Comment: Their spicy ramen cured my depression, but gave me emotional damage.I will never be able to have ramen again without comparing it with the spicy ramen I had today, the only runner up to this amazing spicy ramen I ever ate that could get remotely close to the spicy ramen they served me today is their classic ramen. So ef you tonchin and I hope to cross your threshold again, eventually.

Comment: The broth is excellent, very rich and tasty without being overly salty or oily. The chashu is sliced thinly which I didn’t love - because it doesn’t give you the crispy charred texture on the skin that you might get with the thick pieces. But it was still good. Mushroom kimchi was very unique and tasty, but the portion was quite small. Service was friendly and atmosphere was very nice. Overall, very good. One of the best ramen I’ve had.

Comment: A bit hard getting a reservation Friday night but I snagged one last minute. Service was amazing my food came out within 10 mins of ordering. I ordered the spicy tan tan ramen. It was good — pork slices were a bit thinner than expected and I was expecting a bit more spice — nevertheless I’d still recommend.

Comment: Better than Ippudo! Come with a reservation!Got the chicken bao, chicken wings, tonkatsu ramen and mango shaved ice! All dishes were solid but my favorite was the chicken bao, tonkatsu ramen and mango shaved ice. The service was really good, we felt cared for but not rushed. Vibe is hip, lights were dim low and music wasn’t loud or distracting. Would come back!

Comment: Alright, so I finally hit up Tonchin in New York, and let me tell you, it was even more awesome than I heard! Hands down, this is the best ramen I’ve had since I was in Japan. I tried the spicy tantan – the bartender mentioned it’s a total hit there, and yeah, it’s a winner for sure. The broth was out of this world – super flavorful, rich, and with the right amount of kick. The pork was tender and tasty, and the noodles? Absolutely spot on. Usually, I’m all about extra noodles, but this time, I wanted to enjoy every bit of that incredible broth without drowning it in extras. And, getting a table? Way easier than I thought. I booked a bar seat on Resy for an early time, and it was smooth sailing. If you’re thinking about trying Tonchin, just do it. It’s a game-changer.

Comment: Food is as good as last time. However the waiter keeps checking us in a frequency that almost feels like she wants us to rush up and finish the food so she could clean the table to serve more people. She checked three to four times even when we still had food on our plates. This is my second time visiting and its not a nice experience. Foods are great as always though.

Comment: We went on the 8th and the food was so good we made a reservation for the next day to come back again! I got the spicy tan tan, my husband got the vegan option. Both were DELICIOUS! The broth of the spicy tan tan had me seeing god. It brought a tear to my eye. They do a lunch combo that is a good value. We did the salad one day and a mushroom bun the other. The buns were so good but the standout to me between the two was the salad because the dressing was so good. The shaved ice was amazing for dessert! We got the mango both times because why mess with a good thing although the matcha one looked amazing when we saw someone else order it. They even wrote happy birthday in chocolate for my husband on the plate and put a little candle which was so cute and nice!!Our server was super nice and on top of everything! We had the same person both days which is a treat!I would return, and will as soon as I am in the city again. It took all my willpower to not buy one of the super cute 6th anniversary shirts or hoodies while we were there.Go, bring friends, it’s amazing.

Comment: The service here was sort of chaotic. We were a table of 7 and ordered 2 chicken and 2 gyoza as a table for apps and it all came out separately. It was difficult to share the way it came out, the last gyoza even came out after the ramen. I would recommend the classic tonkatsu ramen over the tan tan even if you like something spicier because the tan tan broth was not as rich and fragrant (it was nutty and creamier) - just get regular tonkatsu and add spice. Overall though I would definitely go back it was very good food if you want to splurge.

Comment: Tonchin’s Classic Tokyo Tonkotsu Ramen is by far the best ramen in the whole of NYC, and well worth the 1 hour wait (we foolishly did not make reservations but it was still worth it). It is so good that I honestly can’t describe it, but what I can say is that it tastes like ramen that you would find in Tokyo - the ‘Tokyo’ in the dish’s name is really apt. However, I was rather disappointed by their service during my most recent visit. The staff for that shift were rather impatient and were subtly rushing us to finish our meal. Within a period of 15 minutes, they asked us 3-4 times if we were done with our bowl even though we were clearly not done with our meal (my bowl was still more than half full!). Additionally, when we were making payment, the staff member who was facilitating the payment pressured us into giving a tip that was unreasonable and more than what we were comfortable in giving. It was a real shame that the poor service spoiled what was otherwise a delightful culinary experience, especially since we know from prior visits that Tonchin’s service is usually much better.

Comment: Ive tried a LOT of the ramen places around the city, and this remains one of my favorites. The tan tan is good; but I actually usually prefer to get the mazeman, which has a nice kick to it. The mango shaved ice is a must here, and the tempura fish bun is top notch! Be sure to make a reservation for this place.

Comment: The first thing you need to know is you should have a reservation or plan to wait. When I showed up for our reservation the host was so overwhelmed by walk-ins he forgot who I was between me checking in and tapping on the window to have my guests join me inside.First impressions aside the space is beautifully designed with the kitchen at the rear of the space but open to the dining room so you can see all the action. The menu is slightly different from a typical ramen joint as one of their unique offerings is “rice balls” each being served slightly differently. The shishito peppers are a small but mighty serving. While you only get 10 they pack a flavored seasoning that makes them a solid choice. The gyoza are also unique here as they are served in a hot cast iron pan and a starch broth is poured over them table side making for a nice sizzling platter. Unlike traditional gyoza there are not stuck together but more individual dumplings. They don’t need the chili sauce but you do you. There are three different styles of ramen dry mazemen noodles, dipping noodles, and classic ramen noodles. We tried the Ban Ban Kinoko, the smoky dashi ramen, and the classic tonkatsu. All were delicious. The smoky dashi was super earthy and rich with a slight slickness on the surface of the broth. The noodles had just the right bite and there were at least a dozen clams in the soup.We did not order the shaved ice dessert but it is huge and quite popular. All in all, I was very impressed and will come back to try a few different items. Of course, I will be making a reservation as no one should ever wait 2hrs to eat.

Went without a reservation on a Wednesday evening during the holidays and had a 2 hour wait which isn’t bad because you can explore a lot of other things around the area. Both the classic and the spicy tan tan really impressed us and were definitely worth the hype. The broth was perfectly flavoured and the meat was so tender and nice, loved it!Service was fast, courteous and simple just like it should be. Definitely recommend checking it out

Comment: Great ramen choice around Empire State Building area and 5th Ave shopping.Dined in late afternoon weekday, but still a small wait. Most unique are the ramen chashu are sliced thinly, and dimmed candle lit dining after 4:30 pm. Ramen seemed to be a good value with egg and various additions into the standard $20 pricing. Suggest the bamboo that is a large chunk be sliced thinner for easier consumption but may be an acquired taste.

Whether youre a fan of traditional tonkotsu, spicy miso, or vegetarian options, Rochon Ramen has something for everyone. The broth is rich and flavorful, the noodles are cooked to perfection, and the toppings are fresh and abundant. One thing that truly sets Rochon Ramen apart is the attention to detail. The presentation of each dish is impeccable, and you can tell that every ingredient is carefully selected and prepared with care. The staff takes pride in their work, and it shows in every aspect of the dining experience. The cozy ambiance and friendly staff make it a perfect spot for a casual meal with friends or a quiet date night. The menu offers a variety of options beyond ramen, so theres something for every palate.I also appreciate the vegetarian and vegan-friendly choices available. Its great to see a restaurant that caters to diverse dietary preferences without compromising on taste.Rochon Ramen is a culinary delight that I cant recommend highly enough. Comment: Love this place. Definitely worth trying it if you’re a Ramen fan. I always get the “Spicy Tan Tan” ramen - delicious! The pork is sliced thinly, very delicate, and it’s not as fatty as in other places👍🏼 side salad with the lunch offer has a delicious sesame(?) dressing. Only one star deducted cause it’s a little pricey.Staff is friendly and attentive!Restrooms are clean and have a nice scent (who wants to dine in a restaurant that doesn’t have tidy restrooms right?!)I will be back!

Comment: This restaurant received Michael star continuously for 3 years (2019-2021). We went here for lunch and unfortunately didn’t had a reservation. Had to wait 50 minutes to get a table. So please reserve a table before if you ever plan to visit this restaurant. We ordered the following items:1. Kinoko Bun - it came with layer of egg salad and grilled mixed mushrooms. The bun was soft and was melting in the mouth.2. Miso Ginger Ramen - I’m not a ginger fan, but I liked this ramen. The flavor was ginger wasn’t strong so that was nice for me. Surprisingly, they didn’t put mushrooms or tofu in here. I believe adding these items will increase the flavor of ramen.3. Ban ban kinoko - one of the best peanut noodle I ever had. One must try this!!Overall, the portion size was big. Be mindful of the wait time. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Comment: The bingsoos were shockingly good, full of flavor, light, and fluffy. I liked the illusion of a ball of mozz on top (actually thick whipped cream). I think the ramen was good and rich, but … maybe too rich? Although it didn’t feel oily. I think the bowl could have had more ramen and more things for the price. The appetizer wings were awesome, with a bit of mala spice, but the gyoza were nothing to rave about.

Comment: They accept both walk ins and reservations. We walked in for table for 2 around 6pm Sunday night and got seated around 15 min. So not bad at all.We got..1) chicken bun which was delicious.2) gyoza, honestly it was just ok.3) Classic Tokyo ramenThe chicken bun was really good, highly recommend.I would say skip the gyoza. The ramen broth was rich and flavorful, the char sui was a little too thin and dry for my liking but my partner likes it.The noodles were good. The scallions were a nice touch.Service was good.It was about $91 USD total. So I would say about the same price as other ramen joints like Ichiran.I would say if you are around the area and wanting ramen definitely check it out but I wouldnt travel out of the way for it.

Comment: Had the tantanmen several times here. Very good, 8/10 though as I must say, as a total ramen snob, the last time I was here they were 10/10. So something changed, to my palate, perhaps it was the ratios of Tonkotsu broth to the other broth present in the dish composition. Also, managements turn the lights down too low for my liking. I could not really see what I was eating in the dark. Since these ramen bowls are such a feast for the eyes as well, I felt like that was a little bit disappointing to not see the range of colors present in my dish. Anyway, if youve never been here, I have 100% suggests you make a trip out here to experience. Very good ramen and a generally great experience.

Comment: Mixed opinions of Tonchin. I like it, but to me, it is not the most amazing ramen place. The pork is a touch too salty and I never feel inclined to drink all of the broth in the tonkotsu ramen. That is a different story, however, with the tsukemen dipping ramen. Ask for bone broth at the end of the meal to mix into the dipping broth to create the tastiest, most savoury broth youve ever had.The rice ball appetizers are also incredible.

Comment: Ramen was Japan level tonkotsu, the broth was thick/ rich /amazingMy problem is the atmosphere, too much like a club vs a ramen shop, its small and dark and the music is rather loudHonestly the atmosphere isnt the worst, the ramen was better than the recent bowl of ippudo westside, but the atmosphere was immensely better at ippudo and much more traditionalHonestly the ramen is worth it even tho expensive, but Just as expensive as everywhere else so not like its moreI Did have a really sketchy experience from the bartender with a free drink of sake, honestly I really dont want to go into detail about it but .... I wouldnt accept another free drink on the house honestlyAll in all, the ramen was better but my experience was not as good

Comment: Usually hyped food is, uh, overhyped. Michelin and receiving stars or a Bib Gourmand from them is not without its politics. I didnt go in expecting to be wowed. I just wanted to sit at a ramen bar and have a quiet meal on a cool autumn night.Pleasantly, Tonchins spicy tan tan ramen ($21) was not overhyped. Upon the first spoonful of the silky, rich pork bone broth, all my neurons lit up. Ive had plenty of greasy, spicy ramen with an oil spill worth of mild chili oil on the surface in an attempt to make it spicy. No oil spills here. Just a sheen of red hot chili oil over the surface, and a bisected soft yolk egg and other toppings boosted out of the broth by a bed of chewy homemade noodles.Nit: why on earth is the chashu thinly shaved instead of sliced thick?

Comment: The ramens my friend and I got were both good—broth flavors, noodle textures, etc. But it wasn’t a memorable ramen for me, but that’s not to say anything negative. I think for the price of the ramens, I may have been expecting more. Not bad at all, just a little boring. Dessert was good, too, and our server was really great despite the lateness of the night.

We ordered the tabesaki, tsukune buns, chasu rice ball, smoked dashi ramen, Tokyo classic ramen, and spicy goma tsukemen. Everything was delicious! Each broth had a rich and distinct flavor. Highly recommend!!!

Comment: This is a nice modern noodle bar so really nice to get away from hole in the wall ones around town. Soup very flavorful and noodles quite tasty. I say definitely one of best ramen places in NYC but need some Japanese draft beers and not the boring two available currently. Kaedama is way too expensive.

Comment: Definitely book a recommendation in advance. The spot is nestled near 5th street and time square, so you have things to do during your wait time if needed. We were told 1.5 hours but only had to wait 1 hour. The classic tonkatsu ramen was superb. The broth was silky and flavorful. The chicken wings were a great pick too!My only plight was the service felt very rushed. I understand they need high turnover to accommodate everyone; however, I didnt feel like I could fully enjoy the meal. 4.5.

Comment: Everything here is outstanding. All the noodle dishes were phenomenal and the broth was soooo good. We got:Spicy Tan Tan RamenSpicy Goma Tsukeman Dipping NoodlesBan Ban Chicken Mazeman NoodlesThe spicy tan tan is delicious and the broth has cashews in it which makes it really nice. I made the mistake of putting all the noodles into the broth for the second item. Dont do that! The noodles and garnish come separate and you dip each bite in the broth before you eat. The Ban Ban Chicken noodles are a cold dish and they are outstanding!

Comment: This was an easy 5 star to give — best ramen I’ve had! The classic Tokyo tonkotsu was great. I like the spicy tan tan ramen. It isn’t super spicy, just a bit more of a kick. The cashews and ground pork give it such a deep, nutty, creamy flavor. The Gyoza pork dumplings are delicious! Strawberry shaved ice to end the meal was so refreshing. It doesn’t taste like fake strawberry syrup; it’s fresh strawberries and purée. Service was fast and friendly. The ambience was stellar. If you want ramen, come here!

Comment: Brilliant Japanese restaurant! We visited it because of the ramen selection but were fascinated by a lot of other dishes and their unique and great taste. We started with the chicken tsukune buns, unagi (eel) rise balls and the pan-fried gyoza. Loved them all! Of course we ordered two types of ramen as this was our goal - the classic tonkotsu ramen (tasty and balanced) and the smoked dashi ramen (if you love sea food and the taste of it, you should try it). It was our mistake not to leave any place for dessert - the signature desserts (kaki-gori shaved ice with different flavors) looked amazingly refreshing. The service was perfect - helping us by patiently explaining every dish, advising and guiding us all the way.

Comment: I had the Spicy Goma Tsukemen and the Shrimp Rice Ball. The Shrimp Rice Ball was surprisingly nice. The Spicy Goma Tsukemen itself was a hit and miss. The soup was excellent, perfectly seasoned. The noodle/ramen itself was so average, it was like something that you could buy at an Asian shop that would cost you a dollar at most. Shared a dessert with my friend; we had the Mango Shaved Ice. It was okay I suppose. Service was excellent though. Very attentive waitress.

Comment: Visited Tonchin on Sunday night. There was a waitlist and they told us about 45 minutes and we put our number down and proceeded to walk around the city. They texted us around 30 minutes that our table was up. The vibe of this ramen restaurant is dark, sexy, bar vibes. There are booths for bigger parties and plenty of 2 seater tables. We ordered the tebasaki wings, Tokyo classic ramen, and the spicy tan tan ramen. The tebasaki wings were so good! Lightly coated in a soy sauce glaze, perfectly fried, the bones had good flavor when you crunch into them as well—they are a must get! The Tokyo classic is a classic tonkatsu ramen, the broth was good but there was a lot of oil unsurprisingly, we didn’t finish the broth due to the thick layer of oil on top of the noodle soup. The spicy tan tan was delicious, nutty, not too spicy, the egg and meats were good. We ended our meal with a strawberry kakigori and OMG I enjoyed this just as much, if not more than my ramen!!! The ice was so smooth, not crunchy and hard like some other ones. The kakigori is layered so you get flavor and fresh fruit as you dig deeper into it. Also, there’s a salted whip creme on top that just pairs superbly with the strawberry shaved ice. This ramen restaurant is good, the vibes are great. You can come alone or with a small group. The kakigori and wings are amazing. It is good ramen for the price point of around $20 for it. Check it out!!

Comment: This was a place my friend from Japan wanted to try out, and I can never turn down noodles so i tagged along. We made a reservation for 11:30 on a Monday, and the restaurant filled up pretty quickly even for a weekday afternoon. The restaurant itself was simple but homey, with an open kitchen at the back so you can see the chefs cooking. It was pretty chilly though, so make sure to bring a jacket!I did the lunch set with a tsukune bun and original tsukemen. The bun was delicious! I’ve had baos before, but the coleslaw meshed really well with the meat and teriyaki sauce. The tsukemen was good too! The broth was just right (I saw reviews that their ramen broth was on the saltier side so I chose the tsukemen to be safe), and I was surprised by just how much noodles they piled on. The fact that a jammy egg was included was a great plus too!The yuzu margarita was refreshing and tart. The black salt on the rim was a nice touch, and the drink balanced out the meal nicely. All in all, I would definitely like to come back again! I wanna give their shaved ice a try, when I’m properly armed with a jacket lol

Comment: The best ramen that Ive had in a very long time! The noodles are the perfect amount of bite, the broth is very rich and unctuous, and the pork is delicious. I love how thin the pork is so that the fat is evenly distributed in every bite. There were also thick chunks of bamboo shoots, which are usually not my favorite but the thick cut made for a really interesting texture. The perfect ending to this umami-laden meal? The finely shaved mango ice with sweet honey cream on top and bits of mango fruit hidden in the middle. I was thinking about that dessert for hours after. Yum!To add to the experience, the minimal and modern design, from the heavy metal door to the simple servingware, was a joy to behold.

Many reviewers here complain about the service here, especially during peak hours. However we did not experience any poor service. New York City prices so bring your Credit Cards 💳. Definitely worth a try, especially if you’re Ramen 🍜 fan. I liked that the pork was thinly sliced. We will definitely be going back.

Comment: Brought my family for ramen for dinner. Tonchin had cool vibes inside, my kids asked why it’s so dark lol. We started with the curry and cheese wings which sounds weird but they were delicious and a flavour we have never thought of together. They provide wet naps on a plate. My kids had the original ramen and they liked it. I had the smoke one and wow! The flavour was wonderful and again so unique. I have never had a ramen with this smoky flavour. My husband had the spicy one and really enjoyed it. Definitely enjoyed Tonchin and would come back in the future!

Other food we ordered tasted magnificent and price very reasonable too. Food didnt take long to be served too. Comment: Good place for Japanese noodles. Ramen is pretty good: broth is flavorful and meat is super tender. Mazemen is quite interesting: good for a hot day since its cold noodle, but its a little heavy. They also have tsukemen but I believe the dipping broth is similar to the ramen one. Comment: Tonchin is a midtown classic- you can’t go wrong here. I got the tokyo classic tonkonstu, and it always hits the spot. the chashu is very thin, which is not my favorite, but every other aspect of the ramen is spot on. the broth is rich, but not too heavy, and the noodles are springy and chewy. tonchin is from japan, which doesn’t necessary mean that it’s better, but it definitely has that vibe. the spicy chicken wings and rice balls are always good apps to share. for dessert, the mango kakigori is delicious and a perfect way to end the meal.

Comment: For an east coast ramen shop, Tonchin definitely deserves a five star rating. I ordered the spicy tan tan ramen where the broth was really rich and the noodles were a good level of chewy. The other ingredients like the mushrooms and soft boiled egg were also well executed and paired nicely in the dish. On the side I had an unagi rice bomb which went well with the whole meal. This place had Michelin stars in the past and is still a recommended spot. Being from California I have a slight preference for the shops on the west coast but this is definitely a must try in NY!

Everything was perfectly cooked from the noodles to the egg. We also split the spicy chicken wings, and theyre the top wings Ive ever had with perfectly crispy skin and juicy meat and excellent seasoning. For dessert I got the Tokyo Banana, which was a perfect balance of sweet, salty, creamy, and crunchy, and the caramelized banana was a perfect garnish.I also got a yuzu margarita to drink and it was a very well made drink, and the giant ice cube they used made sure that nothing got too watered down. Comment: Picked this restaurant as my Sunday Stroll last week for my upcoming novel Table for One. Thats a joke google please dont take this review down for self-promotion. Well lets call it a half joke.Anyways, this place is IDEAL for solo dining.I have high standards for ramen as I have had a plethora of it when I was galavanting in Japan... yeah Im like that.I make the walk from the Wayland in Alphabet City (review coming soon), and I walk in and ask if they have any availability for 1 and they said there is room at the bar. Perfect.I sit down and have a digital menu which is the norm now, although I miss physical menus with all of my soul. The bartender was inviting and welcoming, and with his help I decided to order the Shrimp Tempura hand roll and the Tonkotsu Ramen.I was debating getting a drink as the vibes were UP, but mid-day on a Sunday I just couldnt pull the trigger. The tempura handroll came first and was a nice appetizer for the ramen after I just banked like 4,500 steps to get to Midtown. The ramen came next and the broth was absolutely perfect, and really helped the violent hangover I had from the night before due to all that mezcal.Overall, Tonchin absolutely blew me away. I really thought no ramen in NYC could touch Ichiran, but we may have found its match. The Thor to Ichirans Loki. The Frazier to Ichirans Ali. The Roark to... ahahah jk Im done with those.Love Speech!

They open promptly at 12pm and there’s usually a lot of people already outside 30 mins before. It’s got a cool bar with some complex cocktails, the Pandan White Negroni was my personal favourite. The gyozas are absolutely delicious and remind me of little baos. Their broth is thick and flavourful, and the noodles were well made. The Spicy Tan Tan ramen has a chilli flavour to it, but it’s not too spicy - in case you are thinking about it but are worried about the kick.Overall, this place is well run and the food is delicious. The meat was extremely well-cooked, and the vegetables and other additions worked well with the ramen. The broth itself was a bit on the saltier side, but I generally prefer my food to be less saltier. We didn’t order the shaved ice, but we saw some tables order and it looked delicious.Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice bowl of ramen and would order the shaved ice next time we’re here.

Comment: A THOUSAND TIMES YES!Seriously, this has to be on the top three on my list of best ramen shops in the world (#1 being Ichiran in Tokyo simply due to novelty and flavor).A friend of mine highly recommended this place to me and while I wasnt fortunate enough to come to the actual location during my trip, I did order it via DoorDash and had it delivered to my room.Whenever I order soup via food delivery options, I never really enjoy it because I love hot temperatures for my soup and its never the same. Luckily I was in a hotel room that actually had a microwave so when this bad boy was heated up it was absolute perfection. The edamame was perfectly seasoned and I love how it even came out with a little how-to sheet.Overall, I would definitely recommend trying out the tonkotsu ramen and I certainly plan on dining in on my next trip to NYC.

Comment: If you are hungry and you’re craving ramen (and you like it spicy) just do the following:Get the spicy tan tan ramen with the house made spicy sauce with extra noodles. The ramen comes basically with two of the main items (egg, pork, shoots, etc). Eat one of each item, enjoy the broth and noodles and then add the extra noodles to the broth with the house made spicy sauce. I swear it’s like you’re eating two bowls of ramen in one bowl.

Comment: Such a gem in the middle of busy neighborhood. I visited during one of weekday lunch times, when they serve special lunch combos. You can pick a small snack, such as a bun or a rice ball, on top of a main noodle entrees. I would recommend visiting weekday lunch time as well, so you can take a sneak peek at their dish outside of ramens. For my snack, I chose mushroom tempura bun, covered with loads of scallions. They were all big in portion, and fun to look at.For my entree, I went for their Classic Tokyo Tonkotsu ramen, which seems to be their staple choice. Firstly, my eyes were drawn into the unique look of its roasted chashu porks; They looked almost like thinly-sliced fine prosciutto, and they were extremely soft like lightly broiled meat. Unlike thick, overcooked chashu pork slices with a strong flavor at some other places, theirs worked together well with the main broth, just like how noodles did in ramen.Their thick Tonkotsu broth was so shiny that I could almost see the reflection of the room; It rally looked nice with the lighting. Maybe because I havent had the ramen for long time, this was one special experience with each ingredient doing its best job. I would definetely come back and try their Smoked Dashi Ramen next.

Comment: Found this place on the Michelin website as a 3 year Bob Gourmand! It is well deserved. We showed up 15 min before opening and there was already a line formed! We waited as it was our last afternoon in town.We started with the mushroom kimchi which was spectacular. Fresh, tangy, perfect. We then ordered the Chicken Tsukune Buns and since it was 3 of us the waitress was kind enough to let us add only one more bun rather than having to get two orders. These were simply one of the best things Ive ever eaten. The bun is so soft, the chicken was perfectly tender with the soy sauce a faint taste that comes together perfectly.I had the spice Tan Tan, my husband and sister each ordered the classic Tokyo ramen. Everyone loved their ramen, the noodles and egg were cooked to perfection. The broth just hit the spot with the November NYC chill.I hope to be back soon to try more off the menu.

Comment: Really unique flavors! We ordered three ramens, they were each very different from each other, and we loved each one. I will say the shishito peppers were $8 and I’d say there were maybe only 8 in the bowl which felt overpriced, but they were tasty.

Comment: We got in around 5 on a Saturday and there was an hour wait but there was room at the community table so we sat there. The service was great and we got our food pretty quickly. The Curry Wings were delicious and a great portion. The Spicy Tan Tan Broth wasn’t my favorite but the noodle texture was great. My partner got the regular Tonkatsu and the broth was absolute delicious so I’ll definitely be getting that next time I go!

Comment: Loved the tonkatsu ramen for many reasons. First, the broth was a super deep in flavor and I enjoyed that it wasn’t overly salty (I usually ask for low sodium option if available.). I also really enjoyed the meat which is thinly sliced like hot pot meat vs the thick round cuts. I liked that it was easy to eat in one mouthful and the thinness kept it super tender.

Comment: This spot is absolutely incredible. Tried their tonkotsu ramen. Their ramen is top notch with perfect broth, excellent noodles, and solid meats/egg in the dish too. Loved the flavors all together it’s seriously one of the best bowls of ramen I’ve had. I also tried the small bites platter with four dishes: mushrooms, shishito peppers, edamame, and cucumbers in a special sauce. Everything was excellent! The shaved matcha ice dessert was good too. Every bite was exceptional at this restaurant!

Comment: Great spot for ramen. The menu is small buy it seems like every item on it is well thought out and very delicious, and some even come with the tricks and gimmicks to match (the table next to is ordered pot stickers which came on a piping hot cast iron sizzler in which a touch of water was added and it arrived with steam billowing from it, very cool for IG LOL). We ordered some ramen, I got the smoked bonito one, and my bf got the dan dan noodles (Idr the names of the dishes anymore), and for the app we also got the chicken buns. The presentation of everything was very nice although if I was being picky, I would say I’ve seen better and prettier ramen plating, my ramen egg was face down in the broth :( it was still delicious though. We also ordered the mango shaved ice which looks impressive, and taste wise was nice, i wish the mangos were sweeter. I paid for extra mangos despite the waiter’s warning that it already comes with mango pieces, I thought having more would be nice but for the price, I regret it. $3 for like a 1-2 tablespoons of small diced mango pieces? Never again LOL. I wish I had paid the $3 for extra cream instead.Anyway, great place, would recommend. We went right around opening so there wasn’t a wait for us, but It got busy really quickly very soon after we sat down.

Comment: The curry cheese chicken wings are a must get!! While everything was good, the wings were definitely the most memorable item for me. The fried fish buns were a good appetizer as well but i’d pass on the gyoza and unagi rice ball next time. For noodles, we tried the smoked dashi ramen and the tsukemen. The smoked dashi broth was incredible with a very prominent smokey flavour and the perfect amount of umami taste. The tsukemen was just OK but maybe that’s because we had the smoked dashi first and that one simply blew us away. Overall, Tonchin has a great variety of dishes and i’d love to come back to try more items.

Comment: My friend and I went on a Saturday night around 6 and luckily we didn’t wait too long to get bar seats. The service was great. The food came out very quickly. Famous for the ramen, but the kitchen also did a great job in small appetizers and rice balls. The edamame was flavored by basil and yukari, refreshingly tasty. The shishito peppers were full of umami. The oyster mushroom was mixed with kimchi sauce and brought out more flavors with scallions and sesames. Curry cheese chicken wings were very unique and interesting. The curry powder and drizzled parmigiano cheese went well with each other. The tonkotsu pork broth was full of umami and the taste was leveled up by the smoked fish oil. Menma was thick and crunchy. We finished the meal with matcha shaved ice. It used ceremonial grade matcha to bring out the strong earthy taste, and in the same time, the bitterness was balanced very well with honey cream and red bean paste. All the food was tasty, but the music could be loud sometimes:)

Comment: Great Michelin star restaurant. Went here few times with friends, and had birthday party. Tried different ramen every time I visit. The soup is very thick and had deep taste. It is little salty when it gets cold. The noodle was also good, and chashu was very tender and soft. The side dishes goes well with the ramen. The mood of the interior is very modern and the servers are very nice. It is little hard ti get seated unless the reservation. Great place to eat!

Comment: Didn’t even know this place had a Michelin star and it’s well-deserved! Amazing ramen with many different options along with vegan choices. The noodles were cooked to a great texture, bit past Al dente. The toppings/veggies along with the spicy paste helped to elevate the ramen broth. The ume sesame rice roll was almost the highlight of the meal, try out one of the rice rolls for appetizer if you go! I do wish I would’ve tried a bun as I’ve heard good things about them.

Coupling music. But if the place is full enough you barely hear it because of the chatter but its not overbearing. For 2 people we spend about $60, not including tip. Comment: We went for a weekday dinner and it was clearly popular. We were seated at a communal table by the service counter that we shared with two other parties.Apps: Shoestring potatoes, Shishito peppers, and Ban Ban chicken from the Pick 3 Bites Sampler option. Shoestrings were delicious and crisp, peppers had sliced garlic that was perfectly fried, and the chicken was a chilled app, but so tender and flavorful.Buns: The chicken tsukune bun was the best (it does have pork though). The fried cod bun was good, more delicate flavors than the punchy chicken one.Wings: I didnt think Id like the curry cheese wings, but I ended up liking this more than the spicy wings. Get it, you wont regret it.Rice Ball: My brother ordered these and I wouldnt order either again. Not bad, but plenty of other things on the menuTsukumen: This was delicious. The Q of the noodles was on point. I would order again if I was only interested in an entree, but I think the small plates outshine everything else.Vibes: There are a handful of booths, a communal table and bar seating. It was full but I could still hear my friends and have a conversation easily. All in all, Id come again and highly recommend to friends.

Comment: I ordered their chicken wings and tsukemen (cold ramen that you dip into a hot, extra-savory broth). the chicken wings (per recommendation from my waiter) were extremely delicious and flavorful. as with many japanese eateries the choice of seasoning is unique and creates a new experience that your brain is delighted by. the chicken wings came out hot (though in my opinion slightly over cooked), but the seasoning won me over anyway— the flavor has a sweetness coupled with white pepper. the tsukemen was extremely delicious. the broth is near perfection and the noodles were the perfect texture. the egg had the perfect runny, lava yolk texture and the meat was overall decent and helped enhance the pork-forward flavors. all in all i’d highly recommend checking this place out.

Comment: Oh my love for Tonchin 🍜 they have so far been the ONLY restaurant in NYC that I have visited more than 2x. And I generally don’t return to the same place.Tonchin ramen is one of the best ramen you can have in NYC & CA (comparing to Bay Area and LA ramen). The traditional tonkotsu ramen is really one the best made ones I have had. We’ve brought SO many guests here (18 counting) and all of them have been amazed.Their noodle dishes are a hit, the rice balls 🍙 are great, non-alcoholic drinks (they don’t have during the winter) are bomb, desserts are good and the buns are yummy. The only thing that is a miss is their small appetizers (the samplers). I’ve tried all and they are not worth it.Tonchins service is always excellent and as long as you make your reservation in advance, you’ll get to experience one of the best ramen out there (apart from Japan). They are a Michelin star for a reason.HIGHLY recommend to anyone that wants good ramen.

Comment: This a Michelin star Japanese restaurant 3 years running. Reservations via Resy are highly recommended. The richness and authenticity of the the ramen here definitely helps Tonchin earn its rating. My friend and I ordered the bites sampler which included the crispy garlic salt shishito, zesty tonchin tonchin cucumber and the vegan oyster mushroom. The crispy fried garlic with the lightly grilled shishito was perfect. Great textures and extra crunch in every bite made it delicious. If you love cucumbers and mushrooms definitely order this sampler. My friend and I ordered the classic Tonkotsu and the miso ginger ramen. The Tonkotsu broth was perfect with the right amount of balance, flavor and salt. The roasted cha-shu pork was thinly sliced and perfect with each spoonful of broth. The vegetarian miso ginger broth packed a lot heat. Beware if you cant handle the spicy level youll be sweating the whole night. We really enjoyed our experience here. Flavors are on point and even with the Michelin star you wont be breaking the bank. Expect a 60-90 minute way on prime busy weekend evenings. I will definitely be back to try some of their cocktails and other ramen broths.

Comment: September/2021: Decided to eat here when we got caught up in heavy rain. Thankfully they had bar seating so went for it and all regular tables were unavailable. Started off with drinks which were really good. For food we only ordered their ramens, the classic tonkatsu and the spicy tan tan. I had the classic tonkatsu which I felt was good but a bit underwhelming given this is a Michelin rated restaurant. I tried the spicy tan tan ramen my partner ordered and I liked it better than the classic tonkatsu ramen. For desert, we had their popular shaved ice with mango which was a large size but pretty light and we could easily finish it by sharing . Will be back if in the area again.

Comment: For a Michelin star restaurant, I was expecting my mind to be blown. Did it do that? No... But it was still a good, hearty bowl of ramen. The broth was thick and a little on the salty side, but the unami came through with every slurp. The noodles were cooked al dente and the egg was still perfectly runny inside. However, the charshu slices were pretty thin and I wish they didnt skimp on that, considering its $18.The experience was not the most memorable, but it was one of the better ramen Ive had.

The ramen here is really good, i think their standard tonkotsu is their best however. This place definitely holds the crown for one of the best ramen spots in NYC in my opinion. For appetizers, the peppers is not bad as well as the shoe string fries. Comment: Clean and modern Japanese restaurant with delicious food. My gf and I got lucky with the wait time as we came right before busy dinner time. The staffs recommended a few popular dishes and we were very happy with the quality. We also loved its fresh lemonade, paired perfectly with the dishes as they were tad on the salty side.

Comment: This is my favorite ramen place in NYC. Perfect noodles and delicious broth. The edamame they serve is a revelation. The rice balls are fantastic. The drinks are outstanding, especially the Japanese old fashioned. The wait staff is great. 0 complaints about this place and I cant wait to keep coming back.

Comment: Amazing ramen!! This was a great experience. Restaurant is nicely decorated, great for dates as it is cozy. Service was very quick and friendly. I recommend the gyozas, they were great. We got the ramen to share as portions are very hearty and this was delicious, the broth was very flavorful and rich. Shaved ice desserts are large but tasty! Prices are average to high but well worth it

Comment: Yummy in your tummy! Best Ramen! This place surprised me in the best way. The staff was extremely nice. They gave me the best recommendations. On top of that, the ambiance is very relaxed and energetic at the same time. The mango shaved ice was delicious and even though its really big, it isnt as heavy as youd think. Food is good, drinks are good, and the place is cooI. What more could you ask for? I enjoyed everything I ate and I believe that this restaurant wouldnt let you down in anything you choose.

Comment: Just try it! Ramen not super heavy with fat and salt. Very palatable. Balanced seasoning with a lot of flavor. Love how you cannot “modify” the ramen. The ramen joints in Japan are like this as well. This way the patrons taste exactly what the chef wants you to taste. Will definitely be back!

Comment: The wait was long but very well worth it. The original ramen was my favorite. Tried plenty of dishes and appetizers to get the most out of our visit. We started with the spicy chicken wings-beware of the spice on those! LOL! Very spicy. Did the rice roll with the pork belly. OMGAHHHH, deelish. The sauce the pork belly is bathed in, perfection. We had the dumplings, and they did not disappoint. Ordered the spicy ramen, it was good, but the original ramen slayed the spicy one. It was delicious. One order definitely serves two. We did appetizers and one ramen per couple, more than enough food for all. The s device was quick once we were seated. The bathrooms are clean, the kitchen can be seen from where we were seated and it looked spotless. Happy our trip to NY took us to this restaurant.

Comment: The food was delicious! We ordered the chicken tsukune buns, the signature spicy chicken wings, and gyoza to share and also I had the classic tokyo tonkotsu ramen. The buns were my favorite out of the 3 appetizers and the ramen broth was tasty. There was a bit of a wait though so be prepared!

Comment: I love the aesthetics of this ramen bar, from the modern seating, dish ware and presentation of the food. I started with the Japanese old fashion since Ive been having this whiskey kick for a while and the cocktail didnt disappoint. For apps, my friend and I shared the fish (black cod) bun, DELICIOUS! The cod was fried to perfection and the buns were soft as ever. My only snafu was the price, a bit steep for fish buns that can be consumed with 2 bites. I still would recommend the fish buns because of the unique flavors. I ordered the spicy tan tan ramen and the broth was at the right amount of spicy and heat. The noodles were boiled to perfection and took in the flavors of the pork and broth amazingly. My friend had the classic tonkotsu, equally a standout. My friend ordered chili sauce and she was charged for $1.50. Ive noticed multiple restos doing this, so ask first. The ramen is top notch and the price point is comparable.

Comment: Ordered the tantanmen, chicken bun, and shaved ice to finish. The soup was very good. It had a nice nutty flavour and just the right amount of spice. It was a good bowl overall. The bun wasnt bad either.Everyone should end their meal with the kakigori because it was excellent. First time having the Japanese variant of shaved ice and I like it with the cream and red bean paste on top.

Comment: I had a great experience and enjoy my food. The ramen was delicious and the crafted beer went will with it. I have sat at the end of the place but this time I sat at the bar. The bartender was very nice, kind and friendly. I discovered this place a year ago when I was looking for vegan and healthy food. The food is filling and delicious. I recommend the place for its delicious food and service.

Comment: Number one rated ramen house on Yelp - well deserved. I have tried numerous ramen places and this a step above the rest based on broth and noodle flavor.Today we had the classic ramen, smoked dashi ramen and the summer special cold dipping ramen. Chicken and fried fish buns were excellent.Atmosphere is modern cool clean. Service is very good and friendly.Well stocked bar is a plus. Japanese old fashioned is worth a try. As someone who makes his own whiskey drinks, I prefer it stiffer and less sweet.Overall a restaurant to must try and frequent.

Comment: Read many good reviews so we were all excited to try this place. We arrived 20” before the place opened to avoid the line (if any). The restaurant has modern ambiance, I was impressed with their flower arrangements and attentive service. 2 of our ramens were salty but they were kind enough to re-do one for us, I did ask them to redo mine. The chicken wings is must-try, the special for lunch is also very good deal.

Comment: The classic ramen had a unique, comforting flavor which Ill be back for. The rice bowls are good. The wings was just ok - I expected more flavor but it was a little bland. The crab potato salad is made of crab stick, not real crab but it was still ok. Service was quick and the food came out quite quickly too.
