Comment: This place is good! Everything was super tasty and filling. Ordered the seaweed salad, veg gyoza, ramen & dessert.Apps were creative and a good amount of food for 2 people. The Mama ramen was spectacular! Broth tasted very fatty and rich, so if you’re looking for light fare this isn’t it. The pork was amazing, I think they may have glazed it with brown sugar or something sweet but it was subtle and not overpowering. Added bonus, they provide fried garlic and white pepper to jazz it up.Mama Anmitsu dessert was fine, not my favorite but the ice cream was very good.I’m hoping to go back and try the Udon dishes. Would highly recommend this spot.

Comment: Walked in on a snowy day, was able to get seated quickly! ordered ebi tempura udon with an egg and their pork gyoza. loved their gyozas!! but the udon was lacking, not sure if it was because the noodles were off but the broth was alright. service was very kind, always checked in on us and showed us around! would come back and try something else :-).

Comment: Stumbled in here on a rainy Sunday evening for dinner. Went inside to check out the menu but aroma of the food is what made the decision to stay.Ordered the Brussels sprouts and shishito peppers as a starter, I wish there was more shishitos in it but overall well seasoned. It came with this pink salt that added to the flavor. My friend ordered the speciality tacos for $30 and really seemed to enjoy the dish. It was served with soy sauce and another spicy wasabi soy sauce. The fish looked very fresh and delectable. I ordered the pork belly udon (I think it was $18). Which I found very flavorful and the perfect comfort meal for the rainy night. We also had a wasabi cocktail but we both weren’t big fans of it.The service was very attentive and the food was served promptly. We sat at the community table and although it was a shared table we were able sit comfortably. The atmosphere was not loud and we can have a pleasant conversation.Overall, would come back here again.

Comment: Ordered the signature ramen and the gyoza as well.Gyoza (8 of them) were pretty good, large dumplings served in an iron skillet and arrived fairly quickly. Sauce was a little thick unlike traditional gyoza but flavor was good.Ramen took a long time (over 30 minutes) to arrive due to a kitchen mix-up — I was not the only customer affected. Staff were very polite and apologetic though.Large variety of toppings all put into the ramen, unlike traditional servings which try to keep the same few ingredients; chalked it up to it being an Americanized version of Japanese ramen. Broth was decent and didn’t have any overpowering flavors, although could have been a bit richer.Additional condiments of white pepper and chilis were provided which I don’t think were necessary but which other customers (Westerners, non-Asian) added in generous amounts.Ambience was good and overall vibe was very comfortable and welcoming.Overall — many differences from traditional Japanese ramen but at the same time, a great meal for freezing weather.

Comment: Good ramen! Generous portions of noodles with a half an egg! Came with scallions and bamboo shoots. The whole shebang! Very rare to see in ramen shops in NYC. Didnt feel like I was getting nickled and dimed on handfuls of scallions.Tonkotsu Ramen was excellent. Broth was robust and flavorful. Came with scallions, red ginger, bamboo shoots, and half an egg. Like twice the amount of noodles compared to the other ramen places. Excellent bowl of noodles 🍜 by any means. The garlic fried chicken cam out hot and crispy. Garlicky and tender on the inside and super crispy on the outisde. Great to start the meal and generous portions for two!!Had two tuna rolls and were of good quality tuna. Good portion per person if you have a sushi craving.Didnt make a reservation and waited about 35 minutes on a rainy Saturday night. Which was not at all terrible. Sat by the bar in the back which was a tad cramped and stuffy. But again not terrible.Service was okay. Seems a tad short handed from the looks of it. But adequate overall.I personally do not like communal style seating. There was a massive communal style table in the center of the small restaurant and it looked cramped. The bar seats in the back was also a bench and was a bit cramped. Overall great meal, acceptable service, okay atmosphere.

Comment: Went for my sons birthday with a party of five. This place is cool if you are sitting communal, otherwise tables are kind of tight. They have happy hour, but there is nothing remotely happy hour about their happy hour specials. But we went for dinner so it didnt even matter. Food is ok. The sushi tacos are definitely the highlight. They are fresh and rice is cooked perfect and well seasoned. Should say, daughter asked for a touch of the spicy mayo on side for one of the salmon tacos and they charged us a buck fifty, which was tacky and petty. Edamame are cold, which is totally odd, but tasted okay. All other appetizers are totally stingy on portion size with the exceptions of the gyoza, so dont plan on sharing if you want more than one bite of anything, and we ordered several. Whole table had udon for dinner, everyone commented that noodles were overcooked. They use a thinner udon than many I have had, these are closer to chubby linguine. Broths are decent, but if I went back, I likely would stick with the sushi. All other food was passable. Service was nice. All in all with tip, roughly 60 a head, dont know that I would go back for anything but the sushi, there are many other choices in the area.

Comment: Great ambiance, good food. Got the cold tempura udon. Tempura was cooked extremely well but the udon could have used a bit more flavor and texture. Needed more crunchy/flavorful garnishes to counteract the mild and smooth noodles/seaweed. Perhaps a side of chili oil and a moderate amount of tempura crumbs could have really helped!

Comment: Atmosphere was great; aged dash tofu and mama mojito were extremely delicious; but sushi tacos were VERY mid. I got uni, salmon avocado, and toro. Uni was pretty fresh but slightly bitter; salmon was very ordinary and boarderline mushy/not fresh; toro was very disappointing - it was the driest toro I have had. Sushi rice was pretty good but could use a tad less vinegar. Service was pretty nice. I did not try their famous udon noodles, so this review is mostly based on sushi tacos. All in all, I would recommend here for casual Japanese food but not for their fish/sushi quality.

Comment: The food was so good that it’s 5 hours later and we can’t stop talking about our dinner bc the taste is still in our mouths! Two of us had the sushi tacos and are raving about them. The dumplings were delish. Surprisingly, my favorite dish was the pickled vegetables - best pickled vegetables I’ve ever had and beautifully presented. The only dish I wouldn’t have again would be the kabocha - wasn’t as well thought out as the other dishes. The spare ribs were tasty but didn’t have enough meat on them. Def trying the Ramen next time. It looked amazing! And the service was fantastic. We will be back!

Comment: Love this place. Great food, really cool interior. It’s a bit small and can move slow but the food is worth it. Great sushi, really enjoyed the “taco set” which is just a variety of hand rolls but the all the flavors were on point. Even the vegetable rolls had great flavor and texture, some of the best vegetable rolls I’ve had. An easy place to do vegan/vegetarian with the vegetable rolls, miso soup, vegetable gyoza, etc. Their gyoza specifically are fantastic - cooked in cast iron and served with homemade sauces. Highly recommend.

It is fresh and each tastes distinct. Also if youre not too too hungry, try the spicy seafood miso soup. Its slightly smaller than the Udon but its a perfect pairing for the sushi tacos.

Comment: Unique and magical experience here! The layout of the restaurant is so different. Walk in and theres the communal table room. Walk through the long narrow kitchen and you arrive at the individual tables room. Or make a short right and theres a bar/ counter area. Or a little further on the right is another room with a table and theres a tree in the corner too.Lots of wood everywhere - the signs out front, all the tables and chairs. Very strong wood element vibe throughout the restaurant.Service was spectacular, and finally the food. The incredible freaking udon soups. The mushroom udon was like drinking in the forest spirit. The pork udon so good and broth literally made me stronger. The salad, simple and straightforward. Truly great place in all respects

I thought it was a company party, but it was just a long table that you could be seated at. I didnt know if I needed to ask for a private seat. I was uncomfortable at first, but I got use to sitting with strangers. I even chatted with my neighbor a bit! Comment: This was an awesome experience. First, they sat my wife and I at a giant communal table which I thought was interesting. We had enough space, and I have definitely had less space while eating. The table had the coolest collection of 🌵. We got three rolls which were fresh and delicious, one being the yellowtail belly which I would highly recommend. The rolls came with, get this, soy sauce AND soy sauce pre-mixed with wasabi, and their own ladles. We enjoyed the experience so much that we also got dessert, which was interesting and unique: some kind of matcha mochi with red bean topping. I would recommend this place to anyone!

The pork gyoza were fantastic and the shrimp tempura udon made me feel as if I was back in Japan during the winter. I sat at the communal table and was treated to amazing service throughout. Kindness fills the walls of this special place. The roasted green tea was exceptional too. I am enchanted by Samurai Mama — I have made 10 visits to Japan and I am delighted when a US restaurants captures the spirit and hospitality of Japanese cuisine. Samurai Mama captured this Mississippi guy’s heart - it will do the same for you hopefully! ❤️ I will return happily!

Comment: We are Koreans from Seoul, meaning we have pretty good access to authentic, good udons. We got better udon than we’ve got back home! Initially thinking this is udon place, we were hesitant to try their sushi menu- but boy are we glad we tried! They are amazing with basic sushi (which is very hard to come by) because they do use good quality, fresh fish. Some of their fish is freshly flown out of Japan and the taste really speaks for itself.I know they are popular with sushi taco, but if you are an authentic sushi lover, PLEASE do try their chirasi sushi and order side of seaweed. Its amazing. We will make this regular spot for our nyc trips.**We had sukiyaki udon (OMG SO GOOD) + chirashi sushi + Yellow tail rolls.

Comment: I cannot recommend this place enough. The ingredients are of the highest quality. It is a fairly small menu, but everything they do is incredible. The sushi tacos are wonderful. Every bite is fresh, and extremely flavorful. The garlic fried chicken is also amazing. Everything is light, and clean, while not sacrificing flavor. I need to come back to try every dish. The staff were extremely kind, helpful, and attentive. The interior decor was very nice, cozy and elegant. Great date night spot, and fairly priced too. I highly recommend this place.

Comment: Had the sake zaru udon -- salmon tartare with salmon row, wakame, scallions, grated pickled daikon, and bonito -- was take out. Food was ready exactly on time. Came soup separate from dry ingredients. Almost perfect portion size, delicious textures and flavors, super fresh ingredients that were allowed to speak for themselves. Great traditional udon spot. The sushi taco set was awesome, especially the diced cabbage with yuzu that they were served with. The fried chicken was light and delicious. The black edamame was also great. Comment: Great food, the service is really appreciated!Must get: ‘Sushi tacos’ shown in pics. Don’t let the name discern you there’s no tortillas we actually found the style really appetizing as it’s not closed like a hand roll and you can see the beautiful fish presented.‘Seaweed salad’ very gorgeous and bright, never had such fresh seaweed! We liked that you could mix the sauce in to your liking. The fried chicken was okay, perhaps we wanted it a bit more fried? Very tasty however. Skip the shrimp fried gyoza.

Comment: Took a walk, on a beautiful day, across the Williamsburg Bridge to enjoy lunch at Samurai Mama and were not disappointed. Though described as a hole in the wall of sorts, the atmosphere was very unique and the heavy, creative use of heavy wood reminded me of old restaurants, temples, castles in Japan. My wife and I shared the beautiful and delicious Mama’s salad. Though a number of reviewers raved about the gyozas, we were less impressed. Garlic chicken was a good sized serving to share for the price, great taste, fried chicken not oily, nice dipping sauces. Then, we shared the Fatty Mama Ramen. Wow very smooth and tasty. The pork char siu served with it was delicious. Everything was topped off with great, friendly service. We will be back.

Comment: Have tried this place twice and ordered once! Food is consistently good. The fried chicken 🤤😋Cocktails are a bit disappointing. To be fair I asked to remove the ice from highball drinks, however, the right thing to do is to chill the drink first then serve is a martini size glass. Right? Isn’t it a common sense? They didn’t do that step so the drink was not cold enough. Next time I’ll try it with ice.The unfiltered sake was delicious!

Comment: Easy to miss due to non-explicit signage, we almost missed our chance to eat at Samurai Mama (not because of the signage though)... Arriving at 9:15pm, the waiter informed us their last service was at 9:30pm and they had no more tables available (Covid-19 outdoor eating hours I presume the culprit for their limited hours). We accepted our fate and prepared to find another option. At the same time as our acquiescence, an ornery customer barked at the mild-mannered host for not offering a speculated availability he deemed as HIS. The host detested this patrons behavior and skipped over to us to offer us the table.Wow are we glad we got this opportunity! The dishes from Samurai Mama were understated, but supporting the simplicity of their construction were fresh ingredients, ingenious presentation, and muscular flavors. A punchy pork broth accompanied our chewy udon, each slurp louder than the last. Their seasonal sake was a warming complement to the dishes. While the promised black edamame was indeed your standard green, we could forgive them of this transgression. Most surprising were the sushi tacos, which substituted the tortilla shell with a piece of seaweed and your standard taco innards with a hefty nigiri.Despite the initial drama, Samurai Mama was a meal worth fighting for.

Comment: Actual rating: 4.5.I had a great time at Samurai Mama yesterday evening with a group of friends. There are a number of seating options, including seats at the bar (would definitely do that if you are a party of 2), communal table, or booths for 4. The atmosphere is great, service very efficient, and the food is very good. They have an extensive menu which is mostly composed of udon/ramen, as well as sushi (which they serve either as a traditional roll, or as a taco). We ordered a lot of the tacos to share, as well as gyozas, a salmon don and a vegeterian udon. All dishes were absolutely delicious. My favorites were the salmon ikura don, as well as the AB crunchy taco sushi.Samurai Mama also offers a great range of sake, wine and other drinks. The pricing is very reasonable for that kind of cuisine (especially for sushis, i.e. raw fish which is usually pretty expensive).I definitely recommend checking this place out.

Comment: I decided to try this place on noodle day. Delicious food. Quick service.I wish it wasnt quite so expensive for the amount, was expecting a little more meat in my soup. But I cannot find any complaints on quality. Noodles are great. It was pretty filling.I have sensitivity to added preservatives and I didnt have any problems so they surely have a fresh made soup base. They separate the broth from the noodles so you have perfectly cooked and non soggy noodles when you want to eat it.It was about closing when I came in so I got it to go. Plus I was trying to hop on the Revel scooter before midnight...I would definitely love to have dinner in the restaurant. It has a nice ambience and decor.

Comment: Don’t be fooled by its exterior- rusty brown with a Victorian doodles. The food is very Japanese, slightly fusion but dang...u feel so good after slurping down the ramen or udon. I got the ebi tempura udon which has a slight garden herbs flavor but the ebi (prawns) are not just firm but large! My partner got the mama Ramen and boy was that soup flavorful. The fish was so fresh/ clean tasting I fell in love with raw meat without feet again.I had the Yellow Jalapeño roll which is the most zestfully delicious a roll youll ever taste. The staff was friendly and the community table was cozy yet still felt private. Parking was easy nearby and the neighborhood is excellent. Prices werent too crazy and we (2 non drinkers) left there satiated for around $50. The movie theater is a block away making SM perfect for a night out. Id recommend Samurai Mama to anyone with a severe case of the munchies looking for a chill spot to fumble chop sticks.Note to management:Please play background music. Comment: Sushi for the summer, udon for the winter. Fried chicken thighs and as many pork gyoza as you can fit on your table. Seriously dont settle for 6. Dont be a FOOL. Get 10, at least. But poke holes in em, they are hot.

Comment: Very very tasty. I tried cold udon and everything on it was perfect: salmon, broth, caviar, etc. Also had an appetizer and no drinks. Total check for US$ 29 without tip, wich is no cheap, but, well is Williamsburg :/The place it self is well decorated and the service was good and fast.

Comment: Love this place. The noodles are always fresh and chewy, and all their broths are fantastic. The styles with mountain veggies and mushrooms are particularly good. Worth the trip!

Comment: The appetizers are good. I like the udon broth but I thought the udon texture was a bit disappointing. It lacked that bouncy texture that I was used to.

Comment: This place has a phantastic atmosphere and a great food served by pleasant people at the right time, what else can is needed.I will definitely suggest to try their favorite sake, which was incredible, and a chocolate mousse dessert.Portions arent big, but very flavorful.Price for a meal would range from 30 up to 50$ per person.

Comment: Every single dish is amazing. Its beauty lies in the fact that nothing is over season, just right that you can taste flavor of the dish. Also the poached eggs are by far the best one I have had so far in all the ramen shops that I tried.

Comment: Best Udon I have had in NY, nice seating and just delicious bowls of udon noodle soups. I prefer their simpler variations, tried their seafood medley in a pot, wasnt too thrilled. I feel their simple options taste best, one of my fav is the udon served with ume

Comment: Let me start off by saying I LOVE THIS PLACE! Ive been a variety of times and every trip has been fantastic. The combination of great ambiance and wonderful food make this my go-to spot in the neighborhood for brining visitors. The restaurant itself is really cozy with booths and a giant wooden table where everyone sits family style. Its really fun way to switch up your dining experience to sit at the large table. In terms of food, one tip is to go for the lunch specials. They offer a few combinations of sushi, ramen, and rice bowls that include soup and a salad. The portions are huge and really offer a variety of flavors when you include the soup and salad.I can also recommend the pan friend dumplings! Its really a beautiful dish they way that its prepared, Ive never seen a dish presented in that way. They also come with a jam thats really delicious to pair with the dumplings. Finally, try their iced teas that come with fresh mint. Just try everything off the menu!

Comment: Surprisingly warm and flavorful, for such a modest restaurant front. I was blown away at their sea vegetable noodle bowl, and even had left overs. Their potstickers were unique and delicious. The service was incredibly fast and I had such a positive experience there.

Comment: I have never heard about sushi tacos before I got to this place and I have to tell you - their sushi tacos are amazing! And easy to share with a friend. I ate two sets in 5 minutes, thats how delicious they were. Also the mama salad is quite good.

Comment: Great udon, best in Williamsburg for sure, and the ambiance is super, with a giant rustic communal table dominating the center of a large room flanked by cute and cozy booths. Also try the fabulous wasabi margarita. And heads up, no reservations!

Comment: Extremely tasty. Went on Super Bowl Sunday so I have no idea how crowded it typically is, but we were seated without a problem. Dinner for two (without drinks) came to around $30, which is about as good as you can hope for in the neighborhood. Would definitely recommend.

Comment: *Not* cash only anymore, as a few antiquated reviews mentionThe pork belly appetizer, house mama salad and gyoza were all excellent. The fish tacos were good. The only thing that didnt really thrill me was the udon 🍜 itself, but thats because I prefer a richer ramen shoyu instead of a milder broth. The Sapporo draft 🍺 is ice ❄️ cold and creamy. So Id probably just go for beer and apps next time.

Comment: Very solid Japanese restaurant focusing on sushi and ramen. The sushi tacos arent that exciting, really just sushi wrapped up with seaweed in the shape of a taco shell. The pork dumpling appetizer was good, though a bit hard to figure out how to split. The ramen was excellent. Their noodles are delicious though the udon style is a bit harder to eat. The pork in it, along with all the toppings was tasty, flavorful, and delicious. The ginger margaritta was a bit disappointing as I love ginger, and it tasted more like pure alcohol. The staff was ok, and checked in on us often, but not super helpful or friendly.

Comment: A wonderful small restaurant in the Williamsburg neighborhood section of Brooklyn. The Udon noodle soup is the specialty of the house but there is much more on the menu that is also wonderful. The dumplings were very good and interestingly served in a small cast iron pan. The sushi tacos and traditional sushi rolls were also very good. If back in Brooklyn we will be back.

Comment: The atmosphere is lovely, the service is hit or miss and the food is good, but nothing spectacular. I like the Udon, but for 2 day prepared broth and hand pulled noodles I was expecting more of a wow factor!
