Comment: We 2 people ate about $100. All good is warm and comforting for me. I like the sukiyaki udon. The unagi Don (for 2) is great but not the best. You can find some other better unagi Don in New York City.

Comment: Sun-chan is at the top of my best nyc restaurant list. Their Eel Rice is really the best eel rice I’ve had in nyc. It’s a super small and tight restaurant but the staff works hard and fast. Order anything from the menu except sushi and yakitori. They are not as impressive. The rest of the menu is to die for.

Comment: This was one of our favorites pre pandemic and we finally made it back last night. Food was terrific! We had the unagi rice dish for two, sushi (uni, salmon roe, and a toro roll), and some crispy fried calamari legs. Sushi was very fresh. Service was friendly and attentive. So glad this neighborhood gem made it!

Comment: Not enough can be said about Sun Chan. Friendly service, clean environment. Authentic ambience, and truly the best sushi in the area. And I know my sushi. Being a big fan of Japanese cuisine, nothing beats the sushi and sashimi for two, or the scallops, or anything from the menu. Fresh and delicious. Dont hold back, get that extra roll. Arigatougoizimas Sun chan!

Comment: Yakitori Sun-Chan is the real deal. Not much to look at, and efficient but indifferent service, it’s the food that shines. It is a very authentic izikaya (based in my three years living in Tokyo) with a wide variety of food styles. The yakitori, grilled by the front window by the oji-san owner, is a great start. Order slowly, drink heartedly and enjoy the meal.

Comment: We ordered Unagi Hitsumabushi for two. It taste so good!Definitely recommend it! I give four stars instead of five it’s because one of the female server was so rude. Probably Korean accent, she doesn’t speak good English. She asked us to change our tips. Ive never had that kind of experiences. I was so angry about that. Its my choice to choose the amount of tips not hers!

Comment: A definite 5-star!The hitsumabushi is great, and they suggest to mix the rice and eel with soup, that was awesome. Their sauce on the eel was delicious. It was supposed for two persons but could be handled by one lol.I also tried the sashimi appetizer and seaweed. Both are great. For the sashimi you pay 16 to get 7 slices including toro and salmon, worthy.Ended up with $70 but totally worth it. I ate a lot so I guess it would be around 50 per person.A small but lovely restaurant, about 10 tables or so, with nice waiters and waitresses. I asked about reservations but they only take calls. Not very busy even it was Saturday night though. Easy to find, just at the opposite of 103 st station. Will visit again!

Comment: Food is great and service is great when youre dining in the restaurant but I called to place a pickup order and called three times with no answer. I walked to the restaurant to place the order in person and was told I needed to wait until all th tables were sat. Thats disappointing. Maybe hire more staff to accommodate all needs of the restaurant.

Comment: This is my favorite Restaurant in NYC. Come here for the wide menu, stay for the sake and friendly waitstaff. Theres a reason the neighborhood fought to keep this place afloat during the pandemic.Try the eel Hitsumabishi for 2 if you are looking for something truly special, and be adventurous with the Yakitori section, theres lots of great stuff lurking on that back page.Dont forget to make a reservation as you wont get served without one, its packed every night.

Comment: My partner and I first came here on New Year’s Eve 2019/2020. It was a serendipitous night— we had other plans, but a weird last minute choice turned into a memorableand delicious evening! Everything was perfect, affordable, and delicious, and at the end, they generously gave us a few treats on the house. 😭 So sweet!! Yakitori Sun-Chan is one of our favorite restaurants— a neighborhood gem full of sweet, passionate, and kind people.Editing because how could I forget the FOOD: the yakitori is AMAZING, especially the chicken skins. The sushi is delicious, the udon is my favorite, and my partner gets the katsu don which is really, really delicious. Recently tried the wasabi dumplings which were incredible. Basically you cant go wrong. Biggest problem is deciding what to choose!

Comment: I dont know how this place isnt more popular. Its so good, and theres so much variety - things that youd actually see on a menu in Japan, not just boring chicken teriyaki. Obviously the yakitori is the star - they have a grill that you can watch from a seat at the counter - but it doesnt end there. Ive enjoyed the udon sukiyaki, pacific saury, usuzukuri, nasushigi, maguro tataki, agedashi tofu, and more. And for place that makes so many different things, their sushi is really good. Order a few different plates, pick a nice sake or shochu, and youre set.Its also just such a cozy place. The space is so understated, it feels like an old living room. So many American Japanese restaurants try to be way too theme-y - I really like that its just a small, simple, nicely-lit room. You cant help but feel relaxed the whole time youre there.

Comment: Sun Chan is one of the sweetest most consistent and delicious places in this neighborhood. The menu usually includes grilled items, soups, rices and fish dishes and a great range of apps. We love this place and hope they will keep surviving the hardships of this past year.

Comment: This place is the most underrated and delicious izakaya in all of NYC. It’s never crowded, consistently delicious, and has so many things on the menu that I don’t even know where to start. We come here almost every week. We’ve never had a bad dish - and this place reminds me of being back in Japan. I almost don’t want to leave this review because it’s our favorite little spot and we don’t want it to get more crowded but that would be a disservice to this place, especially in Covid times.

Comment: In my opinion, this is my neighborhoods treasure. I dont know any other restaurant that has such loyal customers, and deservedly so. They treat you like a mix of royalty and family.Their menu accommodates those seeking comfort food, old favorites, and new taste adventures alike. They have a large regular menu and changing specials menu. Youll find dishes that youve never had before and the ones that you have had elsewhere are better executed as well as carefully & beautifully presented here. All of their house specialties are amazing. My favorite is the eel prepared by the chef and owner. The best eel Ive ever had. They also have a well curated sake & shochu list.
