Comment: The bento here is delicious. You can eat Japanese food at reasonable prices. However, from a Japanese perspective, the portions are large, so it may be better to share one bento box with two people.

Comment: Absolutely worth it, the hand rolls were so good, I ordered salmon and tuna/toro, and got chicken karrage and tune onigiri, my boyfriend and I absolutely devoured it and went back the next morning for more. For $5 a hand roll and around $3 an onigiri, great value and coming back for sure

Comment: Youll find most of the essential items from Japan, and occasionally a few Taiwanese products too (though for a wider selection of Taiwanese items, H Mart is your best bet). Regardless, Sunrise has got you covered for all your basic needs. As for the prepared food section, its decent, but youll likely be more impressed if youre not familiar with how to cook Japanese cuisine or simply dont have the time to do it yourself.

Comment: Its a wonderful place for Japanese people, especially those who live abroad and dont have access to many Japanese ingredients or sweets. My family was very excited and we were there for about an hour and a half. I bought a lot of sweets and groceries of my choice. I was especially impressed by the lotus roots that were in the water. There was also a Japanese-style bento box, so both my stomach and heart were satisfied. The store staff were also very kind.

Comment: Consider this place a hidden gem in midtown! They have a bunch of authentic Japanese food ranging from bentos, hand rolls, sushi, ramen, etc. My bf and I ordered the Negi Toro (fatty tuna), Spicy Salmon, and Eel & avocado handrolls and they made for a great snack for an affordable price of about $15. The hand rolls tasted delicious and the fish was fresh. The highlight of our meal were the red bean mochis. It wasn’t too sweet and the skin was the perfect thickness. Making this place my go to spot for comfort Japanese cuisine!

The food is very fresh and hight quality with many entrees or snacks to take away or eat in. The staff will make certain items fresh for you just go to the register and place your order then pay and go upstairs to relax till your number is called.

Comment: Sadly not as good as pre-pandemic. Used to have a large selection of sushi, poke, and cooked food from katsu to fried rice. Now mostly replaced by fresh produce. The reduced in-office worker traffic is probably the cause and affecting not just this store. Still disappointed that some of my favorite foods at such a convenient location is no longer there. Katagiri a few blocks away has an ok selection, if sushi and cooked food is what you are looking for.

Comment: Very nice and unique store split between a kitchen and a supermarket. The kitchen is my go-to, with hot food made to order or great pre-made plates of food you cna microwave. They also have a sit down space and a decently sized menu of options. They have a great vibe with Pokémon Mart music in the background. Theres rice bowls, poke, sushi, ramen, soba, udon, and curry rice for to-order food. Pre-made foods include trays of meal sets, yakisoba, dessert, and rice balls. I recommend the shougayaki or gyudon rice bowl.It can get a bit crowded during lunch time since its a popular place among workers in the area.

Comment: Great Japanese supermarket in the Bryant Park area. They have two storefronts; one is their supermarket with some pre-prepared foods and sushi. While the other is more of a cafeteria/ restaurant style. Things here can be a little overpriced, especially if you can get the item at competing supermarkets. However, they offer a great selection of Japanese vegetables, snacks, goods. For non-perishable items, they are often competitive with online retailers, however, I always check with Amazon if Im browsing teas or other products that I can get shipped. In their supermarket section, they have fish for sashimi or sushi that is often reasonably competitively priced. On the second floor, they have some household goods and beauty products that are often overlooked if you only look at the main ground level of the market. Excellent friendly service. However, make sure to bring your own bag because they charge a lot more than the usual $0.05 per bag.

Comment: Small GEM in Midtown, NYC.If you are a group of 4-8 ppl, hungry, and looking for a place that is available for a meal in Midtown, You might get it only in your dream. However, it has existed! Right here at Sunrise Mart. Price is very reasonable, many items, and delicious (De-Li-Cious-Su; Japanese accent, lol)We had two bowls, 1 was a Grilled salmon with Chicken karaage, its good but nothing special compared to other places. The second, which was Gyusuji (Udon with Yam, and Beef stew) Id say this was my favorite all the time. I must have it when I went to Sunrise Mart especially the one located in Brooklyn (and Brooklyn branchs soup flavor was stronger too) Udon was smooth but firmed, Soup was tasty but not too heavy nor thick. Beef stew might be cut a bit too small but thats ok. having along with a calpico or tea would send me to heaven. lmao. They have a microwave and restroom (YEAH!)I believe the best meal here is Gyusuji, and the second was Beef over rice. Dont forget to try it. ARiKaTo!This wasnt my first time stopping by and surely its not the last time too. recommended!!!!#director_eat_out

Comment: After leaving my doctors appointment I stumbled upon Sunrise Market and was in love! As a foodie, authentic ethnic grocery stores make my heart smile and I am a LOVER of Asian cuisine. As I perused the store I said to myself wow I wished they had a restaurant and as I walked out the door and looked to my left, behold! My wish came true!I was overwhelmed, in the best way possible. Watching the chefs cook in real time enhanced the experience. They have pre-made bento boxes, sushi bowls and plates that are already prepared. Or, you can order noodle, rice, dumpling, etc dishes freshly made for you in real time.I ordered the Spicy Tuna Onigiri, Pork & Beef Dumplings, Tanuki Udon Noodles and ohmygawddddddd it was fantastic. Woof. They also offer, which Ive never seen before, Japanese pasta dishes. I vowed to come back and try at a different time because the descriptions looked amazing. For Covid-19 measures, patrons can order take out or sit outside for dining, if you sit inside you must write down your information for contact tracing and your temperature must be taken. All in all, visit. Do it. I dare you. Youll love it.

Comment: There is no snack oasis in Midtown like Sunrise Mart from the variety of sweet, salty, spicy, sour, crunchy, or chewy eats from candies to chips and more to satisfy hunger pangs with colorful packaging and kooky designs. of course, Sunrise Mart sells a lot more than just snack foods...one can find from a variety of Japanese ingredients to Japanese frozen foods to ready-made meals like bento boxes and smaller prepared bites like onigiri. Sunrise Mart covers a lot of needs.normally, i grab Pocky (good selection of flavors) or onigiri bc either is a great on-the-move snacks.the store itself is fairly small and narrow. theres a lot of products. the store at times feels more crowded than it is. that said, checkout lines move pretty decently depending on how many cashiers are on duty. since the pandemic, the store feels less crowded bc of the lack of people in midtown getting lunch or early evening meals. the produce items are close to the front. the snacks are towards the middle. and everything else is on shelves or in refrigerated units.service is fairly fast and efficient.

They have a small cafe-like area where you can get onigiri ($1.45 & $1.75 w/salmon), noodles, rice w/protein, ramen and other foods; there’s coffee and sweets. The Mart is small but still has a good variety of snacks, condiments, frozen foods and other stuff.

The place is unassuming and has a cozy upstairs dining area, a good place to get your Japanese snacks and groceries too. I only wish they would heat up the meals that were already prepared and boxed, but they do prepare made to order meals too, such as rice bowls and soup noodles. Nice place overall to visit.

Comment: I’ve been here before to grocery shop. Pretty decent selection for the space. First time getting prepared food as I now work in the area. They have food in the fridge, some hot ready to go, and hot food made to order. Getting food to order is a little confusing at first. You order from someone with an order pad, pay at one of the registers, then wait to pick up. What’s confusing is the people waiting around the hot food area and the various menu signs. Most people waiting have ordered but just check. All in all it’s a good place to get a decent quality meal under $10 in this area

Comment: Katsu pork cutlet sandwich was tasty and $5.49 (cheaper than ootoya). Gyu-don $7.95 was fine. Its the authentic and affordable taste of Japan that people who know Japanese quality would go to.Entrance is accessible but to get to the back of the store thw aisles are a bit of a squeeze. Eat in area is not that big so I recommend take - out and eat at Bryant Park if weather is good.Good Japanese drink selection too.

Comment: I have been going to Sunrise Mart for many years. I usually buy their 50-pack of sushi nori, along with some excellent kosher tea from Japan and my favorite baked item which is green tea an pan--best around 11 a.m. shortly after it is made. I have had all three of their meals including breakfast or morning service in their upstairs section where the food is always fresh and tasty. Comment: Lapin and I came here one day for lunch as we both work close by. Sunrise Mart is a mix between a grocery store, bakery, convenience store and a deli counter setup. In the front, when you first enter -- they have a small bakery set up where you can purchase sweet treats from behind the glass doors and hot/cold beverages. To the left, they have open refrigerators that sell premade bento boxes, sushi rolls, onigiri, and a bunch of other goodies. In the back, you can buy packaged goods, frozen goodies, chocolates/candy/treats, and other stuff you would find in a small Japanese store. They manage to fit a good selection in the small space so depending on when you go...it might be a it cramped. Some of the items, you could find cheaper in other places but most of the items are decently priced. They also have a hot deli counter where you can order soups, entrees and appetizers that are made in front of you in case you dont want any of the premade ones. They also have an upstairs eating area where you can go eat all the little goodies you uncovered.

Comment: This is a welcome addition in the wake of the closing of Kaguya just a few stores down on the same block. This is neatly, organized, and presented well enough that non-Japanese speaking folks (like myself) can get a bit adventurous and try their hand at Japanese food/groceries.The main draw of this place for me was the hot food bar. You can order typical Japanese lunch fare like curry, udon, etc. and watch as its being prepared in front of you. They also have pre-made sandwiches and bento boxes (with a microwave on the second floor bar to bring it up to temp of your liking). This place also doubles as a Japanese supermarket. They have a wide variety of Japanese snacks, drinks, meal components - even things like cosmetics, appliances, and cookware to get you started into a foray into Japanese cuisine.

Comment: Very small and kind of hidden supermarket in St. Marks, Sunrise has a lot of basic Japanese cooking necessities. They also have a decent snack selection as well. Its a good alternative if you cant get to Mituswa or an H Mart, which are larger in size and selection. The prices are moderate but not the cheapest Ive seen. But overall the location is clean and well organized. Its a good alternative if you cant get to a bigger supermarket.

They open until 9 pm which is convenient for those working late but still wish to get some Asian groceries.
