Comment: A fusion-style sushi restaurant on the roof top. Guests take elevator up, and climb stairs for two floors to get to the restaurant. In the evening, it was full with reservation only. Friendly staffs busily walking back and forth to serve guests. Very tasting dishes, one will not be disappointed. Bon appetite!!!!!! 😋

Comment: I loved it. The service and ambiance was what pushed me from a 4 to a 5 as I have had better fish but it was definitely a contender for top spot. Random drop in and was able to sit at chefs counter and enjoy the omakase. I feel sad for the people who did not have a great experience. Maybe it was an off day but I am pleased. I would come again.

Comment: For a tourist, being from FL, this was a very cool experience. I sat at the bar and had the 15 piece meal, chefs specials. Was able to see the food being prepared and the chef explained the dish before serving it. I dont usually eat sushi Im unfamiliar with but I enjoyed it overall and it helped me to know what I like and dont like. The uni and scallop didnt sit well with me but everything else was very very good and ingredients were all very fresh. Ill definitely be returning

Comment: Originally we were told we weren’t able to eat (anything) here. The few door men (want to say Jose) said no even after being told no a door promoter told us we could get in. Which Jose shut down again. He was pretty rude. Then we asked if we could eat ANYTHING and then they pointed us to the bar. Again not friendly so then I went to the hostess Kayla SUPER NICE AND FRIENDLY and made reservations for the following evening but also asked if there were any cancellations to please let us know. Within about one hour. Kayla came back to us and said there had been a last-minute cancellation. The men from before didn’t even take the time to walk us up as they had done in nice suits with other guests however, Kayla walked us up to our table on the rooftop even though you could tell it wasn’t part of her job And she was so kind while doing it and it meant so much to us and I just wanted to say that it made the experience and maybe the other two men need to take notes from her and how to handle guests that are coming in as walk-ins versus reservations. Thank you Kayla! It really made our night extra special!

Comment: Go into the Sanctuary Hotel and check in at the front desk. You will be shown to the elevator to the 6th floor, then walk up 2 floors. We came for the Omakase. Some of us got the Chef Selection and one got the Lab Experiment. The A5 steak on toasted rice cake piece had a hard crunch that overpowered the soft/creamy texture. Toro with uni and caviar piece had too much going on that ended up with confusing flavors. The sweet shrimp with salmon roe piece was amazing. Overall, a great experience, except the Lab Experiment had only 14 pieces total, (including the handroll at the end), rather than the 15, as advertised. Its very possible that the chef got mixed up with the Selection (10 pieces) and Experiment (15 pieces), and to add to the confusion, we also ordered one tuna tartar to share. A photo for each course/piece was taken; we made sure of that. We did wonder how the chef was able to keep track of the differences in courses. While we felt the 15-pieces Lab Experiment ended rather quickly, we didnt take out the phone to count the photos to double-check check all 15 pieces were served. Oh, well, one star off there. Note to self for next time.Besides that issue, it was a very good overall experience.

Comment: For Sushi Lab Omakase Experience 15 pieces for 100 dollars. For 100 dollars, you really cant go wrong. I personally thought it was money well spent! Every single piece was delightful and didnt disappoint!I would highly recommend going with a smaller group of friends you can have fun with anytime, anywhere, regardless of the atmosphere. The real question is, would I go back soon? Oh, hell yea. I wonder how the roof top view is during the summer.

Comment: Amazing sushi spot in NYC!A friend recommended this place for dinner. It didn’t disappoint. It is located close to Times Square at the top of a building. The place looks small but it is beautiful, well decorated. Definitely a place for instagrammable pictures. The service is really good. Very welcoming and attentive. You need a reservation and they ask for a credit card.We ordered the Lab Experiment along with other dishes. You can tell they use high quality ingredients. Everything was delicious. The portions look small, but at the end you feel satisfied. Finally we ordered the cheesecake to top it off.We spent $260 including tip per 2 people. Agree, not to hace lunch here everyday, but worth it once in a while. And, by looking at the pictures, you will notice that we had a fair amount of food.

Comment: Sushi Lab Rooftop is located on the top floor of Sanctuary Hotel on 47th St between 6th and 7th Ave. When entering the hotel, you go to the reception desk to check in for your restaurant reservation, and get escorted through the lobby to an elevator that is hard to find if you visit for the first time. The restaurant has great views of the nearby buildings - in summer, it is an open rooftop terrace, in winter it gets converted into a covered restaurant. The style is modern and stylish, most guests were in their 20s or 30s.You order a variety of sushi creations - certainly not your traditional Japanese sushi, but a modern interpretation with different flavors and textures. We found all dishes excellent, and loved the fact that we could simply order more if necessary as there is no specific sequence. We enjoyed the house sake with our food, which was nice and fresh. We found the price level absolutely appropriate. The place gets really busy, so better have a reservation.

Comment: This was one of the best sushi experiences I have had. All the flavors of the sushi lab paired so well together and the fish was very high quality. We went late enough that the kitchen closed before I could order one last roll, but the 15 course sushi lab did pretty decent to leave me comfortable at the end. I would certainly hit this again when I can.

Comment: Very good fish, delicious, Excellent deal for the price,That said, despite having ancinteresting variety of tane/topping mixes, it takes very few risks--basically all the sushi are topping on fish on rice and whole there is some creativity with the pairings, its also a loud enohgh bar that you cant easily hear the chefs description of same,

Comment: Cute little sushi restaurant tucked away at the roof of the Sanctuary Hotel. Brought my friend here for a birthday brunch and she loved it. The restaurant is not that big, I would recommend making a reservation in advance just in case.We both got the Lab Experiment and the quality of ingredient, flavor and presentation were all great. I usually prefer certain fish over the others, but the way these came out, with unique flavors for each piece, really made me appreciate all the different varieties they offered. My friend loved every bite and said it’s the nicest place anyone has taken her to. I think she’s exaggerating, it’s a neat little spot in midtown for sushi, but far from the nicest.Price was very reasonable for the quality of the omakase, I actually think it’s a pretty good deal for the area, maybe I’m just used to midtown pricing. My friend and I each had 3 drinks, that’s what pushed up the bill total. I liked the Lychee Martini, it wasn’t overtly sweet and didn’t taste very artificial like the way some places make these. Overall, not too bad, I’ve paid more for restaurants per person than what I paid here for the brunch for two, and I honestly like the food here better. The overall decor and ambience is very bright, airy and relaxing. The windows are open and there’s good airflow. It’s a cute little date / brunch spot with the greenery and flower decor throughout. Not sure how hot it would get in the restaurant during the summer. On the day we went when the high temperature was in the mid 80s, it was very comfortable. I saw one of the reviews mention loud music, not sure if that’s played around dinner time because I didn’t notice any obnoxious music during my brunch. There was a mention of a 90 minute time limit in the reservation confirmation I received, but the restaurant wasn’t that full on the day we went, and no one kicked us out after 2 hours until we asked for our check. We also booked a time slot when they first opened on a weekend, that might be why it wasn’t crowded during the time we were there.I’m happy with the food, drink and service overall. This place is close enough to work that I might be able to pop by after work for dinner in the future. One thing to note: there are two flights of stairs after you get off the elevator on the 6th floor. In case anyone in your party has mobility issues, this spot might not be a good choice.

Comment: Came here for a friends birthday, and honestly, it was one of the best dining experiences Ive had in a while. From the food to the ambiance to the service down to the ingredients they used, everything was amazing. We decided to splurge and get the hundred-dollar Omakase, and it was worth every penny. Personally, the meal was very filling. Every time, the chef brought out a new selection for us to try. I kept saying OK. This is my favorite. OK, never mind this is my favorite. The combinations of flavors were so good even though we were a little skeptical about some of them at first. None of us drank alcohol so the waiter brought us some mocktails instead, which were absolutely delicious. Would definitely recommend and plan to come back.

Comment: First time trying omakase and had a wonderful experience here at sushilab from setting, to food, to service everything was great! We sat at the chef’s table so we can observe how the sushi is done and we’d know what we were given. We tried their 15 course omakase and had the pleasure of being served by Chef Luke who prepared all these fresh, beautiful and delicious sushi for us. Every piece was tasty and we enjoyed every single one even though we cant remember the names anymore lol it was hard to pick a favorite! We were also served by Inka (i hope i got her name right) who was such a sweetheart! From taking a video for us, giving us tips on how best to enjoy the sushi and even giving us complimentary champagne to celebrate our anniversary! we had such a memorable time and enjoyed every minute we were there. All the staff we encountered that day were pleasant which really gave a good impression and plus the setting is just beautiful as you can see from the photos! Comment: Love this place for a weekday lunch. I was 15 mins late during lunch rush and they were able to hold my table for me. The service can be a little slow but it’s a small space and the one waiter has to go downstairs to retrieve hot dishes. So not his fault (they should hire a runner) however they are good about letting you know which dishes take longer. They accommodated me and my small service animal which I appreciated. And the sushi of course is consistently good. Now I have had better but for an outdoor/rooftop sushi place I can’t complain. I haven’t tried the entree dishes like the pasta but the apps and sushi are pretty good. Will continue to return. I think the bad reviews are more from dinner service and I haven’t been so I can’t comment. But I can recommend for a nice yet casual lunch.

Comment: Overall, had a pretty good experience. The location of this restaurant is somewhat “hidden” within a hotel. Upon entering the hotel, the staff greets you and gives you instructions to take an elevator, then go up a set of stairs in the fire escape until you reach the entrance.Food was pretty good, the bluefin toro tartare was the most memorable item for me. The chefs selection Omakase was decent, but wasn’t super filling unfortunately. Our waiter seemed pretty pushy and impatient when it came to us ordering our food. But overall, would still come back for the rooftop vibes and tartare.

The chef was amazing, he was friendly, funny, took the time to explain the pieces we were getting. the whole experience was such a nice treat. 15 out of 15 pieces were all 10/10 in taste, quality and visual art! Comment: I have to say I got to experience a great Omakese selection at Sushi Lab. The restaurant is located on a rooftop of the Haven Hotel. You check in once you walk into and get shuffled into a separate elevator to the 6th floor, walk up two floor and you’re at the restaurant entrance. The service was really friendly and fast. Note they keep to a 90 minute dining limit for the sushi counter. Pictured are the great sushi chefs making multiple Lab Experiment Omakese dishes, an order of the Salmon Belly appetizer along with the Tuna flight which was great. You’ll get to have multiple types of fish and the chef announced each one. Some features are shima aji, golden eye red snapper, lean tuna, fried oyster and many many more. 15 pieces come with the lab experiment and I highly recommend it. Their drinks menu is also very good if you’re looking for a sweet or savory cocktail. Reservations are a must. Can’t wait to stop back in when the weather is warmer.

Comment: If you love sushi this is where you need to be. I highly recommend making reservations as space is limited. Good food and service with a view. It took hardly anytime for us to be seated and served. The food was brought out as soon as it was ready without any wait for the remaining table orders to be ready.

Comment: 15 course omakase for $100 that includes multiple pieces with uni, truffle, and wagyu is truly a bang for your buck! Not the freshest of omakases that I’ve had, but still definitely worth the money. Random: Playlist was on point and created such a vibe!

Comment: Sushi lab was such a great time. We went for dinner on a Friday night to celebrate a birthday. We got seated before our reservation time even with the restaurant pretty packed. The food was great! Our server Max was so friendly and his service was perfect. He went above and beyond to make our birthday celebration special. We left stuffed and happy. I highly recommend anyone to celebrate any occasions here. Thank you max and sushi lab!!

Comment: Awesome place to check out! Kinda pricey but u do get the aesthetic and a decent amount of food. Expect to spend closer to $100 or more. Especially if u do the chefs choice and order a roll. Its secluded and quiet up there with lots of natural light. A good way to escape the rush of the city and its quiet too. Allowing u to enjoy conversation. I did feel like they put people in a row when I was there instead of spacing us out more but it was still fine since theres decent amount of space between tables.

The flavor, presentation, and customer service are top tier. Although a bit pricey, definitely worth it for what you get. Perfect place for a special occasion.

Comment: My husband and I stopped in and tried 3 rolls, 4 types of nigiri and LOVED it. The spicy yellow snapper roll, toro and waygu nigiri was my favorite. It is located inside a hotel, on top of a covered rooftop. The place is decorated with tons of fake greenery which gives it a very garden feel.

Comment: The vibe of this restaurant is spectacular. It’s not too loud and there is lots of greenery around. The food was good as was the service. The only down side, BIG down side, is that it closes VERY early, at 10pm. We were surprised by this after getting a reservation at 8pm but then they told us that the kitchen was closing soon after we got there.

Comment: I took my husband here for his birthday this year, before a broadway show. It is conveniently located in the theatre district, so perfect spot for dining before or after a show. Only reason we didn’t give full 5 stars is because you can find better omakase experiences in other sushi places, for similar pricing. The bright rooftop aesthetic, with the beautiful floral canopy definitely elevated the experience, so great for date night or girls night out, just don’t expect anything amazing regarding the omakase. The rest of the food experience was decent, however slightly overpriced. We got the wings and taro chips for appetizers, the chips were my favorite thing we ordered to be honest.

Comment: Beautiful ambiance, very friendly staff, super pricey but the taste and plating reflect that. This time, we got a garden table to enjoy the view a bit more (despite being “rooftop” it actually more like a terrace or balcony so dont expect a city view, but it is beautifully decorated and the greenery with the wood tones of the tables gives a very nice welcoming feel), but maybe next time I’ll do chef’s counter. Be prepared to spend a lot of money as the portions are small (expected) but very fresh and well put together. The flavors are both familiar but with unique twists, I especially enjoyed the charred flavor of some of the pieces that were probably cooked partially by searing with a torch. I was also recommended the strawberry geisha cocktail by our server and it was beautiful to look at and tasted just as lovely, nice and fruity, not too strong but you can still taste the sake that makes the base of the cocktail.Would come again when my wallet recovers, or when someone decides to pay me more LOL

Comment: I had a great experience here. It feels very exclusive with only a few tables, and the decor is nice. I sat at the bar and was able to watch the chefs create my meal. The fish was very fresh and the menu selections are much more of a culinary experience than typical sushi restaurants upstate. Every flavor combination is well thought out and intentional. The manager and wait staff were all very attentive and friendly. They even provided recommendations for other places to try. I will definitely be back.

Comment: Interesting and unique spot in Times Square. Sushi was pretty good and vibe was solid. Getting to the restaurant is pretty interesting. You checkin downstairs, then when called take a random elevator to the 6th floor which looks like an older hotel. You walk a bit and enter a 1970s looking stairwell and walk up two flights. (Not wheelchair accessible it seems). The staff was friendly but pretty sparse (I think there was one waitress working). Food and drinks come from downstairs do it takes a bit to get drinks and hit food. Sushi was good and is made on the same floor. Overall I’d recommend the experience but can’t say I’ll go back regularly. Closed at 10 sharp.

Comment: Outstanding service. Kirsten went above and beyond to make our experience special. She noticed that our first course was taking a bit long to come out, swooped in, acknowledged what was up, and comped our desserts. Class. The food was good — heavy on the uni for the omakase, if that’s your thing. Was it the BEST sushi I’ve ever had? We really liked it! Is the view incredible? Didn’t seem that way, but the decor is really nice and the clientele ranges from trendy couples to first dates to friends just getting dinner. Overall it’s a nice setting with fresh air, good sushi, and an excellent staff.

Comment: Sushi lab has been on my list of rooftop places to visit for a while. The views werent what I was expecting. You do get a nice view of the office building across the street, but dont expect sweeping views of NYCs skyline. Nevertheless, the ambiance was super cute and I loved the fact that I went before sunset, so the natural lighting was perfect.I got the tuna flight, the avocado fries, washugyu beef specialty roll, and the strawberry geisha cocktail. Tuna was extremely decadent, the server walked us through the different types of tuna that was being served, from lean to most fatty. The avocado fries were interesting, instead of using regular breaded batter these were fried using tempura batter which gives it a more smooth crunchy finish. The washugyu beef specialty roll was filling. Id have to say that the yakiniko miso glaze that was used was sweeter and dominated the dish than what I had expected. Definitely not the typical specialty roll so it could be a hit or miss depending on what youre expecting.Overall, I had a pleasant experience. Staff was super friendly and the whole rooftop was just great for taking the cutest photos. It wasnt too noisy so it was great to catch up with your party. From an accessibility perspective, while you take the elevator up, you still need to be able to take a flight of stairs up to the rooftop. Something to keep in mind.

Comment: The rooftop is beautiful, the food is great and service was very good. They do have timed seating, which is fine but when you arrive on time and it takes them about 15-20 minutes to start service (we were the first seating at 4:30pm) that should have been taken in consideration. In the end the manager was very nice and allowed us to order an additional item that we took to go. Would I go back, probably not, while the food was great, the selection and quality was a lot better in the Chemistry Room.

Comment: We came here for my husband bday and had some of the best sushi we’ve ever had! We first ordered the $120 Lab Experience and shared it and then decided to try the $60 Chef Selection. As an omakase these were the best options to have and we are glad we got to try them both! Might be a bit pricy but soooo worth it! It’s all about the senses and incredibly tasty food! It’s definitely another level of experience! Can’t recommend highly enough! The place is also beautifully decorated and the service was excellent! I loved my Gold Digger dish which a kind of combines rice, fish, uni, caviar on a sheet of nori, so you can make a kind of burrito wrap and eat it up. Quite interesting + gold flakes. The service was fast and nice. But no desserts even if they are on the menu. The design is a bit underwhelming for a rooftop. Comment: Delicious sushi 🍣 😋 in a delightful setting. Friendly service and excellent prices. This place reminds you how great sushi can be and why it shouldnt be sold prepackaged in grocery stores. $320 for 4 after tip, including 1 $60 omakase, 2 cocktails, 3 house sake carafes, 4 appetizers, 3 rolls, 2-3 nigiri/sashimi, and $41 tip. They will keep you to 90 minutes to keep tables turning, but welcome to NYC at Covid Christmas 2021. Our appetizers were delicious: toro tartare (where do they get those nori crackers? This is mostly avocado, but good avocado), salmon belly & poached Asian pear (great and unexpected flavor combinations), hamachi jalepeno, charred edaname (the truffle oil flavor was soft and not unctuous). The sushi was fresh and several nigiri felt melt in my mouth. No maguro was available on our visit, but the toro was a revelation (I think it was the favorite thing I ate) and hamachi oh so fresh. The yellowtail jalepeno roll, sansho eel roll, and matcha crunch roll were all good size and good tasting and a great value. The matcha is distinctive but not overly so - the tempura in a sushi roll is done well, but for my taste, Id get another order of nigiri instead. My husband ate most of the omakase and he enjoyed himself. We enjoyed the charred edaname so much that they brought us an extra order on the house. You have to take the elevator and then walk two flights of stairs. Tables are spaced apart. All in all, an excellent evening and we will add it to a list of favorite. Do make reservations in well in advance.

Comment: Sushi lab have been at the forefront of my brain for the past year ever since my girlfriend mentioned it to me. She had actually tried it before me and said it was underwhelming— but I wanted to see so for myself. To my dismay, she was right.First let me address the atmosphere. The sushi lab is on the “rooftop” of sanctuary hotel. It was not the easiest to navigate the dark, red halls to reach this place. But once we did get out there, the area was beautiful. I love the floral aesthetics. Very bright and cute.I guess I was expecting to have my tastebuds blown out the water but everything was pretty meh. I had such high expectations because the presentation is crazy!!! The flavors just wasn’t there for me unfortunately. However, I would like to add these stunning pieces were crafted by the most fluid team of sushi chefs 👏🏼

Comment: Tried the Chemistry Room omakase and it didn’t disappoint! Dishes were all really good, and the experience takes ~2hs and they do the omakase in batches (everyone is eating the same dish at the same time). It did get a bit smokey when they did the wagyu, but other than that the ambiance is really nice. It is located on the ground level (vs sushi lab that is on the rooftop). It was a solid $100 omakase, so if you’re looking for an experience that is around this price range then i recommend it.

Comment: We had the omakase menu at the bar for lunch and it was the most incredible 10 pieces so much so we added 6 more pieces that the chef created special for us using different fish/seafood!! It really was all so good, one wouldn’t think that sushi could melt in you mouth but here several pieces had that sensation!! We also had 3 different kinds of uni which was so incredibly good and each one so different! The fish is the highest quality I have ever had from all over the world!! I HIGHLY recommend the omakase menu! We also tried the house saki which was great and the wagyu-scallop,the gold digger (AMAZING) and the yellowtail jalapeño roll (AMAZING TOO)!! One of the most incredible and unforgettable dining experiences of my life!!! Yes, it is a bit hard to get up to since its in a hotel that does not go directly up to the rooftop, but there are signs literally every 10ft guiding you where to walk.Once seated the service was quick and great. Any questions, just ask! The staff were super friendly. We sat at the chef counter (highly recommend) which was fun to watch and chat with the chefs that make your experience fun. Comment: Love everything about this place. Fab sushi on a rooftop? C’mon, it doesn’t get much better than that. You can do full omakasa (make sure to tell them upon seating as it’s a 1.5 hr rez. We didn’t so went for the 1/2 version and it was outstanding. Great service too. Just wish we had more time but in these Covid times, restaurants have to make $ how they can.

Comment: I think we came here on one of the warmest days. It was a hassle to get into the place as there was a long line up for the elevator it was unorganized. Once we were in it’s a very nice space. The staff were friendly considering how hot it was outside. Overall good quality was okay, the rice was a bit to warm and seasoning needed more vinegar. The sushi combinations were creative, some were better than others. The blue fin tuna tartare was the best thing we had but the skimped on the fish and it was mainly avocado. The yellowfin was also good but lacked citrus. The other items were good but not great. The space was very enjoyable, if your not to discerning then you will have a good time.

Comment: Excellent! They have awesome, experimental sushi rolls here. Lives up the “lab” name. It’s in a weird location on top of a hotel and you have to through winding hallways, up and elevator, and then up two sets of stairs to get there. But then you get to this beautiful garden on the roof which has an amazing look to it. The servers are very attentive and the food comes out fast. The seafood is super fresh and very flavorful. We really enjoyed the rolls we tried, our favorite was the yellowtail jalapeño. Definitely a great place to try!

Comment: A solid dining experience with wide selection of menus that will give you satisfaction whether you do omakase or not.Ive hd omakase before and came back today with some friends. The bluefine toro tartare and seared salmon roll was excellent. (with the seared salmon roll being a little heavy for my liking.)recommend this place for anyone looking for a good entry level sushi experience!

Comment: I love the ambiance of this restaurant and the sushi is absolutely amazing! I definitely recommend sitting at the chefs table, it’s awesome watching their technique especially when making the omakase. I’ve been here a few times before but last night we decided to get the chefs selection omakase - it was amazing!! The cuts of fish were so thick and the flavors were wonderful. To start we had the salmon belly with poached pear: definitely recommend! After our omakase we also ordered a seared salmon roll - delicious. And for dessert we got the chocolate brownie - it was shaped in a cute heart, flavor wise it was good and not too sweet. To drink we shared a bottle of the green ridge sake and they also gave us 2 glasses of champagne which was such a sweet touch. We’re definitely coming back to try the lab experiment!!Previous times I’ve been here I’ve tried the taro chips - standard guac and chips with a Japanese twist. The spicy tuna tartare roll which is good. The matcha tiramisu - good and not too sweet, but it was definitely more of a matcha cream than a tiramisu. I’ve also tried a few of their cocktails and you can’t go wrong with any they’re all amazing!

Comment: Omakase is back at Sushi Lab! The restaurant is located on the 6th floor rooftop. Very easy to navigate to. I recommend going to the bathroom in the lobby vs upstairs as the rooftop one is really cramped. I made reservations way in advance and sat at the chef counter. I ordered the lab experiment for $120 and it gives you 15 signature courses and my 2 friends had the chefs selection of $60 for 10 pieces. I personally loved the hamachi with cured kombu, otoro with caviar, blini with crab on sweet bread, blue tuna with tempura oyster, monk fish liver, and the chutoro. Flavors here are on another level. The pics look great, but the textures, umami and freshness of the fish here are amazing. Looking at what my friends were served yes it looked delicious, but they regretted not going with the lab experiment. Definitely order the chutoro, otoro and anything on the menu that has uni on it you wont be disappointed. Uni has to be my favorite and I swear they served me uni from 3 different regions. The aesthetics here are amazing with the rooftop lighting and faux grass plants along the walls and roof. We also ordered the sake flights and my omakase came with matcha tea which were delicious. With current Covid measures they take it really serious here. Your temperature is checked at the bottom floor and the entire staff is wearing gloves and masks. Seats are 6 feet apart and they have sanitizer every where. They have partitions around the restaurant as well. Food service and timing were perfect. We had a limit of 90 minutes and with all of the food we ate we ran a little over.Highly recommend Sushi lab if you love raw sushi. Looking at other diners I didnt see a single roll. Book in advance and go for the omakase at the chefs counter. Ill definitely be back to try their other menu items including their hand rolls

Comment: An awesome find in midtown close to time square. We ordered the The Lab Experience omakase which was definitely worth the price. The food was amazing, every bite was very interesting tasting all of the flavors and textures created by the talented chefs. All of the ingredients were fresh and prepared perfectly. There was a bite of A5 Wagyu that makes my mouth water everytime I think about it. I will definitely be back for that.Theres so many things to try and I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a memorable experience. The staff was really helpful with explaining what each dish was. They were extremely nice and accommodating. The tables are spaced out and they do have dividers. The environment was well ventilated and clean. This is definitely worth checking out.P.s I didnt take pictures of all 15 courses of the omakase experience we were lost in the deliciousness.

Comment: Good omakase, the staff are extremely accomodating for preferences/allergies (I don’t eat uni). Value for money is not as great as other places but the great service made up for it. Pretty rooftop dining space. You reach the rooftop through a hotel lobby, riding an elevator, and then walking up two sets of stairs.

Comment: UPDATE Nov 2020: second visit here, omakase was now priced at $120. The ambience and decor was better; as now they have a beautiful rooftop space. The omakase quality though.. was not worth the price, some of the sashimi were not at the right temperature, the truffle didnt taste like truffle, and some dishes were just too much of a mix-mash of everything. Service was great. Have reduced this to a 4-star as a result of food experience.Feb 2019: Good price for good sushi. At first was a little hesitant as it was located at the lobby of Sanctuary hotel, but the Omakase was a delightful surprise. For $50 it was a good deal. Fish was fresh and there was good variety, and exceptional service

Comment: Came here to celebrate my husbands birthday! Saw this place on instagram and thought the ambiance was really pretty 😬Its on a covered rooftop terrace in the sanctuary hotel and we made reservations. Once you walk in youre greeted by the front desk (actually on the left lol) they take your temp and they take you to a back elevator to the 6th floor. You walk to a staircase and go up about 2 flights to the restaurant.. this place was so pretty..they have ivy along the walls and like clear dividers between the tables.. definitely come here for the gram lolService was great everyone was attentive and described each piece but i zoned out cause I couldnt wait to eat loool.. anyway we got 2 of the $60 omakase, 2 of the scallop wagyu, 2 of the wagyu uni and the tuna flight (forgot to take a photo cause I was so hungry and excited lol). Everything was so delicious! Especially that last piece of uni with the fried perilla leaf!! Love!! Wish we couldve ordered 30 of those haha

Comment: Tl;dr fancy omakase experience that wont break the bank.I have been wanting to try Sushi Lab since pre-Covid. I am still not comfortable doing indoor dining so when I found out they had a rooftop, I was looking for the perfect time to try it. And what better time to try it than my wedding day! We had a mini ceremony in the morning, a photo shoot at the Empire State Building in the afternoon, and Sushi Lab was the perfect way to end the day (especially since it was within walking distance). I remembered randomly looking at Resy a few times before for reservations for two people but could never find anything. So I figured I would try my luck by calling, and they had open reservations (so always call)! We chose the 5 pm seating for a Saturday and we got to sit by the sushi bar.First, you get your temperature taken and then you wait for an elevator (with your party only) and go up a set of stairs to the rooftop. The space is beautiful. It looks very modern yet minimalistic. Its a tented rooftop but its open on the sides. We were one of the first groups to arrive, so we were sat in a cozy corner by the window, away from everyone else. The tables and seats by the bar are socially distanced and they also have a plexiglass between each party. They also give out one-time use paper menus. We felt really safe dining here. For drinks, we did a whiskey flight and a sake mojito. The whiskey was Toki, Hibiki Harmony, and Yamakazi. You definitely want to start from left to right because it gets smokier and more intense by the time you get to the Yamakazi. The mojito was nice and refreshing. I normally dont love cocktails because theyre too sweet, but this one was perfect. For food, we decided to splurge and go with the Lab Experiment. It has 15 courses (as opposed to the Chefs selection of 10) and this is what we were served: amberjack, Kumamoto oysters, toro tartare toast, squid and uni with finger lime, arctic char, striped jack, seared toro with beluga caviar, golden eye snapper, fried oyster with tuna/dried roe, uni-corn (crab/uni with popcorn dust), scallop/uni/truffle, wagyu/uni/foie gras, anagori with real nori, tamago, miso soup, and cherry blossom jelly. The highlights were the toro toast, seared toro with beluga caviar, fried oyster, the wagyu/uni/foie gras, scallop/uni/truffle, and anagori (but more because Ive never had real nori before, so it was interesting). I had high expectations for the uni-corn but it was just okay. Also, I know youd normally start the meal with soup, but the miso at the end was just *chefs kiss*, the perfect way to end it and trick your body into thinking it has been cleansed. The duds were probably the golden eye snapper (mine was veiny), the tamago (not a fan in general), and the cherry blossom jelly (reminiscent of a water drop cake). I must warn you that they do love using shiso leaves here, so if youre like me and its not your thing, make sure you tell them ahead of time (theyll ask you if youre allergic or dont like anything and it was my fault that I forgot to tell them about the shiso). For dessert, we went with the brown sugar boba flan. The boba was a bit hard, and its not really a flan, but more of soy bean pudding, texture-wise. The flavor was good though - not too sweet.Ill admit that its not the best sushi Ive had (still amazing) but the reason for the 5 stars was the overall experience. I must give a shoutout to the host, Julio and our server, Nicki. Julio had asked if we were celebrating a special occasion (since we were dressed up, and I was wearing white) and we told him that we had just gotten married that day. They both made our experience very special and memorable from beginning to end, and even gave us complimentary champagne/dessert to celebrate. So if youre looking for a place to celebrate anything, or if you want to have a fancy sushi experience at a very reasonable price, Sushi Lab is it. Even if omakase isnt your vibe, theyve got a la carte items too. I cant wait to come back and try the specialty rolls.

Comment: Been to the Sushi Lab Rooftop two times now and my both my experiences were amazing! First time was at the chefs bar and second time was at the garden table. No matter where youre sitting, the customer service and food is phenomenal! The sushi pieces are each individually SO amazing and fresh. Julio was my server and he went above and beyond serving my friend and I. He always came by to check up on us and make sure we were doing okay. When it came around to dessert, Julio told us they were unfortunately they were out of the pancake and the tiramisu would be on the house. Definitely something he did not have to do at all but this just comes to show he goes above and beyond to keep customers satisfied!!If you want to dine at a place with beautiful ambiance, amazing customer service and delicious food, you HAVE to come to Sushi Lab!!

Comment: One of my closest friends made a reservation here for me to celebrate my birthday during the week. Located inside the Sanctuary Hotel in Midtown, upon entering the dim lobby, you check in at the reception area, where they check your temperature (love the covid safety measures). We came about 15 minutes early and waited about 5-10 minutes in the empty lobby, as they prepared our table (chefs counter). We were then directed to take the elevator to the 6th floor and take the stairs til we reached the restaurant. Upon entering, it was beautiful as though we were taken to an enchanted forest.Initially, we both ordered the 10pc omakase for $60, along with drinks (I ordered the Blu- Shu Margarita, and she ordered the Strawberry Geisha) and an appetizer (Bluefin Toro Tartare). My margarita was delicious (def a little creeper as it tasted like juice), and my friend really enjoyed the strawberry geisha (highly recommend if you love sweet, fruity drinks). The appetizer was also delicious, I literally can snack on that all day. The tartare was set on a bed of guacamole (that wasnt overpowering in lime and salt) and you dip the nori cracker into the blue fin tartare, you can taste the freshness of the bluefin tuna, finished off with a creamy layer of guacamole. It was also surprisingly light. The 10 pc omakase was delicious. Each of the fish was fresh with a unique flavor combination that worked... a hint of umami in every bite. The only course I did have trouble eating was the raw shrimp, I personally found it a little too slimy and tough. When our omakase was done, I was still a little hungry so we opted for the 15 course omakase. That completely filled me up. Much of this course contained uni and caviar. If you are an uni fan, I definitely recommend this omakase. To me, I found it okay, but a little overwhelming as I normally am not an uni fan. The highlight of this course was definitely the tamago. It was white and light, with the perfect amount of sweetness. I can literally snack on that for days.Overall, we definitely had a great time. The waiter was attentive to us and even refilled our water. We also had a chance to speak with one of the workers, who was surprised that we were able to eat a total of 25 courses, his limit was around 15 lol! I left the restaurant feeling full, but not to the point where I was like ughh I cant move, but a level of I gotta walk this off for a few.Would definitely recommend this place, if you are a sushi fan and are intrigued at how the chefs prepare the food. The omakase prices are $60 for 10 signature sushi pieces, $120 signature courses (various sushi pieces, appetizers and dessert). The a la carte rolls range from $18-25, where as individual sushi pieces range from $8-$12.

Comment: Pretty decent omakase. We were at first leery about how the sushi counter would be for omakase. But they were very by the books in terms of covid prevention.... Initial walk in, spray your hands with alcohol... All employees were masked and gloved at all times.... Each section was divided with a clear divider... I recommend doing the $60 basic omakase and then adding on special pieces, ie Wagyu with uni and wagyu with scallop... Phenomenal

Comment: I wasnt expecting to be wowed at Sushi Lab but I was. We had the $80 omakase and it was filled with interesting flavors and garnishes that Ive never tried at other places such as rose petals, plum jelly, and onion sprouts. The sushi restaurant consists of a small counter with only a couple seats for omakase and a couple communal tables in the back located off the lobby of Sanctuary Hotel. It wasnt the comfiest, but the pieces were really good that I could overlook that bit. For the price and the amount of pieces you get (15 and a handroll) and the quality of the fish its kind of a steal considering the prices of other omakase places in Manhattan. I would definitely return here again!

Comment: Good value for money omakase. You can spend more and get better quality elsewhere, but the value-to-hit ratio here is good. Think it would benefit from keeping some things more simple and a couple of pieces seemed more for show than anything (no need for rose petals on a piece of sushi, for example), but again, its good quality for a great price. Service is very good and its a great location if you have theatre tickets.

Comment: I am truly speechless, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. arrived there a bit early . But had to wait for our time slot . It’s small spot in the Hotel lobby. We were seated by what looked like a bar . But it was a twist, we were in for a experience. Me and friend decided to do the Omakase(CHEFS SIGNATURE 10 PIECES) . It started off with Hot Misu Soup. It was really good. Also we did the cocktails and they came in a cool pouch. I guess everyone around the bar had done the Chefs Signature. They were serving it to us one at a time. It went from light to heavy . I was full at the end, and I was thinking it wouldn’t be enough.Service - 10/10Ambiance- 8/10WiFi - Not sureParking - Good LuckLarge Groups - Reservation might be neededITS DEFINITELY AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE

The 10 set was surprisingly filing but would probably go for the upgrade if i was really hungry. Each piece is well crafted and thought out, would recommend getting a reservation for the sushi bar!Hopefully you get the smoked miso, absolutely want to go back!

Comment: I was on my way to Sushi by Bou (which I will try another time) when I stumbled upon this little countertop sushi bar place with delicious, fresh fish at great prices. The chef is very creative. Its right in the lobby of the Sanctuary hotel. Great find. I had the blue fin ceviche and the uni in a roll. So good, both. Next time Ill do omakase

Comment: We got $50 omakase add Waygu uni and tuna flight. All the sushi was super fresh and the sushi already add the flavor so no soy sauce needed.I really like the tuna flight. It melt to your month!!The waygu beef uni. The waygu beef was a bit chewy, I was expected more soft tho.And 10pieces of omakase was wonderful.Actually 9 pieces plus a hand roll and miso soup!

Comment: Creative ingredients mixing the new elements into traditional sushi! Overall satisfied with the fishes that chef has chosen tonight. My favorite piece was the 8th (couldn’t catch the name) with rose shred. The fatty tuna was also good and it’s done in traditional way in contrast to the others. But the sushi rice was made with excessive vinegar apparently, even if I am kind of person prefer more vinegar taste in general, but the sour flavor was overwhelming on several pieces of nigiri. Or because the chef also knew that, some pieces were made strong flavor to compete with the sushi rice hence its difficult to feel the original fresh taste of the fish itself. Btw, I got diarrhea an hour later, not sure whether it’s related but I didn’t eat anything else before/after the sushi dinner, sigh

Comment: Amazing! The $50 omakase was absolutely delicious and worth the price. 10 pieces with the hand roll and miso will satisfy you and not leave you too full or too hungry. This is definitely a unique experience with sushi garnished with things like truffle mushroom and other twists. Definitely recommend.

Comment: This 8 seat sushi bar has absolutely amazing sushi and an great omakase offer that will leave you full and oh so happy. At only 50$ per person for 10 pieces of sushi plus a hand roll and a cup of smoked miso soup, or 80$ a person for 15 pieces, trust me you’ll get your money’s worth. Every piece is made in front of you and the chef (Fenki, ありがとうございました!) will gladly explain what each one is.If you’re really not into scallops or something specific they will definitely accomodate you (my friend doesn’t like wasabi so they made sure to remove it for her). From beginning to end, everything was divine. The smoky miso soup is made by smoking the cup and then pouring the soup - which makes it a visual experience first, and then olfactory. Your taste buds will be craving it right away.Every omakase is different as it varies on what they have available that day. The toro (fatty tuna) is always a guarantee tho, and so is the sweet shrimp. They also have a few appetizers to choose from and I definitely recommend their tuna tartare with rice and nori crackers - so addictive!I will definitely come back for more - it’s so delicious and so well made, and oh so worth it 👏🏼
