Comment: So on a whim I was feeling for sushi and decided to try this place. I ordered the 181 Special Roll, which was cooked yellowtail and a spicy chefs sauce, along with the shumai (shrimp dumplings x6). Both were very tasty. The shrimp dumplings by themselves were so good I wish I had ordered another set! The special roll was very good - hadnt had cooked yellowtail in a while and the spicy sauce was a good match for how I like it. The place itself - no frills (a clean bodega style setup). Worth the walk for me. Staff was pleasant. Recommended.

Comment: YAY it’s open i am soooo happy. I was in tears when i saw it was closed and praying for a comeback. This is the best sushi in the heights. their spicy tuna is so good and unique. they used to have the “empire roll” which is the best roll i’ve ever had in my life, hoping they’ll bring it back. my only wish is that they make the spicy mayo “traditional” with kewpie mayo and siracha but their sushi is so good that this is the only place i don’t mind skipping out on spicy mayo. STAY OPEN PLS!

Im not sure if they have multiple people making the rolls, but if so, you can tell the difference. Its good about 60% of the time, Id say, and it used to be my go-to spot. I think theres a few better options in the neighbor hood now.

I do, but my dinner companions are proud wine snobs, and they said it went bad.All the food we ordered was delicious, this was our 2nd or 3rd time here. Ordered a bunch of rolls and a bento box. We all loved the food, especially the shrimp dumplings. Service was quick. Ambience is nice, not too fancy, but nicer than a lot of Asian restaurants where the only decoration is the choking poster. We ate indoors, and the big windows at the front of the restaurant were open, a little noisy in the beginning, but not bad. They checked vaccine status on the way in.

Comment: My brother was really craving sushi and we found this place in the Heights. We sat outside and had fast service.We both ordered bento boxes (shrimp tempura and chicken). I also got a side of shrimp, avocado, and mango roll. The seafood tempura (appetizer) was mostly veggies, I was hoping for more seafood. But overall each bite was tasty, and we will be returning.

Its not dry thin strips of mostly breading like other places, instead you get thick juicy strips of your meat of choice, dipped and fried in egg over the Panko, sitting on a generous bed of caramelized onions in addition to the fried (not plain white) rice. The attention to detail makes all the difference .

Decent enough tempura, felt like some pieces had a bit too much batter at the ends, but still tasted good and fresh. The shumai were perfect little bite-sized pieces and the accompanying salad and miso soup were nice additions. Will have to try the actual sushi next time, the rice was on point.

This was our favorite restaurant in the heights to go with our kids because they were always so understanding, patient, and kind. If you’ve got young kids, you know how hard dining out can be. Sushi Yu 2 was always the easiest. They’d bring out food for the kiddos as soon as possible and interact with them too. It was always a judgment free atmosphere. Order the boat is you want an experience too :)

Comment: This is my favorite sushi spot in Washington Heights (with the exception of Mama Sushi but thats more boujee). The service here is fast and the sushi is delicious. Dont let the B rating concern you since Ive never heard any ill news about the place. They also have Japanese soda as well as Sapporo beer. Theres no ATM here but you get a 10% discount for paying cash! And when paying by card, the receipt auto-calculates the tip based on the three standard tipping brackets and all you have to do is check one off.

Comment: Girlfriend and I walked here from 104th St. It was quite a walk and we were hungry. We also had a dog with this. They were very friendly and accommodating to our dog and let him sit outside, next to us. The breeze was blowing and the atmosphere was pleasant. Good service. Nice napkins and spicy wasabi. The sushi also tasted very fresh and the price was reasonable. We each got 2 rolls and 1 large bottle of Saki. The total was $40 not including tip (the sake was $11). Would definitely come back here again. Thanks.

Comment: This is my favorite place to eat. I love the atmosphere not to mention the neighborhood has alot of other great restaurants too. But sushi yu....is excellent! The waiters are so kind. The food is two thumbs up!!! My favorite roll is The Dragon.....amongst many other rolls too. Lol! Its hard to choose so many choices. I always come back for more. Theyre starting to know my name by heart. Lol.

Comment: Best sushi in Washington/Hudson Heights. The specialty rolls are particularly creative, tasty, and worth the extra cost. The space is small, but doesnt feel crowded. It is clean and service is fast. The small touches...like warm towels and a tray of complimentary edamame to start the meal, and a fruit cup with cherries and pineapple to finish as a palate cleanser, really add to the charm and experience of the restaurant. The sushi meat is of high quality. There is nothing bad on the menu.

Comment: I enjoy this place! As soon as I arrived with two of my friends, we received a free serving of edamame and wet cloths to clean our hands. I ordered the New York Roll and really enjoyed it. I recommend the miso soup as well.

Comment: The bento boxes are more than you could ask for...which i guess is the definition of a bento box. miso soup,salad, pork katsu, cali rolls, and shumai with a side of hot green tea is my personal favorite. prices have definitely increased so i cant indulge as much as i would love to. the sushi is decent-priced.servers are always very kind. however, once i paid and left a good tip and on my way out i was followed by a female server saying my tip was not adequate. i found this very disrespectful because i even use a calculator to tip, my meal well around 30 dollars. i did not like how they handled it as well. i was brought back in and they opened the check holder so i could give the server more money when i had already calculated a generous tip. it was insulting and embarassing for me and i hope to never undergo that experience again. if it werent for the food, that experience would have turned me away from coming back ever again.

Comment: Sweet little sushi bar in a convenient area. Always consistent quality and service whether I am getting carryout, delivery or dining in. If you are in the heights than be sure to stop by and get a Philly Roll and some sake! Yum.

Comment: Top notch sushi in the Heights. They have a great menu and will customize nearly any order to suit your sushi tastes. The prices are a little high on straight sushi but the rolls are reasonably priced and filled with great flavor and fresh ingredients. The proximity to my apartment is why I appreciate this place so much. They practically know me by name now. Love it.

Comment: I agree, moved to Inwood a year ago and gave up on Japanese food around here until I tried Sushi Yu last night - really very good and by far the best in this part of Manhattan.
