Comment: Went here for a friends birthday and the meat quality was very high. I would recommend getting the Kobe star tier as those cuts really melt in your mouth. The Takoyaki, Karaage and fried tofu apps were tasty. It was extremely busy and we did have to wait for quite a while for our appetizers, but the waiters were apologetic and the 2 hour time limit was never brought up. At the end of the day we all left extremely full.

Comment: First of all, service is great! Staffs are very friendly and it is not crowded. However,I do think they can improve on their meat quality… meat feels like defrosted as they are still stiff when severed. Very chewy and the stove is not the best, meat gets burned easily. The ice cream is pretty good, very balanced milky and matcha taste.

Comment: The meats are so good. Compared to the other barbecues, the food here is very good at this price. I very much recommend their Kobe beef set and hamburger meat. Would love to come a couple more times. The seats are not so much, which makes a limited number of people at once, and makes the experience better

Comment: We went last Saturday with a party of 5. We took a chance since we didnt make a reservation. At first, the host was like, Youll have to wait an hour and half. Of course we were like, okay, we will come back another time. Luckily, there was a table that was finishing early, and we only waited 15 .inutes before being seated. We did the basic all you can eat. There are so many options to choose from and totally worth it. Our standouts were the sirloin, rib eye, pork belly, and garlic shrimp. Their pork gyozas were also amazing. Their black sesame seed ice cream and green tea ice cream are also really good too.

Comment: Been here a few times before, really liked it, comparing to those chained yakiniku restaurants. This is the first time visit, post covid, still enjoyed it.Price & Food - To my surprise, they launched AYCE menu, which I’ve never expected in a Japanese restaurant. Pretty good deal, with $38/$48/$58 level, all comes with appetizers, sides and desserts. We went with the $58 one with US Kobe. Quality of the meat are not great but definitely beyond average. Well seasoned and fresh. Worth the price! And a great selections of food.Service - slow but very typical hospitable Japanese style service.Vibe - honestly I prefer the traditional Japanese style but the place was clean and neat.Parking - easy street parking.Would definitely return.

Comment: The atmosphere is very nice in this location, plenty of space for seating and the prices are good for the amount you get. The meats were very fresh and it was juicy. I got the she so hungry meal for 2. The soy sauce was really good to dip with. ( was too hungry and didnt have a chance to take a picture of the meats :( the takoyaki was also very fresh and crispy yet soft.

Comment: Good Japanese sushi and tempura40.72965 -73.98854 Yakiniku West is a Japanese yakiniku (grilled meat) restaurant where customers prepare bite-size meat and vegetable dishes on gridirons over a gas/electric grill in each table. The origin of today’s yakiniku is considered Korean barbecue, one of the most popular dishes in Korean cuisine. Beside yakiniku, the restaurant offers sushi, sashimi, salads, udon soup and Korean bibim-bap.In June 2023, we were offered a table next to the restroom door. It took us a while to move to another table without the restroom smells. When ordering, we stayed on the Japanese side by opting for miso soup ($3.50) as a starter and shrimp tempura rolls ($12) & salmon toro sushi ($9.95) with rice ($3.50). Instead of a bottle of soy sauce on the table, the soya sauce was presented in a small bowl. We needed a refill. The sushi and tempura had good flavour and texture. It was true to its Japanese roots without too much American influences. The Asahi beer ($6) tasted very good. Recommended.

Comment: Food was so well executed! Very authentic Japanese flavor and umami. Even the salad was really tasty. It was lightly dressed with a soy and light mustard dressing, it had a very nice kick to it but not overwhelming at all.Agedashi Tofu is one of the best Ive had in so long, fried perfectly, not greasy and with that little chewy goodness and soft inside when you bite into it. The dashi broth was perfectly seasoned with sweet, savory and tons of umami flavorThe grilled meats were very high quality and just the right portions. Pricing was very good for two person portion, the So Hungry platter was only $60.00 for 2 people and the highlight was the beef tongue or gyu-tan. They sliced it perfectly, not too thin that you cant taste the flavor, but thick enough that it wasnt chewy at all.Highly recommend this restaurant and I cant wait to go back again! It is also very clean inside and the servers are very nice and attentive.

Comment: I used to be a regular here years ago and when the place burned down, I was so bummed out. They were closed for a few years and didnt think they were going to reopen again. Then I happened to walk by the place on my way to Sake Bar decibel and noticed the sign. I was so damn excited and the manager was standing outside, noticed my elation, and gave me a quick rundown on how they reopened and how everything was the same. I immediately walked in with my girlfriend, man he did not lie. Everything was just as I remembered, great food, great staff and an amazing atmosphere. Im back to being a regular to this amazing restaurant.

Comment: Yakiniku West is delicious Japanese BBQ. Top quality meats and they serve Happy hour quite often and at very convenient hours. The theme here is traditional japanese style BBQ where you are seated at a table with a griller and they light it up for you so you can cook the food yourself. Its very engaging and entertaining you will love coming here with a large or small group. They serve alcohol and they have large group seating available.Portions are generous for the price. They offer fine Japanese quality meats such as kobe and wagyu, sometime other special rare delicacies. They do serve veggies and fries among other various side dishes such as rice etc..I like the new look, but I prefer the old decor they used to have with the tatami seating that was very unique for nyc. This restaurant is situated on what I like to call little japan because this block (east 9th st) has several authentic Japanese owned and operated restaurants and cafes. So you will have a great experience at this place before and after leaving.Yakiniku West has been around for years and I frequented here before they closed due to the tragic fire. So when I found out though some local Japanese flyers that they reopened i was ecstatic.

Comment: Yakiniku West is my heart and soul. My happy place. My nirvana!!! I used to say if it closed, then that would be my sign from the heavens to move away from NYC. Well, they had the fire and were closed for a long time, but luckily I stuck around long enough to see them reopen. I do miss the old ambiance of the restaurant, but the food is still the same! The prime short rib is my absolute favorite thing to eat. Aside from meat though, they also have some of the BEST gyoza and agedashi tofu that you can get anywhere - seriously!! So dont skimp on the appetizers!

Comment: Its a typical Japanese barbecue restaurant. It reminded me the time I was staying in Japan when learning abroad. The set was good combination with a good price. The meet was juicy and tasty. Also, I love the Nama beer. My friend ordered a sake, which was delicious as well. The only dish I thought was not satisfied was the 鶏唐揚げ, the fried chicken nuggets, it was too oily.

Comment: One of ny favorite Japanese grill spots ever. The atmosphere is effortlessly romantic and yet still chill enough to go with a group of friends. Im a big fan of the Japanese style seating. You must check your shoes in at the door and the tables are low to the ground so the seats are set below ground level. Its very picturesque. If you arrive within the opening hour I recommend taking advantage of their early bird special. You can get a whole meal including desert for 10.

Comment: Very nice Asian spot. I would say the decor and atmosphere and menu are all fusion of Korean and Japanese. They sushi, but also bibim bop and kalbi tang to grill on the table, just like in Korea. Beef is excellent US grown Kobe beef. When you go in there you sit low around a table that has the grillers in it. Lighting is dark and romantic. You need to take your shoes off, and are offered slippers when going to the bathroom. While not genuinely authentic, still a very nice spot with good quality food!

Comment: Nice New York take on Japanese yakiniku. Setting is relaxing and maintains some Japanese tradition -- no shoes inside, seated at floor level, communal plating of meats. Everything from the decor to the flooring and art is well executed and good quality. The food is good and is probably the closest youll get to the way they do it in Tokyo or Kyoto without going there. Only knock against their approach is that these are gas grills and not coal. Prices are reasonable for a nice date night. Asahi is cold, grill is hot, miso is great. If youre looking for a place to take a significant other or for a good adult group outing, this is a very good choice.

Comment: Love everything about this place. Been there a dozen or more times, and still keep going back. Building a loyal customer base is something every restaurant strives for. And this place definitely has that secured. Very attentive staff. Great atmosphere. Fresh quality cuts of meat. Their early bird special definitely gives you more bang for your buck. It CAN, however, get quite smoky inside once every table gets their grill fired up.

Comment: I dont give lots of places 5 stars but this place was exceptional. Its a traditional Japanese style restaurant (actually a chain in japan). It features traditional style seating, which is on the floor with your feet through a whole in the floor around the table. You can order bbq and cook your own food, or order prepared items including sushi. They have Kirin and Sapporo on tap as well. Its really great for bbq as you can see in the pictures. You also have to take your shoes off so wear clean socks.

Comment: Hours are posted as absolute closing time. Showed up 45 minutes before closing thinking we had enough time to eat. We were sat, our very large order was taken but the second we got our food we were rushed to finish so they could leave at the exact time of advertised close, not a standard practice.Meats were amazing, loved the selection and would go back, just not that late.

Comment: Love this place. Its a unique experience you have to take off your shoes at the front and the tables are floor level with sunken floors so it looks like youre sitting crossed leg Japanese style at a low table. Food is great. Japanese BBQ is super yummy. They have a happy hour for about $ 9? With rice soup or salad and ice cream with some beef to bbq. My secret place I like to bring people I like hahaha. Comment: If youd like to have a pre Japan experience, if you are planning on taking a trip or if you just enjoy Japanese culture, this is a must go to place. They have authentic wooden floors and make you abide by the norms of Japanese culture such as the removal of outside footwear and the style in which you sit to eat your food. (Highly suggested not mandatory for the sitting part)The food is amazing especially the Hokkaido potato croquet. You also get to enjoy making your own food should you choose to only order meat for the flames at the middle of the table. They also have a fantastic selection of sake to the point where it would be impossible to not find something you enjoy unless of course you dont partake in alcoholic beverages, but even then they still have you covered with a few different choices of soda, floats, and juices. And for once in the many Japanese restaurants Ive been to all of the employees with the exception of 1 waitress(who if she doesnt tell you, you probably wouldnt know) is Japanese, giving you a real feel for being transported to an actual Japanese store in Tokyo. This may be one of my favorite places in New York City to eat at.

Comment: Pricy but great food. Ive been here a handful of times. There isnt a menu they provide since you cant order out, which is understandable, but it would be helpful if they did have one especially for someone who isnt sure what to get if theyve never been to a place like this before. Wouldnt hurt to have one so people can share with friends. Other than that, the experience is fun - you cook your own food. The California rolls are good and larger than most places. Shoes are left at the door so dont forget your socks! lol.

They have a $10 special from 5-6pm everyday that is not to be missed (includes dessert!) and you can upgrade to Bimbimbap (rice stone pot with vegetables) for $5 more. They also have 1/2 off meats on certain days so call and plan ahead. Definitely call for reservation otherwise wait can be 45min-2hr. I always come here and have a fabulous time. Comment: This traditional style Japanese restaurant where one takes off the shoes before going beyond the entry a little different than many along the Japanese row. The service is quick and the ingredients are very good comparatively. This is a fun place for a group who wants to cook their own food.
