clean. The staff were efficient and not overbearing.

Beef and rice was amazing with caramelized onions, the seared sea bass was great and the soups were generous and flavorful. You sit on low bar stools in front of store, booths and larger party seating available in the back.

Comment: This place is a great addition to the line up of restaurants on 30th Avenue. It’s a cozy little restaurant with a nice relaxed feel to it. When you come in you’ll immediately see there’s a bar with stools on one side and tables on the other. People can sit by the bar and watch the staff grill the food or sit at the tables and be served.I noticed that the menu offered some Korean dishes like kimchee and pajun but for the most part is Japanese izakaya.I ordered the yaki gyoza (dumplings), tsukune (chicken meatball) and oyako don (rice bowl). The gyoza skin was thin and crunchy. And for a fried dish, it tasted very light and not at all oily. The chicken meatball was my favorite dish. They give you two pieces with an egg to dip in and it was delicious. It made me want to try some of their other small grilled dish options on the menu. I thought the rice bowl was also very good and they give you a generous portion. The simmered egg and chicken had a nice subtle taste but was still flavorful. And it’s a very good-looking dish with the veggies and radish on top.I found the servers very friendly and attentive. I read in some other reviews, comments about the slow service but I did not find this in my visit. My food came to my table quickly and every time I looked up; the servers were there ready to assist. I most definitely will be coming back try more items on the menu.

Comment: Great place for 30th! We ordered something from each section of the menu (it is quite a few pages) and everything that came out was great. Lots of small plates to share so everyone can get a taste with options that are grilled, fried or raw. Lots of fish, chicken, pork and beef. We split a rice bowl (which was delicious) but it would have been very filling for one person. The servers were very friendly and the food came out quickly and in a steady stream, so as soon as we finished one dish there was another one ready for us. Will definitely come back to try the other menu items soon!!!!
