Comment: The former Sous Chef of the original Nobu downtown has moved KURYU from Brooklyn to Roslyn in Long Island and the quality has only gotten better. The $150 omakase is very filling and I loved the way everything was coursed and the quality was tops. I am sure the smaller sushi sets for $40-55 are also wonderful. Chef Teruo uses fresh local seafood from the adjoining market as well as imported from Japan. This is worth a trip from the city or if youre in Nassau county, conveniently located next to the LIE.

Comment: HIGHLY RECOMMEND - Finally a sushi spot that is authentic and traditional Japanese, with a top notch sushi chef from Japan. I am constantly disappointed by sushi restaurants on Long Island, and I feel like I’ve found a hidden gem. Support this business, especially if you are looking for more authentic nigiri / omakase.FOOD: Delicious, high-quality sushi that is both traditional and creative (if you opt for omakase, usually in the evening I believe). All of the finer details are there, from higher quality wasabi, ginger, and rice, to the use of shiso, to house made ikura. The fish is of course all very fresh and mostly imported from Japan. It’s what I would except from a better sushi restaurant in the city, not in Long Island.AMBIANCE/SPACE: There’s zero ambiance as they are literally a sushi bar that shares a space with a seafood market (an open ended shared wall, so it feels separate yet connected). Not a particularly romantic place and probably not good for large groups. However, I’d still keep going back regularly for the amazing food and authenticity. 🍱The sushi chef, Kurya, is also super friendly. He used to have a spot in Brooklyn, but opened this up last year, as a one-man shop. If you are someone who appreciates the details and deliciousness of authentic sushi, go here and order the onakase right now!

Comment: Shared space with a fish market that also sells prepared foods. The sushi was good and prepared well but the portions are small for the price.

Comment: Sushi by Kuryu, tucked away in Roslyn Heights, is a true hidden gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. As someone familiar with the renowned former Nobu Downtown chef, Teruo Yoshioka, I was filled with anticipation when I heard about his new venture. The sushi at Sushi by Kuryu is undoubtedly top-notch, reflecting a commitment to sourcing the freshest ingredients. Each piece showcases the expertise and dedication poured into its creation. From the first bite, it becomes evident that the flavors are nothing short of extraordinary. The sushi combo I tried left a lasting impression, as it exceeded my expectations in every way. Without hesitation, I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to Sushi by Kuryu!

Comment: Make the time to visit this hidden gem in Roslyn LI. We made reservations for omakase at the counter and what a delight. The chef prepared a wonderful and filling set of courses and the servers were also very attentive and professional. Each course was beautifully presented and perfectly seasoned.

Comment: My husband and I eat a lot of sushi and were always looking for places that serve high quality sushi. Dont sleep on this place if you like sushi. Got the omakase special, sushi set, and spicy tuna roll for takeout and every bite was scrumptious. The rice was perfectly cooked - firm but chewy, and the fish was fresh and flavorful. Even though we got takeout, the presentation was beautiful and presented in high quality boxes. I also appreciated the soy sauce droppers which allow you to put as little or as much soy sauce as you want on each piece with precision. Will definitely be back for sure!

Comment: Let me start by saying that I stopped eating sushi in the neighborhood due to the quality of fish. I was made aware of Kuryu and figured it was worth a try but really did not expect much. Two months later, I eat here 2-3 times per week. This is the best quality and most authentic sushi we have ever had in the neighborhood! The fish is really fresh and the chef is extremely friendly! I suggest giving it a try, you will be pleasantly surprised!

Comment: A small charming place with outsized deliciousness. This is not your three color frozen sushi place. Carefully made and full of flavor, top notch sushi. Simple menu but high quality. You can go expensive ( fresh imported best fish) or normal price so a mix for all. First time in a while where a shrimp tempura roll was fresh fried and wrapped into the roll. Finally found a place outside of Manhattan for really good sushi!

Comment: Youll miss this place - you need to walk in through the seafood market. Located in the back, make sure to check their operating hours. I got the sashimi combo ($35) for 9 fresh pieces. Slices arent thin nor overwhelming. Love it! The chef was very nice and friendly.

Comment: This bento and sushi stand it part of the Japanese grocery/boutique that is at this address. It wildly exceeds expectations of a typical lunch bento! These are made fresh to order, and they cooked the meat on the spot. Can’t wait to go back.

Comment: This. Place. Is. Phenomenal. Kuryu was started by the former souschef at Nobu and the quality goes above and beyond. I cannot emphasize enough the incredible deal you get here. Hands down the best katsu (pork cutlet) I’ve had in NYC, if not ever?! The dorayaki are to die for. The chirashi bento is phenomenal- great fish, beautiful taste, and only $24?! Run, don’t walk here. I’m sure it’s going to blow up so get there now!

Comment: Seriously a hidden gem in the neighborhood (if not all of New York City) as these are by far the best bentos Ive had outside of Japan. Theres real attention and care going into every single one of them. You may wait 5-10 minutes while they prepare it for you (they make them on the spot in my experience) but its definitely worth it. Besides, you have the rest of J+B to browse while you wait.I especially recommend the Gindara, Pork Katsu, and Yakiniku bentos, and I love the Napolitan Spaghetti that comes on the side.Dont sleep on this place!

Comment: Got my haircut at Hazuki next door and figured I’d pick up something for dinner quickly - boy what a nice surprise when I got it home. Was such delicious and authentic Japanese food. Got the yakiniku and fish rice burgers, hamachi and salmon sushi rolls and the black sesame and hojicha dorayaki dessert - everything was SOOO good! I would come back for the food for sure. Hidden gem! Great place to browse gifts and Japanese groceries too.

Comment: We got sushi bento, rice burger, and matcha Dorayaki to share with friends. Overall very tasty, seafood are fresh, and we all agree that we’ll come back for more dessert. Every thing was made fresh by the chief and watching him preparing is an interesting experience. The only advice is the texture of rice. For both sushi and burger rice it’s a bit harder and chewier than expected, which can easily take away the spotlight of other ingredients, such as seafood and meat.We definitely recommend this place, and plus it shares the same space with other interesting shops that allows you to walk around while waiting for the food.
