Comment: The cocktails were very good and so was the food. Me and a friend shared the appetisers so we both tried the challah and the fried lions mane dish. Both were very good. I had the vegetarian hot pot while my friend had the waygu pastrami sando. She said she wasnt a fan of waygu as pastrami because she prefers pastrami to be a little fattier. The 2 drinks i had persephones poison and jacobs milk were awesome!

Comment: Was a little trepidations considering how hyped this place is, but it was surprisingly impressive. The matzoh ball soup ramen was very tasty, a delicious marriage of two different soup flavors. The matzoh balls were fluffy and the soup had a lot of chicken elements. Great marinated egg too!The okonomyaki was also excellent with a kraut flavor. The wagyu pastrami was ok, but I’d try something else from the menu next time. Drinks were great and the menu had a lot of options. Employees were super kind!

Comment: We went for the 3 course dinner on Christmas day and were blown away. The food was delicious. A lot of fusion places will put one country’s food in a taco or something and call it fusion. It’s lazy. But not here. This place actually carefully crafted Jewish-Japanese fusion dishes that work amazingly well together. Will absolutely be returning.

Comment: As the name suggest an interesting contrast of Jewish and Japanese cuisine. Definitely add the egg to any ramen. Some of the more exotic and luxurious dishes when opened are no longer on the menu. The A5 Waygu hotpot is on my list to try.

Comment: Highlyyyyy recommend. The brunch was great- the matzah ball soup ramen is better than any other attempt I’ve had. The rustic fries were a great shared app. Shout out to our server who found a way to add just broth to our check so my wife could literally drink the broth.

Comment: For as much hype as this place has gotten, and for as cool and unique as the concept is, the food didnt quite hit the mark for me. the apps were great: delicious challah, and the Jew Egg (though, as noted elsewhere, not Japanese in the slightest) was divine, if overpriced. my matzo ball ramen was solidly executed but uninteresting. my date was disappointed by the lack of vegetarian mains and went with the temomi, which isnt discernibly Jewish.still curious about the wagyu pastrami, but looking at photos of it, not sure Im curious enough for a return visit. I do want this place to survive and return to its former glory—I hope they update the menu!

Comment: Omg this was *incredible*. between my group we had most of the menu at the time, and everything was awesome. Genuinely, the matzah ball ramen was better matzah ball soup than Ive had at some delis, it was sooo good. the wood ear karaage was also incredible -- absurdly tender and also just an excellent karaage in general.(for those looking for it: they have both indoor & outdoor seating)

Comment: Amazing food, great ambiance, and cozy setting. The food is not only a unique and inspired fusion of Jewish and Japanese delights, its simply delicious on its own. The ingredients and service are first class and the combo of tastes leave you simulteanously satisfied and wanting more. The presentation is also great and I wish I took pics of the food but Im not really one of those guys (not that theres anything wrong with people who do take slick pics :) Highly recommend

Comment: I was excited to try this fusion Japanese + Jewish restaurant but left wanting a bit more. Came here with a friend for dinner and we shared the lions mane karrage, the sake kasu challah and the matcha parfait for dessert. I got the matzoh ball ramen and was super hyped to try it. The broth is really rich but I was disappointed that there was only one piece of chicken and one matzoh ball. To its credit the matzoh ball was really good and the egg was cooked perfectly. I just wished I had more of it.I also wish the restaurant had been playing music in the background because I felt like it could have heightened the experience.Overall the food is tasty but I wasnt blown away by anything and Im not sure Id come back due to limited menu.

Comment: Took my partner here for our anniversary and this place has such a unique fusion concept. Atmosphere was a bit overwhelming and loud because so many tables were packed into a small restaurant but it was 100 worth it because the food was delicious. The waiter did a great job of recommending things and explaining the less intuitive things on their menu which led us to try some things we hadnt even been thinking of. Would definitely go here again but might choose outside seating next time.

Comment: There were points of brilliance: the scallops were amazing. The challah was incredible. But the cocktails were pretty meh - I don’t know if they were over-shaken but they didn’t have much complexity or depth. It was good, not great.

Comment: You can slurp your matzo ball soup ramen, but you feel guilty about it thinking of grandmas reaction. Ramen noodles had a good chew. The Matzoh ball was fluffy but small—only one small piece of chicken. Service was good and very friendly.

Comment: The service was excellent and the food was good, but I didn’t feel it was anything special. We ate family style and had around 7-8 dishes and they were good, just not all that memorable. The Lions Mane Karaage was very good! Matzoh Ball Ramen sounds fun, but I felt like I’d had better ramen and matzoh ball soup elsewhere 😅

Comment: Remarkable 10/10 food held back by just OK atmosphere and service given the price point. We were a group of 5 for dinner and LOVED every single dish we ordered. Incredible, unique and memorable flavors all around.Highlights include the okonomiyaki, special wagyu tartare, scallops, mazemen and ramen. The scallops, while small for the price, were a flavor bomb and very rich so a little went a long way. The ramen was a delicate and perfected fusion of matzoh ball soup and ramen. You get the simplicity and comfort of a traditional jewish soup with a slight richness and fattiness of a ramen. If you go in expecting this and less so traditional ramen youll be pleased. The cocktails were nicely balanced and flavorful as well. The challah was fine but not worth the price point. My main issue was that for as pricey of a meal this was at the end of the day (primarily driven by the >$20 per small plate menu), I was underwhelmed by the service. I felt it to be way too nonchalant and relaxed for what I was spending. There wasnt that great attention to our table and often times saw the staff on their phones. The food is top notch but I felt the service and atmosphere needed to be in greater parity to complete the dining experience

Comment: Pretty unique concept. Really liked scallops, challah, mushroom karaage (though it would have been better with a sauce or some acidity via lemon wedges), the ramen, and the dessert parfait. Underwhelmed by the Jew Egg and the okonomiyaki. Good drink selection and nice ambience, but very difficult to get staff’s attention despite not being a large space. Toilet has a bidet and is very clean with excellent wallpaper.

Comment: So I’d been stalking their Instagram for ages. Finally had a reason to come to NY from West coast & immediately made a reservation here.Honestly had like an idyllic dinner- small cozy restaurant, we chose outdoor seating where people ( and doggo) watching was good. Our server was friendly, enthused, hella patient. Made good recommendations, told us about off menu options.A bonus surprise: the cocktails were excellent! We each had two, I tasted all four and holy cow it’s been way too long since I had a cocktail which truly deserved it’s price tag like so. Jacob’s Milk, Fauci Ouchie, Velvet Evening, Lychee Saketini. Also loved the food. Okanamiyaki was amazing as were the lions mane mushrooms, beef tartar top notch absolutely lick your bowl yum.We enjoyed our two noodle dishes as well- not quite as impressive as the appetizers but also who knows if that’s partially coz we were getting full already. It does seem more Japanese than Jewish- all delicious. No tummy space for dessert but they looked fab. Tidy restroom w ramen wallpaper. They were good to let us linger over our drinks long after we finished dining which I appreciate. We both loved it. Would definitely return. We even had a little bit of take home leftovers.

Comment: I’d like to start with the wait staff. They were excellent and it made the experience a really good time. The food was a mixed bag. I was surprised at the portion to price ratio. The food was good and some plates were very tasty. Others were small for the price and average. We ordered on whims and enjoyed the meal on a whole. But it was pricey for what we got. Was it worth it? I have to say for the idea of it yes but quantity to plate and price.. I swallowed hard when I saw the bill. I recommend ordering as you go. The drinks were lovely and again great wait staff.

Comment: As a vegetarian I enjoyed the mushroom ramen-like dish, the spring Jew egg (the sauce was delicious!), and the challah. The lions mane mushroom wasn’t bad but I didn’t love how fried it was. All of the food tasted good but nothing seemed particularly fusion about it apart from the general presence of both Jewish and Japanese dishes in one restaurant.

Comment: I stopped in after having this on my radar for a long time. The matza ball ramen smelled exactly like my grandmothers when she would make chicken stock. It was hearty and flavorful. I got the extra cost soy marinated egg and foie gras dumpling, yes one, which were worth it.If youre expecting this to be a matza ball soup, fix your expectations, its ramen. For a drink I got the Jacobs Milk, which is a magically balanced cocktail with Roku gin. I recommend those two and will be back to get more recs.

Comment: Overall the food had good flavor, but wasn’t worth going out of my way to eat here and jump my restaurant queue. The dessert was the hero of the meal as the Ramen didn’t have the full bodied flavor I was expecting and was more like a light chicken soup. Comment: Shalom Japan has been on my bucket list for a while and we were interested in Japanese and Jewish fusion dishes. There brunch and dinner menu are different which was a little disappointing for us. We got Jew Egg ($16), Okonomiyaki ($17), Wagyu Pastrami Sando ($21) and Sesame Temomi Mazemen ($18) to share with a group of four. The portion was okay but the price was kind of high. The taste was overall okay and we love their mazemen so much which the sauce was creamy with chewy noodles.

Comment: Wanted to be obsessed with this place so so much. The service was really good and our server was absolutely lovely. We ordered the challah and the Jew egg to start. Highlight of the meal was the Jew egg hands down. For the mains we got the ramen with an extra matzoh ball and the hot pot with the truffle. The ramen was … eh. The matzoh ball addition was a cute thought but I wouldn’t get it again. The hot pot was delightful though, and the truffle was a nice touch. Ultimately it filled us up and we had a good time, but this might be a one and done for me.

Comment: We had a group dinner there a few weeks ago and definitely enjoyed the food! The challah starter was good but I felt expensive for the size ($7 for a piece of bread). The dessert of banana pudding with challah was my highlight. I had the matzo ball ramen which was great while my friends enjoyed the other mains such as the Lox bowl (see pictures). I wish the restaurant had been playing music in the background I felt it could have heightened the experience. The only other reason I didn’t rate this a 5 was because they charge you for using your credit card. I really feel that the restaurant should sort this out and stop putting this charge on their customers. If this is suppose to be an established $$$ restaurant then don’t charge this, it’s ridiculous!

Comment: Jewish+Japanese food, absolutely amazing combo. The egg was close to perfection, the wagyu pastrami sandwich just as tasty as any other NY deli and the matzo ball ramen delicious. Desserts were great too. The restaurant is intimate, not too big, cozy, pretty and the service extremely nice. I totally recommend it and I am definitely going back soon to try the rest of their menu!

Comment: We had an amazing meal at Shalom Japan. From the moment we arrived we were treated well by all staff. Being our first visit, our waiter walked us through the entire menu, answers all of our questions and gave us some recommendations, most of which we took. We had duck wings, okonomiyaki with pastrami and matzo ball soup ramen, and the sweet potato cheesecake for dessert, and didn’t leave a scrape on the plates. Each dish was unique and a true fusion of Japanese and Jewish cuisine. Blown away and can’t wait to return and eat the rest of the menu.

Comment: Such a unique fusion we had to try it. Our favorite was the teriyaki duck wings, it fell off the bone and the sauce was amazing. Matzo ball ramen was flavorful. The wagyu pastrami sando was disappointing, nothing wagyu about it, it was just a regular dry pastrami. Love the concept, but some items worked and some didnt.

We got:Teriyaki duck wings - extremely tender, great sauce, almost ordered secondsOkonomiyaki - I cannot do this justice but I almost fell out of my chair, just order itJapanese Hot Pockets - this was the only thing that wasnt over the top great. Theyre good but you can skip them.Challah - warm bread and butter, easyMatzoh Ball Ramen - very tasty, kind of like a cross between chicken noodle soup and ramen, plus matzoh. Comment: I was fortunate to come here last night. I have come before and last night I wanted to share this with my closest friend to show him what magic tasted like. When you arrive to this staple of Williamsburg its ideally placed on a busy corner overlooking the bridge and across the park. You are amongst the people and traffic and this place can be an immersive experience. The staff, we had privilege to be served by Diandra. Her personality rang through. She made us feel welcome and comfortable throughout the whole experience. The cocktails, were impeccable and crafted by the master bartender Rose. You will not find a more experienced tactician and balanced cocktail than what she provides. The food, the food was full of whimsy and joy. The tastes were rife with the familiar and nostalgia in an unfamiliar setting. Japanese and Jewish fusion is the stuff of genius and perfected by the crew in the back. A shout out to Chef Kristin, the executive sous chef, for crafting the magic I spoke of before. The complexity of the dishes, the flavors in which she coaxed and the combination of ingredients they use is nothing but sheer perfection. I can sing more praise on her and the meal itself.Lastly, the manager Rob provided this warmth and love that he has harbored and cultivated throughout this pandemic and beyond is indicative of the love and passion he has for this place and the people he serves. You will feel welcomed and loved. You will leave satisfied and you will want to come back as soon as you can. Perfection for me.

Comment: Good but not great.Had the Matzoh Ball Ramon. Tasted very good. Excellent matzoh ball. But the noodles were all stuck together so they were obviously stored and just dropped in the soup prior to serving. Took a while to have to aerate them. Also there was only one piece of very fatty chicken thrown in. Ordered the extra egg which was cooked to perfection. Also had the Pastrami Sando. Which is just pastrami on Japanese white bread and mustard. But for $19, there was maybe 4 ounces of meat on the sandwich which doesn’t really compare with a traditional sandwich. The pastrami was excellent though. I asked if they would sell me the meat by the pound and they would - $56 a pound. Wow.Nice place.Worth trying once.

We got a tasting of so much, left full and a little mind blow. Everything was delicious, the flavors were intense and full. Everything was very well thought out.We got the Sake Kasu Challah. The raisin butter that came with it was incredible. The Toro Toasts are their take of bagels and lox (just a small bite but great). The Jewish Egg was a soft boiled egg deep fried like a falafel served on a salad. Very fun! The market vegetable ramen was incredibly flavorful. Some of the best ramen I have every had. Matzo ball ramen and lox bowl were pretty good, especially the foie gras dumplings. Great cocktails as well, although everything is a little pricier than it should be. Comment: Foody dining that’s great for its novelty. The menu is small and ideal for a group of, say 4-5, so you can order near everything and treat it like a sampling. We went with two people and had to pick and choose. There was no disappointing dish, but no real standout either, which didn’t really detract from our experience because you’re sort of eating the concept of their fusion as a whole. If you make it to desert, try the ricotta cheesecake. It’s less popular than the challah bread pudding, but just order the challah a la cart. Thinking back, this might have been my favorite course (and that’s coming from someone whose “team savory.”)

Comment: I wanted to eat Shalom Japan ever since I heard the name. Hilarious! It has a really nice atmosphere and gracious service. My favorite dishes were the teriyaki duck wings; the scallop sashimi with turnip, Asian pears and shiso; okonomiyaki with pastrami and bonito flakes. We really enjoyed the matzo ball ramen . The texture of the matzo ball was perfect. The Jew egg was nicely executed in terms of technique, but the falafel coating needed more seasoning.
