Comment: I like that they have a small menu so youre not overwhelmed with so many different options. Their menu changes day by day so you are always surprised when you go another time. Their ramen is very different from what you expect from a typical ramen spot. Their broth base is fish based which is very rich and flavorful. Definitely recommend for small groups as their seating are is small and limited.

Comment: Dining at Okonomi transcends the concept we as Americans perceive as culinary experiences. The feeling is more akeen to being welcomed to someones home and provided nourishment by a friends mother. Then the plates appear and your vision is wowed by thoughtful mounds of veggies and. Rice, a square of an omelette as well as adequate empty spaces that seems to make everything that much more appetizing. The fish is always prepared perfectly a feat that even the most acclaimed restaurants have trouble with from time to time. When you leave it is as though that old wooden door is a portal back to the city you managed to escape for a while.

We were able to get seated quickly (but I highly recommend making a reservation if possible). The food was fantastic, will definitely be going back.

Comment: Had a delightful breakfast at Okonomi + Yuji Ramen in Brooklyn, NYC last week! By day, the venue serves a Japanese breakfast and seamlessly transitions into a ramen shop come evening. At Okonomi, they offer the traditional Japanese set breakfast called Ichiju Sansai, translating to One Soup Three Dishes. This set includes your choice of roasted fish of the day, seven-grain rice, miso soup, tamagoyaki, tsukemono, and seasonal vegetables. I also added some extra touches: onsen tamago, ikura, and uni sourced from Maine. The ambiance of the restaurant is intimate, featuring several bar seats and a few tables. Upon ordering, I was greeted with a soothing cup of tea, which was quite welcoming given the chilly weather that day. It didn’t take long for the beautifully presented dishes to arrive. I chose a fatty, miso-marinated white fish, which was cooked to perfection. I was guided to mix the onsen tamago, ikura, and uni with the seven-grain rice. The combination was a burst of umami and freshness. The soft-boiled egg added a silky texture to the rice, while the ikura offered a delightful pop with each bite. What I adore about Japanese breakfasts is their deceptive simplicity. They might appear basic, but the intricate preparation underscores the genuine flavors of each ingredient. My meal was harmonious and wholly satisfying, setting a positive tone for the rest of the day. I left feeling truly contented.

Comment: I’ve been here twice now for dinner, and the food itself is high quality, unique, and delicious. the first time i had a kind & warm waitress, and the vibe felt calm & “upscale”. the second time, the waiter was a bit cold in demeanor, and the music was an odd choice (loud volume, kanye, tiktok jersey club mixes ((i swear im not a boomer)) ) which threw the atmosphere off.i’ll give it one more shot for sure. but for the price and given the size of the place, i feel the atmosphere needs to be top notch, and it was lacking a bit.

Comment: Place seats roughly 10 people. Hidden gem for sure. Serves Japanese breakfast from open to 3pm and then closes and re-opens to serve ramen at 6pm. Partner and I were feeling peckish so we split the small sharing plate w two rice and two miso soup, also adding their signature tomago and ikura. Felt very satisfied.Beautiful presentation and deliciously tasteful with diverse and complex flavours! Not important but wanted to throw this in: not family owned, just a chain.

Comment: Flavor: The hot ramen with yuzu and Tuna kasu. It is delicious and surprisingly not too hot due to the yuzu flavour. The portion is a bit small compared to the other ramen places just to be aware. After tax is around 30-35 USD.Vibe: small and cozy wooden cabin like with 4 counter seats and 2 window tables.Wait: A hot but breezy Saturday night in July, I went there when they open at 6 and is able to be seated at the counter immediately. But suggest you to make reservations if you’re a party of 2 or more or you arrive at prime time.

Comment: While the food tastes fine, the portion is too small for American sensibilities. It needs a bigger helping of rice and vegetables, especially since Okonomi only has one item on the menu and no option for shared appetizers.Sure, in Japan this might be the perfect portion. In the US people go to brunch to get stuffed. It shouldn’t break the restaurant’s philosophy to increase portions, as a meal can be both balanced *and* filling. Everyone walked away feeling a bit hungry and we found more food elsewhere.

Comment: This place was such a wonderful find. We came for the Japanese set breakfast and loved the neat, comfortable and casual space with its compact open kitchen. The fish options on the day were both delicious, crispy-skin salmon and meaty, juicy swordfish, and the fresh seasonal vegetable sides were so inventive, tasty and gorgeously presented. We went for the large set (do it!) with the onsen tamago extra to mix into the rice. Every flavour was perfect and it all just worked. And in an area where food can get super pricey, this felt like unbelievably good value for such a high-quality experience. Would easily rush back.

Comment: We had been searching for a Japanese breakfast and this is probably the most authentic we found. I love the array of foods that are prepared, between the grilled fish, the miso soup, egg, picketed vegetables. It was all so delicious (except I could’ve done without the mustard sauce on the greens) and cooked perfectly. The portion size of each part of the dish was also nice and petite which was a good, and not too heavy, start for the day. It was such a treat to have this on a Friday morning breakfast.

Comment: An extremely delightful meal hosted by friendly owners🍜 The ramen is fish based and the flavors caught me by surprise. I ordered the Tai Ume Shiso ramen. The broth was incredibly light and super super yummy. I liked it way more than the traditional pork chashu! The umeboshi and the lemon slice went so well with the tuna chashu. Had a bit of my boyfriend’s Tunakotsu ramen (not pictured) and it was so good. The scallop and crispy potato appetizer was super yummy. We ordered two appetizers because other reviews said the ramen alone is not enough food but we both agreed it’s a substantial amount. Will return.

Comment: I want to start off by saying that the space is very small. Dont even think about coming in unless you have a reservation. There are two tables and a little bar area that may be sits 4. Other reviewers have said that they sometimes had to share a table with strangers which is awkward... However, if you have a reservation, the food is delicious. We had swordfish that time but from what I understand they rotate the fish and the sides. Everything was delicious but a little pricey. But still recommend 🙂 🙂

Comment: Okonomi provides solace for those who miss Japan. The interior design is warm, welcoming, and offers a comfortable dining experience that encapsulates the Japanese culture very well. They are best known for their Japanese breakfast set. Their selection of fresh is usually fresh and sometimes they have delicious options such as the swordfish belly (although recently they did not), so definitely check with them to see what selection they have. The breakfast set is aesthetically pleasing and will definitely make your friends jealous due to its simplistic beauty and the vibrant colors of the ingredients. Weve had it as dine-in and also as take out, and I can honestly say its like night and day; dine-in was a lot fresher and tasted more delicious than take out. Back when we first went, Okonomi did not take any reservations but now that they reopened the dine-in experience, they implemented reservations so that walk-ins are usually no longer possible unfortunately. So if you do decide to come here, definitely try to make your reservations as early as possible!Hope this helps and thank you for reading! (:

Comment: Light, healthy, and well balanced seasonings. Quintessential Japanese style. Flavors are subtle but impactful. Had the daytime OKONOMI. Would definitely eat there again. Dont be weary of the bacon and eggs, its perfectly crispy pork belly where you crack the yolk to melt over fresh, thick al dente noodles. The curry was very different from other Japanese curry Ive tried. Its less spice pungent and has a hint of coconut. Great paired with the smoky fish. Could eat several Hokkaido bentos.

Comment: Okonomis was one of our first meals when we visited Brooklyn for the first part of the day. No indoor seating, but there is a outdoor seating section right in front with raised benches. We came here for their bentos. Got the Hokkaido box and their breakfast bento. Delicious, fresh, and made to order.

Comment: This is a wonderful and very Japanese experience. At the moment it’s take away only but there are two choices for seating out front - tables and some wooden rafters. The rafters were nice in the sun to enjoy a bento and Pilsner.I can’t speak highly enough of the method, quality of ingredients or presentation. I had fantastic grilled squid with rice and some amazing pickled vegetables.I am happy to be able to have an experience like this on a quiet little side street and highly suggest the place.Unique.

Comment: Update 9/28 - I’ve recently ordered their sushi, uni mazeman and hawaiian pork bowl - ALL delish. Yes, the sushi is a little pricey but the freshness is unquestionable.———————————————————Delish, seafood based alternative to pork ramen done right 👌. Non-ramen things were really good too.Karashi nuta - was so good, was sad when it was finished.Tunakotsu - tuna based ramen, really nice with the yuzu kosho and leeks. broth was really rich and tasty, and didn’t disappoint (i normally go with spicy ramens)Spicy tuna - my friend got this, and this was REALLY good. would def get it next time!

Comment: For those of you who don’t know what a Mazemen is, its the Japanese word for “mixed noodles”, essentially meaning that it’s a ramen that has no broth.Imagine a broth ramen is reduced to the point where the noodles absorb all the flavor of the ramen broth. It is simply heavenly.OKONOMI // YUJI Ramen was closed during the pandemic for a while and has now come back with a bang. Their outdoor setup for dining is amazing, and very Japanese in its culture. Their “dine-in” option is just getting the food and eating outside. There’s no serving or any waiters. It’s very COVID friendly, as they give you the food at their door and it’s up to you whether you wanna walk home or sit in their wooden structure to finish your mean.We chatted with their sous-chef for a while and according to him, the chef believe a mazemen (ramen) without a beer is incomplete.I got the Bacon & Egg, which is made in butter sauce. It’s incredible in taste and I had been waiting for it for about 8 months and it definitely lived up to the hype! One of my favorite spots for mazemen. Highly recommend!

Such humility for literally the best experience of japanese cuisine I have had in my life.I ordered the Breakfast Bento, which came in a little woden box. Every bite is flavor packed and just the right amount of food to bless your start of the day.

Comment: Okonomi was recommended by friends and it has been on my bucket list for a while. However, the wait was super bad before the pandemic, so we didnt try it until now. Their indoor dining is currently not available but there is limited outdoor seating for take-out orders. We had 2 of their OKO Bento: Breakfast Bento and Unaju. The portion was decent but its kind of pricey in our opinion. The food is delicious and delicate but not worth the long wait. We felt so glad that we visited with only a 20-minute wait.

Comment: A wonderful, intimate experience for a reasonable price if you account for the fact that their employees do not take tips because their employer takes care of paying them. I have been coming here consistently for 2 years and it never fails. Waiting times are a bit long but mostly because they care about the quality of their product. If the wait is long, a personal favourite is grabbing a cheap beer at Ontario Bar around the corner. If you go for that, you have yourself a chill, long plan that works as a great first date.Hugely recommend their mazemen (a dry ramen, like a sort of fresh pasta). Personal fav is bacon n egg, but I have never tried one that I didnt like. Do not waste money on the appetizers unless you are splurging, but seriously consider getting the add noodles order in if you are wide stomached like me.

Comment: Found this place because of Master of None call-out. It did not disappoint and was absolutely delicious in all aspects.Theres no indoor dining but there is some random seating outside (like a bleacher thing). The guy we talked to was really nice and had a good sense of humor. We ordered the mazumen with the bacon and that was absolutely incredible. Its quite heavy since its just so rich but I would love to eat two of them. Also ordered the vegan chick pea soup ramen but this was kinda boring. Also got the flavors of the special donut thing, which was pretty cool.Definitely come check this place out!

Only two chefs on duty at a time, seating is SUPER limited. Will often be a 45 min wait depending on the weather, but worth the wait every time.

Comment: Chilly nights are better with exceptional ramen and DJ Shadows 1996 LP, Entroducing. The playlist was 90’s low key, intimate and chill, which created the perfect ambiance. I was in search of ramen and came upon Okonomi / Yuji Ramen. I came on a slow Sunday evening and didn’t wait more than a few minutes. Service was quick and before I knew it I was enjoying the spicy miso kotsu - tuna broth, tuna chasyu, aka miso, cilantro, sesame. This bowl was some of the best ramen!! The flavors were lovely, as were the noodles and and the tuna belly. The spice level is medium, not too spicy, but it does have some kick. The price point is a bit higher than some other ramen places, but I didnt mind because the experience was wonderful. Another thing to note is that they do not accept tips, so it all works out. I highly recommend Okonomi // Yuji Ramen.

Those basic vegetables just kind of sitting on the plate took away from the intended experience of Okonomi. I get that picked vegetables are usually a part of Ichiju Sansai but they could have tried a little harder? They did with everything else.

Small plate of Karsari Nuta - surf calms, broccoli rabe, leeks and ichimi was potently delicious. Comment: We went here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. It’s best to come early, as the restaurant is tiny, with a small counter and two tables. Getting there when they opened at 9 spared us the crowds. The atmosphere is very tranquil and is a perfect complement to restorative Japanese food. Sitting at the bar, we were able to watch our food being prepared, and also enjoyed listening to new cooks being trained. Every dish, from the rice to the fish, was prepared with deep care and attention. The plating was excellent as well. Everything was delicately flavored and the umami provided the perfect counterbalance to our spicy dinner the night before. The food comes as a set menu of miso soup, rice, vegetables, tea, and a choice of two types of fish. You can also add a poached egg to your rice, which provides a beautiful creaminess to the dish. The meal is pricey, so it won’t be replacing our bagels and yogurt anytime soon. However, it’s definitely a great spot to visit in Williamsburg and we will certainly return!

Comment: Ive been wanting to try the ramen here for quite some time, but I always ended up being in the area (for barber appointments) on the one day they are closed. Not so on a recent jaunt to the nabe! The dish looked fresh and diminutive, but the flavor was expressive and bigger than the bowl its served in suggests. The space is cozy and intimate, and the attention paid to you by the line server may suffer a tiny bit as the restaurant gets packed and more busy. This is a good reason to really enjoy your food. Gratuity is politely declined on the bill.

Comment: In the morning time they serve a set Japanese style breakfast with an option to choose your preferred fish for the entree and at nighttime this cozy restaurant turns into a ramen shop.I visited in the morning time and was seated quickly, but with limited seating (12 seats) it is not surprising to find a line here. You are expected to share a table if necessary.Precision and attention to details are always a part of Japanese culture so it was part of our expectation for our dishes as well. As a result the time it took for the staff to prepare the dishes was a bit long. Food tasted clean and balanced. Portion size is okay for the price you are paying. I did not feel full after the fact but was satisfied. Also in sync with Japanese culture, tips are not expected post meal.

Comment: I came here to try this place after i got interested by how my friend described the food to me. We came in evening to try the ramen (because morning time is all about japanese traditional breakfast). The place was small but cozy, good decorations, good customer service, although it was only 3 people working. I ordered the tunakotsu, which the broth is made with tuna, not mixed with anything else, and an onsen tamago(poached egg) to go with it. Umm, it was my first time seeing the most beautiful poached egg ever so far. After trying the broth, i could tell it was unique, something you cannot find in usual ramen place. They use sun noodles by the way, the same noodles TOTO ramen uses. Overall, it came out around $57 with taxes as we were 2 people, and the place is NO TIPS. 4 stars only because the price is a bit highly expensive compare to other places.

Comment: Their spanish mackerel was really really delicious and perch was not bad. I liked the pouch egg on the rice as well. Though the wait was about 30 minutes, it was fun to spend some time at the tea room upstairs. Overall it was a good healthy meal!

Comment: One of the best ramen places I have ever been. You may have to wait a little bit, but the blind barber is right next door, so you can just grab a quick drink while you wait. It is very, very cozy, but not in a bad way. Get the mesa ramen. I only had a taste, but it was amazing!

Comment: This place is awesome. The service and the food are excellent. The reason I gave 4 star because you have to wait at least 2 hours for a seat.

Comment: Great food and cute shop, but very overpriced. The shop smells fishy and if you dont go right at opening you might sit at the same table with strangers since the place is so small. Service is a little slow because the kitchen is so small. Food is worth it, fish is very fresh. Great presentation of foods.

Comment: This place was such a great recommendation from a friend, and worth the trip out to Brooklyn for breakfast. And I dont even like breakfast! If youre serious about Japanese food, then splurge and get all the add ons with the uni and ikura and soft egg. The restaurant is tiny and do not take reservations so get there early to avoid disappointment.

Comment: You wont find a beautiful Japanese breakfast like this in New York. I felt transported back to Japan! Their set breakfast includes tea, rice, fish, pickled veggies and an optional poached egg. You might be a little hungry after, but thats okay. Its still worth it.

Comment: Okonomi is set in a tiny space so that even off hours, the wait can be long (hour minimum). Came for a late lunch on Sunday, the food was understated, delicate and filling. Service was impeccable. Per Japanese custom, tipping is not an option if paying by credit. On weekends, the restaurant takes a $20 deposit to be added to the waitlist which made keeping my commitment to eat at Okonomi that much easier despite the hunger pangs.

Comment: Id take day off just to eat at this place in the morning - thats how good it is. They have a seasonal menu - with the types of seafood chosen by the chef. A very unique Japanese brunch spot.

Comment: Had breakfast last Saturday which was so good! It was not only as beautiful as a piece of artwork but also yummy! Make sure you reserve your seats otherwise you have to wait for an hour as it only has about 12 seats.

Comment: We waited an hour which made me worry that the experience would be very binary (love or hate). We unanimously loved it, even our 3 yo! Lunch is very reasonably priced and leaves you satisfied without feeling too full. Do try the onsen tamago addon!

Comment: The fish itself was the highlight, simple/buttery/just the right amount of salt. The other stuff (rice, veggies, miso soup) was not bad but not super memorable to me.

Comment: The best ramen place for fish base ramen, super friendly staff. The waiter Andy is super friendly and helpful. My 10 yrs old even love it. I would go back anytime. The parking is a little hard to find but it is city so... we all had a really great meal, tasty and delicious!

Comment: Really small joint for tasty ramen dishes at dinner time. The broths were excellent, as were the noodles. I had the uni which was very rich and flavorful. The host was kind and patient, able to seat us in a reasonable amount of time on a Friday night. Make sure your party is all there, otherwise youll have to wait to be seated.

Comment: We came here for breakfast based on a friends recommendation and was blown away by the fantastic food and service! We had the Japanese set meal with fish and it was delicately seasoned and cooked to perfection. Bear in mind the place is quite small so be prepared to share a table!

Comment: Incredible breakfast. You choose the fish, the rest of the meal is fixed. Make sure you spring for the egg for your rice! Perfect presentation and portion. Fixed price includes gratuity. Three tables and counter space...very tiny. Lovely staff. Good hearty barley tea. A must-try, would travel to Brooklyn just to eat here again. Easy access from Metropolitan (M/L) subway.
