Sake in a Masa Cup; Soup with a shallow wood spoon shaped like a ladle (actually hard to eat from - so I gauchely drank from the bowl).There is a small Sushi Menu - dont expect fancy, trendy, jumbo rolls, just tasty, fresh fresh served at room temperature, plated simply. This is basically a kitchen restaurant serving Ramen, Soba or Udon with various ingredients in soup or Danbury Bowls. Truly delicious. A godsend in exurbia. The fabulous broth is meat based, so not a lot of vegetarian options.

Not only is the food delicious but the atmosphere is cozy and the service is top notch. Some of my favorites include gyoza, katsu curry, shoyu ramen, and oyako-don. The setting is nice and intimate as there are enough tables to avoid over-crowding - every table has their own space. Georges service is excellent and he is always friendly, accommodating, and knowledgable. My family loves the authentic food and beverages offered at Yami-Ichi and we will continue to dine there!

The owner (George) makes a regular attempt to get to know every customer down to their names and birthdays and honestly where will you get that type of treatment anywhere else. The food is great and I find myself coming back regularly half just to have a nice conversation with him again, and to get the same order of ramen Ive been getting for years. Comment: My partner and I had a great experience here. The waiter was nice and friendly. The IPA and plum wine were delicious. The food was great, too. Partner ordered three rolls, and I ordered the katsu-don which was cooked well and tender. Will definitely come back here again.

Comment: Simply amazing! Traditional Japanese, hidden gem!!! Nice Sake selection as well. Took a chance stopping by, with reserved expectations and was happily rewarded with very good appetizers, try the Squid! And the Sushi was delightful. Service on point, knowledgeable and left nothing to ask for. Will be back again, and again for sure :) no other local sushi measures up.

Comment: I went there late before closing and the food i took home was simply fantastic. i orders an avocado/ cucumber roll, gyoza, and the katsudon. the roll was carefully made and was a refreshing and delicious appetizer to my heartier meal. the gyoza was well cooked and soft enough that my chopsticks could chop them in half. the pork meat on the inside was juicy and and easy to eat (which i love). the katsudon was great, the egg was cooked just right, leaving it moist and with some yolk left for the rice below. the rice was cooked thoroughly and was the perfect amount for a meal. the pork was fried with a flavorful batter.the only complaint i had was that the pork in my katsudon was a bit tough, but i do not blame the cooks, as i asked for this all to go and i left it in the to go container for about 20mins (so thats on me).the atmosphere is calming and gives you a nice and simple dining experience. it is a small venue, but a great place to stop by for lunch. i hope to sit down in the restaurant for lunch sometime soon :)

Comment: I visited my sister in Mahopac and she brought me to this new Japanese restaurant. From the outside I thought it was really cute (love the black signage)! My sister ordered the miso ramen and tuna roll and I ordered 4 piece bluefin tuna sushi, spicy salmon roll, and eel cucumber. My sister absolutely loved her ramen and kept mentioning how delicious the broth was while I thought the sushi was tasty and very fresh, especially the bluefin tuna sushi. We look forward to going back and bringing the rest of the family!

Comment: We are so happy theres finally a place like this in Mahopac, let alone upstate NY! This is is our second time here and I was in for a real treat when I found out they had the uni from Maine. This was the freshest Ive had anywhere in the world and I travel all over. The owner George was extremely welcoming and accommodating, and made my girlfriend and I feel like we were at home. There is a large selection of sushi rolls, we decided to go with the sweet potato tempura and avocado/cucumber, as well as the eel and cream cheese roll (my FAVORITE, not pictured). The dessert pancake filled with red bean and a side of green tea ice cream was a nice added touch to the menu and a great way to finish our amazing dinner. This is a perfect date night spot, as well as for a family outing.

Comment: An hour after I found out about this places existence I was there, the people who own/run this place were super accommodating and wonderful.Best restaurant within many miles. I have waited so long for a legit Japanese restaurant with good ramen and more traditional dishes. What I got was AMAZING ramen and dishes I would normally only expect from a proper izakaya.Shoyu ramen was complex and smokey and perfectly fatty, pork was tender, noodles cooked perfectly. Katsu curry was crispy, flavorful, and super stick-to-your-ribs satisfying.I cant want to go back. They have great lunch specials so this is probably my new lunch spot.Trust the reviews, they are all five stars for a reason.

Comment: My wife and I went yesterday to this new Japanese spot and so glad I went (My 1st time/wife 2nd time). The food was so good and this is the only place that I totaly finished the miso soup lol. We got the ika butter, green tea drink, karaage chicken, black seewed salad, japanese sausage, wife got ramen noodles and I got the pork tonkatsu. Everything was so good even the green tea ice cream for dessert was good. The place is great, owner and chef created a real authentic restaurant usually only found in NYC but this is in Mahopac. Also they have sushi lol.

Comment: Was passing through Mahopac and found this restaurant by chance as they recently opened. Wow! Was thoroughly impressed by the sushi selection and the freshness and quality of the fish. My girlfriend had the curry soba and was in noodle heaven! I’ve been to Japan and this is probably the most authentic Japanese experience you can find in the state. Still thinking about the buttery sea urchin. Chef Yoshi you really made my night. Thank you!! I can’t wait to come back. Beyond highly recommended this place for lovers of sushi and Japanese fare.

Comment: Really couldnt say better things about this place, I had the Uni. Needless to say but first off, THEY ACTUALLY HAVE IT UNLIKE ANY OTHER PLACE IN MAHOPAC, also it was the best freshest Uni Ive ever had. Next, I had their karaage and it was insane, probably best Ive ever had. Everyone needs to come here for Japanese. Everyone else is either fusion or doesnt step up to the plate. Ill be here everyday for sure since I am next door.
