Comment: Beautiful ambiance. it’s a big space but still felt intimate. hoped the hype was just hype bc cant afford to be here all the time but the food was bomb. i got to try the tartare, cod, bass and duck and they were all amazing (our other, greedy friends got other entrees but they didnt share so cant comment on those dishes. based on how they hovered and shoveled the food in their mouths though, im sure they were fantastic as well). portions arent big but this is definitely a case of quality over quantity. if theyre ever on restaurant week again, take advantage! we missed it but it was a celebration so we splurged.

Comment: I came for dinner during restaurant week. The portions were definitely sized down to meet the $42 price point, but the food was excellent! Our server Jose was kind, helpful, and funny! Incredibly attentive and very knowledgeable of the menu. When the appetizers came out, I’m not going to lie, I was really disappointed with the portion size, but by the end of the meal I was content (not stuffed. I could have eaten a second dessert or a $3 taco, but I exercised self-restraint). I had the snow crab sunomono and my friend had the tuna tartare. Next time I’m going straight for the tartare, it was incredible! Mains, I had the sea bass and he had the skirt steak. I would get either entree again, they were both juicy, perfectly seasoned, and came with a side of rice. I was able to finish every grain of my rice but the skirt steak was a larger portion and my friend didn’t finish his rice. Dessert we both got the matcha pana cotta. This is the only dessert I ever need again!

Comment: It was fine. Service was great, but food and beverage inconsistent. Miso soup too salty (and I love salt), tuna tartar -need soy or salt, chicken yakitori - YUMMY. The sea bass, steak and sashimi is yummy. Chicken entree had a weird consistency and look, but flavorful. All entrees came with rice, which is not neccessary or completed the dishes to make a perfect bite of complimentary flavors. I ordered sake - 34 for 10 oz and it tasted nothing like the description. Same with shinjou, $12 a glass- it tasted like rubbing alcohol. I have had better Japanese liquor elsewhere. For an iron chef restaurant, I have had better elsewhere.

Comment: Food was absolutely delicious, though its expensive and portions are small. I had high expectations coming in and was not disappointed. We went for restaurant week. We didnt love the tuna tartare, but the chicken yakitori, sea bass, and sushi were all sublime. Best tuna roll Ive ever had. It was super busy, but staff were very friendly and attentive.

Comment: We went for restaurant week and had a great time. We loved the three course and got extras to share. The tuna tartare was lovely and Im happy that I sprang for the wagyu steak with hen of the woods mushrooms. The 10 piece sashimi I was told was incredible and consisted of many common sushi cuts but of course of the highest quality. We shared uni from Japan in addition to the rock shrimp tempura and a bottle of Brooklyn kura sake. Highly recommend morimoto!

Comment: It was my first time visiting, during restaurant week. The ambience and the service was outstanding. I had the best tuna tartare I’ve ever had. My husband had the gyoza and also loved it. For entrees we had the sushi combo and the sashimi plate. It was delicious and perfectly served for sure, but we wished there was more food. I understand it’s a fancy place, and sushi is not usually cheap, but I don’t think I would have payed the full menu price for the same plate. For desert we tried the chocolate cake with strawberry sorbet (not a part of restaurant week) and it was amazing.Overall the best grade would be 4.5 stars, but I rounded it up :)

Comment: Ordered lunch sets, one with the steak and tofu salad and one with sashimi and yellowtail appetizer. Good quality food, nicely prepared although a bit over-sauced on the meat. Nevertheless, a nice lunch set that came out very promptly. Solid service and ambiance as well - quite high end and contemporary. Amenities and offerings such as impressive full bar downstairs make it a nice spot for a date or gathering with friends. Dinner is more expensive but would recommend for the lunch set at least.

Comment: Morimoto is a great sushi restaurant in the Meatpacking District. The build-out is impressive and the food is high quality. The prices are pretty high and the portions are pretty small, but they are not the first/only restaurant to do that. Service is good. Dont come here for Restaurant Week, you will leave hungry. But the regular menu is good- I would recommend lunch for an easy reservation.

Comment: The food and service is what you expect from a fine dining place. We did the 8 course tasting menu which was so fun. If you are looking for a unique experience outside of good sushi and played entrees I highly recommend it. The restaurant is very modern. There were people dressed in business casual to jeans and a t-shirt. Sometimes famously owned restaurants can not live up to the hype, but this place was quality through-and-through.

Comment: The lighting and interior is very pleasant - the drape effect of the walls is calming and adds to privacy and the mesh curtains between some tables also gives an intimate vibe. Our table of four felt nice and private. The food is delicious as it should be as it is expensive. The service is attentive, the drinks were delicious and the sushi, the black cod, the sea bass all delicious. This is a restaurant we come to occasionally and this time with family who loved it. Well keep coming back.

Comment: Our experience was outstanding! Warmly greeted as visitors, we found a beautiful restaurant with great service. (Taron was so nice, superbly knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing. He represents the best in professional service!). They immediately asked about dietary restrictions. Comment: My wife and I like to come to Morimoto and always have a great time. This past visit was no exception. We had the Omacase and were presented with an amazing 7 course meal. The wait staff were excellent and brought out the different parts of the meal at a great and casual pace. As each course came out they explained everything that was on the plate, which was especially helpful for some of the more unique dishes that we were presented. Each course was unique in presentation and provided a host of amazing flavors. The Toro Tartare was delicious, as was the Seasonal Sashimi and Sashimi Salad. One of our suprise favorites was the chawanmushi, a king crab and mushroom soup. The sushi was great, and the highlights of the meal were the Cod and the American Wagyu steaks. The meal was finished with an assortment of small desserts which complemented the dinner perfectly. We love coming to Morimoto to enjoy the amazing food and will definitely be returning.

Comment: Overall: Fresh, flavorful, and fun from start to finish! Came for restaurant week and would return for a regular meal as well.Ambiance: Very trendy, NYC ambiance, large space, and has the upscale sushi feel without being overly pretentious. I sat at the sushi bar with a friend, which to be honest was a bit awkward because you had to climb down into the seats - so beware women with dresses/skirts or anyone with a knee or back injury. It was also a bit awkward because servers approached us from behind vs. over the counter and it nearly felt like at any moment something could be dropped on us - not a huge deal, just worth notingFood: for a restaurant week deal, this was epic! Hamachi Sashimi starter, 10 Sashimi sampler, and a lovely dessert to top it off. I would definitely come back again to try things on the full menu, but felt exceptionally happy with price point for quality.Drinks: Cocktails were delicious, I tried the Kauai, which was like a tropical aperol spritz. The sale we tried was very good as well, we tried a bottle, but a bit pricey and maybe not the best option if you’re looking at cost vs. consumption over time.Service: service was great, no complaints, everyone was VERY attentive and friendly!

Comment: I was a little disappointed with Morimoto. We got the hot stone beef which was just okay, not amazing but what was amazing was the tempura rock shrimp in amazing sauces. I would come back and order two of those. The sushi rolls we had were just average. It was the tempura shrimp and yellow tail rolls. I was expecting to be blown away with the sushi as far as different sauces or something to make it pop. I will definitely try again and maybe do something new.

Comment: Solid lunch location with a reasonably priced and tasty 3-course sushi offering in an otherwise desolate and grungy area of the Flatiron ripe with the smells of day old restaurant garbage and New York grime. Wouldnt recommend this restaurant for anything other than the lunch crowd, which seems to be well understood because it fills up quickly midday M-F and is a ghost town any other time, probably due to the curb appeal of last nights trash.

Comment: This is hard to review. I did Omakaee. The food was EXCELLENT!! But the price was very high. I know there is a premium for the name and location, and Im fine with that. But I was still hungry when I left. Its hard to give 5 stars given the amount I spent. So, if you know that and youre cool spending a ton of money for high quality Japanese food, definitely give it a shot!! For me, the price was too high and I will probably pass on my next trip. The service was A+. I highly recommend the Sake pairings.

Comment: I am impressed. Their service was good for a large group, with a waiter who could speak to the food, size up our order count for apps to match our table size, and make us smile. What was more impressive was their take on the classic yellowtail jalapeño roll. They transformed one of my least favorite rolls into something i ate more of. They waygu skewers were a table favorite. We would recommend stopping by for a special occasion.

Comment: The food was absolutely amazing. The seasonal sashimi and the main course was well presented and very delicious; we ordered the Surf and Turf and the Yakitori (the grilled chicken with crispy rice). The uni was definitely the highlight of the night, it tasted soo good, as if it was fresh from the ocean, I was so excited that I forgot to take a photo of it and just went for it haha! Comment: Having dined at Morimoto in Philly 1st, the NY restaurant had a lot to live up to. While the service was very good the food just wasnt as good. Thats not to say the food wasnt very good our expectation was we would have the same experience as we did at the Philly location and it wasnt as good. The Bop was excellent the sushi was a chewy octopus away from being flawless, the waygu beef was great. The gyoza was good, but it was the chicken dish that was awful and the reason we didnt give 5 stars.

Comment: We had a reservation but arrived early, and thus ended up starting the evening downstairs in the bar area.Im not sure if the bartender was having a bad day, but she was absolutely awful considering how expensive and classy the restaurant was. She wasnt friendly, engaging and barely responded to our attempts to talk to her. Despite that, we kept our hopes up and ordered a couple drinks and dishes. I went with a white lily (I was opting for something fruity and light) - honestly, this was probably the best cocktail Ive ever had in my life. It had shochu, calpico and yuzu - three ingredients that I absolutely love. My colleague ordered a sukotto which he undoubtedly loved. We ordered shisito peppers and I dish I cant remember the name of, but it was essentially tater tots.. but better. The second dish was so good I unfortunately filled up a little too much before we sat down for dinner.Feeling full but wanting to try as much of the menu as humanly possible, we ordered the omakase. The highlights of the evening were the toro tartare (our waiter informed us that the full size dish is even better), wagyu, dessert dish, and the seasonal sashimi with the truffle. The crab cake was interesting - its prepared like a French macaron, almost, but the macaron portions are thinner and crispier. The sashimi salad I remember being a little bland, some of the nigiri was a little too fishy for me (Im not a fan of shrimp) and I usually dont like cod unless its fried..In summary, as can be expected, the food was pretty solid here but the highlight was the service. Our waiter (Michael, I believe) provided us with some of the best service Ive *ever* had. Not only was he attentive and helpful, but he was clearly running the show (directing the other staff around and making sure everyone was in place). A staff member accidentally brought out a fork and knife a dish too early, and I heard him scold the staff member - it was almost like he was... protective of us and our dining experience. In addition, he honestly seemed passionate about his job, especially given his level of knowledge about the food and restaurant. We ended up asking for the manager in the end to let her know how much of a gem he was. I would honestly come back just for him.

Comment: It was very easy to reserve a table for our big group of 13 people. They have ample of large and small tables, nice decor and warm ambiance. For a vegetarian like me, they had many menu options and the vegetarian food was very good. Vegetarian sushi was one of the best Ive ever had. My meat-eater colleagues were praising their food too so it was a great experience for everyone on the table. Staff was friendly and gave good suggestions.Afterwards, a trip to the Chelsea market was an added bonus!

Comment: My family and I were sightseeing in NYC and could not find a single restaurant that could take us. As a last ditch effort we called Morimotos and luckily, they were able to squeeze us in. The customer service and staff was very attentive and accommodative. The architectural design of the restaurant was beautiful and the food was exceptional. We ordered the waygu beef hot river stone which we cooked ourselves. The tempura sweet potatoes sounded interesting and tasted great. The third appetizer we got was the gyoza which was served differently than I had ever had. For entrees, a miso as well as an udon soup and the salmon. All of the food was outstanding and I would highly recommend.

Comment: Along with my girlfriend, we dined at Morimoto for dinner during restaurant week. I normally try to take advantage of restaurant week so I can dine at restaurants, which normally come to over $100/person, but for the special Restaurant Week $42/person prix fixe menu. The date started off with a $9 bottle of still water along with $16-$18 cocktails. My cocktail consisted of calpico and yuzu. Although pricey, the beverage was tasty and refreshing. For our first appetizer course, we ordered the magurozuke (marinated tuna, cucumber, kalamansi) and tsukune (chicken meatball). The magurozuke had a nice taste and freshness from the kalamansi and cucumber, but there was something about the texture of the tuna as its exterior was cooked. It was good, but I would have preferred the texture of a fresh raw tuna. The tsukune was delicious, wanting more as the dish only consists of 3 chicken meatballs. For our entrees we ordered the yuzu kosho chicken and skirt steak. I had assumed the night would consist of high-quality small portion dishes, but the entrée portion size was surprisingly just right. Perfect to be satisfied, but not overly full. The skirt steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly, and perfectly complimented with roasted shishito peppers and crispy taro. The chicken was tasty as well, but nothing special, almost similar to an entrée at a wedding reception. We had both offerings on the menu, the goma hana, and the shiro choko. I have an affinity for black sesame and panna cotta. Since the goma hana is in essence a black sesame panna cotta, it may have been my favorite dish of the night. The white chocolate cream and marble merengue of the shiro choko were tasty as well. I believe the center yuzu-passionfruit sorbet of the shiro choko was good too, but not as welcome to taste following a bite of the goma hana as the sorbet is very tart. It was a delicious meal and experience, especially at Restaurant Week prices. On a sidenote, as stated in other reviews, the ambience is very trendy, but the bathrooms are of note. Similar to when I went to Japan, a warmed toilet bowl with bidet for a good clean feel. As well as an infinity-ish mirror in the stall, along with Instagram handle label in the sink mirror.

Comment: Came here during the restaurant week. Got a reservation and was served promptly.I got a chicken meatball, black cod and a sesame dessert for $42. This is of very good value considering the restaurant’s normal pricing. The black cod was well seasoned - sweet yet not too saucy. The meat was tender and juicy. It went well with the rice, which was also of high quality. The chicken meatball was normal. Putting lemon sauce made it a little better. The desert was good. The drink I ordered was fruity. Pretty refreshing. The service was fast and friendly. Overall a nice experience!

Comment: I went here with a friend for Restaurant Week. Interior was super trendy and loved everything about it! I had ordered the sweet potato tempura (which was definitely different compared to the tempura I usually see), braised black cod and the shiro choco as part of my 3-course selection. Overall, food was fantastic, but the portion was super minimal for what youre paying for. Bar was located downstairs, where the bartender kindly helped me as soon as i settled in. I would definitely recommend Morimoto again for a date night!

Comment: Had a wonderful dinner experience at Morimoto during restaurant week. We tried marinated tuna which was very flavorful and fresh and the market salad. For mains we had the braised black cod and the nigiri and sushi roll combo. For dessert we got shiro choko and soba hana. Every bite was very flavorful. I tried the slightly sweet sparkling sake which went well with the meal. Ambiance was tasteful.

Comment: What is so special and unique about this restaurant is the way the waiters served with ease and confidence explaining every dish that is being prepared for the guests to delight. The food is extremely delightful and the ambience with class and sophistication. Although a bit pricey, patronizing this authentic Japanese resto is a satisfying experience worth your money and time spent. Highly recommended adjacent to the Chelsea market in Brooklyn

Comment: Stylish. Tasty. Private. Morimoto is always a great time. Been to the one in Philly a few times, but this NY location was my first. Just passed by for a quality quick bite at the bar and relax.. All three apps were amazing. Got the Crispy Rock Shrimp Tempura, which Id give a 4 outta 5, just bc its a simple dish, that didnt have any particular twist to it.. the Wagu is outta this world thou. Seriously, Im almost vegan, but eat meat time to time and had the Wagu carpaccio and wagu skewers, made to perfection.. you may not think of Coming to Morimoto for beef and steaks, but you wont be disappointed. To me Morimoto is less of a sushi house and more of an xp. Also to avoid large crowds and have some more space ask to be seated downstairs or as I like to call it my secret hidden bar, with the best bartender who knows every aspect of this resturant. She worked there for over 9 yrs and loved that she knew everything about the food, neighborhood and the drinks. Super time. Thank you. Oh and I must not forget the alcohol, first time I tried an aged sake from morimoto, just had a glasd of the 5 yr dried sake or Koshu, and then with food I ordered a carafe of morimoto ginju - highly pear aromas, soft on the pallet, light in taste, could be a great lounging drink Id say as well...Everything was great. Thanks 😚- @Itsreallymeiswear- Ria

Comment: Very cool restaurant. I dont go to many really fancy restaurants, so this was a treat. Staff was friendly and helpful. The inside looked cool, walls and ceiling were made to look like curtains. The seating areas were separated with dividers in a clever way, so it felt private yet still open. Food was very fresh. Surprisingly a lot of the fish came from Japan itself! Trying the smoked salmon from New Zealand was also a pleasant surprise. If you like squid, make sure to get it with shiso leaf, it makes it! Also had some wagyu beef. If Im gonna get it in NY, this is probably one of the best places to do so. Overall, happy with the meal and experience

Comment: We were three to dine a Sunday evening in November 2018.I started with Braised Daikon. Delicious. My husband started with 2 x 3 sushi selections (rockfish, barracuda, abalone, butterfish, Antarctic salmon and grilled fresh water eel). All incredibly delicious and fresh. See attached photos. Our young child enjoyed 3 servings of wagyu skewers. I tasted his dish. Very flavorful.I enjoyed my surf and turf.My husband chose Duck, Duck, Goose. He says it was the best tasting poultry serving he has ever enjoyed. Perfectly prepared, very tender and flavorful. A side dish was sauteed bok choy in ginger. The wine was Kith and Kin Napa. Outstanding. So good my husband ordered a case from a retailer. All in all Morimoto is one of our best dining experiences. We highly recommend Morimoto. Our server Lai Ling/Elva was professional, knowledgeable, courteous, attentive and a true joy talking with her. A real asset to the restaurant.

Comment: This is a 3.5 star rating, which was rounded up: Reservations are rarely necessary at Morimoto, where the food is of good, but ordinary quality, and (where the food itself) is enjoyed by those that have either not attended culinary events frequently enough, or have had limited travel to the West Coast, Hawaii, Japan, or Hong Kong, where food quality is consistently better than at Morimoto. (Even the Ritz Carlton in Grand Cayman Islands wins on food quality alone.) Presentation wise, it is acceptable for NYC standards, but there is nothing noteworthy, or edgy. The service is always superb, with one main server, several bussers, and several presenters delivering food, some more enthusiastic than others. There are several hosts, and coat check, in front of 2 commercial quality double doors. The atmosphere is buzzing with a generous collection of business elite, tourists, fashionistas (although not as beautiful as Cipriani), and regular patrons, like this writer, well into the 2200 hour, with the kitchen that closes shortly thereafter. The setting is large, sparkling, and open, with the kitchen and center bar visible from multiple spots. Excellent for small groups, and large ones of 40+. Multiple levels (up or down 3 steps) add dimensional quantities, rarely seen in NYC restaurants. Bathrooms are gender - specific, and may or may not be wheelchair accessible. Morimoto is force of nature to go to once (or in my case many times over the last decade), and a space of enjoyable gatherings.

Comment: We had a lovely early dinner at Morimoto. The service was excellent as were the appetizers, drinks, and entrées. The place has a nice flair and the staff knows how to spread out customers throughout the restaurant to make the place not too crowded but also not too empty. The only thing that was not really up to expectations were the side orders. They are also probably better shared.

It is a very special place, and it is obvious that a lot of effort goes into maintaining the highest quality experience for the guests. Comment: Very nice decor, good service, and the food is good. Unfortunately for the prices they charge here, just good isnt a great deal.Admittedly I went for restaurant week so the portion sizes may have been adjusted accordingly but I didnt leave feeling very satisfied. I got the Sakura smoked octopus, which was admittedly very good but the portion was small. For the main course both my friend and I got the sashimi. This was once again decent but we were surprised to see that we didnt get the same assortment of fish.I cant give this place less than four stars because the food is definitely good but it was not a great value for me. If youre coming here to splurge or for a work compensated meal, it is definitely worth checking out. Otherwise be aware that it is on the expensive side with small-ish portions.

Comment: A good tasting meal at Morimoto. We enjoyed the taste of everything throughout the night. The Tuna Tanaki gave flavorful and dense bites that were the definition of appetizers, they left us wanting more. The ramen soup is a mainstay of the menu. It is hearty and simply. The noodles are smooth and fresh, they had a creaminess to them. I thoroughly enjoyed that portion of a meal. I ordered the surf and turf and was rather disappointed in the turf portion. Since it is skirt steak, I probably should have ordered in well done, but did not. The surf was excellent and the potato pancake that accompanied the meal was my favorite bite of the night. We order cocktails throughout the night: the iwai highball was one of the more enjoyable whiskey cocktails that I have ever had and the insawa tastes like a Japanese twist on a martini. I loved their cafe au lait. While the food was excellent, the experience was lacking. It was a Wednesday night and it seemed that the restaurant was not being fully used. The ambient volume of the restaurant is more representative of a bar than a romantic restaurant. We were seated in between two louder parties and asked to be moved somewhere a little quieter. They could not accommodate us. I think if you come in with the expectation of volume you will enjoy your experience, sadly it was not what we expected. I also felt that the waitstaff though responsive most of the time, was a little pretentious. They have a habit of walking the customer through the dish upon serving it, but I know what steak looks like and I know what fish looks like. I felt it was needlessly intrusive.Overall, not the best location for a date on a weekday but probably a great deal of fun with friends.

Comment: We usually dont like doing this for our reviews, but this 5-star rating is not given to the food. Rather, we were so blown away by the dining experience, that we decided to bend the rule for once. In all honesty, we were short of expecting fugu at Morimotos price point, but instead, it was just a high-end Izakaya menu with very small portion sizes. That about sums up our food experience. What really distinguishes this restaurant from your typical Izakaya place is the decor and atmosphere. Even without a dress code, the whole place just screams special the moment you walk into the front door. There are 4 main dining areas: the individual glass rooms, the traditional sushi bar, the dining space in the basement, and the group dining area for large parties. Even though there are 4 clear separate areas, the whole restaurant has an open design with high ceiling lined with sound absorbing material. The service team was impeccably trained and catered to all of our dining wishes. Weve decided that the sole purpose of the existence of this type of restaurant is for making an impression. Whether it be a boss, an elder family member, or a significant other, this place will really wow your guest. P.S. before splurging on one of Morimotos bespoken sakes, get the tasting flight to determine which one you actually like. We found the Ginjo to be best for complimenting with food.

The wait staff was amazing, they brought out each dish and explained each detail and even gave instructions how to eat everything. We didnt wait too long for the food either. We ordered the rock shrimp which was crunchy and creamy, toro tartare which words dont do justice explaining, and the bagna cauda which was an anchovie fondue, not my favorite but everyone enjoyed it.For our main courses ranked in order of popularity, we had the surf and turf, beef sukiyaki, sea bass, king salmon, ishi yaki buri bop, and seafood toban yaki. All of the dishes were delicious and each had its unique umami flavor. Although I wish the beef sukiyaki had slightly more noodles, those noodles with the soup was yummy. Also you cant go to Morimoto without trying the bathroom. Tried it and loved it. I didnt have to use the toilet but I walked in just to experience the endless mirrors and flush the toilet. The only recommendation I have is do not bring your own cake. The staff wanted to charge us $7 each for eating my moms birthday cake. It was a little ridiculous, what if my mom had a dietary restriction.

Comment: Being a fan of the Iron Chef and Japanese cuisine, I was excited when I had the chance to go to Morimoto for dinner. Our party of 8 made reservations for 6pm, but we arrived a bit early, so we decided to head to the bar downstairs for drinks. We had a bottle of champagne and waited till our entire party arrived. We were seated promptly after in the upstairs dining area, which provided a nice ambience. We had two bottles of wine and sake to start. Then, our ordering had began:APPETIZERS/MAINS/DESSERTS- Edamame: Nothing out of the ordinary. Beans with sea salt. Delicious.- Toro tartare: It was served on a wooden board with a spoon of caviar on top and a tray of sauces and pastes to accompany for taste. You had to scrap the tartare off the board with a metal soup and then dip into the condiment tray. It was really fresh and the amount was just right for a taste.- *Wagyu beef carpaccio: This was my favourite appetizer of the night! The wagyu pieces were thinly sliced and soaked in a pool of yuzu soy, ginger and sweet garlic. The flavours mixed so well together, and tasted so good. I think I could have easily had the whole plate if we werent sharing. I would choose this again next time I come!- Spicy king crab: The crab was really fresh. I think comparable to the fresh king crabs Ive had in Japan. The crab had a sweet but spicy mayo-like sauce on top. It wasnt too spicy, but I think I would have preferred to have it without the extra sauce to taste the freshness of the crab.- Pork gyoza: This wasnt the typical gyoza that you have in Japanese restaurants or ones you buy frozen from the grocery. The gyoza had a bacon foam over it. So you had to break through the hardened back foam, gently with the tap of a spoon, and piece out your gyzoa. The concept was interesting and the bacon foam was nice, but the gyoza itself didnt blow me away.- Rock shrimp tempura: The tempura was cooked with two kinds of sauces- a wasabi and sweet and sour sauce. I personally preferred the sweet and sour sauce. The shrimps reminded me of popcorn shrimp. The tempura was nicely cooked, and there wasnt too much tempura batter on each piece.- Yosedofu: This was tofu prepared table side. The taste was very fresh and the lobster ankake gave it a nice flavour.- Soft shell crab roll, salmon roll, tamago, unagi- Wagyu beef: The wagyu didnt melt in your mouth, but it was definitely noteworthy. It was juicy, flavorful, and worth a few helpings.- Desserts: Our party ordered one or two of everything on the menu. The ginger ice was refreshing, and the chocolate mousse was rich and delicious.Overall, our party enjoyed the dinner. The food was well prepared and the staff were attentive and surprisingly not pretentious. The bill for our party of 8 came to a total of $1,400. It may have been a bit pricey, but the experience was well worth it.

Comment: If youre a fan of Morimoto Masaharu then this is a must for you. I suggest the Omakase so you get a little of everything. Tuna Pizza and Shrimp Pops for appetizers were great. If youre looking for traditional Sushi/Japanese Cuisine then you dont know who Morimoto is, so this place is not for you. A beautiful restaurant with friendly Hosts and Staff. Great Bar as well!!

Comment: You really do get what you pay for. Its pretty amazing and fresh food. The carpaccio salad was the best I have had. Soft shell crab was too salty but the sushi made up for it. We didnt have a reservation but were able to get a seat downstairs. The waiter was great and if you work at Google you get a discount!!!!

Comment: Table of 4 - we all did omakaseAlthough food was tasty and service was wonderful I cannot provide a 5 star rating....I was still hungry after the 7 course meal. The portions were enough for a small hamster. For $137 per person I was disappointed. I wish I just ordered regularly off the menu. Unimpressed. If were spending that much money we should be provided with more value. The quality was great but I would not recommend omakase. The meal was salad and cracker... And j was left feeling wheres the rest??

Comment: Let me just say, that it has always been my dream to visit Morimotos restaurant ever since I saw a review of his toro tartare on food network. The way Duff Goldman described the dish made it so awe inspiring that I made it a goal to visit this establishment someday. After coming here for the first time, I came back at least 2 more times, thats how good it was.During my fourth coming back here, I realized it was probably my last. Dont get me wrong, the food was amazing, but for its price point, it is just too expensive for my blood. The chopped up toro eaten with the six side condiments were amazing. Who else would have thought to eat raw tuna toro with nori paste, wasabi, sour cream, chives, guacomole, and rice crispies. The caviar that tops the toro tartare, is amazing as well. The sushi and uni pasta salad that we got, was also very delicious. Our bill came out to be about $200 and we were still hungry. Im glad I got to experience what it was like but I dont think Ill be coming back. On a brighter note, the service was impeccable, my water level never reached the bottom of the glass.

Comment: Has an upscale, trendy feel to it. Came during restaurant week and wasnt disappointed: the 5 spice pork belly was excellent, as was the apricot pot de crème. Staff is very attentive, but regular prices are extremely high. UPDATE: The sautéed foie gras and grilled eel are to die for.

Comment: The food and service here are both spectacular. A receptionist greets and checks your coats upon arrival and with reservations you are quickly escorted to your table. The stunning interior by famed Japanese architect Tadao Ando can only be fully appreciated when the full space is seen. The main floor boasts an open kitchen, semi-private tables separated by glass panes, and a beautifully designed wall that appears more art than partition.Very pricey, but incredibly delicious. The Braised Black Cod is the best cod Ive had. The Morimoto Dry Aged Burger is one of the best burgers Ive ever had. Miso soup is also top notch. Desserts are good but not amazing. The two cocktails I tried disappointed.TIP:If you go during lunch hours, the lunch sets are a great mix of items.

Comment: Fancy, trendy, AAA-grade place - usually with a waiting list. You can get some nice vanguard-fusion Japanese food. Its extremely expensive, especially if you ask for the tasting menu, with 10 different dishes. Its exotic, its valid as an experience if you like trying exquisite stuff, and Morimoto has a high reputation among New Yorkers. However, if you usually like to eat regular-simple food without peculiar presentations, as well as peculiar ingredients, skip Morimoto.

Comment: In A Nutshell:*Took my lovely gf to NYC for her b-day (late July/early Aug) and decided to celebrate her actual b-day dinner at Morimoto, a great choice indeed!*We sat in probably the best seats in the entire restaurant, the table was directly in the center, but on the top tier dining area with a clear view of the sushi chefs and all of the fine décor that surrounded us.*The service was truly above and beyond. I totally thought that our server was the owner since his knowledge of everything (including the history) just amazed us.*The food (please see my photos), was very unique, beautifully arranged and above all tasted fabulous.*The best part of the entire ordeal was the surprise b-day cake. When I made my reservation 2 weeks in advance I asked for a dessert and I forgot that I asked about this! So I got major cool points when our server brought out the awesome b-day themed dessert. Surprised both of us LMAO!Overall, come here for the romantic environment, the top-notch service as soon as you are greeted and while you dine, its definitely worth it!

Comment: Food: I found the menu to be a little more extensive than I tend to enjoy - this is partly because of my own inability to focus on more than 5 appetizers options before my mind wanders off into some deep abyss. However, the miso glazed bone marrow was delicious. I could eat 5 more servings of this fatty, melt in your mouth appetizer that you smear on garlicky sourdough bread. The oyster foie gras was also decadent - although a little heavy handed on the teriyaki sauce as to mask the full flavor of the oyster or nice chunk of foie gras ontop. The carpaccio was also quite good.We also shared the sushi sampler, which was also a delicious and had a wide variety of fresh fish.Ambiance: dark with modern decor. I would be remiss if I did not include a comment about the japanese-spa toilet that is both bidet and then blows hot air up your bum for a quick dry cycle. It is an experience.Overall: 4/5 stars- very excellent experience and would highly recommend for anyone looking for a nice evening or date night.

Comment: My favorite restaurant in NYC.The drinks are excellent. The sushi rice is soft. The sushi itself is super fresh. They also toast their own sesame seeds and it really makes a difference in the rolls. The fish entrees are also cooked to perfection (salmon, sea bass, yellowtail). The presentation is top notch. Order the yellowtail and they will sear it in the bowl at your table.

Comment: Ive have never eaten at a restaurant, where the food was so good, that it silenced me.I didnt want to talk to anyone, because I didnt want any concentration to be diverted away from my taste buds. Occasionally, I would glance up to the others within our large group just to say, Oh my God, then go back to creepily enjoying my food. When walking through the door, you immediately feel a sense of fluidness from the atmosphere. Tapestry is hung in a swaying manner, which seem to engulf the diners. Gemstones glisten on the wall, looking wet. And warm lighting compliments it all.I was there with a group of +10; it was the last night in NYC, during a work trip. Our server was patient, personable, and entertaining, in addition to knowing the menu and drinks like the back of his hand.As an appetizer, I ordered a spicy salmon roll, and while it was very good, it was nothing above something I have had in the past. I realize this is a very basic maki. My co-worker and I each ordered a plate, and then shared them both. We split the sea bass and ocean trout, and it was absolutely delectable. Cooked to perfection, and just melted. For dessert, I ordered the Chocolate Macadamia Nut Bar, which was very good and tiny, and a perfect way to end the meal.During the meal, I had the White Lily martini, and my co-workers allowed me to sample their cocktails. All were tasty, had a good balance of alcohol, and contained unique ingredients. One of the pricier restaurants I have been to, but I will happily pay again for another dining experience at this Iron Chefs NYC location.

Comment: Amazing experience eating here from a restaurant owned by one of the great masters of Food Network. Mom had the chefs course, which consisted of 7 courses at a whopping price (seriously, like 200 bucks) but she got a great taste of everything from tuna tataki to several desserts. Everything that I was hoping for and more. Only minor quibble was the atmosphere, which looks like something from a post-modernist-industrial fashion boutique, but who are we kidding if the food is top notch?

Comment: We came here with our sales rep so everything is paid for! Lucky for us! Anyway, the restaurant is modern and chic. We were seated downstairs in the lounge area. It was fairly early so nobody was around us until later 7PM.I tried their Bluebell cocktail to start the night. It is amazing. I think every girl should try this. Dont get the Moritini because it tastes like sashimi. We got the Rock Shrimp Tempura as appetizer to share. They brought out two flavors of tempura. One is slightly saltier and closer to Buffalo Wing style and the other is lightly battered fried shrimp and a plate of Ranch dressing. It is definitely very different from your regular shrimp tempura. We also got the Lobster Fritters and again it is very unique and unlike any other fritters I have had. In fact, it is more like a takoyaki ball but with lobster inside. For sushi, we got the spicy tuna roll and eel and avocado rolls. They are both pretty good but honestly I think for the price, it should have been better. The sushi rice was not particularly outstanding. The sashimi platter we got however was very fresh and top quality.I had to leave the party earlier but the overall experience was pleasant and the service was attentive. Definitely a great place for date night and enjoy great sashimi

You can see that a huge effort has been made to ensure that diners are looked after at every turn.We had the tasting menu, which includes seven small tasting courses. Feels a lot like being a judge on Iron Chef America :o) Each was exquisitely presented and the taste combinations were just awesome. Each course complimented the next.
