Comment: I enjoyed this place. The setting and vibe was great, quiet and calming. Very different from typical omakase and is a special experience. Service was very accommodating. The food was very interesting. You eat it left to right as instructed. You can basically DIY it. They give you rice and seaweed to make hand rolls. I broke the seaweed in half so I would have enough pieces. But some of the fish I would eat alone to enjoy the flavors. The seasonings did have unique qualities and went well with the recommended bites. The flavors of the fish got stronger as the meal progressed. The last row is very varied in textures and flavors. I enjoyed the first few rows the most as they were more light and delicate. The soup to drink first was very good as well.Overall I would come back for a special occasion. It is a very cute little place, if you and your friends are ever in the mood to treat yourself, this is a good spot for that.

Comment: Loved this experience, its one of the most peaceful dining experiences Ive ever had.Loved:-The ambience, the qualityKnow before you go:-90 minute time limit-prix fixe is $78 p/pThis spot in Brooklyn is so peaceful and transports you to a zen spa. The dining experience is super unique. When you walk in, check in with the host and then youre asked to remove your shoes and wash you hands. All the tables are long benches where you sit criss-crossed on cushions, theres an option to sit outdoors in their heated garden or indoors. The sushi set comes with rice, nori, soup, and 12 pieces of pre-assembled fish / shellfish. My favorite was the scallop which was so zesty.Theres also drinks to order. The dining experience was so unique and I really enjoyed it!Instagram @alice.likes.food

Comment: As a sashimi enthusiast, I was very excited to try this place. The ambience and the staff were perfect. If you like to discover different flavours and what goes well with what, I highly recommend this place. I also ordered the cucumber drink — super refreshing and sweet enough. Thank you for the lovely experience ❤️

Comment: A delicious omakase set at a reasonable price. Seafood is all very fresh with a unique way to season your own food and build your own rolls, sushi, sashimi with your choice of seasoning although they have published recommended seasoning choices for each fish. If you run out of seasoning, you can always ask for more. The set is already pretty filling but if youre still hungry/looking for a larger meal, the scallop salad with uni and the chirashi bowl are both amazing choices and you cant go wrong with either. Dessert is quite tasty as well and they added a candle to celebrate my birthday. Service was quick and friendly but they are strict with dining times so make sure you arrive a few minutes before your reservation as they do politely give you warnings and kick you out on the clock.

Comment: Ume in williamsburg was such a lovely dinner experience 🥹✨🎋 the seating in the garden was so intimate and I loved how pretty the outdoor seating was!🍽️Ordered:(4) omakase setsThis omakase was so unique because they serve deconstructed nigiri and allow you to make your own hand rolls with the ingredients. The seasonings all come on the side and each one is pairs with a different fish. The fish was sooo fresh and I loved every bite of this meal. My favs were definitely the king salmon, ebi + scallop, madai, and toro. This was such a fun and delicious dinner, I am so excited to go back during my next NY trip!!

Comment: The staff here was definitely very friendly. they made sure to accommodate for my allergy to the best of their ability. We sat inside for our lunch and the cushions were very nice and comfortable. They even had a nice soft blanket under the table. The food was unique and very detailed. There was this menu/ guide of some kind the explained what was what and how to get the full experience (recs of different combos) with the different unique salts and fresh wasabi we were given. The fish was very fresh. You might feel slightly full after the pre-fixed menu which is like 78 dollars. But I definitely recommend ordering a don to share or something to share after the prefix menu (the bill does adds up though) The yuzu matcha cucumber was sooo refreshing and there is enough to be shared with two people. To be honest it is expensive so it’s definitely more like once in a while thing.

Comment: Insanely tasty!!!! It definitely lives up to and surpasses the hype- I had been wanting to try this place for several months and finally went. The portion sizes of the fish are actually great- we left feeling super full which is somewhat atypical for sushi. I love the “choose your own adventure” vibe of the set meal with the flavored salts and spices they have, which definitely pack a punch despite arriving on a deceptively tiny plate. The staff were also super attentive and friendly. Would 10/10 go again.

Comment: Took a Manhattan friend to impress them with something more original than manhattan but equally as delicious and quality. It didn’t disappoint them. The garden was a beautiful respite from the city. I loved the atmosphere. At this level, I’d expect more inspired and informed service with regards to pairings and origin of the ingredients. I truly enjoyed the creativity and spontaneity they encourage with their delivery. They are pretty clear on the time set limits on their website and messaging but I feel like they could find a way to be less obtrusive and pushy or create a flow that allows people spending to linger vs kicking them out when they just delivered them a mini carafe of sake and a beer. Like. Seriously. Take give them a 10min Grace or cut them off.

Comment: Tldr; go on an evening when its not too hot, itll be an experience so just read and enjoy ~~- friend made reservations for me and my man, didnt know itd be an experience and we were there for it!- had to take your shoes off with no slippers provided. So be prepared idk wash your feet beforehand? I didnt know and we had walked all day, so Id be uncomfortable if this was for a professional or a first date. They have bathroom slippers that are communal...so idk- lots of reading, but definitely informative!- service was slow, we wanted more yuzu koshu about 3x refill, and took time and had to repeat ask- all tasted great and the recommended combos were worth it- they sat us weirdly because Im a small woman and they put the two muscular guys on one side. So they had to squish quite a lot, constantly changing positions to stay comfortable- dessert was great! The soup was amazing!- we loved the yuzu koshu, ghost pepper salt, and yuzu sake. We now have all of these 3 in our kitchen regularly!- vibes were good and warm, the boys felt a bit too hot, but it was bearable at night. Probably would suck for them during the day!- smelled good despite everyones feet out- Id recommend it if youre open to the experience, but its not an ordinary omakase

Comment: Super cute spot. The pre-set meal was more than enough food. I really loved the middle piece furthest to the left (scallops and ebi). Also loved the crab and uni (so buttery) but my all time fav was the smoked salmon with truffle shavings. I literally closed my eyes to fully savor the flavor!!! Honestly everything piece was delicious and the soup was great too. 10/10

Comment: I would define it as a great quality ingredients DYI omakase restaurant. We went there for a special celebration and the ambiance was very authentic, aka you seat on the floor. The food is delicious but I wanted to give some heads up if helpful:- if you can’t cross your legs for a long time (or at all) it can get tiring and uncomfortable- use your seaweed wraps wisely, they give you less wraps that actual sushi pieces- if you go in winter, wear warm clothes for inside or outside seating. The doors are usually open and they are glass- you might not feel very full by the end of it (my husband was a hungry), but you can also get a delish dessert

Comment: We got a table inside at 5pm and definitely a good call on a hot day. They have the outdoor area with AC but was a bit hotter in comparison to the indoor. The checkin process was fast, typical true Japanese restaurant where you leave your shoes in a compartment and walk bare foot inside (for sure bring back memories traveling in Japan). The seats are on the floor so we all made sure to wear stretchy pants. All the salts, foods, and presentation were so on point. We were comfortably filled but not too full after finishing the meal. A unique experience, perfect for date night and friends dinner alike. Highly recommended.

I think the set meal and experience are worth the price.Everything is prepared quickly and you have the option to book indoor vs outdoor dining. Highly recommend outdoors. Comment: Omakase - 4/5Not a bad price in NY for what you get - soup, 12 pieces of sushi, 6 pieces of nori, and 9 tasting salts. Unique combinations, beautiful presentation, but not the freshest fish in my opinion - may have just been the night I went. I’d try it again though as the atmosphere is very unique and the service was good on a busy night.

Comment: Lovely dining experience in a peaceful environment. We got the fixed price set, which came with 12 pieces, side of rice and nori, miso soup, and several seasoning options. When you walk in, they ask you to wash your hands and take off your shoes. You’re then greeted inside and pass by the open kitchen, where the chefs are preparing these plates. The seating area is airy and the ambiance is serene. I should note that you have to sit on the floor for your meal, which can get uncomfortable. The service was prompt and friendly. The food itself was high quality, creative, and thoughtfully assembled. I appreciated the space they gave us to be creative and experiment with different seasoning combinations.Good spot to try out a different dining experience in a quiet space.

Comment: Celebrated my birthday with my boyfriend last night at Ume and was SO impressed by every aspect of the experience. They start out everyone with their twelve-piece set which comes with a small bowl of seasoned rice (good enough to eat on its own), soup, twelve large bites with garnishes, 5 squares of nori, soy sauce, and seasonings. Plenty of a la carte options that you can add on that come after you finish the set. There’s also a nice selection of sake, a few beer options, and some mocktails (tea as well, but pretty expensive for one pot). The presentation was outstanding and we had a lot of fun experimenting with different combinations. The atmosphere of the restaurant was so peaceful, and service was attentive without being overbearing. The pieces themselves were really creative and included multiple that we’d never tried before. Easy 5 stars, we’ll definitely be back.

I loved the explanatory menu + sheet to go over the salts and pieces as it was so much to absorb. The matcha yuzu cucumber tea was extremely refreshing. Comment: I had a great experience dining here. The staff were very attentive and helpful. They used great quality ingredients, and the portions were bigger than my expectation. If youre into experimenting with food, this is a great place to do it! You can try different condiments and pair it with their seafood selections. Also, if youre not sure how to pair things up, they have recommendations on how to bring the best flavor of each food. However, if youre not into experimenting and adding things to your dish, their food is also good to be eaten as it is.We booked indoor dining, but their outdoor dining area looked aesthetically pleasing. The place was not crowded because we booked for 5 p.m. on a weekday, but its better to create a reservation to make sure you get a seat.

We got the uni ikura don and the lox and bagel was sooooooo good. It was our 7 year anniversary and they gave us a cute little gelato with a candle! Comment: Good spot for Omakase in NYC if you love to experience eating in a creative way. To me, this is a kind of arts in a dish. Impressive 🫶About the food, I personally like only the Unagi (the first bite) and Negitoro (the tenth bite). I think all of the fresh fish kinda taste similar and too bland. Im not a fish expert tho, just a love the fish. However, overall, its still worth to try once if you visit NYC.Also, the soup is Wow.PS: it was a bit hot if you book table in the outdoor garden zone.

Comment: A Cultural and Culinary Experience at UmeMy recent visit to Ume, a charming Japanese restaurant nestled in the heart of Williamsburg, was nothing short of a delightful culinary journey to the East. Right from the moment I stepped in, the carefully curated ambiance transported me to a world that was tranquil, warm, and authentically Japanese. The menu at Ume offers a set mixture of sushi, providing a broad palette of flavors in each serving, which I found absolutely satisfying. Each sushi was a masterpiece in itself - the artistry of their sushi chef was reflected in the perfect balance of fresh, quality ingredients, meticulous presentation, and above all, delectable taste that keeps your palate engaged. What made the dining experience truly immersive was the traditional Japanese seating arrangement. Sitting down in true Japanese style, I couldnt help but appreciate the cultural richness and unique dining experience Ume has painstakingly curated for its patrons. Its not every day you find an eating place that delivers not just fantastic food but also a slice of cultural immersion. The service at Ume was commendable, mirroring the promptness and courtesy that Japanese culture is known for. Every member of the staff was attentive, yet unobtrusive - ensuring a seamless dining experience. The ambiance was superb, with the restaurants environment striking a fine balance between elegance and comfort. In conclusion, Ume is more than just a restaurant - its a destination that offers an authentic and immersive journey into the heart of Japanese cuisine and culture. If youre in Williamsburg and have a hankering for an excellent sushi experience with a side of cultural enrichment, Ume should be high on your list.

Comment: Love the simplicity and creative space of making sushi your own. Love the vibe and the idea that we sit on the floor like in Japan. Its a fixed-price menu, so everyone gets 12 different kinds of fish with 5 nori square sheets, miso soup, different types of seasonings (there were 9), and rice. We ordered the white peace juice, and that was refreshing. The bathroom is amazing. I love how clean it is and furthermore aesthetically pleasing. The staff was kind, but they speak so softly I couldnt hear anything they said. In my opinion, the price was overpriced. Food was mid. Its cute and pretty, but its mid.

Comment: The experience was pretty good, but not great. Most of the reviews summarize the pros—good flavor, sashimi that melts in the mouth, interesting seasoning pairings with the sashimi, and the service was pretty good. I highly recommend the mochi and cream, the mochi was soft and the homemade ice cream exceeded my expectations. As for the cons, the sushi set is barely enough for one person, maybe enough for a child. They definitely serve a small amount for the prefix set on purpose so add on orders should be expected. The miso soup taste like instant soup base. And even ordering additional seaweed costs extra. The waiters were also attentive but a bit disorganized. Also, the max 5 min late or reservation is cancelled policy and the maximum 90 min per reservation policy is kind of unreasonable for dinners.

Comment: UME was a wonderful experience, a short visit to NY permitted us a passing by some incredible places, I definitely enjoyed my visit to this little Japanese gem.Im not a raw food lover, however everything was delightful and the service superb, the food was tasty and flavored, different types of fish and sea food. Our server was Silvia, she is so kind and cute, she was always attending us and talking nicely, also our chef 👨🍳 was amazing. We got have the sushi set, it consisted of a variety of sushi, a bowl of soup, Nori sheets, rice, soya sauce, seasoning and more!.They recommended to try all salts, gave us a romantic sheet of paper with instructions 😋 people dont have to follow the instructions cause there isnt a way to eat all.If you visit UME, you have the obligation to get the sushi set (No sure if each person need to get 1 or you can share) then get more food if you want, every set is $78 which is not bad.The lady who open the door was dry, she offers the set without show us what includes, the menu or advertise about prices 😒 after that, Silvia rescued us😊 and offers a table with menu! I couldnt enjoy anything more than just the set, I was Full 🤕🤒To drink we tried a delicate fruit tea and beer, both delicious. The place is clean, quite, peaceful and soft, with Asian accent and 1 restroom to share, however a little bit expensive, the tea pot was $18 and I think my beer was around that price too!The location address is confusing and not easy to find if youre not local (we are not), they dont have dress code but remember to dress beautifully. and shine ✨️ 💖You must wash your hands and get your shoes off before you get a table. Finally you can have water for free 🍶Definitely, Ill be back and enjoy more! Hope Silvia help me to select new plates. 😊😘

Comment: Artistically driven Japanese restaurant with deconstructed sushi plates that allow for a unique experience in dining. Has first-rate complementary pieces (miso soup, Japanese peach wine or sparkling sake) that almost stand out more than the rolls themselves. $80 a person. 4.5/5 stars as a lunch spot.

Comment: Great experience with great ambiance for omakase sushi. Feels like you are in Tokyo with the interior design. When you first walk in you must remove shoes, wash hands in traditional Japanese style, and sit on a cushion seat with legs crossed. Prefix menu serving seasonal fish with assortment of salts and toppings. You can get creative with mixing and matching.

Comment: 🍽️Food: 5/5🤵🏽♂️Service: 5/5🪑Ambiance: 3/5📝Notes: I had an amazing and unique experience! I love when the staff explain everything and direct you through the whole experience 🥰 The food was amazing and I loved everything I had. The only thing that bummed me out was the seating as I didn’t feel comfortable sitting on the floor. Some Japanese restaurants I’ve been to, the floor seating would have a lower platform to allow there to be leg room and you feel like you are sitting on a floor chair. But here you just have to get used to siting on the floor (which I struggled to 😅)

Comment: Such a unique and exciting experience, mind-blowingly delicious flavor combinations. I didn’t end up using the salts/sauces on the fish that often since they was so much going on with the pieces already, but I enjoyed trying all of them (and eating them on rice at the end of the meal!)

Comment: TLDR; a different way to do sushi / omakase. 8/10.Upon arriving, we were instructed to take our shoes off, wash our hands, then were taken to our table. The inside of the restaurant felt separated from the hustle of the city, which was a nice escape. The food comes all at once on one tray, along with rice on the side, a miso soup, and some spices / salts (including truffle salt, charcoal salt, which were two of my favorites). You’ll find most of the explanations and instructions on their menu, which was helpful for me as I’m a visual person. You’re encouraged to explore and play with your food, a refreshing change from typical omakase places.Overall, the food was excellent (even down to the side of rice), although we were still hungry after finishing the set. The extra rolls we ordered were delicious - well worth the money. Just be prepared to spend on more than just the sushi set if you’re hungry.

Comment: Food was 3.5/5, since the fish was a little bland, and the uni especially was not very fresh causing it to taste a little rancid. I thought it was just my single piece since that can happen sometimes but it was also the same in the literally everything don that we ordered outside of the pre fix.The ambience and experience was what elevated this place though.

We were wrapping up drinks, could of used another 10 minutes but they were eager to leave. Understandable but for the amount of money we spent and it being a Saturday night, felt like poor restaurant etiquette.

Comment: This was really a very special experience. The food was great, the environment and atmosphere were also amazing. We did the sushi tray as well as ordered add ons and dessert. I truly only have one gripe. At the end of the meal (which totaled $530) the server sat at the table while we paid our check. She asked us if we wanted a run down, and then sat there while I got out my wallet. I paid cash, with 20% gratuity and then she said “I’m assuming no change?” I felt as though this entire transaction was not inline with fine dining and was incredibly awkward and uncomfortable. For a meal as expensive as this one I’d expect some privacy and grace when paying the check. Just weird.

The staff goes over the prefixed menu with you, and once that arrives they thoughtfully share how to pair things. The fish is incredibly fresh and delicious. Comment: Some of the absolute best sushi in the city and certainly in Brooklyn. A unique take on serving, plating, and combinations of flavors including 9 unique salts / add-ons. The ghost pepper salt is very spicy, take note. The standard tray of delights includes soup and rice and some nori along with the salts and the 12 core seafood pieces. You’re invited to mix and match however you like to some degree although they suggest pairings. You can also get a wide variety of drinks and additional pieces of fish and bowls, but these can get quite expensive quite quickly. The fish are fresh and sustainable but uni is always a tricky one. Some of them were a little on the marine side, while others were delightfully savory. It’s a mixed pot whenever you gamble on uni. Not a knock on Ume though.Having any offering with actual gold leaf will make you feel extra fancy, although it’s never required. Caviar, truffle, it’s all on the menu in tiny portions added perfectly to accompany fish. And everything comes out within 5 mins of you sitting down, due to just how few total seats there are. Really don’t be late and leave your shoes in their charming front entry vestibule. The sinks for pre dinner hand washing are a treat. Wish all restaurants had this. For sushi lovers this is a 5/5. Enjoy!

Comment: I don’t even know where to start with this review because there are way too many things to touch on. I guess my initial thought going into this is just one word: experience.Ume is an experience. From the second you go inside you are greeted not only by the welcoming and friendly staff but an ambiance of calm and relaxed vibes as you make your way to your table. There are comfy cushions to sit on while you take in the environment that surrounds you. As you look around you’ll see thoughtfully executed touches that add layers to the experience (trees/ japanese style architecture/ warm calming lights / etc). The food is presented unmatched. It comes on a stone plate with all the pieces laid out beautifully and you will be provided your own selection of small toppings to choose from to compliment each piece of fish that is provided to you. There are even guides of best pairings to choose from as a way to enhance your experience as well.Side note — as someone who HATES choosing what to get on the menu a lot of the time due to choice paralysis… i love that i am given a set course without having to panic and then giving the option of additional food if I so need it.As for that food i just mentioned- one word: incredible. and yes maybe i did end up ordering more even after i finished my set not because i was hungry, but because the food was just too good to pass up.I will absolutely be back and recommend anyone who is looking to eat sushi in a fun and warm environment to come check this place out. Ume creates the perfect dining experience with friends or a date. Thank you for everything!Lastly - i’ll leave you with this one tip - get dessert (you wont regret it.)

Comment: Went there for lunch today by booking the reservation at 1 pm. Staff were nice and friendly. The atmosphere weren’t great because we sat in the garden and the weather was so hot (we should have sat in the restaurant 😅). Anyway, we ordered the $78 set per person and one bottle of drink. To be honest, I have very high expectation for this place because of the rating and the price. However, some of the food didn’t seem to be fresh, like when I ate the uni I smelled some odor through my nose and the texture felt weird (I’m a big fan of uni, so I can tell how fresh they are). Fish and shrimp were great, fresh, and sweet. I gave 4 stars due to the food didn’t meet my expectation, but it’s worth to try once in a while.

Comment: Food 10/10The fish was incredibly fresh and each piece of the course complemented the meal very well. Super great pairings and ingredients in each piece, very colorful spread and loved the interactive and “do it yourself” element of the omakase experience. The different seasonings, especially the TRUFFLE SALT, truly elevated the entire meal. We also got the barley tea, which was really yummy too. We were seated in the back, where there’s a clear ceiling. The lighting was gorgeous so the pictures also turned out great. The set itself is already very filling, but I wished I had the chance to try their other items too.Service 10/10I received a very comprehensive and friendly text message the day before reminding me about the reservation. Once we arrived (late), they led us to a room where we took off our shoes and washed our hands. We had a place to store our jackets as well. The waiter was really attentive and answered our questions about the entire process.Atmosphere 10/10Loved how zen and calming the entire restaurant was, such a peaceful and warm experience. Loved the wooden paneling and warm glowing lights. My only qualm is that sitting cross-legged was quite uncomfortable and my ankles were hurting after a bit so I had to keep on readjusting my position.

Comment: Interesting experience, omakase on the floor. All sushi and sashimi were laid out at once along with the accoutrements and the suggestions/instructions were hastily narrated. Certain salts and toppings only worked with certain pieces of fish though we were encouraged to get creative. Had to ask the waitstaff to repeat names and descriptions of items several times. There were a few inedible items on the platter. Not the best value, but a great place to take someone on a date. The setting was very intimate. We ended up here because we needed last minute reservations and they were able to accommodate us.

Comment: A truly unique sushi tasting experience! It’s curated so meticulously and each bite is crafted with different flavors. The sushi tasting set comes with different seasonings (it’s so cute, almost like a seasoning tasting too). Ume presents you with their creations but also gives you the flexibility to make it your own. You can take their recommendations of which seasonings to pair with which fish or you can wing it yourself (I def took the recs haha). They also provide nori if you want to make handrolls with some of the fish and rice!I also got an extra everything don which I would recommend (pricey and small but it’s so tasty). With our food we got the Konacha hot tea as well which was delicious. We made a reservation for 6:30pm on a Sunday, ended up arriving 30 mins early but we got seated right away. When you come in, you wash your hands and take off your shoes. It’s traditional Japanese seating on the floor (so no chairs).Come Again? Yes! I’d definitely think of Ume for those special occasions, I’m not sure how often the menu changes but with different people who haven’t tried it I’d be down to come again.

The atmosphere is very peaceful and calm and the food comes out very quick. All the fish tastes extremely fresh and the soup is great too. The experience of making your own rolls is fun too! The only thing is that any refills of soup or rice costs extra and I felt a little bit still hungry after eating here (as opposed to most omakase). Definitely a great experience to do at least once!

A total of 12 pieces of sashimi ranging from salmon, scallop, eel, tuna, toro, sea beam, uni, etc. and 9 different types of spices from all over the world (I did not know there were so many types of salt!). You can pair with the sashimi with the spices, soy sauce, rice and seaweed as you wish. The experience leading to sitting down was phenomenal too. As soon as you enter, you remove your shoes, wash your hands and are welcomed with a peaceful and zen ambiance. The waiter was so friendly and explained the whole process in detail and what each component of the omakase consisted of.This was an amazing experience and I would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a worthwhile omakase in NYC!

Comment: At UME, you really come for the sushi and come back for the incredible experience. Every detail of ume is perfect- the food quality, the interior design, and especially the service. They go above and beyond! Head chef Danny is incredible and so friendly- clearly very passionate about his business! I cant get over the beauty in the plating and the quality of the food. The best part about getting omakase sets is that you try stuff you may never would have ordered yourself. Every ingredient is chosen with intent and purpose. The reservation system is sooo efficient and I just love the set up of coming in, washing your hands, taking off your shoes … truly an experience!!! Better than so many overrrated overpriced restaurants in the city. The entrance is almost deceiving- a simple door leads to a beautiful restaurant! Come here for a friends reunion, first date, 10th anniversary, a new job- literally any excuse to visit UME again!!!

Comment: Cute little spot by the water, store was almost impossible to find, almost like a hidden hideout. All the way in the back is a beautiful backyard seating space. All the tables are floor tables where you sit on big comfy cushions. We came during the day so the lighting was perfect. The food was art on a plate. Each piece was so unique and gorgeous! They all came with the cutest seasonings and spices! The soy sauce even came with a brush. True definition of a one in a lifetime experience. Staff was phenomenal! I noted on resy that we were celebrating our engagement and our waitress even remembered to congratulate us, how sweet :) all in all, wonderful experience!

Comment: Came here last week for lunch with my girlfriends (4 of us). We had a table in the backyard patio. It was soooooo pretty. We all got the prefix sets and it was picture perfect. It legit looks like an artist crafted this for us. We got the yuzu sake which was sososo good! Perfect for the weather. Service was friendly and extremely understanding. They still seated us even though we were late! Either ways, we still had enough time to add their dessert. The gelato was the perfect finish for the meal! Cant wait to come back!

You sit on the floor and it’s definitely more intimate than for big parties which was perfect because we were celebrating 5 years of marriage! Food was very beautiful and tasty. Service was also very on point. They even brought out gelato with a candle on it! Big thumbs up Ume

Comment: Great experience at Ume, the place was nice and chill we have to take off our shoe and wash hands before entering !Twelve pieces of sashimi on the side, it also goes with soup, nori and rice !Their nine different seasoning are definitely the best you could choose which ever salt you want with your fish ! Also you could create your own hand roll .The fish is really fresh and the sauce they pair with was just soooo amazing! It’s just so creative.I’ve also ordered their add ons, I’ll recommend the Uni toro wagyu and the everything roll !Their sake bottle was just so cute my favorite sake will be the sparkling princess “that’s a sweet sake “!Services was really good and they are so friendly and kind ! They will come over to ask us if we needed any extra seasoning or rice soup and stuff when we are half way done ! I can’t say the service was the best but I’ll say it’s definitely the most satisfied one !

Comment: Came here with my girlfriend last night, such a unique dining experience. The food was so fresh and I love all the different salts that come with it. (My favorite was the licorice salt and kizame wasabi.) We ended up ordering a few add ins at the end (literally everything don and the uni toro wagyu handroll) so good! The service was attentive and very friendly. Overall, a great experience and will definitely be back.

We got the prix fixe which comes with a soup and 12 piece deconstructed omakase. The presentation was beautiful, we enjoyed the whole DIY experience. Every piece was unique and delicious. The service here was also phenomenal, love our waitress. She was super sweet and very personable, made our dining experience an unforgettable one.

Comment: Overall very good experience. Not your typical japanese restaurant youll find anywhere. Youll need to take off your shoes and sit japanese style. The pri fix is something you should try as it takes you on a journey of flavors. The way they let you eat your sushi the way you like it is a lot of fun. You get to decide on eating it as is, or putting it in a seaweed roll with rice, flavor it with 9 kinds of different salt. Its entirely up to you!

Comment: This is a fun dining experience - deconstructed omakase. The DIY factor definitely makes it cheaper than traditional omakase, and the way you get to build your own piece is fun, plus you can make it how you like.In fairness though, given the option, Id pay an extra $30 or $40 to have someone make it for me - which definitely defeats the purpose. I just mean to say, its fun once, but I prefer when an expert does it fot me

Comment: If you are looking for unique dining experience in Brooklyn, this is a place you should try! The sushi set was packed with unique and flavorful offerings. It was so fun making our own rolls while thinking which special seasoning we’d like use for each piece of sashimi. Additionally, Ume has a delicious summer peach drink that’s oh so refreshing and not overly sweet. I highly recommend sitting outside to feel as if you’ve been transported to Japan for the duration of your meal. The staff was great and overall everything was well worth the price. Looking forward to going back in the future.

Comment: If you are looking for unique “Sushi” experience, this is the place you should try. All of them were really flavorful and it was fun making your own rolls while thinking which seasoning I would like to use for which sashimi. We were there to celebrate our anniversary and they gave us vanilla gelato with honey & konako. It was sooooo good!! The perfect combination.Another thing I liked about this place is that they have 2 sinks at the entrance. Since you need to use your hands to eat hand rolls, I appreciated they prepared sinks right after we took off our shoes.Downside: Outdoor seating was okay, but not intimate enough for date night. Fortunately, they set up a fun for each table, but it could get really hot since it is closed environment.

Comment: Ume is probably the cutest and definitely one of the most unique restaurants I’ve been to in the city. The enclosed outdoor space is where to be, the roof and heater make it feel like you are inside but you get the added benefit of the plants and natural light. The sushi was good but not great. I thought the ikura and otoro were very good but some pieces tasted a bit bland. Like the space their seasonings and toppings were very unique and interactive.Everyone was very friendly and helpful and service for the prix fixe was incredibly fast, we had our sushi 10 minutes after being seated before we even ordered drinks. I believe they prepare it right before you arrive, hence why they ask for you to arrive with 5 min of your reservation start time.Overall, Ume was really enjoyable and memorable. I felt like I got more than just food. The atmosphere was relaxing and serene, and the interactive dining concept really lent to a sense of exploration. It’s hard to capture in words the experience Ume provides, but I would definitely recommend people try it out at least once.

Comment: My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate our anniversary. The experience was fun and we both got the sushi set. For $75 you get 12 sushi pieces with unique seasonings. It also comes with rice, seaweed and a miso soup to start with. For the amount of food the price point was a bit on the expensive side which is why I gave it 4 stars. It is a one of a kind experience that I would recommend checking out!

Comment: We got the sushi set ($74) which came with 12 different fishes... the fish was amazing quality and flavors were incredible with the salts/sauces they provide. My only complaint is that i felt like we should have been given enough nori for all the pieces of fish rather than having to ration it. I also felt like the waitstaff wasnt particularly attentive, not sure if this a result of COVID and not wanting to come to the table as often. Overall, it was a great experience and the setting was beautiful... pretty warm and cozy!

Comment: Excellent blend of japanese curation with american individualism. Presenting a fixed menu where you eat your way through sauces, salts, and delicious seafood. While Ive had some similar menus in the past the mix of salts, and sauces gave the whole experience an individualist spin. I would recommend the price fixed menu, but didnt find the wagyu/uni hand roll particularly special.

Comment: I love the interior deign of the restaurant. Theres a transition room right when you stepped through the door. Then another rooms to wash hands and store shoes (no outdoor shoes inside restaurant).Like many others mentioned, the service was absolutely excellent as we were seated promptly and the waitress was very attentive. That alone deserves a 5 star.In terms of food, well.. the presentation was great and the miso soup was surprisingly tasty with full of umami. However, the sashimi were somewhat hit or miss. Some pieces were extremely well prepared and fresh. Such as the scallop, house marinated sea bass, and hand picked crabmeat. Fatty tuna was quite fishy and my friend even found a piece of bone in one of his pieces. I love truffle but it was a thick slice and completely overpowering the uni and crab. On note of uni, I had a gooey not so good looking piece...I also ordered a custom dish, uni and scallop don. The Maine uni was not so great.. it had a light metallic aftertaste. Considering the ~$60 price mark, not so worth it... food experience was more on a 3/5 rating IMO.Overall, I still love the experience but might be bit hesitant about coming back again.

Comment: Top notch service. We were seated promptly, and all of our food came out within minutes. The restaurant is very aesthetically pleasing, and I could tell the sashimi was of a very high quality. The staff provides a menu with basic instructions on how to get the most out of each dish but otherwise leave you to your own devices on how to eat. I would have appreciated more palette cleansers, since every dish is so unique and subtly flavored. It sometimes felt like the flavors blended together otherwise. The prix fixe menu is quite good and has much more hits than misses, though it came down to personal preference how much we enjoyed it and felt it was worth the price. Speaking of which, prices are a little high, especially for the average millennial/college student, which this seems to be geared toward. However, when you are buying a quality item and service, its to be expected that the costs would match. Overall, its a nice experience and atmosphere that I have no qualms recommending.

Comment: This place is a hidden gem! From the entrance we waited as we rang the bell in a lobby with calming potted plants in a wood-wall setting. When we entered we were transported to a secret room where we hung our coats, put away our shoes and washed our hands before being seated. The wood theme continued into a high-ceiling room with the Omakase bar on the left and a few tables near the back. It was our first time so we did the table seating - on the floor on comfy pillow seats in traditional Japanese fashion. The bar does the Omakase menu and the tables offer the sushi set which is an adventure for your palate. You’re served sushi in rows on a board all unique combinations of flavor and textures. And you also get a smaller board with different salts to season your sushi - matcha salt from Japan, truffle salt from Italy, cherrywood smoked salt from San Fran to name a few. It’s such a mouth experience for your taste buds to try the salts with the different sushi. We were lucky and got a last minute reservation for a 9pm dinner on a Thurs night (their last seating is 915pm). Highly recommend this place and can’t wait to go back and try the Omakase menu next.

Comment: You ring a small bell, a hostess gently opens a wood door. You get in, take off your shoes, put on slippers, and wash your hands. Timidly sliding your slippers on the floor, you enter a small but airy, packed but peaceful restaurant. First, a bar, with high stools and sushi masters slicing diligently. In the back, some low tables with guests sitting on the floor and serving one another sake. In the background of this picturesque view, a bright zen garden. Food is precise, serious, but doesnt take itself seriously. The bunch of stuff is a nutty oyster topped with uni, toro, sturgeon caviar, and a gold leaf. Succulent, impeccable, fun. Their 12-piece menu is a flavorful journey - the friendly staff gives you some hints but you mainly make your own adventure, mixing fish and sauces, picking here and there bits of joy and surprise. The hardest part is to stop ordering food.

Comment: Great experience! Text ahead to reserve your seat. You take your shoes off at the door and sit at tables on the floor. Really comfy and nice environment. Servers are very attentive and friendly.Everyone has to order their $55 prix fixe menu, which comes with 11 pieces of fish (and a bunch of great seasonings to go with them, some very tasty rice and soy sauce, 5 sheets of seaweed, and mushroom miso soup). It was simultaneously cheaper and better than any other omakase Ive done in NYC so far, and the DIY aspect of making your own hand rolls with the seaweed, rice, and seasoning, was really fun.At the end of the meal, you can order a la carte items if youre still hungry. We got the Gods Plan, which is an off-menu bowl of uni, toro, sturgeon caviar, and crab meat, on a bed of rice.Every cut of fish tasted really fresh and the recommended seasoning pairings worked well. Id be happy to come back to this place again.

Comment: This is a very unassuming restaurant. The exterior is very plain but once inside, the decor is minimalistic and relaxing. As for the food, the menu is limited. Everyone has to get the DIY sushi omakase ($55). It comes with 12 different pieces of fish with a side of rice, seaweed, soup and the most adorable plate of seasonings. The amount of seasonings they gave were sparse but each one packed a punch. The fish pieces were very fresh and well seasoned. If you’re still hungry afterwards, there are choices of hand rolls to choose from. I ordered the king salmon roll, which really hits the spot. This place left me not full but content. Comment: Ume is a cool sushi-set concept restaurant that is known for its set course ($78) that comes with 12 different cuts of seafood that you wrap in your own temaki (handrolls). The restaurant has a minimalist zen aesthetic with low tables (you sit on cushions with shoes off) and a garden section in the back. The set wasnt enough food for us, so we ended up getting the chirashi don from the a la carte menu - a bit pricey but well made. The staff was very accommodating and also give a little complimentary birthday dessert. All in all, the meal was ~$230 after tip including a bottle of sake with dinner.
