Comment: Wakamatsu on Grand Avenue Maspeth New York. I have gone to this location several times, the Sushi was fresh tasted good . There 3 roll deal is great for inside dining and take out. I enjoy eel and avocado rolls or Handrolls. They make them well. I will be returning to try the various types of sushi. The location is very clean the staff very friendly. They on takeout tell me how long my order should take. They have been very accurate, they still are excellent time from order to take out usually 10 to 15 mins.

Comment: Wakamatsu is a place that reminds me of my mother who loves sushi. Through all the years of my life and hers in Queens, Wakamatsu was the place she always went to for tasty sushi.The inside is cozy and the screens that separate the tables provides a nice amount of privacy. Our table was always the nearest one to the window.I explored much of her taste in sushi, only to develop my own, more pickier than hers. As of now, I usually order the tempura shrimp roll. Ill also get a miso soup and my favorite drink, a peach tea snapple. Sometimes I try to be adventurous, however I think Ill always be defined by my picky tastes in life.We know there seemed to be a change in management around 4 years ago or so. The woman we were used to seeing behind the table no longer was there as she was previously. However were glad the wonderful food never changed once. We hope shes doing well.

Comment: This review is for the delivery service, 5 stars because the food quality is good, portions are ok. Food looks and taste fresh, the timing was also good, it was fast. Only one thing i noticed is their menu online is not helpful, no details. For example I bought the fried fish it doesn’t says what is served with, I was about not to order it, because it was a little expensive for only fish I took the risk to order it, hoping they send a least rice, and yes! It came with rice and salad, I hope they do something about it.

Comment: We got the three sushi roll combo special and the chicken katsu dinner bento and the amount of food for the bento was amazing. I had enough food to last two meals. Since this was recent, there werent any additional pickup orders aside from ours and one other persons so my wait time was much faster than what they had told me. I think I accidentally arrived 5-8 mins earlier and it was already done. Friendly reminder, like every other restaurant right now during covid, they have a sign that says that if you dont wear a mask you cant enter.

Comment: Great food at good prices! This location is in Maspeth, the other in Kew Gardens (on Metropolitan Ave between Park Lane South and Lefferts Blvd). One of the waitresses seemed a little annoyed/impatient to be serving us, but the manager was very friendly and helpful! There are daily specials.

Comment: I love this little Japanese restaurant in the middle of Grand Avenue. They have the traditional Japanese fair and the food is delicious. The atmosphere is typical Japanese with wooden tables and chairs. There is a sushi bar and the prices are actually reasonable. My ex-husband and I went on our very first date there back in 2014 and I still go there for dinner from time to time

Comment: Wakamatsu is a great place to go out and eat, but they are our absolute go-to delivery food. This is sushi as comfort food. Alaska rolls always so soft and fresh. Spicy crunchy tuna with just the right level of spice. Bento lunch boxes lovingly overflowing with fried chikuwa. Functional, tasty simplicity. Lightning fast delivery from that guy on the moped is also a plus. Food always arrives at half the estimated time or sooner. If this place disappeared we might starve. Or need to learn how to cook something.

We always order enough to get a free roll which is a nice touch.Ive dinned in many times and they have very attentive service. Comment: From the photos online and the general quality of sushi in the East Bay, I cant say my hopes were all too high for Wakamatsu. But I just finished my meal and I am very happy. I placed a takeout order while at school and by the time I got there my meal was ready (~10 minutes).I got a large Chirashi for $17 and it was extremely interesting. Ive eaten a lot of sushi. Like a LOT. And usually its pretty easy to at least kind of figure out how good the fish quality is by texture and taste. Heres the thing with Wakamatsu, the texture could use some work. Tamago was soggy. The rice they use has semi-tough kernels in it (like old rice but not as bad) surrounded by rice that was too wet. (it seemed like it wasnt cooled down properly). The top layer of the sashimi is too soft (usually a sign of not great fish) and generally limp.Despite the iffy textures, everything about the flavors was good to great. Rice was very well seasoned (if you prefer a stronger vinegar flavor, Wakamatsu has you covered) and despite being overcooked it wasnt too dense and had a nice stickiness to it. The chirashi came with a typical selection and even included some less typical choices like halibut and kanpachi. The fish slices are a bit large but thin (which is a good thing, Im sick of the giant-chunk-of fish bang for your buck trend). Usually bad sashimi is soft and flavorless or overly fishy. The fish here retained flavor without the fishy taste.In the end, the textures werent the worse and the fish quality was much better than I anticipated. To top it all off the mom/pop of the store were super nice. The sushi chef was adorable and greeted me with the cutest smile and wave. Overall, I really like this place and I will definitely be back.
