Comment: Taka Sushi was recommended by my roommate’s sister and it’s a hidden gem with humble decor in Westbury.My daughter’s Chicken Tatsutaage and she loved it so much since it’s juicy with crispy layer.We highly recommend their Chirashi bowl which was served fresh with good portion and reasonable price. Our favorite was the grilled eel, flavorful and appetizing.

This was rated fairly highly so we gave it a chance.The place is dimly lit, its tight, but it feels amazingly cozy. The menu was simple enough, and the food was top notch. Comment: Don’t be fooled by the humble exterior, this is hands down the best sushi place on LI! The fish is fresh and delicious. It is a small place, so definitely make a reservation. If not, it is absolutely worth the wait. Our favorite is the toro (fatty tuna). Their sake selection is excellent. They offer one dessert, which is a Japanese flan and that was amazing as well. The service is great. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Comment: I have been going to Taka sushi for many years. I usually get Omakase sometimes with another special request. The sushi is not only very fresh but it’s so flavorful. I usually sit at the sushi bar and find that Taka, the owner is engaging and knowledgeable about the fish he serves. He has broadened my sushi pallet from eating only California rolls to eating more exotic sushi fare including nato and Uni(sea urchin). Over the years there have been many Japanese people at the restaurant . Some have told me that they come from 20 miles away to eat at Taka’s because the sushi and hot food are very authentic. I think it’s best to get reservations to assure that you will be able to be seated as sometimes it gets quite busy.

The staff is friendly and there is a huge selection of appetizers, entrees, and of course sushi. We went last night and tried five of the more special rolls and we were not disappointed. In particular the Dragon Roll #1 with its delicious avocado was a show stopper. They also have a fair selection of japense beer wine and sake. Truly a place not to miss, Im already looking forward to going back.

Comment: I was lucky enough to grow up in a town with 3 Japanese markets and one of LIs first Japanese restaurants, in the early- to mid-nineties. I used to sneak sushi into the house after school. (Only because it would ruin my appetite for dinner, not because my parents had anything against sushi.) Over the past ~25 years Ive gone out of my way to eat sushi everywhere from supermarkets to some of the top-rated places in the city.I only bring all of that up to put context to my assertion that Taka is among the best. The sushi is excellent, and even though I rarely go for the hot food, their donburi is also fantastic. Oh, and you know the terrible miso soup that comes from packets? Taka serves the exact opposite of that. Its dark, rich and homemade, and its pretty much worth going just for that.Some of the other comments said that the people at Taka are rude. I havent seen evidence of that. Theyre very nice, Ive found.

Comment: My favorite authentic omakase restaurant. Its inconspicuous decor screams authenticity. Its sign simply read sushi so many will miss it. But once inside, you know you found it.They have a wonderful selection of imported seafood so dont waste your money ordering rolls or fancy specials. They usually are subpar. You can tell because the head chef will not make it.Go for the sushi, the chirashi, or the omakase. To truly enjoy the omakase, sit at the counter as the head chef explains where each fish is from. Truly the best omakase experience. The only other place that tops this is Umi in Atlanta, GA.

Expect to see fish and preparations you wont see anywhere else as well as cooked meals that demonstrate a larger degree of care than is typical in a sushi specialized establishment. You need to be open to new and different tastes if you plan on making the most of Taka Sushi. If your idea of a good night out for sushi is getting the same 2 or 3 cut rolls you always get, then you wont be able to fully appreciate this.

Comment: Authentic sushi recommended by my Japanese friends as the ONLY place in Nassau County to go - try the Omikase and Peking Duck served the right authentic way! Also get a Saki sampling hot or cold. Awesome, fresh and outstanding. If dining in reserve a little table first. Youll be so so so happy with this food!

Comment: Amazing!! I love Sushi and enjoy it often throughout my travels, both internationally and the US. Taka is the best! The cuisine is traditional Japanese Sushi and so is his selection of fantastic imported Saki. So there will not be many Asian Fusion Confusion dishes with lots of mayo, if that is what you are looking for, However, you will find the freshest fish and incredible dishes prepared by a master Sushi Chef. The restaurant is small and easy to miss on Carman Ave; however, I believe there is no better Sushi restaurant on LI.
