Comment: The food was great there’s no denying that. However, the service wasn’t i couldn’t help but notice how the table next to ours was treated so much better. we weren’t even offered water while we were there, meanwhile all the other tables got refills and top notch service. We spent a good amount of money and ordered a decent amount of food, receiving better service would’ve been nice. That was the only disappointing part of this experience.

Comment: Ive eaten really, really good sushi and sashimi. This place comes close but for that price and the service, Ill give it a 5. Very lovely people who seem to enjoy what theyre doing. The food is really fresh. So instead of spending twice the amount of money somewhere midtown, you can go here for nearly close quality. Street parking is not that hard. A lot of good restaurants in the neighborhood too if you wanna check them out.

One person was vegetarian, so it was great to find an omakase place where we could all get something. All the staff were so sweet, considerate, and efficient. I would 100% recommend them.

Comment: One of the best sushi in nyc! We ordered a sushi set B and a Chirashi bowl. What surprised me is that their Chirashi bowl comes destructively. Meaning you can place your own fish, and it works perfect for me since I’m allergic to shellfish. So I get to place whichever place the type of fish I’d prefer in my Chirashi bowl. They serve 70-80% of sashimi straight from Japan. So the quality is there. The location of the shop is a few blocks away from 7. I’d recommend take a trip to visit them.

Comment: I came here with my parents and my girlfriend during Labor Day weekend. We arrived at 12pm and saw that there was a line waiting at the door (they open at 12). Im glad that @Righteous Eats from TikTok gave this spot positive exposure. We went with the omakase with four apps. Most noticeable ones were definitely the fugu skin, uni, and the rest of the nigiri. It is definitely a tier above other Japanese spots I go to and their ingredients are one of the freshest Ive ever had. Some info on the spot: the owner is closing the location because the landlord refused to reimburse the cost when the restaurant owner paid for the repairs after a robbery. Im glad I was able to support this business before they close at the end of September.

Comment: This highly understated sushi destination has been around since 1974. It is a legendary secret among sushi lovers.Last week, we had a team meeting and were pleasantly surprised by their top-notch Chirashi, gyoza, fried oysters, and sushi for lunch. My first experience here was after returning from a job in Japan. It was recommended by someone in Japan who had family in Queens.Omakase here has always been priced at about half the cost of Omakase in Manhattan. The quality is always just as good as Manhattan - without the ridiculous cost. All of the fish used for the menu comes straight from Japan every week. Kawada, the owner flies out himself and returns later in the day after visiting his favorite mongers and supKawakami,Sublime offerings at awesome prices. Highly recommended for true sushi and Japanese food lovers.

Comment: Delicious and lively lunch spot. Despite a rainy Friday, the place fills up quickly within first half an hour of open. Great value lunch deal where the meal comes with complimentary soup and salad along with free hot tea or water. We ordered sushi set and katsudon where the dish comes in full size unlike other restaurant where lunch portion is smaller. Food also comes out quick where we were able to be in and out within less than an hour. Highly recommend fried oysters - one of the best I’ve had at a Japanese restaurant in NYC area.Note that this restaurant is cash only. Wish this place would stay around though I heard that they will close soon.

Comment: We came during lunch, smaller menu options compared to dinner. They were really busy and probably short staffed. But service was still great.I got the Kaisendon & my wife got the Chirashi. The scallops in that dish were amazing! My wife loved her dish. She said the tamago in the dish was the best shes ever had.Someone from the kitchen came out and apologized ahead of time that it may take a bit, he was helping serve tea, water, salad and soup, even though he worked in the kitchen. The owner came to talk to us for a bit too, said he was closing and his other chef had already left then suddenly a lot of people started showing up.

Service was fast, friendly and professional. They have a wide selection of sake, and the quality of the fish here is so good that it forces you to slow down and really savor every bite. Toro, fluke, salmon, it was all amazing. As for the price, you will pay a lot more anywhere else for what you’ll get here. Gochisousama deshita

Comment: This is a true hidden gem of a Japanese restaurant. The place is no-frills but everything on the menu is truly authentic and seasonal. Fish is fresh, sourced by the chef himself every morning at the fish market. Everything in the lunch B I had today, from super fresh and tasty saba (mackerel) and maguro (tuna) sashimi, fugu (blowfish) tempura, grilled saikyo-zuke ebodai (butterfish), to the hijiki side was super delicious. And the price of $18 was unbelievable. This place outshines any pretentious omakase place in Manhattan. A must go.

Comment: I came here for me and my husband’s anniversary and it did not disappoint. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive with the atmosphere being laid back.We ordered an appetizer to share, two entrees to share, and orders of separate sushi / sashimi to enjoy.First the miso soup and salad were extremely fresh and flavorful. It really puts most other places to shame. Then the gyoza came out and was delicious. It was soft all and fresh and crispy at the bottom. The filling was delicious. The sauce that came with the gyoza was also very fresh and had a tinge of thickness to it.The two entrees we shared, chicken teriyaki and shrimp tempura entree were great! The chicken was juicy and fresh with the teriyaki sauce being clean and flavorful. The shrimp tempura was a star, the shrimp was super fresh with the batter being fresh, light and crunchy. The tentsuyu dipping sauce was light and flavorful, perfectly accompanying the fried batter.Lastly the sushi. A reasonably price for top quality sushi. It was soft and soooo fresh and delicious. The tuna melts in your mouth, especially the blue fin tuna. Lastly the yellow tail I got was so buttery and melts in your mouth.I can’t believe we only came here now. I can’t wait to come here and enjoy it again!

The tempura shrimp didn’t feel heavy like in other places. The breading was light and airy almost. The chicken teriyaki was sooo tender and juicy! And the miso soup tasted so flavorful. I gladly recommend this place to anyone who’s heard of it. Yes it’s cash only and their hours are limited so be sure to check beforehand. Please take a look!

Comment: Some of the best sushi I’ve had in NYC.It does not matter where you live in the 5 Burroughs it’s worth taking the time to come to this restaurant! Order the Omakase as a celebration, I tried to taka sushi sushi. The owner brings in only finest and freshest fish you can get. This is not inexpensive but it is much more affordable then what you would get in Manhattan if you can even find this good quality. Please note while the food is perfect this restaurant is owned and operated by the owner/sushi chef and his wife who works the front door. The service is quirky and can be on the slow side as there is mostly the owner at the sushi counter. The hot menu from the kitchen is just good as the sushi. You might as well be in Japan.Best miso soup also. I loved the black cod and yellow tail Kama. I can’t recommend it enough.

Comment: Low-key one of they best, most underrated Japanese restaurants in all of New York. They have almost every possible Japanese fare one could crave: dons (rice bowls), noodles like soba and udon, izakaya eats (you have to try the sea eel tempura) with classic Japanese beers/sake, fresh sushi/sashimi and some of the most delicious cooked fish Ive had (the blackened cod is a must). The best part is that everything Ive had here has been on point; I havent been disappointed with anything Ive ordered yet. Dont ignore this spot and support one of the best restaurants in Queens!

Comment: An actual gem of Sunnyside, dare I call it an institution. Takesushi is unassuming from the outside but take one look at the menu and youll realize this isnt your average sushi restaurant. The menu is ever-changing, the fish is fresh (sometimes straight from Japan!), and the price gives Manhattan joints a run for their money (but a little higher than what youd expect to pay in Queens). During COVID, they have been expanding their takeout options and the food is always meticulously packaged. Dine in or take-out, I highly recommend this place, its truly an experience if youre seeking some unique sushi options!

Comment: Takesushi is one of the best Japanese restaurants we have visited recently and we highly recommend it.There is currently no outdoor dining available but only Take-out. The menu is limited with super reasonable price and great portion. We had their tempura don, eel don, fried oysters and yellowtail Kama. The food was overall not delicate but delicious and satisfied especially the tempura don. There were 3 pieces of shrimp tempura, various veggie tempura over rice for only $7, which was an incredible price in NYC. The shrimp was fried soft, not crispy but still fresh and juicy. They also served sashimi and uni, which we would like to try next time. The only complaint is that it’s cash only which is our concern during COVID-19.

Comment: Dont let the basic interior fool you, Takesushi is a gem of a sushi restaurant in Queens and in my opinion one of the best in the borough. I would say though that the prices are a bit on the pricier side compared to other sushi restaurants in Queens and even rival prices in Manhattan. However, the sushi is always fresh and tasty - Im always satisfied after a meal here. There are also a lot of choices when it comes to sushi entrees other than the usual offerings like a sushi deluxe, chirashi bowl, etc. The chef also flies to Japan regularly to get fresh and unique fish that you wouldnt normally see in other sushi restaurants.

Comment: If you love sushi and like experiencing new and exotic type of fish, then this is the place for you to go if you live in Queens. I recommend this place even to my friends that live in Manhattan because it’s worth it. Their fish is fresh and bi feel like they really put their soul in making this a special experience. The reason I gave them 4 starts is because few times the fish wasn’t fresh and I could taste it immediately. Nevertheless, I went there two days ago and the sushi deluxe set for two was amazing! Will be definitely going back for their anniversary dinner where you can experience really rare and unique fish that the chef if importing from Japan.

Comment: After several visits I confirmed this super low key, most underrated, 45 year-old Japanese restaurant has become my favorite place to go in NYC. Occasionally the owner carried seafood and fishes strict from fish market in Tokyo to their restaurant here in New York. I have been to a lot more expensive Japanese sushi restaurant in the city but here I could guarantee you got the best value of food with the money you paid. Tonight I have tried their 45th anniversary dinner and its worth every penny. Also the people here are all super friendly and attentive.

Admittedly, I did not enjoy the monkfish liver at all but its something different we wanted to try. The homemade gyoza was cooked perfectly and all of the fish was very fresh and delicious. Looking forward to going back and exploring the menu more. Comment: Super glad I got to try this place out. They do offer omakase but I didnt try it. Instead, I opted for the sushi set B ($27) which comes with 8 pieces of nigiri, miso soup, salad AND your choice of a roll : salmon, California, spicy salmon or spicy tuna.Something that stood out to me here was that they bring their fish by hand from Japan. They were actually going to be closed tomorrow so they can bring Fish from Japan. AND from the well known Tsukiji Fish Market. The fish were all fresh, and everything came out looking clean. The servers spoke Japanese and were super polite. They came by multiple times if everything is well, if we needed more tea, how everything is.TakeSushi is definitely a place to check out if youre craving sushi, whether youre around or not. You can try the fish from Tsukiji Market without going to Japan, and thats a small price to pay compared to tickets!

Comment: First time here.Perhaps it is because I walked in an hour before they close, things are little sloppy in the restaurant. The first appetizer have hair in it and taste a little off, then the soup spoon are not washed clean, with visible cabbage( or garlic, not sure what it is) on it. Lobster soup was really salty. In the picture you can see a piece of uni sushi with discoloration on top left corner. Again, I assume its because I walked in late so things are not the freshest.Sushi it self taste.. Nothing special, its decent but not amazing. They taste almost as same as AYCE sushi quality. Personally I dont think it worth the price. Sushi craftsmanship is again ordinary. I can visibly see some pieces of fish have frost damage, indicating it either been in fridge for too long or it got defrosted under running water. It was OK. Not bad not good. Was gonna give 3 stars but at the end of meal they provide free dessert, so thats one more star.

Comment: Chef Kawada is a one time fish monger, distributor, who turned info a sushi chef. He likes all thing fish. He goes to Fulton fish market everyday at 3AM to get his fish, all half decent sushi chef need to do this himself. He doesnt have to do this but he wants, cause he loves his profession. That makes a great chef and in turn demands at least our recognition.FYI, the Uni we had was as fresh as it can be, of course this all depends with what the market had to offer, if you are unsure, ask chef Kawada.

Comment: I came for two things: the uni don and the fugu (puffer fish sashimi). The decor is casual, unassuming, located just off of Queens Boulevard. But from the moment you walk in your greeted with professionalism and warmth. Every member of the staff was friendly and patient, smiling all the time and willing to answer any questions and make customizations to any order. My tea cup and water glass were never empty.I had never had fugu before, so I didnt want to commit to the entire sashimi plate. Instead they made a special smaller plate for me and that was perfect. I found the flavor to be very mild, the texture a little on the chewier side. I dont know that I would get this again, the flavor being too delicate for me to really pick up, but the fish was certainly fresh. But I really loved my uni and salmon don. So fresh! And for $20 its a very generous portion. I swear even the wasabi and soy sauce were some of the best Ive ever had. Id love to come back for their whole fried shrimp heads and kumamoto oysters. The only downside to the entire experience was the top 40 they were playing- Katy Perrys California Girls is not at all what I need to hear when Im eating any meal, but especially a meal like this haha.

Comment: I have gone here twice and I enjoyed the food. I tried Maine sea urchin here for the first time, which was good but lacked flavor. I loved the California sea urchin that I also ordered and found it more flavorful. Also, I tried the special they had for lunch, which was tuna and fried squid; both of which was fresh and delicious. The tuna, was silky and not fried, it was a very different texture from the usual tuna Ive ever eaten. I can honestly say their fish here is fresh. The service here was great, I just wish the tea service was faster. This place is great for lunch time. The second time I went here was during dinner, which I felt was still great, but you get more out of your money if you come here for lunch. I took the train, which its two blocks away from the 7 train. If you drive here, from what I was told during the day time, it is not hard to find parking in the area.

Comment: Authentic japanese food! I visited a couple times for lunch and dinner. Its literally right around the block from Ariyoshi which I used to frequent. Theres alternate side street parking if your lucky or you can park under the 7 train. The first time I came, I brought some beer since its BYOB and the waitress was confused and informed me they just received their beer license. They let me drink my beer anyway. On my most recent visit, the place was about to close for lunch but the owner lady still let me sit.The lunch sets are really worth it for $12 and comes with 4 dishes, miso soup, and salad with ginger dressing. I opted for the sushi set which had 4 pieces of sushi, teriyaki salmon, sea bass with some dipping sauce, and veggies. Bf had a sushi set which was $14 which included sushi and a roll (pick any that is less than $8) on the menu. The sushi is really fresh compared to other places. The lobster roll special was so good and I wish they had it more often.Service is great and seems like the whole family works there. I hope this business succeeds cause its become one of my fav Japanese places.

Comment: Put your NYC traveling shoes on, time to get on the 7-train! Takesushi is a wonderful sushi restaurant hidden away on a side street off Queens Blvd. Its easily accessible by train and a no brainer with a car. I have heard the owner runs one of the larger fish importers in NYC which explains why the fish at Takesushi is amazing. Its a huge menu of fish with a wide variety of unique items and a large array of preparations. There is even some dictum on the back of the menu about which fish to not eat, such as escolar (Google search the debate, its serious).Weve had several cooked items which were delicious as well, but youre really coming here for the raw fish, everything we had was fantastic. The service was solid as well. We were excited to see that we were the only non-Japanese people in the restaurant (usually a good sign).Would be a five star, except the decor is awful and the restaurant feels like 1973.

Comment: I am a long time sushi eater and have a preferred place that I always end up comparing any new place to. However I did hear good things about Takesushi and it comes highly recommended. At first glance it looks like a small intimate place but once your inside, it has good lighting and a nice modern and relaxing feel. The servers were very friendly and do the little things like make sure you have everything you need and are comfortable, especially if you have a little one (3 year old) as we did.Now as Ive been to different kinds of sushi places, from the sit downs to the all you can eat. The one stand out for Takesushi is the quality of their food. Everything was fresh and the flavors of the appetizers right down to the sashimi were top notch. My daughter had some gyoza and shrimp shumai and the shrimp shumai were homemade and not something frozen or out of the box. She is a picky eater however, she was not picky here. My wife and I had the assortment of sashimi and an appetizer of fried chicken chunks. The chicken had great flavor in the breading and the chicken was nice and juicy. The quality of the sashimi excellent as it looked amazing while the taste was even better.I live in NJ and would definitely make the trip out to Sunnyside for an excellent sushi experience.

Comment: Im coming from a background where I thought any restaurant with the word Japanese in it was an authentic. In the past few years Ive learned the difference between the places that I once thought to be real Japanese food (usually run by Chinese or Koreans - nothing wrong with that, but its not real Japanese cooking/dishes/taste) and those that serve authentic (or as close to food served in Japan) Japanese food because of my girlfriend.Coming back from a recent trip to Japan and experiencing the wonderful food the country has to offer, the expectations of Japanese food vs the reality thats offered in the states is quite wide. There are various places around the city, and also in Queens that serve very good Japanese food, but nothing that wasnt a train ride or a car ride away. The local places here in Sunnyside are usually Asian fusion, or just dont meet my expectations of good Japanese food.On this muggy and rainy night, we decided to give this place a shot - even though looking at the setup from outside it looked just like any other sushi place for those looking for a quick bite to eat and not really focusing on the quality of the food or service. Pleasantly surprised, as soon as we walked in we were greeted in Japanese - a very warm welcome for someone whos having Japan withdrawal after a great trip. The menu is scarce but enough to fill mostly anyones appetite coming in. We decided not to get the sushi this time and opted for some Japanese dishes that I usually judge the restaurants on. These are usually things I get when I go to a restaurant that claim to be Japanese - agedashi tofu, tebasaki and gyoza.Agedashi tofu: Delicious (Oishii!), this was made very well. The consistency of the tofu and the agedashi was well balanced, just right. It was so good that I ate it even though it burned my mouth, I couldnt help myself.Tebasaki: Another +1 for the chicken wings. Again, the sauce used on the chicken wings was not so over powering to lose the flavor of the chicken, instead it complemented it very well.Gyoza: Their menu says home-made and sometimes from other restaurants, this means that it was home-made somewhere, more often than not it was home-made in a factory and youll see it in the frozen food section in the local supermarkets - these are not. These could very well have been home-made in the kitchen just like some other Japanese restaurants that I frequent in the city. Browned properly and not burnt, these were also very good.We had another dish, I cant remember the name but it was grilled tuna jaw. They served us a big piece, but this is only temporary since its still considered their grand opening. Even if they gave us a half-portion we would have been very happy. This had a great balance of crunch on the outside and the inside being juicy and tender. An important food that we also had was the rice - often reviews neglect the simple bowl of rice, but this is key in any Asian restaurant. The rice here was well cooked with the right water to rice ratio - might sound simple enough but Ive been to restaurants where the consistency of the rice was either hard and crunchy or way too mushy and wet.I dont have any negatives to say about Takesushi so far. Theyve made a good/great impression on us and were definitely going to be coming back here, often. The food is good to great, the service was very attentive, prices were very reasonable, the location is excellent. The only possible downside was that we waited for our food longer than other restaurants, but I think the reason why the wait was just a little longer was that care was taken in preparing each dish and that each dish was freshly made to order. Keep that in mind when going here, and I do hope that the quality of the food and service continue.
