Comment: This place is freaking incredible!! This is my first time at Soboku. I came here last night with my friends. First impressions is the server. She greeted us with the warmly welcome and the restaurant atmosphere is very cozy and we love how they open the kitchen. Its very neat and clean.We started with our drinks, so good! We started with Kibinago and salmon calpacio. Omg! the salmon calpacio were mind-blowing! This is so great! For our main, we ordered Miso ramen, Saba teriyaki and Katsu curry. Their food is another level. We finished all of the food.Everything is incredible! Service is excellent. I love the music and all the vibe in the restaurant. Highly recommended! I definitely be back!

Comment: There’s nothing better than Japanese comfort food and at Soboku, they have a range of apps, Japanese curry, teishoku sets, ramen, donburi, and burger options served w/ tater tots. Love it when places have cheese as an option to add to the curry, it makes it so much better, trust me! Go for the saba shioyaki (grilled & salted mackerel) teishoku set which comes with rice & miso soup if you’re looking for a lighter option that’s not fried but don’t stop yourself from ordering the creamy crab meat croquettes!

Comment: Food here didnt really wow me, but it was good. I had the curry ramen and the broth was very thin and I felt that it was lacking in the thickness and level of flavor I would expect from curry broth. The noodle texture was on point with the right amount of chewiness, but for a 19$ bowl I did expect a bit more oomph. My favorite appetizer was the tuna tacos, if you like spicy tuna and Sriracha mayo it hits those check boxes.

Friendly and welcoming service, comfortable seatings, and most importantly affordable price—all apps below $12 and all mains below $20! Seriously I don’t think I can find many spots in NYC that serve Japanese cuisine with this quality at this price point.＊ Karaage**Guys this app only costed $8 and it came with 6 big pieces! Under the crispy shell it was the tender and flavorful chicken meat. The karaage tasted extra flavorful with the spicy mayo, which also balanced out the greasiness.＊ Crab Meat KorokkeThe outside of croquette was so crispy with a thin breading, while the inside was creamy and gooey with a subtle kick of crab meat. The tartar sauce served on the side was so yum that I could literally dip everything with it. It will be nice if they can add chicken nanban on their menu with the tartar sauce!＊ Salmon Carpaccio**OMG this yuzu soy dressing was FIRE! The sliced raw salmon soaked up the citrusy yet tangy dressing, creating a harmonious fusion of tastes.＊ Gyu DonTopped with a perfectly cooked onsen egg, the beef and the onion were well marinated. Sadly the rice was part mushy part dry. It would also be better if the beef was thinly sliced and not overcooked. We’ve reflected this problem with our server, so hopefully it will be improved next time :)＊ Kurobuta Katsu Teishoku***I was impressed by the authentic plating of this tonkatsu set! The pork chop was deep fried in a thin layer of bread crumbs. Don’t forget to dip your pork into the sweet and tangy tonkatsu sauce to complete the dish. Might sound weird lol but my favorite thing from a katsu set is the lettuce tossed with sesame sauce, and of course they did it well.＊ Lychee Soda, Yuzu SodaMy Recommendations:Salmon Carpaccio, Karaage, Kurobuta Katsu TeishokuWorth returning? Comment: New spot, just opened up three months ago. Had the Berkshire pork cutlet Katsu with curry over rice, and the poached egg along with a Asahi Super dry draft beer. The pork cutlet was thick and moist, curry was flavorful and thick, poached egg was well seasoned and cooked well. Beer was crispy and a great pairing. Service was great and friendly! Always attentive and never had any issues. Overall, definitely worth a second visit to see the rest of the menu.

Our favorites were the spicy tuna tacos, the Sobuku salad, and the cucumber salad.The rice was a bit chewy on the mains.Kurobuta Katsudon was decent. The pork was a bit tough and I dont think there was enough broth or maybe the broth wasnt flavorful enough? I wanted this dish to be amazing since its one you cant get in the hood and I love it!BF enjoyed the shrimp tempura with Japanese CurryThe shrimp was nice and crispy. I dont think Im enough of a fan of Japanese Curry to judge it.We would go back and try other stuff. I really loved that salad.

Comment: SOBOKU just opened my initial thoughts are: amazing Japanese food at an affordable price, cozy atmosphere to catch up with a friend, and 10/10 service.For appetizers we ordered the cucumber in sesame oil, crab meat korokke and salmon carpaccio. I really enjoyed how refreshing the cucumbers were and the salmon was good quality! The crab meat korokke was very unique- I’ve never had anything like it. It was crispy on the outside and super creamy in the inside.For mains we ordered the spicy maguro don and hambagu Kate. The maguro was fresh and they gave a good amount of fish!! The curry was soooo good- definitely recommend ordering it with cheese. The hamburger was juicy and curry was the perfect balance of sweet and mildly spicy (not salty at all)Can’t wait to come back!
