Comment: Food is always super quick to arrive and some of my favorite Japanese food in the Rochester area . Both me and my family frequently visit this location . You really can’t go wrong no matter what you get from the menu, it’s all delicious and can be rather affordable . My favorites though are the takoyaki, the Taisho Style Ramen, the katsudon, and the various yakitori !

Comment: In town visiting family. Its a tradition to go out for dinner together the night before I leave town. Taisho Bistro was recommended. The family went for dinner on a Saturday. Our server was very attentive (and fast!). Our table had Japanese fried rice with shrimp; grilled salmon; and noodles with chicken and vegetables. Everything came out hot and was delicious! For dessert we ordered fried ice cream, strawberry shortcake, and a cheesecake xangos. The fried ice cream and cheesecake xangos were delicious. The plating was really well done. I didnt care for the strawberry shortcake. The cake was not as moist as I would have expected and the strawberry filling seemed frozen. The family is looking forward to returning and trying takeout as well as other items on the menu. I am looking forward to returning the next time I am in town.

The staff is always willing to help whether they are your waiter or not. Its like they pay attention to when youre ready and when you need something theyre so responsive. They definitely care about the customer experience, I had a small sticky spot on my table and they were more than reasonably responsive to the issue, more that I think they needed to be which was amazing. I will definitely be back again and again and this is NOT my first time dining here either, just my first review. For a Japanese restaurant that serves the quality of food they serve here for the price they charge, no wonder they are so busy!

Comment: Had really high hopes for this place but maybe I wasnt being realistic about the Japanese food scene in this part of the state. Ill state for the record that it is not terrible by any means and I wouldnt mind ordering from them again. But the big letdown is that the food doesnt taste as authentic as how the menu looks. It is more on par with other Americanized hibachi places. For instance, the meat in beef gyudon isnt sliced or cooked in the traditional way - youll have better luck buying the frozen ones from Yoshinoya and cooking yourself. Okonomiyaki has bits of bacon in it and is too doughy. If you want something comparable to places in Manhattan (like I did), perhaps lower your expectation to avoid disappointment.

Comment: I’ve been going to Taisho Bistro in Buffalo for quite some time and I love it there. Was surprised to find out yesterday that they have a location in Rochester as well. The food quality seems to be on par with the Buffalo location, fish seemed fresh and the seasoning was very similar in both. The only thing I disliked is that we ordered some Japanese beer and it was room temperature, other than that is a very decent sushi/hibachi restaurant. I ordered beef tataki (delicious, meet was very rare as it’s supposed to be, and ponzu sauce mix was great), salmon torch (my favorite item on the menu, a slice of salmon sashimi wrapped around spicy crab meat and some sauce that I believe is some sort of miso reduction/emulsion), sushi was fresh and had a good ratio of rice and fish.Captions in each picture

I couldnt decide so i ordered many options. Each ine was an entree, and the proportions were big, especially with most items being between 10-15 dollars. I got the quail eggs, which was not an entree, omlette with ketchup and rice. The rice was spicy but still good. Salmon teriyaki ramen, was so good. Was a big bowl and came with a side of soup or salad. Katsudon, which is a pork cutlet rice bowl. I havent tried it so far but i am definitely looking forward to it. And the fried rice. Both the katsudon and fried rice came with a side of soup or salad. Im not a fan of miso soup, so i got 2 salads and one soup. The miso soup here is better than the one from plum garden, which is a japanese hibachi grill. But it was still not my favorite.

We also ordered a pork belly bun, mackerel, sushi (yellowtail & scallion) (eel & cucumber) and they were delicious! I probably would’ve ordered more if I wasn’t in such a rush. Yakitori, bacon scallops, smelt, chicken skin, can’t go wrong.If you order too many sushi or BBQ, it might be pricy, so plan it out. Theres always good ecclectic music playing, and the staff are all really friendly. The menu is friendly for people not familiar with a lot of Japanese cuisine since it has pictures which is nice seeing as how rare it is in Rochester. My food was very nice visually; they have all their own branded dinnerware and the place has that bistro atmosphere with an open kitchen. Wasabi Shumai is a good drinking appetizer, and TakoYaki is my favorite for flavor. Their fish ball soup is awesome with some Tamari added at the end. A bit plain for my taste but it was still good. The second visit I tried the sushi and the rolls are amazing!The prices are decent. The restaurant is pretty cool with a low light setting and unique decorations. The waiter was very helpful and friendly. The wait time is relatively low but it wasnt that crowded when I was there. Not super cheap, per se, but absolutely very fair. The food was great, though. I got the chicken katsu. It comes with a unique, tangy sauce thats almost like A1, but more zesty, less smoky. Strange but delicious. The chicken was prepared very well so that it was nice and crispy, but it was stacked on the plate so the bottom piece got a bit soggy. Still yummy, though. My wife ordered the American Dream roll, which she thoroughly enjoyed. The broth could have had a little more unctuous umami but was still quite good. I could easily see coming with some friends and ordering some drinks and a bunch of yakitori.
