Comment: A fantastic hidden gem in the East Village. They have just 6 seats and three seatings per night. The vibe is nice and intimate. The owners Ari, her husband Atsushi (Chef), and manager Daimu are spectacular people. Daimu in particular was the highlight of the dinner - he has a great energy and stellar service. For the uninitiated, this spot is like a sushi omakase but focused less on fish and more tempura. We had ~14 dishes while were were here and our service lasted a little under 3 hours. Would highly recommend if you want a culinary experience!

Comment: Best waiter ever, and some of the prettiest food Ive had. I felt transported to Japan for the couple of hours of the meal. The waiter was very helpful, explaining the food thoroughly and advising me on how to best eat it. The chef worked alone in the kitchen producing one dish after another with lots of care. The wagyu beef was delicious, though I was a bit jealous of the default dish other people got, because it looked really good too. The restaurant is tiny, only six seats at the counter, which makes it cozy, though I wouldnt call it intimate since everyone can see and hear each other.

Comment: One of my favorite restaurants in NY ☺️ wish I could eat here everyday. The customer service is always amazing and ingredients fresh. Its less heavy than sushi omakase and feels healthy even though its fried 😂. Scallop, uni + shiso, snow crab, and seasonal veggies are usually my favorite but I love all the courses.

Comment: Dine solo was fun. The restaurant is really kind of at-home feel, the manager(sorry I forgot his name almost a month ago) was super friendly super nice, I even got a hug from him, lol, was sweet. The tempura were great. They will advise you the sauce for each course if you want to hear, or you can also skip if you want to go with your own way. The shrimp were awesome, and omg the scallop was ridiculously delicious! Got to try that. Uni was another surprise with crispy shiso leaf.I regret for ordering wagyu course, too much for my appetite. the dish was nice, it’s just the nature of Wagyu is very fatty and you may not want it after having many amazing courses of tempura. It’s definitely a good place to hangout. The atmosphere is kinda relaxed and intimate. You will be very comfortable to both talk or stay silent.

Comment: We wanted to indulge in some delicious tempura, so after researching online, made a reservation and visited this place. Unlike traditional tempura, the menu here incorporates French elements. All the dishes were beautifully prepared right in front of us, and the pairing with sake and wine was incredibly enjoyable. The freshly fried tempura had a delicate and perfectly crispy coating, bringing out the flavors of the ingredients beautifully. Engaging in conversation at the counter is also one of the charms of Yokota. Since reservations are limited, I recommend booking well in advance to secure your spot

Comment: A fantastic omakase, at an intimate 6 person counter, consisting of 2 starter courses, 8 pieces of tempura, 1 after dinner dish, and 1 dessert. Everything was flavorful. The tempura was light and crispy. And the service was incredible. I cannot recommend this place enough. Highlights for me were the 2nd starter of 4 dishes, king crab tempura, after dinner dish, and the mackerel tempura.

Comment: In short:An excellent feast of Tempura, but more than that. We definitely recommend it.Breakdown:It was an intimate, friendly, and well-curated dinner with 6 seats per time slot, and I appreciate the space they provided - a nice waiting area, and spacious seating area at the bar. They took the coats gently before serving the food and there was a huge vent to prevent the smell of grease that may came from the tempura-frying process. There was only one Chef, Yokota-san and he did everything from the start to the end, which amazed us.The food were amazing in general, from the start we had a tasty cold vegetable soup, then with a 4-dishes starter set. They were all great and the pork burger on bread was fantastic. The tempura set started after that, all amazing and wed really love to point some out for their perfection: The brussels sprouts (芽キャベツ), the baby red seabream(マダイ), the eggplant(なす), and the white turnip(カブ).We upgraded the course with wagyu steak as well - it was juicy and tender. Tasty. The seared potato cake and the tomatoes were amazing too.The dessert was a nice finish - chocolate cake with home made red bean paste and berry sorbet. Some personal anecdote - when they knew we were learning Japanese they started introducing all the food in double languages, which was cute and sweet. We learned some new words that night. All in all, it was a fantastic night. It was not a cheap meal, but it was reasonable with the high quality of food and the joyful atmosphere they brought to us. We would definitely recommend it and would love to go again.

Comment: I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and we both loved it! Im a huge fan of shrimp tempura but the star in my eyes was the uni and shiso and the scallop was super juicy. We go the A5 Miyazaki beef upgrade and highly recommend its def worth the upgrade so buttery. The dessert we had was sublime and they sang happy birthday to my boyfriend. Service was fantastic with the waiter coming by to explain a little background about the dishes and ingredients, as well as offer recommendations on how best to eat them (with the side servings of seasonings). Ingredients were fresh, seasonal, and cooked to perfection, with the portion sizes being just right over the course of the full omakase. Standouts were the tempura uni wrapped in shiso leaf, scallop, and the watermelon dessert soup that played perfectly against the hot NY summer weather. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a great food experience.

Comment: I don’t write reviews, but after my experience here, I felt compelled to write something.I had 48 hours in NYC and one free meal slot. I asked a friend where I should go for it, and he said if I had one meal slot I should come here. And after eating here, I can whole heartedly agree and will advise anyone else in the same boat to come here as well.We managed to snag a 3 PM reservation (only 6 seats in the restaurant! And 3 seating times), and it was an incredible experience. I texted all my friends saying they needed to come and try this place. The service was amazing — it felt like we were old friends coming back to dine here. And the suggestions for dipping the tempura were spot on. And the food was an amazing experience in and of itself. If you need somewhere to go for a special occasion, I’d recommend here as well as they make you feel quite special.Thank you so much for the lovely and memorable meal!ごちそうさま!

After the visit I can see why everyone speaks highly of the restaurant. It doesn’t have high end style interior but the entire experience here felt more special than any other I had from fine dining. Comment: Thank you Chef Yokota San and his helper Daigo San (not sure if this is spelled correctly) for the unforgettable experience. We are from Canada and we decided to try this special omakase restaurant after reading all the raving reviews. The place is small and intimate and Yokota San was hard at work since the whole day preparing for his services. He is so hardworking and you actually see the art through his delicate dishes. Every plate was prepared with passion, love and art. Daigo San took his time to explain to us in details the ingredients of each plate and the work behind it. He even suggested different sakes that will pair well with the dishes. Every single dish was delicious, and the quantity was just enough to make you feel full. I even had some leftovers and brought it back to our hotel. We are very touched by their kindness, their hard work ethics and most importantly their love and passion for making us memorable dishes that will never be forgotten. I know that taking pictures might be viewed as disrespectful but I cannot help but to capture all the masterpieces and share it with the world. Arigatou Chef Yokota San and Daigo San.

Comment: Amazing meal. I thought most of the items were really tasty. My favorites were the appetizer plate, chrysanthemum leaf, whiting, and dessert. The servers are also very friendly and will chat with you about the food or the chef or anything. It was a great experience, and I would definitely go again if I’m craving tempura.

Comment: Secchu Yokota is special. First, the quality of the tempura here is on par with many high end tempura restaurants in Tokyo. While it is a tempura focused meal, Secchu Yokota is more than a tempura restaurant. The meal combines elements from traditional Japanese cooking, tempura, and yoshoku. While it sounds like fusion, it is not. Its a reflection of who Chef Yokota is, it is accumulation of his life experiences in to a meal. That, to me, is true authenticity which is rare. (Took me several visits to truly appreciate this.)The meals at Secchu Yokota is seasonal, hence while the structure of the meal is the same, the courses served are different based on the time of the year. The meal usually starts with an amuse, then a generous set of appetizers that borrows from Kaiseki but often incorporates yoshoku elements as well. Then comes the tempura courses based on seasonal ingredients. You will be treated to tempura thats thinly battered and crispy, showcase the flavours of the ingredient at it optimal doneness. The shrimp and scallops in particular are always highlights. Depending on the menu you have chosen, the shime(last course) will be a rice course that’s different on each visit. In this past visit, we were served ochazuke, i.e. rice with dashi, topped with snapper.Daimo, who is the main front of house staff, is friendly and gentle. He will help you with suggestions on what condiment goes well with each course and help you choose sakes to have with your meal based on your preferences. On weekends, the chefs wife also helps out at the restaurant, and shes also very friendly and knowledgable on sakes. On the point of sake, Secchu Yokota has an excellent list of sake, so its a great restaurant to try out different types of sake with your meal.Secchu Yokota is a rare gem. Its a family run restaurant that treats you like family. It is a restaurant that serves food with a rare authenticity thats from the heart of the chef. It one of the few places in the city where you will get top tier food, great service, AND the warmth that only comes from a family run restaurant.

Comment: I was here a month ago and now am finding that i really need to give it 5 stars which it deserved.the service was the best of the best, to everyone, all equal, thoughtful and meticulous.the food of course was great. they serve modern style tempura cuisine with thinner coating which you can rarely find in the states. I personally like it more than the og style tempura. I would keep an eye on the menu and plan my next visit.

Comment: Was hesitant to try due to the price... but seeing the reviews online (such as Mikey Chan on youtube), my gf and I decided to try it out. IT WAS FRICKIN AMAZING!!!Though the store is relatively small, but it has a nice and cozy atmosphere. Mostly importantly, it is really clean (including the bathroom). Needless to say, service and food were definitely top notch, as expected from an authenticate Japanese restaurant. Each piece was fried to perfection, and our server was very informative about the ingredients as well as their origins. We were also recommended to pair each piece with different condiments. My favorite piece is the hokkaido scallop, super juicy and sweet!!! As there was a fine balance between the veggies and proteins.Although I have a big appetite and didnt leave with my stomach completely filled, but my gf and I were certainly satisfied with the overall dining experience.I am excited to come back again with the menu is switched up for a different season.

Comment: Its beyond my expectations! From top notch hospitality, to great service, to quality of ingredients, good refined taste, and fine presentation.Daily 3 Omakase schedules, very hard to book if youre alone, for it is only for six seater bar. Very intimate!Think of it as youre a special guest in a kitchen of a chef. This is not your formal fine dining place where its rigid and very quiet. So expect the sounds of a busy kitchen while the chef prepare and cook food for you, then they present and guide you how to enjoy most of your food.Try their Soba Cha (Buckwheat Tea) Its none acidic, caffeine free, it cleanses your palate in between food. They served to me on a vacuum lined special glass as heat proof for your hand.I skipped the Wagyu finale item for I can have Wagyu anytime back in Seattle. Yet, they served me a very good Wagyu Stew over rice which I didnt expect! Its different from their Wagyu Item, this is just a consideration for you as their guest!I give my usual tip percentage, and the manager is more than happy to have it. Almost gives me a hug. These are authentic people who are doing a fine business!I had eaten on much expensive places, but Secchu Yokota had given more than I had expected, felt full, and more than satisfied! To both of you at Secchu Yokota, Kampai! If you havent tried any 5 star Google rated establishment with over hundred reviews this is your chance if youre in NYC. Its very rare! And on restaurant much rarer than the highest Michelin Star restaurants.

Comment: So lucky to have had the opportunity to dine at Secchu Yokota! The setting is intimate and unassuming yet equally elegant. You can really tell theres intention behind every detail, and it feels like youre immersed in a choreographed performance during the meal. I remarked multiple times to my partner that the Chef Yokota looked like he was taking his work very seriously. He never once lost his concentration! The front of house staff members were just as diligent about having an active role in the experience; not only did they introduce each course with precise details on seasonality and importance within Japanese culture, they also were just warm people who could crack jokes with you and chat about recent events. It was such a lovely experience to feel so taken care of but also given the feeling you were in the presence of friends. That perfect blend of the white-glove experience and more cozy touches is truly a rare thing to replicate in the hospitality industry.Onto the food-- high quality tempura restaurants are surprisingly few and far between in NYC. Here you get the good stuff. Although you dont connect the idea of fried food to words like delicate, fresh, and fragrant, this is exactly what Yokota is able to achieve through his work. You are given a choice of salts, a light sauce, and a lemon wedge to season your food to your taste, but the underlying protein or vegetable have extraordinary flavors or textures that can be enjoyed sans seasoning. My personal favorites were the maitake (hen of the woods), shrimp, and juicy scallop! With so much subtlety in flavor in texture, I should have taken my time, but I couldnt help gobbling everything down quickly. The crazy thing about eating all this fried food is that you do not get sick or feel guilty about indulging yourself. Dont get me wrong, the portions are definitely filling (I had to box the last course), but this isnt your local greasy spoon. The experience was top notch and worth every penny.Thank you so much for your service :). Would love to come back again in the future.

Comment: Very nice display of the dishes and Wonderful service overall. Only 6 sittings, so it was a very cozy place. Would recommend to be a great place for tempura, but the others were not as highly rated. One chef prepared all the dishes and ingredients were very fresh. But the uni was very bitter during the tasting. In addition, the chef used one pair of glove without changing or washing hands during the entire service, especially after handling raw fish, touching face, and opening fridges. I would recommend more hygienic practices.

Comment: Delicious meal, highly recommended for anyone wanting a delicious Japanese dining experience in New York.Chef Yokota presents an enjoyable and well thought-out menu, which is accompanied by the manager Daimu’s attentive service and helpful descriptions of each course. The appetiser course resembles small sections of a kaiseki meal, with a wide variety of ingredients used but working well together. Many different flavours here, but all inoffensive and light. The tuna sashimi and duck breast were highlights of the course. The eight courses of tempura are evidently carefully selected. Chef Yokota alternates between seafood and vegetable courses, with each dish being brought perfectly hot and crunchy to the table. Highlights of the tempura included the shrimp, a classic, and the uni wrapped in shiso, something new and unusual but surprisingly delicious. The wagyu course is very different in style from the tempura, but no less delicious. An interesting combination of steak, rice, tempura, and pickles is a reminder to the modernity of the chef. Finally, dessert was a great way to end off the night, with the cherry blossom panna cotta just melting in your mouth.Overall, an amazing experience at Secchu Yokota and I will be back!

The food was so delicious using fresh ingredients with so many items and chef Yokota customizes your Omakase experience (I don’t eat raw seafood and the chef adjusted the menu for my omakase). Pricing was well worth for what you get, you can’t find a price like this for fine dining and a unique experience. Wonderful customer service. Our waiter was Daimu and he was very knowledgeable and friendly. Was so full from this dinner which is rare with fine dining. Only 2 Tempura Omakase in NYC and this is the best one! We were excited to hear that pickup is currently available and couldn’t wait to try.The options were limited on the menu but we still had a hard time making our decisions. We ordered via phone and assigned a pick up time. We were there on time, the staff was friendly, attentive and served everything quickly. We had their Tempura Tendon Set and Tempura Chasoba Set with reasonable $39 and great portion. The food was totally worth the price and amazingly delicious especially the tempura. The tempura was fried properly and well flavored. Our favorite was the shrimp tempura and the eggplant tempura. The rice was decent and the chasoba was light & refreshing.Overall, it was one of the best experiences we have ever had for Japanese bento boxes. Comment: Secchu Yokota is one of the few restaurants that give a sense of seclusion while offering quality tempura omakase. The outside is very unassuming with the only indication of the resturant existing is the sign above the establishment. The front window is blocked off with an semi-opaque sheet that gives the interior a cozy feeling. Inside, you will be greeted warmly by the hostess, who is actually Chef Yokotas wife. Our coats and bags were taken and stored on a rack so that we were seated comfortably in front of the open kitchen, bar style. The interior is well done with wooden floors and wooden tables. Near the front is a couch for those who want to relax after dinner and order additional items. There is a good selection of alcoholic drinks, mostly wine or beer and a extensive list of different sake choices. The course starts with a vegetable soup in these insulated airgapped cups, which I hadnt seen before. It is followed by a cooked tuna roll with very good daikon. A chilled noodle dish topped with tomato and wasabi roe on the side followed. The main section is after, which is the tempura dishes. You are given lemon, wasabi salt, charcoal salt and tempura sauce to enhance the flavors as needed. We had a variety of tempura dishes such as mushrooms, scallops, bamboo shoots, tiger shrimp, king crab legs, sea eel, uni, and others. Each tempura dish is cooked in front of us and served with an description of the tempura as well as the origin of the ingredient. All of them were done particularly well with the scallops being the highlight. If you werent full enough, a wagyu beef sandwich is prepared medium rare to rare with a hint of wasabi, which was excellent as well. The dinner then concludes with an excellent dessert consisting of chocolate flan, strawberries and red bean.During the entire 2 to 3 hour experience, the chefs, waiter and hostess were very kind and chatted with us throughout the dinner. Overall, this is a unique experience that warrants repeat visits for those looking for culinary excellence in secluded and cozy environment.

Everything from the creative takes on soups, salads, and rice dishes to the impeccably prepared tempuras of king crab, scallop, anago, tiger shrimp, uni, and various types of vegetables (better than Tempura Matsui imo), to the outstanding service and the intimate atmosphere combines to make this place a must-try for anyone wanting to enjoy a good meal. Ive been to this place 4 times already but will definitely be back for more.

Comment: Hands down the best tempura experience in New York City for me. Not only are the ingredients fresh and the non-tempura components of the omakase courses are very creative, the price does not get too crazy at all. They seem to have two sittings during the week in a cozy 6 seater setting. Highly recommended. I will be back soon!

Comment: WOW! My new favorite place in NYC! The very best ingredients expertly prepared, plus attentive service in an intimate 8-seat atmosphere. Its true that the best restaurants in NY are often under the radar. Personally, I think Secchu Yokota serves the best meal in the city. Cant wait to go back!

Comment: Really great service, and delicious food. Super nice chefs/staff/team. Good range of dishes. It reminds me of good tempura spots in tokyo. Apparently you can special request some additional items a la carte but should request beforehand because they get just the amount of ingredients for omakase reservations. For example extra shrimp, etc.

Comment: One of New York Citys finest omakase experiences. It was truly a delight to be lead through such a delicious variety of courses by Yokota-san and his wonderful team. Ari-san made us feel right at home from the moment we got there. Nicholas-san explained many of the ingredients and nuances of preparing them and Daimu-san was an outstanding guide and kept us smiling all night. Every course was something special and with lemon, salt, wasabi salt, and a top notch dipping sauce you are given the opportunity to make every bite your own. This restaurant is truly a gem in the East Village.

Comment: I would give ten stars if there was an option! I always felt as if I went to an amazing concert or show. It’s not just a dining experience. It’s like an art you can eat and enjoy. From the beginning to the end, you will be amazed. Everything is served in the best way- not only its taste and how they cook, but also the timing and the order of the foods coming. With the quality and generous portion of the foods, I feel this place is very inexpensive. You must try!

Comment: As a Chinese I guarantee you will never eat better fried game (they call it tempura). It really retains the original taste of the ingredients, but really makes the ingredients extremely detailed and delicate., every chewing is happiness

Comment: Great dinner. The omakase includes a few delicious appetizers (tonight it was a parsnip broth to start, then grilled mackerel, and poached fertilized egg & chicken pate) and then assorted tempura (shrimp, scallop, king crab, etc.). If you’ve never had “real” tempura then you’re missing out. Not greasy. Not heavy. Wonderfully light and the flavor of the ingredient shines through. Excellent service (they actually are happy you are dining there). Overall a great experience.

Comment: What an incredible place. An intimate, comfortable yet exquisite meal. Some of the finest flavors Ive had in New York City. The simplistic brilliance of Japanese cuisine w a touch of French influence from the master Yokota himself. I very highly recommend this place for those who like no frills, genuine food lovers. Top favorite meals in NYC.

Comment: Amazing food, and super intimate setting with only seating for 8 in the whole restaurant. This place should be getting a Michelin Star soon! Excellent value as well for either $65 or $95 for their Tempura Omakase. Very unique items in their tempura, such as fish, chicken, and scallops. The omakase also includes dessert!

Comment: First time I have ever publicly shared my opinion about a meal, mostly because my level of criticism is quite strong - so I keep to word of mouth.I came to this restaurant on a Friday night with my girlfriend. What I experienced was unlike anything I have encountered to date. It was an intimate dining experience put on by professionals. Fresh creative dishes that were constructed with purpose. A true team where everyone performs beautifully together. No phones - no BS especially no NYC BS.Incredible curated selection of wine and Sake. I asked our waiter for a glass of white wine and a glass of sake over the course of the meal, I cannot emphasize the amount of value it added to the experience (Professionals). As true to Japanese dining as one can get. Bravo on adding value to the world and the restaurant scene in New York City.I cant wait to return when the menu changes and do it all over again! 🇯🇵🇺🇸
