Comment: You cant best Taikun. It’s truly the best omakase in the city - price point is very reasonable and there is not sacrifice in quality. I’ve been several times and the team is always on point. Highly recommend the beverage pairing. Will be back soon!

Comment: I find myself coming back over and over again to taikun. The quality and preparation of fish is incredible (I especially enjoy the smoked pieces), the service is impeccable, and all at an unbeatable $85 for omakase. They also have a bar hidden away behind the restaurant with an great list of Japanese whiskies as well as your normal fare!

Comment: Unbelievable hidden gem. Very private and intimate, with a light atmosphere. Food is outstanding as always, with seasonal additions to keep it new and fresh. Would definitely recommend the sake pairing - but the red wine is my go to for the smokier and more aromatic pieces. Fantastic for a sophisticated catchup with a friend, business meeting, or date.

Comment: Pleasantly good experience. Chef is trained under another Japanese chef whom I know. Style is more close to edomae sushi. Shari quality is overall good, although I prefer smaller size, different temp and tightness. Vinegar is in a good combination. Fish was fresh and especially liked Sanma, although i prefer more hikarimono like Iwashi and Kohada. But for this price, this is a solid good omakase choice. I will come back again as an edomae enthusiast.

Comment: The highlight of Taikun is their light but notable touch of flavor to each piece through the use of soy and sake marinades, yuzu, or even olive oil. The marinades were used on their king salmon, tuna, and ikura, the last of which was my favorite of the three; at no other omakase have I tasted slightly sweetened salmon roe. The sea bream topped with olive oil was unexpected but the flavors mixed surprisingly well. One piece was topped with yuzu and chili, which was my favorite piece of the night. Another piece that was a crowd favorite was flavored with smoked hay. I appreciated that none of the additional flavors were overpowering. It was 13 pieces for $85, after which I admit I was still hungry (though of course you can purchase additional pieces). I did feel like I was missing certain pieces I always look forward to, such as unmarinated king salmon and unmarinated otoro and chutoro. There was however the usual seared tuna piece. The chef and waiter were both kind and knowledgeable. The chef said their usual lineup is always the same, with only the extra pieces changing depending on the season which I thought was a bit backward. The place was small and intimate but nothing extravagant. Overall, I enjoyed the refreshing and new flavors I wouldnt otherwise have at other omakases. I would consider Taikun toward the higher end of mid-tier omakases.

Comment: Speakeasy omakase in NYC?? Sign me up!!Intimate. Fresh. Amazing. The first three words that pop in my mind after experiencing Taikun’s “pop-up” omakase dining experience.Best price ($85 pp + an optional $55 sake/wine pairing) for the best omakase experience one can find ANYWHERE. Three seating times available each evening, Sunday - Thursday. The space holds six (6) guests only during each time slot.Absolutely phenomenal food and experience!! We will definitely be back!

Comment: This is as good a sushi experience as there is in NYC. The fish is outstanding and has just a bit of the chef’s influence on each piece to keeps things interesting and fresh while still letting the ingredients stay in focus. The tiny scale—just six seats—allows for the intimacy between chef and diner that a top sushi restaurant should have, and the chef has exceptional knife skills; every texture was as it should be, with some, like the shrimp, having a bit of a crunch without being chewy, and others soft enough to melt on the palate but not mushy. It might be the city’s best regardless of cost and at the current price, $85 for the basic menu with the option to supplement with additional courses, it’s a must go.

Comment: Ferry-san. This place actually changes the stable NY omakase experience with personality ( chef Ferry is incredibly engaging) and a variety of fish that makes each piece of sushi so unique you want to ask for a second piece each time. The Hokkaido Scallop is ridiculous: just order a second one before you starting eating. Sake pairing is interesting but the star is the fish and Chef Ferry. Worth the trip and pop up concept as its long lasting timeframe makes it clear this place needs to stay in NY. Fatty tuna ..you think you have had otoro before? Nope, try Chef Ferrys take on it. King Salmon is normally my favorite but it wasnt a hit for me here though I gave it a thumbs up for being unique in its changed flavor. Side humor ...when Chef Ferry prepares the hand roll tuna, pay close attention to his rolling technique. Hipsters and anyone who has ever rolled anything will have a smile on their face. The hay smoked mackerel adds to the 420 vibe. the only downside is the dessert...too standard to match the fish and not a high quality mochi. I will be back, Ferry+san

Comment: Amazing small omekase place. The sushi was clean, creative and refreshing. At $85 it was a steal. We even got a couple extra pieces after, though 13 pieces should fill most people up.I highly recommend for a small party or date night. The chef was friendly and talkative, he even indulged my friends bad decision to try a spoonful of wasabi after the meal.Keep in mind they are not open Friday Saturday (during those days its a night club) and are reservation only!

Comment: Taikun Sushi is definitely a hidden gem since we passed their entrance until the neighbor directed us and I believe we are not the only group that got lost. We took a photo of their store front for everyones reference. We strongly recommend people who havent tried Sushi Omakase to try this place since the price is really reasonable with its quality and what they serve on the menu is basic & various. Its $85 per person for 12 pieces of sushi with one dessert. Each sushi was delicious and really fresh but what really impressed us was how the chef presented each piece with creativity. Our favorites were the King Salomn which melted in our mouth immediately and the Ikura which was marinated with sake. The Chef Kei Yoshino is super friendly, welcoming and funny. He is flexible with most request customers have and can customerize based on their needs.
